The company attributed the growth to GMV growth, device additions, and growth in the financial services distribution business. Since its IPO, when the company went public, it for the first full year EBITDA before ESOP profitability of Rs 559 crore, its earnings results released Wednesday showed. In the January-March quarter, however, Paytm reported a revenue of Rs 2,267 crore, a modest decline of 3 per cent year-on-year. "In Q4 FY 2024, we had lower marketing spends, as we paused most of the user growth spending in the month of February and March. We expect to reinvest in these areas in the coming financial year," Paytm informed stock exchanges. "While we experienced a financial impact in Q4 due to the above disruptions, the full financial impact will be seen in Q1 FY 2025." Paytm says it is confident of seeing meaningful improvement starting from Q2 2024-25, based on restarting certain paused products and achieving steady growth in operating metrics. In Q1 of the current fiscal, its focus will be on acquiring new merchants, reactivation of inactive merchants, and redeployment of devices from inactive merchants to new merchants. "While there will be a smaller net addition of device merchants in Q1 FY 2025, we expect net additions to improve from thereon and recover to past trendlines by Q3 FY 2025." Its revenue from payment services were up 26 per cent to Rs 6,235 crore; net payment margin was up 50 per cent to Rs 2,955 crore; gross merchandise value (GMV) up 39 per cent to Rs 18.3 lakh crore. Merchant paying subscriptions for devices have reached 1.07 crore as of March 2024, an increase of 39 lakh. Revenue from financial services and others up 30 per cent to Rs 2,004 crore; value of loans distributed was up 48 per cent to Rs 52,390 crore. Further, Paytm said that the active rate and per device subscription revenue has been impacted. Merchant subscription revenue in Q4 was Rs 90 per device per month and it expects it to bottom out at Rs 80 in Q1, post which it should increase towards Rs 100 by Q4 of the current fiscal. "We continue to address our merchants' needs through innovative product launches and are backed by a large distribution and service network. We recently launched two more "Made in India" soundboxes which are customized to the needs of our merchants, with louder speakers and longer battery life." Paytm registers 25% growth in revenue at ₹9,978 crore in 2023-24

"Other global factors to watch include the speech by the US Federal Reserve Chairman, US retail sales figures, and macroeconomic data from Japan," he added. Meanwhile, IT services company HCL Tech on Friday posted a 20.4 per cent rise in consolidated net profit to Rs 4,257 crore for the June-ended quarter and gave a revenue growth guidance of 3-5 per cent for FY25 on GenAI diversification and strong operational execution. "On Monday, markets will react to India's inflation data. Key results this week include Jio Financial Services, HDFC Life, Asian Paints, LTIMindtree, Infosys, Wipro, JSW Steel, Paytm, etc. Also globally, investors will take cues from China's GDP numbers, US core retail sales data, and ECB (European Central Bank) interest rate decision," Siddhartha Khemka, Head, Retail Research, Motilal Oswal Financial Services Ltd, said. Retail inflation increased to four-month high of 5.08 per cent in June as food items, including vegetables, became dearer, according to government data released on Friday. In the week ahead, economic data like China GDP, EuroZone CPI inflation, ECB policy, and the US Fed chair speech will be watched by investors to get cues on market momentum, Nair added. On a weekly basis, the BSE benchmark jumped 522.74 points, or 0.65 per cent, while the Nifty climbed 178.3 points, or 0.73 per cent. The 30-share BSE Sensex jumped 622 points, or 0.78 per cent, to settle at a record closing level of 80,519.34 on Friday. During the day, it zoomed 996.17 points, or 1.24 per cent, to hit an all-time high of 80,893.51. The NSE Nifty surged 186.20 points, or 0.77 per cent, to settle at a record closing high of 24,502.15. Another new age company among talks is hyperlocal delivery startup Dunzo with elevated losses and massive valuation. Billionaire and chairperson of RPG Group highlighted the financials of the company <a href="https://twitter.com/hvgoenka/status/1625843597626183680">in a tweet </a>on February 15. “New age digital stocks are not doing great primarily because the market is not doing great. India is underperforming this year with a negative 2.34 % return YTD while markets like China, HongKong and South Korea are doing very well. The growth was driven by pick up in merchant subscription revenues and loan distribution. “Biggest surprise is distribution business, control of cashbacks, opex,” said Macquarie in a report. Shares of the company rose nearly 22% from February 3 when it reported its quarterly earnings. Macquarie has upgraded rating on the company’s stock to ‘Outperform’ from ‘Underperform’ with a target price of ₹800. “PayTM has positively surprised on the distribution of financial services revenue by a wide margin and has also managed to control overall expenses and charges. At the time of listing, profit and free cash flow were not even a part of management’s discussion. However, we see a very visible change in approach of management to deliver profit, evidenced, we believe, by the core EBIDTA profitability that was reported recently,” said Macquarie in a report. Zomato: A promising road to profitability Zomato reported better than expected Q3 FY23 revenues, and analysts believe it may reach profitability by the end of the current financial year. “Depending on execution-related wins, the company (ex of quick commerce) may clock profitability in Q4FY23 itself, two quarters ahead of their guidance,” said analysts at Nuvama Institutional Equities. “Zomato’s road to profitability has grown even more promising. Zomato (ex-quick commerce) clocked adj. EBITDA level profitability in the month of Jan-23. Depending on execution-related wins, the company (ex of quick commerce) may clock profitability in Q4FY23 itself, two quarters ahead of their guidance,” added the report. Analysts say Zomato’s relaunch of its Gold membership plan should bring growth back. Most brokerage houses have <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/business/news/no-long-tail-effect-zomato-banks-on-demand-recovery-in-future-even-as-it-shuts-operations-in-225-cities-on-poor-performance/articleshow/97907071.cms">maintained a ‘Buy’ rating </a>on the company’s stock. “The fact that most of these companies have put forth their strategy to cut down losses and become profitable in the near future builds hope for investors. Nykaa: Premium valuation reflects solid outlook, say analysts Nykaa, reported a 70% on year decline in net profit in Q3 <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/business/corporates/news/nykaas-stock-plunges-4-2-after-its-q3-net-profit-slips-70/articleshow/97901748.cms">missing analysts expectations</a>. Despite this, brokerages believe the best is yet to come for the company. During a post-earnings conference call Falguni Nayar, executive chairperson, MD and CEO of Nykaa said that although inflationary pressures were present, it wasn’t that big of an issue for many of Nykaa’s customers. Q3 is considered to be a seasonal quarter for the company because of the festive season and despite macro challenges Nykaa’s growth was applauded by analysts. “In a quarter rampaged by a tougher macroeconomic environment, Nykaa reported substantial growth in Q3FY23 numbers,” said a report by JM Financial. The brokerage firm has assigned a ‘Buy’ rating on the stock. “We continue to see increased strength of the dominant positioning in beauty and personal care (BPC) vertical while the newcomer, fashion vertical, has gained market share at the cost of a sharp dip in contribution margin,” added the report. Nykaa’s EBITDA margins came under pressure and fell to 5.3% in Q3, as against 6.3% in the same period last year. “While we expect Nykaa’s GMV growth, at 35% in FY23E-25E, to be the highest within our global ecommerce coverage, we believe Nykaa’s valuation premium (FY24 EV/GMV of 3.1x vs 0.5x median for peers) already reflects this solid growth outlook and Nykaa’s stronger margin profile,” said a report by Goldman Sachs. The investment banker has assigned a ‘Neutral’ rating on the stock. PB Fintech on course to profitability soon The December quarter performance of PB Fintech, the parent company of Policybazaar and Paisabazaar, was another surprise for investors as the company narrowed its losses significantly. Its insurance premiums jumped 70.3% on year to ₹30.3 billion driven by a strong showing across segments. “Given its market share of 90%-plus in online insurance sales and a growing offline presence, PB is poised to post strong sales,” said analysts at Nuvama Institutional Equities. Further, the management expects revenue and margins to improve further as agent productivity rises and benefits of appointments channel are realised. They hinted at a sharp profitability uptick in Q4, say analysts. “This growth becomes even more impressive considering the seasonally weak Q3 for insurance, where new business premiums for life and general insurance declined QoQ by 19% and 12%, respectively,” said a report by JM Financial. New age technology companies back in the spotlight after Q3 performance

Interestingly, the company’s EBITDA before ESOP costs stood at ₹166 crore, improving 61% (YoY). The company said, “We are expanding our monetization base with growth of users and merchants. Merchant subscriptions are an attractive profit pool for us, driving higher payment volumes, subscription revenues as well as merchant loan distribution.” Driven by continued platform expansion, higher user engagement, growing merchant base and devices-led leadership in offline payments, the company payments business revenue grew 56% (YoY) and 9% (QoQ) in Q2FY23. <div type="image" title="Paytm" msid="95364298" hostid="261" sizebytes="47208"></div> Revenue from payment services to consumers stood at ₹549 crore, up by 55% (YoY), while payment services to merchants was ₹624 crore, up by 56% (YoY). The company also reported a sustained increase in contribution profit, which increased 224% (YoY) and 16% (QoQ) to ₹843 crore. Paytm reported a revenue of ₹377 crore from its commerce and cloud services. Its rapidly growing lending business saw financial services revenue take up a bigger chunk of the total revenue — which at ₹349 crore now accounts for 18% of the company’s total revenue, compared to 8% in Q2FY22. Mentioning a long growth runway ahead for lending, Paytm shared insights into its loan distribution business. In Q2FY23, <keyword id="5988397" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="paytm-postpaid" source="Orion">Paytm Postpaid</keyword> disbursements stood at ₹4,050 crore, (449% YoY and 20% QoQ growth), while Personal loans disbursements amounted to ₹2,055 crore (736% YoY and 53% QoQ growth). The company’s contribution profit grew 197% (YoY) to ₹726 cr, leading to an increase in contribution margin to 43% of revenues in comparison to 35% in Q4FY22. Contribution margin has improved on account of increased payment profitability and higher mix of high-margin businesses. The company’s user engagement, measured by monthly transacting users (MTU), grew 49% (YoY) to 74.8 million during the quarter, while the total devices deployed increased to 3.8 million (2.8 million added in the past 12 months). This has led to an increase in net payment margin to 35% from 17% (YoY) through reduction in payment processing charges, increase in subscription revenue, MTU growth on our platform and account level rationalization for online merchants. The company’s revenue from financial services grew 393% (YoY) during the quarter, led by massive growth in Paytm’s loan distribution business. During the quarter, Paytm disbursed 8.5 million loans, representing a growth of 492% YoY and 30% QoQ. The value of the loans disbursed stood at ₹5,554 cr, marking a growth 779% (YoY) of 56%(QoQ). India’s leading mobile payments and financial services firm <keyword id="6357120" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="paytm" source="Orion">Paytm</keyword>’s leadership in UPI merchant payments has helped it generate meaningful revenue. In its Q4FY23 results, the company revealed that it received UPI incentives from the government amounting to ₹49 crore during the quarter and ₹182 crore for the full financial year. The Union Cabinet in January approved the incentive scheme for promoting RuPay Debit Cards and low-value peer-to-merchant (P2M) UPI transactions. Paytm is the leader in UPI merchant payment transactions, and the UPI incentive received by the company has doubled from the previous fiscal’s ₹90 crore. Paytm UPI has been driving the country’s digital transaction volumes in recent years. The company’s rapid deployment of low-cost QR codes to cover every corner of India has brought underpenetrated merchant segments that once preferred cash-based payments into the digital payments fold. As of March 2023, the company had a registered merchant base of 3.35 crore. According to the Ministry of Electronics and IT, its incentive scheme will also promote UPI Lite as user-friendly digital payment solutions and enable further deepening of digital payments in the country, across all sectors and segments of the population. As the pioneer of mobile and QR payments in India, Paytm was the first app to launch UPI Lite in India. Since its launch in February 2023, Paytm has enabled UPI Lite for more than 55 lakh users. Paytm has built a scalable UPI revenue model by focussing on merchant payments and offering subscription-based payment devices like Paytm Soundbox and upselling financial services. It has further strengthened its leadership with 71 lakh devices deployed as of April 2023, an increase of 3 lakh devices during the month.
