All the automakers have delivered growth in profitability and sales. This is reflected in the overall growth of the domestic two wheeler industry in FY23, which rose 17% on year after three years of decline. The industry clocked sales of 15.86 million units in FY23 from 13.57 million in the last fiscal year, according to Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) However, reports say that the segment is still at a nine year low. Among the three players, Bajaj Auto has reported poor performance in the March quarter although it managed to grow on a yearly basis. Bajaj Auto’s Q4 standalone net profit fell 2% on year to ₹1,433 crore. Rising input costs and shrinking exports ate into the two-wheeler maker's volumes as well as bottomline, even as the company’s topline expanded by 12% to ₹8,905 crore during the quarter. In fact, analysts believe it may continue to underperform its peers because of weak presence in the domestic market. “Even so, we believe the company would underperform peers such as Eicher Motors (12% growth in FY24E) and TVS Motors (10% growth). Bajaj Auto’s underperformance is likely to persist owing to its weak presence in scooters in the domestic market, not to mention its large exposure to overseas markets,” said a report by Nuvama Institutional Equities. Stress of rising input costs in FY23 was clearly visible – Bajaj Auto’s input costs rose by nearly 9% to ₹24,073 crore, eating into its profits. Further, the company said that in the coming fiscal year, it has lined up a slew of product launches in different segments with an aim to strengthen its premium portfolio as well as premiumisation of existing models, which will help deliver improvement in market share. On the other hand, TVS Motor outperformed the other two and registered 67% on year growth in net profit along with sharp 140 basis points expansion in operating margin as well. After posting strong March-quarter earnings, the shares of the motorcycle manufacturer hit a 52-week high at ₹1,235, up nearly 6% on Friday. The management said that it expects to outperform the industry in both domestic and export segments due to demand recovery led by the premium and electric vehicle (EV) segment. “With supply challenges now largely over, we expect TVS’ outperformance to continue on the back of the ramp-up of its launches. Even in EVs, it seems to be ahead of its listed peers with a strong product pipeline in place for the next 24 months; it has signed up with industry experts and joint venture partners to emerge as a leading player in EVs,” said a report by HDFC Securities. FY23 Scorecard: TVS Motor fares better than Bajaj Auto, Hero MotoCorp on profits and margins

Existing investor OAKS also participated in this round. Talking about this fundraise, Hero Electric’s managing director <keyword id="195739" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Naveen-Munjal">Naveen Munjal</keyword> said that the company aims to sell over one million units annually over the next couple of years. He also noted that the EV market has undergone tremendous change over the last couple of years, especially due to policies being more conducive for growth in the segment. E-mobility is poised to grow at over two times from the last fiscal year (FY20), Munjal added. Hero Electric had last raised ₹160 crore ($21 million, at current conversion rate) funding from Mumbai-based Alpha Capital in December 2018. This was the company’s maiden fundraise and was raised to build its second factory. A part of the capital was also used to develop new products and expand its dealership network. The capital raised in the latest Series B round, the company said, will be used towards expanding production capacity, consolidating market position to strengthen market leadership, investing in technology and growing footprint across India like markets. The electric two-wheeler maker will also focus on India-centric, flexible and cost-effective innovation. The Gurugram-based company also plans to make significant additions to its manufacturing capacity to achieve the target of 1 million sales annually. It will also set up multiple plants over the next couple of years. Hero Electric has specified that it will invest at least ₹700 crore to raise annual production capacity to more than 1 million units over the next four years. Currently, its plants manufacture 75,000 units per year. These new capacities will come up at two or three locations, of which one will be located closer to a port for easy export. “This round of investments which is a first of a larger scheme will help expand our manufacturing capacities, increase R&amp;D [research and development] spends that will enable us to continue to launch innovative products to disrupt the category,” Munjal added. Hero Electric is owned by Naveen Munjal, a relative of the <keyword id="11618761" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="munjals-of-hero-motocorp">Munjals of Hero MotoCorp</keyword>. The company has no business association with the publicly listed company Hero MotoCorp. Hero MotoCorp is an investor in another EV company Ather, which was founded by Tarun Mehta and Swapnil Jain in 2013. Hero Electric raises ₹220 crore to sell over a million electric scooters a year

<keyword id="195740" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Hero-Electric">Hero Electric</keyword>, the electric two wheeler maker from India, has announced that it has entered into a pact with online platform Paytm to launch its new bike 'NYX', which would be priced at Rs 29,990 on-road. 
 
The product will initially be launched in 15 cities across India, and will be followed by availability of e-bikes across all the local dealerships of Hero Electric. 
 "Amid growing awareness about sustainability, we have decided to launch the <keyword id="3388786" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Hero-Electric-NYX">Hero Electric NYX</keyword> on World Environment Day to underline the importance of eco-friendly modes of transport. We are eyeing a target of 1000 units within the first two weeks of launch," said <keyword id="2436380" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sohinder-Gill">Sohinder Gill</keyword>, CEO Hero Electric. 
 "Paytm has accounted for 5 per cent of the pan-India sales of Hero Electric in the last month. We are expecting a similar demand for NYX on our platform," Paytm Vice president <keyword id="2807104" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Renu-Satti">Renu Satti</keyword> was quoted saying.

Hero Electric’s new model NYX to be launched on Paytm

Ola and Ola Electric are two separate businesses under ANI Technologies. Ola focuses on ride hailing business, whereas Ola Electric will be looking to enter electric scooter manufacturing and selling. Last year, Ola Electric had announced that it will be investing ₹2,400 crore ($322 million, at current conversion rate) in setting up its first electric two-wheeler factory in Tamil Nadu. The factory will spread across 500-acres and the company hopes to make 10 million vehicles annually. The company aims to manufacture 15% of the world’s e-scooters by summer of 2022 and will also be looking to export these scooters. Ola Electric’s EV manufacturing plant is said to be the largest in the world. ANI Technologies’ chief executive Bhavish Aggarwal announced, last month, that Ola Electric’s scooter factory is nearing completion and the company expects to start rolling out vehicles soon. The latest 10-year debt of $100 million will be used towards funding and financial closure of the Phase 1 of Ola Futurefactory, the company’s manufacturing unit for electric two-wheelers. The deal signed between Ola Electric and Bank of Baroda on Monday (July 12) is the largest long-term debt financing agreement in the Indian EV segment, the e-mobility firm said. “Today’s agreement for long term debt financing between Ola and Bank of Baroda signals the confidence of the institutional lenders in our plans to build the world’s largest two-wheeler factory in record time,” Aggarwal said. Ola Electric has raised $100 million in debt to start producing its electric scooters soon

The Indian government is planning to introduce policies that would reduce the price of electric two wheelers in the country, so that they can be equalled to, if not made less expensive than, petrol-driven two-wheelers.

The move is aimed at reducing pollution that the petrol-driven scooters emit from their exhaust-pipe in most polluted Indian cities, which also feature in the list of world’s most polluted cities.

A senior official <a href="http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/industry/auto/news/centre-to-work-towards-reducing-price-of-electric-two-wheelers/articleshow/53183107.cms">told ET</a> that the <keyword id="554473" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Department-of-Heavy-Industries">department of heavy industries</keyword> has given its approval that a four-member committee be made which would then suggest ways that could help the government increase sales of <keyword id="929646" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="electric-two-wheelers">electric two-wheelers</keyword>. As of now, an electric two-wheeler costs about 1.5 times that of a petrol version.

"The idea is to bring the industry on board to implement measures which can ensure faster adoption of electric two-wheelers," the official said on condition of anonymity. 
 
While increased sales of electric vehicles will save fossil fuel by about 2.2-2.5 million tonnes, it would also help keep a check on vehicular emissions while decreasing carbon dioxide by up to 1.5% by 2020. 
 
The committee, while suggesting ways to make place for charging infrastructure, will also suggest steps helpful in lowering the price of batteries and components. 
 
It was in the end of 2010 that the government had first offered a helping hand to the electric vehicle industry, when the new and renewable energy ministry announced a Rs 95-crore incentive scheme for e-vehicle manufacturers. Import duty on batteries was also brought down from 26% to 4%.

Indicating a fresh start to the topic of if or not he would enter politics, that was debated for over two decades in Tamil Nadu, the actor said 'questions' lingered among the <keyword id="11619536" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="mandram-functionaries">Mandram functionaries</keyword> on the forum's future. RMM was previously considered a launch vehicle for the actor's <keyword id="4135100" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="political-entry">political entry</keyword>. However, last December the actor said he would not join politics and had cited factors like his health condition, him undergoing kidney transplant in 2016. The actor, who returned from America days ago after a health check-up told reporters: "Should the Makkal <keyword id="1321676" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mandram">Mandram</keyword> be continued and if so, what will be its functions and these are questions among the functionaries and fans. "There are also questions as to whether or not I am going to come to politics in future," he said, adding he would consult Mandram functionaries and then spell out the outcome of the deliberations. On 3 December, 2020, the actor had said that he would launch his party in January 2021 ahead of the <keyword id="6354702" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="assembly">Assembly</keyword> elections. However, during the last week of December last year, he did a u-turn and announced that he would not join politics. The notification for the clerical examination was released by the <keyword id="6392442" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="institute-of-banking-personnel-selection">Institute of Banking Personnel Selection</keyword> (<keyword id="460374" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="IBPS">IBPS</keyword>) with 5830 vacancies. This examination is conducted on a national level. The notification was released on July 11, 2021 and the online application date starts from July 12, 2021.
