Pakistani troops violated ceasefire by resorting to heavy firing and mortar shelling in forward areas in three sectors along the <keyword id="44759" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Line-of-Control">Line of Control</keyword> in <keyword id="17605" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jammu-and-kashmir">Jammu and Kashmir</keyword>'s Poonch district on Monday, prompting the <keyword id="6354416" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-Army">Indian army</keyword> to give a befitting reply, officials said. "At about 1445 hours today, Pak army initiated unprovoked ceasefire violation by firing with small arms along LoC in Khari Karmara sector in district Poonch", defence spokesman said. He said that Indian army retaliated befittingly. Pakistan troops had violated ceasefire on Sunday too by targeting several sectors in Poonch. On October 1, one army jawan was killed and another injured, when Pakistan army violated ceasefire and resorted to heavy firing and mortar shelling along the LoC in Krishnagati area of Poonch district, officials said. On September 5, an army personnel was killed and two others, including an officer, were injured as Pakistani troops violated ceasefire in Sunderbani sector of Rajouri district, officials said. While on September 2, a JCO was killed in ceasefire violation by Pakistan army along LoC in Keri sector of Rajouri. Pakistan shells areas along LoC in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch

Pakistan used small arms and mortars to target the Indian positions on the <keyword id="44759" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Line-of-Control">Line of Control</keyword> (LoC) on Friday in <keyword id="17605" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jammu-and-kashmir">Jammu and Kashmir</keyword>'s <keyword id="158222" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Poonch-district">Poonch district</keyword>. Colonel Devender Anand, Defence Ministry spokesman, said, "At about 8.30 a.m. today Pakistan initiated the unprovoked ceasefire violation by firing with small arms and shelling with mortars along the LoC in Mankote sector in Poonch district. "<keyword id="6354416" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-Army">Indian army</keyword> retaliates befittingly". On Thursday, for the entire day Pakistan violated ceasefire on the LoC in three sectors of the Poonch district. Twenty-four civilians have been killed and over 100 injured in over 2,730 such ceasefire violations by Pakistan on the LoC so far this year. This has brought misery into the lives of hundreds of border villagers living close to the LoC as cross border shelling endangers their lives, homes, cattle and agricultural fields. Since the beginning of this year, Pakistan has been violating the bilateral ceasefire agreement signed by the two countries in 1999, with impunity. Indian Army retaliated 'befittingly' to Pakistan's latest ceasefire violation in J&K's Poonch district

<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Pakistan+troops">Pakistani troops</a> resorted to <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=ceasefire+violation">ceasefire violation</a> twice overnight and targeted Indian posts and civilian areas by shelling 120 mm mortar bombs along the <keyword id="44759" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Line-of-Control">Line of Control</keyword> in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district. 
 
The <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=indian+army">Indian army</a> also retaliated to the shelling. 
 
"Pakistan troops fired from small arms, mortar bombs of 120 mm and 61 mm range on forward posts along the LoC in Sabzian and Balakote sectors in Poonch district overnight,” a defence spokesman informed. 
 
Pakistani troops fired from automatic weapons in Sabzian sector and Balakote sector till this morning. 
 
The spokesman said that the troops effectively retaliated and informed there was no loss of life or injury to anyone in the firing. 
 
As per reports, there have been 21 ceasefire violations along the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=India-Pakistan+border">India-Pakistan border</a> in Jammu region this month. 
 
On August 11, the Pakistan Army had resorted to unprovoked firing twice across the LoC in Krishna Ghati Sector of Poonch district and Bhimbhergali sector in Rajouri district on August 10 night. 
 
Last month, there were 19 ceasefire violations in which four persons, including three jawans, were killed and 14 others injured. 
 
This month in August, Pakistani troops targeted forward Indian posts along the LoC in Hamirpur-Balakote, Hamirpur, Krishnagati and Sabzian sectors, possibly to facilitate <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=infiltration">infiltration</a> from across the border. 
 
An army jawan was also injured as Pakistani troops opened fire at villages and forward posts in Poonch district along the LoC on August 7.

Pakistan on Wednesday continued with its unprovoked firing and shelling at Indian positions on the Line of Control (LoC) in J&amp;K's <keyword id="44760" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Poonch">Poonch</keyword> district for the 5th consecutive day. In over 3,186 ceasefire violations on the LoC by Pakistan since the beginning of this year, 24 civilians have been killed and over 100 injured. "Indian army retaliated befittingly," he added. Since the beginning of this year, Pakistan has been violating the bilateral ceasefire agreement signed by India and Pakistan in 1999. A total of 24 civilians were killed and over 100 injured in more than 3,186 ceasefire violations by Pakistan on the LoC so far this year. Defence Ministry pegs Pakistan's LoC ceasefire violations at 3,186 so far this year

New year begins with a ceasefire violation on the India-Pakistan border

Four young boys from the border towns of Jammu and Kashmir have made their way to different IITs. This is the first time anyone from terrorist-infested areas of <keyword id="44760" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Poonch">Poonch</keyword> has made it to India's premier institute. 
 
Usman Hafiz, Aqib Mujtaba, Hilal Ahmad, and Shahid Afridi's feat is a historic development for J&amp;K and comes as a fresh hope for inhabitants of a state still in mourning over militant <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Jammu-and-Kashmir-tense-after-militants-killing-five-more-killed-curfews-imposed/articleshow/53149032.cms">Burhan Wani's killing in July this year</a>. 
 These teens, who represent the J&amp;K's new age youth, are proving <keyword id="2931728" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Burhan-Wani">Burhan Wani</keyword> and stonepelters are not the only face of the youth in the troubled state. They seek their state's development and more job opportunities. 
 Shahid, who hails from Shindra village, is pursuing a degree in computer science at <keyword id="6354859" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="IIT">IIT</keyword> Kanpur. Meanwhile, Gujjar Muslims from the state are rejoicing as the other three boys are from their Kalai village. While 18-year-old Aqib is pursuing mechanical engineering at IIT Bhubaneswar, 17-year-old Usman is studying electrical engineering at IIT Delhi and 19-year-old Hilal is studying computer science at IIT Patna. 
 
“It’s time J&amp;K’s youth understand that those who ask them to turn into stone-pelters are instigators, not well-wishers. Poonch has seen no industry. The first thing that comes to mind is to bring rail connectivity and the knitwear industry to my region,” Usman told media.

Two soldiers were killed and four injured in Pakistani firing at the Line of Control (<keyword id="6355098" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="LoC">LoC</keyword>) in the Naugam sector of North Kashmir's <keyword id="66021" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kupwara">Kupwara</keyword> district on Thursday, the army said. "Pakistan initiated an unprovoked ceasefire violation along LoC in Naugam Sector, Kupwara today morning by firing mortars and other weapons. Two soldiers were fatally injured. Four soldiers were injured, being evacuated. Befitting response is being given," the Army said. Earlier, one soldier was killed in the ceasefire violation by Pakistan in the Krishna Ghati sector along the LoC in Poonch on Wednesday night. He has been identified as Lance Naik Karnail Singh. There has been a spurt in ceasefire violations along the LoC in the Kupwara district of Kashmir valley and to the south of Pir Panchal in Rajouri and Poonch districts in Jammu with Pakistan targeting civilian areas and defence positions with long range mortars and small arms. The Army says it is giving a befitting response to all acts of aggression by Pakistan along the LoC.
