The January-June period saw private credit transactions of over $6 billion in 96 deals, and the last two-and-a-half years have seen over $20 billion being deployed in the emerging alternative serving the credit needs of Indian companies. Major deals were witnessed across real estate, infrastructure, and healthcare sectors in the first half of the year, the report by EY said. Domestic funds are gaining traction and market share in the private credit space leveraging local expertise and the influence of lower-cost domestic money, it said. The first half of the year saw <keyword id="23077048" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="reliance-logistics" source="keywords">Reliance Logistics</keyword> and Warehousing, Vedanta Semiconductors, and Matrix <keyword id="19933821" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="pharma" source="keywords">Pharma</keyword> collectively raising approximately $1.3 billion, while real estate sector continued to be a focal point with borrowers such as <keyword id="20197996" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="prestige-group" source="keywords">Prestige Group</keyword>, <keyword id="21275229" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="puravankara-group" source="keywords">Puravankara Group</keyword>, Kalpataru Group, and Shapoorji Group being active. The firm's partner Bharat Gupta said private credit investments are at an all-time high, driven largely by growth-oriented strategies. "The outlook remains promising, though thorough due diligence and effective deal oversight are crucial to maximizing returns and managing potential risks," Gupta added. High-net-worth investors and family offices are increasingly participating in private credit as a key asset class, boosting the popularity of domestic funds, it added.

We've defined well-being in a <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/employee-wellbeing-programs-help-companies-perform-better-and-manage-cost-2024-7">holistic way</a>, so it's not just about physical well-being; it's also about mental well-being and financial well-being. We've implemented various initiatives in the last two to three years that focus on each of those.You can provide a lot of tools and resources, but if you don't have the right culture within the company that people are experiencing, that obviously has a much more detrimental impact on employee experience. So, our approach is twofold. First, the benefits and the policies. And second, creating the right type of workplace that people want to be a part of.What specific programs are targeting diversity, equity, and inclusion?Relative to other companies that I've worked for, in some ways we've had the luxury to start a little bit later. Whereas some companies have been doing this for 20 years, for us it became more of a burning platform over the last couple of years.Since Covid and all the various things that have happened since, having an inclusive culture has really become one of the more important things for us.Because inclusion is something that can be very personal and difficult, we're partnering with an external event vendor to create smaller group experiences. We put a lot of things on the table and really try to make it an inclusive environment for understanding, sharing stories, and talking about different scenarios that happen in the workplace.We used scenarios that we've seen either happen at Ferring or outside, but real, lived, everyday kind of things that actually happen. Leaders found that really meaningful because it gave them an opportunity in a very safe environment to explore those situations and recognize them when they see them.The goal is to make sure that when they go back to their offices or desks, they're like, 'Okay, actually, I'm gonna be able to use that as I start to see things.'As Ferring has grown in the US, you've had to start many programs from scratch. What advice do you have for other companies that are just getting started thinking about DEI and worker well-being initiatives?What's really important is to ensure that whatever you're doing, you can connect it with the values of your company.With all of the various things that we're doing, especially in the wellness and DEI space, they align well with our values and our mission of helping people live better lives. It needs to come from an authentic place. Because it's sort of obvious when people are faking it.Our head of DEI in the US has so much passion for this space, and that really drives her as an individual and her purpose. The quality of what she puts out is remarkable, and she's able to create the right narrative that employees and leaders who are in positions to share it are able to grab some of that enthusiasm.What policies demonstrate your focus on worker well-being?One of the biggest things we've done in the last two years is a fertility benefit program called Building Families at Ferring with unlimited financial support for your journey, whether that's IVF, surrogacy, or adoption. So it covers all the many pathways that people could take to build a family.It also offers 26 weeks of paid parental leave and the policy is agnostic of your marital status and your family structures. It's truly a benefit for all that want to build a family.It's so core to our business. We thought we needed to give back to employees in the same way that we want to show up in the marketplace.What workforce issues are commonplace in the pharmaceutical industry?Attrition is systemic; it's just the norm. Over the last few years, we've managed to really stabilize the organization from an attrition perspective more so than we ever have in the previous five years.For us, retention of our talent is critical, as I know it is for all companies. You want to retain the best and make sure that they're developing and getting to whatever their aspirations are. Pharma is very competitive.We recently launched a uro-oncology business, and in the early part of this year, we hired about 60 people with roles across functions, including sales, marketing, finance, and medical. If the pharma market is generally very competitive, oncology is even more so. The things that we can do to make this a great place to work are a big part of how we approach that piece of talent management.

The demand for office spaces during the first quarter of 2024 has been strong, registering total leasing of 13.6 million square feet across the top six cities. It is a remarkable 35 per cent increase compared to the same period last year, according to professional services and investment management company Colliers. Although this is a significant drop from the record office space take-up in the last quarter of 2023, the remarkable annual increase is indicative of upbeat occupier sentiment, given the fact that the first quarter is typically slower, Colliers said in a report. Bengaluru and <keyword id="19900176" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="hyderabad" source="keywords">Hyderabad</keyword> emerged as frontrunners for demand of Grade A office space in the first quarter of 2024, cumulatively accounting for more than half of the <keyword id="19895063" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="india" source="keywords">India</keyword> leasing activity. The office market of Hyderabad saw 2.2x space uptake in Q1 2024 as compared to the corresponding quarter last year. This demand was driven by healthcare and pharma and technology sectors. Amongst other major office markets, Mumbai too experienced a notable surge in leasing activity, an impressive 90 per cent yearly rise in Q1 2024. "Hyderabad continues to strengthen its role as a prominent commercial office market in the country. The city offers occupiers including <keyword id="20942407" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="global-capability-centers" source="keywords">Global Capability Centers</keyword> considerable price arbitrage compared to other markets. Furthermore, proactive government policies, continuous infrastructure upgrades and a favorable business ecosystem makes Hyderabad a compelling destination for investors, occupiers, and leading developers of commercial real estate in India," said Arpit Mehrotra, Managing Director, <keyword id="21062240" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="office-services" source="keywords">Office services</keyword>, India, Colliers. "Within Hyderabad, the trifecta of Hi-Tec City, Gachibowli and <keyword id="19948349" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="madhapur" source="keywords">Madhapur</keyword> continued to drive leasing activity in Q1 2024. Of the 2.9 million square feet of Grade A space uptake in the first quarter, over 80 per cent of the demand was concentrated in these three localities," said Mehrotra. During Q1 2024, new supply across top six cities remained steady, at 9.8 million square feet, almost at par with the level seen in Q1 2023. According to Colliers, Bengaluru witnessed significant new project completions, contributing to 45 per cent of the total new supply, followed by Hyderabad at 27 per cent share. With demand outpacing supply, average rentals saw up to 8 per cent uptick on a yearly basis across most of the major markets. Under the terms of the agreement, Dr Reddy's will acquire the portfolio for an upfront payment of approximately USD 90 million in cash, contingent payments of up to USD 15 million, consideration towards inventory and credits for certain accrued channel liabilities to be determined on the closing date, it said. For the financial period ended June 30, 2022, Mayne Pharma reported total revenue of USD 111 million (USD) for the acquired portfolio. Approved high-value products include a hormonal vaginal ring, a birth control pill and a cardiovascular product. The closing of the transaction is subject to satisfactory completion of customary closing conditions including the applicable waiting period under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Antitrust Improvements Act of 1976 (HSR Act), as amended. The acquisition will complement Dr Reddy's US retail prescription <keyword id="6469017" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="pharmaceutical" source="Orion">pharmaceutical</keyword> business with limited competition products. It also supports Dr Reddy's efforts to accelerate and expand affordable medications for patients, the release further said. Dr Reddy's acquires Mayne Pharma's USA prescription portfolio for $105 Mn

By value, the overall flows suffered due to the absence of any big-ticket deal and were 56 per cent down as compared to USD 6.12 billion in the year-ago period, and 62 per cent down compared to the previous month, the report by consultancy firm <keyword id="131240" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="grant-thornton" source="Orion">Grant Thornton</keyword> said. The volumes were down 41 per cent when compared with 244 deals in January 2022, while the same were down by 3 per cent as compared to the preceding month of December. A spokesperson for the company said that Lilly is investing in artificial intelligence and machine learning in areas including drug discovery, natural-language generation, robotic-process automation, and chatbots.The goal is to grow what Lilly calls its "digital worker-equivalent workforce," a concept that the company says helps quantify the hours saved by using technology instead of human labor. Lilly said that its efforts, which began in 2022 and now span more than 100 projects, are equivalent to around 1.4 million hours of human activity, or around 160 years of 24/7 work.Lilly told Insider its goal is to bring this number to 2.4 million hours, or about 274 years, by the end of the year. Lilly declined to say how much it's invested in the initiative. <h2>Three ways Lilly wants to use AI </h2>Ricks said he sees three main ways Lilly and the larger biopharma space could use AI.Initially, the technology could carry out the first mundane steps in tasks such as contract production or the rote parts of administrative work."I think the most near-term application of these isn't going to be to replace whole people's roles, but rather augment human productivity, and starting with the easiest problems," he said. "I think it'll happen quickly."Second, in an industry with intense regulatory oversight, AI could also help automate repetitive business processes."That's a great target for some of the textual generative AI tools like <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/everything-you-need-to-know-about-chat-gpt-2023-1">Chat GPT</a>, because we can teach it what to do on our data, and it can help people produce much faster documents that aren't actually creating value for the patient — they're contributing to the regulatory system," Ricks said. It just knows about everything that was there and it comes up with constructs that humans just don't."That construct is far from becoming an actual drug, Ricks said, but what it does is give the chemist a starting point, a "new white space," that they can use to eventually develop a new drug. "It's a breakthrough and I think it'll change the productivity of the workplace massively, and people will spend time on more interesting and valuable things as a result in the near term," he said.

Mankind <keyword id="6363818" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="pharma" source="Orion">Pharma</keyword> said the market for Combihale is valued at Rs 900 crore growing at 14 per cent. The acquisition of the product is expected to strengthen the company's presence in the inhalation respiratory market segment, Mankind Pharma said in a statement. The total market for Daffy is valued at Rs 1,000 crore growing at 18 per cent, he added. "We believe these brands have adequate potential to grow in the Indian market and the best part of the acquisition is that both these brands perfectly fit in our portfolio, and provides us an opportunity to grow and build the respiratory and dermatology business further," Mankind Pharma President <keyword id="13185093" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Atish-Majumdar" source="Orion">Atish Majumdar</keyword> noted. As per the terms of the definitive agreement executed between the companies, Mankind Pharma will take over the manufacturing, marketing and distribution of both the products in India. The entire integration and transition of the brands is expected to be completed by March 2022.
