The counting of <keyword id="42957" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="votes">votes</keyword> for the by-election to the Damoh Assembly constituency of Madhya Pradesh is underway with <keyword id="1575" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Congress">Congress</keyword> candidate <keyword id="1846485" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ajay-Tandon">Ajay Tandon</keyword> having a clear lead over the <keyword id="58687" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bharatiya-Janata-Party">Bharatiya Janata Party</keyword> (<keyword id="14666" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="BJP">BJP</keyword>) nominee Rahul Lodhi.<br /><br />Voting was held on April 17 for the by-election to the Damoh Assembly constituency and counting is underway at <keyword id="293781" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Polytechnic-College">Polytechnic College</keyword>. Congress candidate Ajay Tandon is leading by 1,815 votes.<br /><br />The counting is taking place in three rooms with the postal ballots being counted in a separate room. <p><div class="KonaFilter image-container float_right"><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div>Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute president Shirley Ann Jackson made more than $7 million in 2012, the most of any private college executive, according a new report from The Chronicle of Higher <keyword id="6355445" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Education">Education</keyword>.</p>
<p>The higher education publication surveyed executive compensation data collected from 2012 IRS filings for close to 500 colleges with the largest endowments. This year, The Chronicle changed their methodology to only include direct payments to the college presidents - such as their base salary, bonus, nontaxable benefits, and other reportable compensation.</p>
<p>While RPI president Jackson is often included in The Chronicle's annual report, she is not usually this high up on the list. In 2010, Jackson extended her contract at RPI, and according to The Chronicle, "A large portion of her compensation in 2012 came from the pay out of nearly $5.9-million that had been set aside over 10 years as a retention incentive."</p>

He&#xa0;took at temporary job as a custodian at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) in Worcester, Massachusetts, to make ends meet.&#xa0;</span><p><span>Eight years later&#xa0;- at age 54<span>&#xa0;</span><span>- </span>he graduated from the school with a bachelor's in mechanical engineering. And now, he&#xa0;snagged a job at a prominent aerospace manufacturing&#xa0;company,&#xa0;WPI's <a href="http://wp.wpi.edu/dailyherd/2016/06/20/coming-full-circle/">the Daily Herd reports</a>.</span></p><p><span>Vaudreuil's story went viral during the height of graduation season last month. It all began when he decided to enroll in a few classes at WPI in addition to his full-time custodial work (as a WPI employee he was eligible to take free&#xa0;classes at the school). At first, he told the Daily Herd, he had no intentions of getting a degree. A college janitor worked his way to an engineering degree - and he just got a job at an aerospace company

Bollinger.</p></div><p></p></div></div>The Chronicle of Higher <keyword id="6355445" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Education">Education</keyword> has released its <a href="http://chronicle.com/interactives/executive-compensation#id=table_private_2013">annual executive compensation report</a> ranking US college presidents based on their total pay.</p><p>Lee Bollinger, Columbia University's longtime president, ranked first this year, with total compensation of more than $4.5 million in 2013 (the most recent data available).</p><p>That moved him up two spots from last year's third-place ranking.</p><p>Six of the top 10 presidents in executive pay from last year did not make this year's top 10, proving there is a bit of volatility in college executive pay. Most notably, Shirley Ann Jackson - who took the top spot last year making $7.1 million as president of <span>Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute - </span>fell to 14th place this year, making $1.3 million. The 10 highest-paid presidents at private colleges in America

Zimmer made more than $3,ooo,ooo in 2011</a>, the most of any private <keyword id="6360288" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="college">college</keyword> executive, according a new report from The Chronicle of <keyword id="6375224" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="higher-education">Higher Education</keyword>.</p>
<p>The higher <keyword id="6355445" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Education">education</keyword> publication surveyed executive <keyword id="6356362" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="compensation">compensation</keyword> data collected from 2011 IRS filings for the 500 colleges with the largest endowments. The Chronicle found that the median pay for college executives in 2011 was $410,523 - a 3% increase from 2010.</p>
<p>42 college presidents recieved more than $1,000,000 from their positions in 2011, up from <a href="http://chronicle.com/article/What-They-Made-Executive/136165/#id=table">36 the previous year</a>, according to The Chronicle.</p>
<p>Ron B. Seifert, an expert on higher education presidential compensation, told The Chronicle that <a href="http://chronicle.com/article/Boards-Justify-High-Pay/143605/">Zimmer's high pay may be due to the size and complexity of the school's budget</a>. The University of Chicago is "one of just 10 private colleges with budgets greater than $3-billion," according to The Chronicle.</p>
<p>"It would be really difficult for you to prove to me that the challenges associated with running a $200-million institution are the same as somebody running an institution at $2-billion. They are inherently different in terms of the managerial skills required," Seifert said.</p>

The top 25 US colleges to study business

<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>REUTERS</span></p><p class="caption">Trump's immigration ban have a sizable impact on the bottom line at certain American colleges.</p></div><p></p></div></div>Last week, Donald Trump signed an executive order that <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/harvard-president-responds-trump-immigration-ban-2017-1">bars citizens of Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen from entering the US for 90 days</a>, and all refugees for 120 days. Opponents of the ban worry that the temporary travel ban will turn into a permanent ban.</p><p>Around the nation, news has emerged of college students from the affected countries <a href="http://www.thecrimson.com/article/2017/2/1/sisters-barred-immigration-order/">not being able to get back into the US.</a></p><p>Aside from the personal hardship the ban has been seen to cause, it may also have a sizable impact on the bottom line at certain American colleges, according to estimates provided to Business Insider from <a href="http://www.collegefactual.com/">College Factual, a <span>higher education data analytics and research company.</span></a></p><p>International students can pay up to three times more than in-state students at public universities, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/foreign-students-pay-up-to-three-times-as-much-for-tuition-at-us-public-colleges-2016-9">Business Insider's</a> <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/foreign-students-pay-up-to-three-times-as-much-for-tuition-at-us-public-colleges-2016-9">Tanza Loudenback reported in September</a>, citing data from SelfScore, a company providing financial services to international students. Foreign students effectively subsidize <keyword id="6355445" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Education">education</keyword> costs for other students at schools where they pay more, taking some of the financial burden off of American students.</p><p>College Factual collected data from Department of Homeland Security on the number of student visas that were approved in 2015, the most recent year they were able to get information. The 10 universities that had the highest number of student visas from the seven countries which now have a temporary travel ban are:</p><ol><li>Texas A&amp;M University - 271</li><li>University of Southern California - 252</li><li>Northeastern University - 249</li><li>The Pennsylvania State University - 227 </li><li>University of Central Florida - 224</li><li>University of Houston-System -221 </li><li>Kaplan International Centers - 219</li><li>The University of Texas at Arlington - 219</li><li>Arizona State University - 199</li><li>Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University - 197</li></ol><p>To estimate the potential yearly revenue loss of these figures, College Factual used the tuition and fees and room and board cost for bachelor's degree programs at each of these schools. The schools that stand to lose the most revenue assuming these students have their visas revoked are:</p><ol><li>University of Southern California - $16.9 million</li><li>Northeastern University -  $15.6 million</li><li>Texas A&amp;M University - $11.5 million</li><li>The Pennsylvania State University - $11.1 million</li><li>University of Central Florida - $8.6 million</li><li>Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University - $8.2 million </li><li>Arizona State University - $8.2 million</li><li>University of Houston-System - $7.9 million</li><li>The University of Texas at Arlington - $7.3 million</li><li>Kaplan International Centers - $4.3 million</li></ol><p>It should be noted that these estimates assume all students are seeking bachelor's degrees, as the visa data was not able to split between those seeking bachelor's degrees and those seeking masters or doctoral degrees.</p><p>Of note: Texas institutions of higher education seem to be most susceptible to revenue loss if Trump's immigration ban becomes permanent, with Texas A&amp;M, The University of Houston-System, and The University of Texas at Arlington losing an estimated $26.7 million combined.</p><p>Amy Smith, senior vice president and chief marketing officer at Texas A&amp;M, said that while the school has not conducted an impact analysis, she felt the numbers were likely inflated as some of its doctoral students attend the school on <span>scholarship. Smith also said that the school doesn't support the ban. <p><span>We recently ranked&#xa0;</span><a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/smartest-colleges-in-america-2014-10">the smartest colleges in America</a>, and&#xa0;private institutions dominated the top of the list. Only 17 <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/smartest-public-colleges-in-america-2014-10">public schools</a> broke into the top 100. Here, we take a closer look at the highest-ranked private schools in terms of sheer student brainpower.</p>
<p><span>In order to determine a school's overall smarts,&#xa0;</span><a href="http://www.tip.duke.edu/node/960" target="_blank">Jonathan Wai</a><span>, a&#xa0;Duke University Talent Identification Program researcher,&#xa0;analyzed&#xa0;the average standardized&#xa0;test&#xa0;scores that schools report to&#xa0;</span><a href="http://www.usnews.com/" target="_blank">US News</a><span>.&#xa0;(Those that did not report scores are not included.)</span></p>
<p><span>These tests are often criticized, but research shows that both the <a href="http://www.psychologicalscience.org/pdf/ps/frey.pdf" target="_blank">SAT</a> and <a href="http://www.iapsych.com/iqmr/koening2008.pdf" target="_blank">ACT</a> are <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/smartest-colleges-in-america-2014-10">good</a> measures of general cognitive ability and&#xa0;give a reasonable snapshot of the brainpower level of that school.</span></p>
<p><span>ACT scores were translated into SAT scores (math + verbal) using&#xa0;</span><a href="http://www.act.org/aap/concordance/pdf/reference.pdf" target="_blank">this concordance table</a><span>,&#xa0;so that all schools could be compared using one metric. The 102 Smartest Private Colleges In America

<p><span>We recently ranked&#xa0;</span><a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/smartest-colleges-in-america-2014-10">the smartest colleges in America</a>, and&#xa0;private institutions dominated the top of the list. Only 17 <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/smartest-public-colleges-in-america-2014-10">public schools</a> broke into the top 100. Here, we take a closer look at the highest-ranked private schools in terms of sheer student brainpower.</p>
<p><span>In order to determine a school's overall smarts,&#xa0;</span><a href="http://www.tip.duke.edu/node/960" target="_blank">Jonathan Wai</a><span>, a&#xa0;Duke University Talent Identification Program researcher,&#xa0;analyzed&#xa0;the average standardized&#xa0;test&#xa0;scores that schools report to&#xa0;</span><a href="http://www.usnews.com/" target="_blank">US News</a><span>.&#xa0;(Those that did not report scores are not included.)</span></p>
<p><span>These tests are often criticized, but research shows that both the <a href="http://www.psychologicalscience.org/pdf/ps/frey.pdf" target="_blank">SAT</a> and <a href="http://www.iapsych.com/iqmr/koening2008.pdf" target="_blank">ACT</a> are <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/smartest-colleges-in-america-2014-10">good</a> measures of general cognitive ability and&#xa0;give a reasonable snapshot of the brainpower level of that school.</span></p>
<p><span>ACT scores were translated into SAT scores (math + verbal) using&#xa0;</span><a href="http://www.act.org/aap/concordance/pdf/reference.pdf" target="_blank">this concordance table</a><span>,&#xa0;so that all schools could be compared using one metric. Then, an average of the 25th and 75th percentile was computed (</span><a href="http://www.psychologytoday.com/files/attachments/56143/1339-us-colleges-ranked-average-student-brainpower.pdf" target="_blank">see a full description of the methodology and limitations&#xa0;here</a><span>).</span></p>

<p>Victor Schwartz, the Jed Foundation's <span>medical director, said that addressing <keyword id="6354774" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Mental-health">mental health</keyword> concerns could help students academically, as well as prevent self-harm.</span></p>
<p>"When you look at the admissions office, most everyone has the SAT points and the IQ points for the college work they're faced with. So more often than not, why someone is struggling in school, what you find is social problems, family problems, emotional problems, not handling all these things effectively," he said.</p>
<p>According to USA Today, <a href="http://www.jedcampus.org/">the JedCampus seal</a> is based on a number of campus offerings, including "free access to the gym, free counseling and physical health services, crisis programs, restricted access to hazardous or illegal materials, [and] early identification of students with problems."</p>

Bollinger is the highest paid president in the Ivy League, according to data compiled by The Chronicle of Higher <keyword id="6355445" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Education">Education</keyword>.</p>
<p>Bollinger made $3,389,917 in 2012, the most recent year that financial documents are available for nonprofit institutions. The <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/highest-paid-college-presidents-2014-12">highest paid college president in the country</a> - Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute president Shirley Ann Jackson - made more than $7 million that year, according to The Chronicle.</p>
<p>Student newspaper The Columbia Daily Spectator has <a href="http://columbiaspectator.com/spectrum/2014/12/07/34-million-bollinger-now-third-highest-paid-private-university-president">a great breakdown of how Bollinger made his more than $3,000,000</a> in 2012, including his $1,012,707 base salary. This year, The Chronicle changed its methodology to include only direct payments to the college presidents - such as their base salary, bonus, nontaxable benefits, and other reportable compensation.</p>
<p>Because of the nature of nonprofit financial reports, these numbers are from a few years ago and show a very different portrait of Ivy League leadership than is currently in place. Half of the names listed below are no longer president of their respective colleges - we've marked each former president with an *.</p>
