The American Society of Plastic Surgeons says the blepharoplasty was the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.plasticsurgery.org/news/press-releases/american-society-of-plastic-surgeons-reveals-2022s-most-sought-after-procedures">fifth-most common procedure</a> in the country in 2022, the most recent year for which data is available."The goal is to remove all of the extra skin that might have accumulated on the eye as a result of aging, gravity, and loss of elasticity," Carolyn Chang, San Francisco based plastic surgeon <a target="_blank" href="https://www.allure.com/story/blepharoplasty-eyelid-lift">told Allure</a>. Though it's largely a cosmetic procedure, it can improve eyesight, especially for people whose field of vision has been obstructed by sagging eyelids, <a target="_blank" href="https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/treatments/8409-eyelid-surgery-blepharoplasty">according to Cleveland Clinic</a>. <h2>What is an "eye-lift" and how much does it cost?</h2>There are two versions of the procedure: One for the upper eyelids and one for the lower eyelids. And though the aims are the same — to cut back excess skin and trim fatty tissue around the eyes — the surgical techniques are different. Depending on whether a patient opts to treat their upper or lower eyelids (or both) the procedure can take anywhere from 45 minutes to two hours, according to Cleveland Clinic. It's generally a painless surgery where complications are rare, but not everyone is a good candidate. "Sometimes the doctor suggests a blepharoplasty when the patient really needs a brow lift," Dr. David Rosenberg, a facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon in New York City told Allure. <ul class="summary-list"><li>A plastic surgeon who streamed procedures on TikTok had her medical license permanently revoked.</li><li>The Ohio Medical Board said Katharine Grawe sometimes answered viewers' questions while operating.</li></ul>A plastic surgeon who livestreamed procedures on TikTok had her medical license permanently revoked on Wednesday.The Ohio Medical Board voted to ban Katharine Grawe, who is also known as Dr. Roxy of "Roxy Plastic Surgery" to her patients and TikTok followers, from ever practicing in the state again, <a href="https://apnews.com/article/ohio-tiktok-doctor-surgeries-license-revoked-4f1ab7a71b2b3d396d102156f2c9e219">according to the Associated Press.</a><a href="https://med.ohio.gov/static/formala/35094502.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">A docket of letters made public by the medical board </a>detailed how Grawe produced and livestreamed medical procedures on patients mid-surgery.Grawe initially had her license temporarily suspended in November."During some videos/live-streams, you engage in dialogue to respond to viewers' while the surgical procedure remains actively ongoing," the board said in a November 18 notice of Grawe's suspension.In one March 2022 incident, which led to Grawe's suspension, the board said that she livestreamed while performing a skin-tightening procedure, a Brazilian butt lift, and liposuction on a patient.The board stated that liposuction procedures require a doctor to be aware of the tip of the cannula to avoid injuring the patient, adding that Grawe's focus on livestreaming made it appear that she was not."Your attention to the camera meant at those moments you were not looking at the patient or palpating the location of the tip of the cannula," the board said in the letter.Grawe also failed to provide the patient with written discharge instructions, with the patient later suffering from severe complications.That patient was treated for a perforated intestine and necrotizing soft tissue infection, which required surgeries and skin grafting, the board said. They also had hepatic encephalopathy — a decline in brain function when toxins that are normally cleared from the body accumulate in the blood.The files also list two other patients who suffered from complications after surgeries with Grawe.<a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/katharine-grawe-cosmetic-surgeon-ohio-tiktok-license-revoked/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">CBS News</a> reported that a former patient who went to Grawe for breast reconstructive surgery, Mary Jenkins, spoke at the board meeting on Wednesday. Zhao said subsequent experiments she and her colleagues conducted using images of "happy" turtles and dolphins appeared to be even more effective in changing people's actions than unsettling images.There could be broader lessons in all this for the environmental movement, Zhao said, because many awareness campaigns ask consumers to commit to shifting their behavior in some way."A lot of the tactics are like making a pledge," she said. "I pledge not to do this or not to buy this. But they fail to act due to lack of alternatives. They are demanding more sustainable products, faster service and less <keyword id="1820144" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="plastic-pollution">plastic pollution</keyword>. Indian companies have responded by onboarding a dedicated full-time resources to prioritise sustainability and social responsibility, developing purposeful strategies and even by embedding sustainability and purpose into their overall B2C communication. However, due to COVID-19 and the resultant global demand for safe disposable solutions, the issue of plastic pollution has compounded. One of the least studied and underreported generators of plastic are e-commerce companies. E-commerce packaging often comes in layers of plastic, bubble wrap, tape, air packets, paper and cartons and it has contributed a lot to India’s landfill waste. It has to be bulkier than usual to protect the product throughout the journey to avoid any damage. With the festive season upon us, e-commerce packaging is at an all-time high. Earlier this month, e-commerce giant Flipkart announced that it has eliminated all single-use plastic packaging used across its fulfillment centres in India. On the logistics front, Flipkart currently operates close to 1000 electric 3-wheelers and 2-wheelers and aims to completely transition to electric vehicles by 2030. We spoke to Mahesh Pratap Singh, Head of Sustainability and Social Responsibility, Flipkart to find out how the home-grown company is working towards substantially reducing its carbon footprint to help build a greener future. He further shared how Flipkart is in process of creating a consolidated sustainability policy. Excerpts: <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Q. The pandemic has only further strengthened our resolve to ensure that as a company we continue to evolve in the most sustainable manner possible to ensure long term trust and value for all our communities. Flipkart has been very meticulously driving its sustainability initiatives across electrification of its fleet, waste management and increasing the use of renewable energy and elimination of single-use plastic. In line with this, we doubled down on our sustainability initiatives and made a pledge to eliminate single-use plastic packaging from our own supply chain, which we achieved last month (July 2021). In our journey, we have been incorporating the circularity approach of 5R’s (Reduce|Reuse|Recycle|Refurbish|Regenerate) where possible. Throughout our warehouses and logistics operations we have been implementing packaging optimization and creating national standards on packaging materials to reduce waste in our supply chain, promote reusable and recyclable materials, and work with close to 70 brands on removing additional layers of packaging. We have also partnered with Canopy on their Pack4Good initiative to promote the use of forestry certified and responsibly managed pulp and paper across our packaging initiatives. In addition to this, we have also filed for patents for 2 ply wrap, which is a replacement for bubble wrap) and for security paper bags made from virgin Kraft paper. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Q. At Flipkart, we believe in ensuring that we continue to democratize all aspects of the business we are in, and sustainability is no exception. With e-commerce becoming an important part of our lives to meet our evolving requirements, instilling the principles of sustainability into our business operations is imperative. Given the uncertainty that the world is currently facing, as a business the more we have incorporated sustainability it has resulted in business constructs that ensure innovation, affordability, availability and long-term success and value for the entire business. The last one and a half years under the shadows of the pandemic brought in a different side of businesses where they have stepped up to take care of not just their own but the entire ecosystem. This has been an encouraging shift where sustainability conversations are no longer just powered by individual actions and passion projects but have the support of the entire leadership structure. As companies relate business continuity with sustainability principles, the shift towards incorporating sustainability as an intrinsic part of the corporate strategy is great to observe. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Q. Where did you start and how did you get to where you are now?</cmsannotation> As we look at creating a responsible value chain, some of the initiatives currently being implemented are: Packaging: We have eliminated single-use plastic in packaging arising from our warehouses and currently 100% of shipments from Flipkart's own warehouses use alternative materials for the outer layer of packaging. We are also working with our sellers to influence and help them reduce reliance on single-use plastics for their packaging needs in instances where sellers make their own packaging decisions. As we move forward, we are also working with brands that sell on Flipkart on reinforcing the primary packaging to be storing enough to withstand e-commerce logistics thereby eliminating the need for a secondary layer altogether. Our ambition is to take this project to 40% of our packaging by 2023. We continue to pilot and scale a range of different solutions to fit all our shipping requirements in order to reduce our downstream carbon footprint. As we look for alternative materials, we are also ensuring that we do not create an adverse impact on the forestry landscape and only source from responsibly managed forests. Mobility: In 2020, we signed up for the EV100 commitment to completely transition to electric vehicles in our logistics fleet by 2030 and introduce 25,000 EVs in our delivery fleet. In less than a year of this commitment, we currently operate close to 1000 electric 3-wheelers and 2-wheelers in our last-mile fleet. Operations: As part of our extended producer's responsibility (EPR) across plastic waste and e-waste, we currently recycle 100% of the plastic being used at our warehouses and liquidate all our e-waste through certified Producer Responsibility Organizations (PROs). We also ensure the use of energy efficient lighting across our facilities and operate close to 30 ISO 14001 facilities. We are also working with all our facilities to ensure proper waste management and water management. Infrastructure: We currently have our entire energy load across 4 strategic facilities being met entirely by solar power and continue to set up rooftop solar across all facilities to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels for electricity generation. We are also ensuring that any new construction that Flipkart undertakes meets the Indian Green Building principles. Products &amp; Sourcing: As we look for opportunities across our value chain, we have also tried to ensure that the manner in which we source our products is also sustainable. We are now incorporating sustainable materials, recycled fabrics and responsibly sourced rayon and viscose for all our in-house brands. We are in the process of creating a consolidated sustainability policy and a defined approach to climate change mitigation which looks at innovation and technologies to reduce our environmental impact across the value chain. We are still far from done across the business but as we continue to partner across the sustainability community, the support we have received has been immense. We are hoping to continue our partnership in this manner. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Q. We believe that sustainability is a common goal, and it is important to develop a culture that encourages participation of stakeholders, including employees, and enables continuous learning and action towards achieving sustainability goals. Flipkart has been conducting a series of workshops and awareness activities, including webinars on adopting zero waste practices; upcycling and reusing old products; the importance of biodiversity, and more for thousands of our employees. These initiatives are also amplified on our respective social channels to extend the conversation to millions of our customers across the country. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Q. Our involvement in the EV100 program, WWF’s UnPlastic Collective as well as our recent partnership with Canopy are part of those efforts. It has exposed the dangers of a linear waste-making business model and underlined the importance of reducing our carbon footprint. The role of corporations in creating resilient and sustainable communities is vital. Data suggests that companies that manage their ESG (Environmental Social and Governance) goals well are outperforming other businesses. So, it is important for businesses to learn how to build resilience, prepare themselves for risks, and build resilience within the communities they work with. At Flipkart, environmental sustainability is deeply embedded in our DNA and we are committed to fostering sustainable practices across our business and value chain and lay deep emphasis on both environmental sustainability and social responsibility. While we fully acknowledge that sustainability is an evolving topic we are proud of the support we have received across the organization. We have been very meticulously driving our sustainability initiatives across electrification of our fleet, reducing wastage and tapping renewable energy and elimination of single-use plastic. What started as a one-of-its-kind initiative for Flipkart a few years ago has transformed into an organisation-wide motive where multiple stakeholders both within and outside the org came together to build a sustainable supply chain. We are also working with our seller community and other stakeholders in the ecosystem to understand how it can best implement new innovations to bring sustainability in their operations. We have made tremendous progress in achieving its sustainability targets that are spread across various categories and will further our initiatives to offer the benefits of e-commerce to customers in a sustainable manner.

<ul class="summary-list"><li>TikTokers have been sharing their plastic surgery experience and advice on the platform.</li><li>Recently, a TikToker shared eight things she wasn't made aware of before getting a nose job.</li></ul>TikTok is abound with users sharing their plastic surgery experiences and advice.And as the medical aesthetic procedures continue to become increasingly accessible, these online anecdotes will start to bear more weight.A recent <a href="https://www.tiktok.com/@jilliangottlieb/video/7222789021724904747?is_from_webapp=1&amp;sender_device=pc&amp;web_id=7212518380259182081" target="_blank" rel="noopener">TikTok</a> by creator Jillian Gottlieb, or <a href="https://www.tiktok.com/@jilliangottlieb" target="_blank" rel="noopener">@jilliangottlieb</a> on the platform, summarizes eight things she was not made aware of before getting her nose job. The video has amassed 1.6 million views as of April 20. "I wish somebody told me that you need to sleep elevated, like sitting straight up," Gottlieb noted as her first point.She moved on to share how she couldn't breathe out of her nose for two months, four times the duration she was told to expect.Her third point was to buy a wedge pillow that would help with points one and two."Number four, your nose is going to drip," she shared that her nose leaked constantly even after two years post-surgery, and she always carried tissues and Q-Tips in her purse. She shares that picking or blowing a post-surgery nose is not advisable, and that sneezing was also off the table. Her second to last piece of advice was not judge your face for a year. "My nose looked stupid on my face for over 10 months, around month 11 is when it started to settle and look normal," said Gottlieb.The creator's eighth and final point was that post-surgery noses are fragile, and little bumps in car rides made her nose hurt for the first week post-surgery.<h2>To find out how common her rhinoplasty experience was, Insider spoke to Terence Goh, a Singapore-based plastic surgeon.</h2>Goh is a Ministry of Health-accredited surgeon who specializes in aesthetic and reconstructive microsurgery at <a href="https://www.azataca.com/dr-terence-goh" target="_blank" rel="noopener">AZATACA Plastic Surgery</a>. "Elevation of the nose helps to reduce swelling and promote healing," Goh said in response to Gottlieb's first point. But regarding Gottlieb second point on taking two months before she could breathe through her nose, Goh said that it's uncommon, though it depends on the surgery she has undergone. "One to two weeks is a normal time for the obstruction to last," he said.As for her leaky nose, Goh told Insider that while nasal discharge is expected after surgery and can last for weeks, "it would be unusual to continue dripping for two years, especially if it wasn't present before surgery."But Gottlieb was on the nose for her points on no picking or blowing the nose. Goh also added that violent sneezing should be avoided, though "most patients are fine with controlled sneezes," he said.The duration of which the nose would be swollen post-surgery varies between individuals, and can last for a long period of time, usually six months, Goh said. "During the early period of recovery, the nose can be tender. Sudden, quick, and forceful movements can cause pain," Goh said. He explained that recovery times vary depending on the surgery, but that the pain is usually manageable with oral painkillers.Patients should also be prepared for the recovery period and follow both pre- and post-operative instructions to ensure the best possible outcome, Goh said."Plastic surgery is like any surgery or medical procedure — there can be complications," he told Insider. "Make sure you take the time to weigh the risk and benefits."
