The new facility will aim to drive product innovation, specifically in the areas of equity, mutual funds, and digital gold, the company said in a statement.<br /><br />The company is looking to hire 250 engineers across the front-end, backend as well as data scientists. Paytm Money set to hire 250 engineers for its new technology centre in Pune

<ul><li><keyword id="6357120" type="DEFINITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="paytm">Paytm</keyword>’s subsidiary <keyword id="6135170" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Paytm-Money">Paytm Money</keyword> has received the approval from market regulator <keyword id="35210" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="sebi">SEBI</keyword> to start <keyword id="400838" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="stock-broking">stock broking</keyword>. </li><li>The company has also partnered with BSE and NSE. </li><li>Paytm’s parent company is reportedly in talks to raise funding which will take its valuation to $18 billion. </li></ul>Indian fintech unicorn Paytm’s subsidiary – Paytm Money has received approval from Securities &amp; Exchange Board of India (SEBI) the market regulator to start stock broking. With this, one can soon start buying shares through Paytm Money. <br /><br />Additionally, Paytm Money has also signed a partnership with the Bombay Stock Exchange and the National Stock Exchange. In an official blog, the company wrote, “We will be introducing new capabilities &amp; offerings on our platform, such as trading in equities &amp; cash segments, derivatives, ETFs and exchange traded products.” <br /><br />Paytm Money currently offers its users mutual fund investments and had <a href="https://www.businesstoday.in/current/corporate/mutual-funds-paytm-money-vijay-shekhar-sharma-share-trading/story/282818.html">reportedly</a> applied for license for stock broking in October 2018. Alibaba-backed Paytm gets greenlight from India's market regulator to launch stock broking services

New Delhi, May 12 () Paytm Money on Tuesday said it has added National Pension System (NPS) to its app after approval from the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA).<p> "This new addition is expected to benefit investors by helping them save for their retirement while also enabling tax benefits," a statement said.</p><p> In 2009, the 'All Citizen Model' in NPS was launched that allows any individual to enroll in NPS.</p><p> Till date, 13 lakh investors have enrolled under the 'All Citizen Model', the statement said, adding that Paytm Money intends to increase this number manifold by enabling investments in NPS via a simple and quick digital investing experience.</p><p> "In a country like India with its huge young working population, retirement planning needs to be simplified. We want to bring NPS investing to millions of Indians and help them build a retirement corpus.</p><p> "It sits perfectly with our vision of democratising wealth management in India," Amit Nayyar, President (Financial Services) at Paytm, said.</p><p> NPS, as an offering, also incentivises users to save additional taxes and hence, complements the wide range of existing tax-saver mutual funds on Paytm's platform, he added.</p><p> The statement said Paytm Money will offer NPS with the choice to invest in tier 1 (Tax Saver scheme) and tier 2 (zero lock-in period scheme).</p> Paytm Money has more than 5 million users. Delhi-NCR has emerged as India's digital payments capital whereas Tamil Nadu's Katpadi is the fastest growing city for digital payments with 7X growth in 2022, One97 Communications Limited (OCL), that owns leading payments and financial services company <keyword id="6357120" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="paytm" source="Orion" topicspecial.url="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/one97-communications-ltd/stocks/companyid-2017785.cms">Paytm</keyword>, said in a report on Wednesday.<br /><br />The company helped its users avoid 1,618,796,629 trips to ATMs. Paytm is taking digital payments far and wide, driving financial inclusion with two out of three of its new users coming from smaller cities and towns.<br /><br />According to the aPaytm 2022 Recap' report, which highlighted interesting trends of transactions made through Paytm in 2022, <keyword id="6076084" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Paytm-UPI" source="Orion">Paytm UPI</keyword> is one of the most preferred payment methods for Indians, with its superfast and secure payments.<br /><br />An intriguing observation is that the maximum number of payments have been done at 7.23 p.m. with Wednesday emerging as the busiest day in the week for digital transactions.<br /><br />Two of the most common names among Paytm's users are Rahul and Pooja, according to the report.<br /><br />Chennai and Trichy in Tamil Nadu have the highest percentage of offline payments on food and beverages while Amritsar saw the highest spend on health and grooming through Paytm.<br /><br />Noida and Nagpur saw the highest percentage of spending via Paytm on micro sellers or street side vendors. Paytm's market in the North East also saw huge growth.<br /><br />The fastest growing cities in the North East for UPI transactions are -- Lohit in Arunachal Pradesh, South Sikkim and Ranipool, and Assam's Guwahati, Dibrugarh, Jorhat and Kamrup, the report mentioned.<br /><br />"As the pioneer of QR and mobile-based payments in India, we continue to see widespread love for the most trusted payments app -- Paytm," said a company spokesperson.<br /><br />"Over the last year, we have seen greater adoption among consumers and merchants, leading to some interesting trends with Paytm UPI leading the way. With the trust bestowed upon us by our users, we remain focused on driving financial inclusion in India," the spokesperson added.<br /><br />One user made transactions in 106 cities across 20 states. Another user booked flights between Mumbai and Delhi 358 times using the Paytm app, said the report.<br /><br />Paytm continues to strengthen its leadership in offline payments with more than 5.5 million merchants now paying subscriptions for payment devices.<br /><br /><keyword id="9418617" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Paytm-Soundbox" source="Orion">Paytm Soundbox</keyword> is the sound of merchant transactions in India, with a new merchant and their customers being greeted by its melody every six seconds.<br /><br />With Paytm UPI, the company enables seamless and superfast money transfers. Tamil Nadu's Katpadi is the fastest growing city for digital payments: Paytm report

Other apps from the company like Paytm Money, Paytm Mall and Paytm for Business are still available for download.<br /><br /><div type="Article" hostid="261" msid="78187022" title="How to install the Paytm app on Xiaomi, Samsung and other phones" mstype="2" mssubtype="0"></div><br />On September 18, Google released a <a href="https://india.googleblog.com/">statement</a> saying that it doesn’t allow online casinos or support any unregulated gambling apps that facilitate sports betting. <br /><br />“This includes if an app leads consumers to an external website that allows them to participate in paid tournaments to win real money or cash prizes, it is a violation of our policies.”<br /><br />"When an app violates these policies, we notify the developer of the violation and remove the app from Google Play until the developer brings the app into compliance. And in the case where there are repeated policy violations, we may take more serious action which may include terminating Google Play Developer accounts. Our policies are applied and enforced on all developers consistently," the blog post added.<br /><br />We have reached out to Google for a statement.<br /><br /><strong>Big blow to Paytm ahead of IPL starting tomorrow</strong><br /><br />Paytm First Games – which recently onboarded Sachin Tendulkar as its brand ambassador – is the Indian digital payments’ leaders foray into the fantasy gaming segment. <br /><br />Google’s ban is a huge blow to the app as the IPL begins tomorrow and Paytm First Games was hoping to cash in on the cricketing event. Last year in June, the Bombay High Court had dismissed a PIL filed by an advocate and said that Dream11 is a game of skill and not of chance. <br /><br />The PIL had claimed that the online fantasy league game encourages gambling. <br /><br />Earlier, the Punjab and Haryana High Court too had declared the Dream11 format of fantasy sports as legal. The order said that the game requires considerable skill and judgment. According to a Bloomberg report <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/business/news/paytm-may-drop-its-pre-ipo-sale-as-advisors-recommend-lower-valuation/articleshow/87187525.cms">published in October</a>, Paytm was advised to go for a lower valuation than $20 billion in its pre-IPO round but the company decided to skip the round altogether. Even stock brokerage firm Macquarie had given Paytm a with an underperform rating, and projected that the stock may fall to as much as ₹1,200 (compared to an issue price of ₹2,150) any time in the next one year .<br /><br />Interestingly, Paytm was the highest valued Indian startup between 2019 to me this year. The company got a valuation of $19.9 billion in its public issue. It also offers wealth management solutions through Paytm Money and banking services through Paytm Payments Banks.The company has 333 million total customers, 114 million annual transacting users and 21 million registered merchants. <br /><br />Paytm has a strong market share in digital payments via the unified payments interface (UPI) but the margin is zero in peer-to-peer payments and wafer thin when merchants get paid. <br /><br />In the personal finance space ⁠— where Paytm sells mutual funds, gold and stocks ⁠— it has a less than 1% market share and makes zero commission, according to Macquarie. The company reported a revenue of ₹3,186 crore, with net loss of ₹1,761 crore. “Loss-making businesses will find it hard to sustain premium valuations,” Choksey added.<br /><br />Ravi Singh, head of research and vice president at ShareIndia, noted that Paytm’s future growth is a key to watch for long term investors. “We advise the investors after looking at the overall valuations and earlier losses of Paytm, to book their positions and wait for 1700-1600 levels for fresh investment. I say, I don’t raise money on a price but I raise money on a purpose,” founder and chief executive officer Vijay Shekhar Sharma. He wanted India to be as excited about his dream of a super app for anything that can be bought and sold online. <br /><br />But many others have argued that a smartphone itself is a super app. Another startup founder Kavin Mittal, the man behind the $1.4 billion Hike Messenger, had similar ambitions but found it to be a misguided goal and dropped the plan in January 2021. <br /><br />Will Sharma prove his detractors wrong with Paytm? Currently, we are testing the partnership with Ebay, who will expose our Indian catalogue there,” said Rudra Dalmia, Executive Director, Paytm Mall in an interview with Business Insider. <br /><br />Through eBay’s investment, Paytm Mall will also make eBay’s entire catalogue available to Indian users.<br /><br />The company ended the last financial year with a Gross Merchandising Value (GMV) of ₹130 billion and is now aiming for ₹170 billion GMV by 2022. It also cut it costs by 85-90% every month.<br /><br />“We are already make a margin positive contribution. Now we don’t sell anything, where we lose money. The aim is to now achieve net profit which will take a few years,” said Dalmia. <br /><br /><strong>Hard decisions<br /></strong><br />It was a cold December morning, when the newly joined Dalmia had a meeting with Vijay Shekhar Sharma, who said “this is not working”. <br /><br />That’s when Paytm Mall changed the way it worked to become an O2O model led business. With this, Paytm Mall now drives its online traffic to offline stores through gift vouchers, offers and uses offline strength to push online traffic through digital payments only. <br /><br />“We took some hard decisions and decided to focus on the bottom line. We cut all unnecessary costs with an aim to be contribution/revenue positive. So, we turned the focus on paytm’s strengths – merchants and huge user base,” said Dalmia.<br /><br />It plans to piggyback on the success of Paytm, whose monthly transactions are as much as 400 million transactions, to drive demand. <br /><br /><strong>Better business, not a bigger business <br /></strong><br />Today, Paytm Mall is a ‘for, by and of the merchants’ platform. While e-commerce still has a 40% role, O2O now takes up the 60% chunk of its business.<br /><br />“We want to be a better business, not a bigger business. Paytm already has over 13 million merchants onboarded. And there’s a lot of trust. One of the biggest achievements of Vijay has been to convince people that Paytm money is real money,” said Dalmia. <br /><br />This is good news for the company, as its prospects did not look very good a while back and reports said that it might close down. Yet its fortunes changed by May 2019 as the company said that it grew by 200% in six months, and hired 200 people. And they are still hiring aggressively across roles, informs Dalmia.<br /><br />“In hyper growth companies, you grow, you consolidate and then you turn profitable. We are currently consolidating and we will show how it is done,” said Dalmia.<br />
