Patna District Magistrate (DM) Chandrashekhar Singh, who has launched an <keyword id="19911101" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="inspection" source="keywords">inspection</keyword> drive ever since three civil servant aspirants died in an institute in Delhi, said that so far no coaching centre here was found to be running from the basement. "Officials of the district administration have been given clear instructions to immediately seal those coaching institutes which are running from the basement. This is simply a violation of the existing norms of running a coaching institute. However, so far district officials, who are conducting the inspection of <keyword id="20127556" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="coaching-centres" source="keywords">coaching centres</keyword>, have not found even a single institute in the state capital which is running from the basement," the DM told PTI on Sunday. The Patna district administration has given a month to coaching institutes to fully comply with the rules. They must obtain mandatory registration to run coaching centres in the district. Strict action will be taken against those centres who fail to comply with the existing provisions after a month, the DM said. "The district administration has so far (in the last six days) received applications from around 1,100 coaching centres in Patna for registration/renewal. Their applications are under process. The district administration has also decided to launch an online system of single Window Clearance' for all mandatory clearances/permissions to coaching institutes in the district ... .a portal will be launched for the purpose within a few days," said the DM. The ongoing inspection of coaching institutes by the district officials has revealed that the majority of them are overcrowded and are running in crowded areas, he said. They have been categorically asked to ensure allocation of a minimum of one square metre for each student during a class/batch, said the DM, adding there should be sufficient infrastructure in proportion to the number of students enrolled. "The owners of coaching institutes have also been asked to ensure that one entry and one exit point must be there in each classroom, specified under the existing provisions. We are concerned about the <keyword id="20415307" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="safety-and-security" source="keywords">safety and security</keyword> of students....we don't want to create any panic among the coaching centres in the district. Steps that are being taken are preventive measures," the DM said. Patna, May 11 () Thirty-nine people of Bihar tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday, taking the total number of cases to 746 in the state, a top health department official said. Of the 39 new cases, Patna district accounted for the highest 11. "We are ascertaining their infection trail," HealthDepartment's Principal Secretary Sanjay Kumar said. Six of the new patients have returned from outside the state recently. Three persons hailing from Darbhanga had come backfrom Mumbai on May 4 and were on quarantine, district magistrate Tyagrajan S M said adding that they have been found positive during a random sampling. Three others hailing from Muzaffarpur had returned from Ahmedabad by train on May 6, DM Chandrashekhar Singhsaid. Katihar, June 28 () Bihar's Backward and Extremely Backward Classes Welfare Minister Vinod Kumar Singh and his wife tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday and were sent to an isolation ward at a city hotel in Katihar district, officials said. Katihar District Magistrate Kanwal Tanuj confirmed that both the minister and his wife have tested positive for the pathogen. The couple has been kept at an isolation ward created at a city hotel here, the DM said. Singh, who is a BJP legislator from Pranpur, said his samples were tested in Patna and he returned to Katihar from the state capital on Sunday. The minister said when he came to know about his test report, he first went to Katihar Medical College and Hospital and thereafter to the isolation ward of a hotel in the town. People who came in contact with the minister will be traced to collect their samples for testing, the DM said. This is the first incident when a minister of the Nitish Kumar government has tested positive for COVID-19. Earlier on June 22, a sitting BJP MLA Jibesh Kumar Mishra tested positive for the virus. He was admitted to AIIMS, Patna for treatment and supervision. The MLA was the first sitting member of the bicameral legislature in the state to have been tested positive for COVID-19. (Eds: Adds details) Patna, Apr 9 () Bihar witnessed the steepest rise in the number of COVID-19 cases on Thursday, when as many as 12 people tested positive for the dreaded coronavirus, taking the total count in the state to 51, a top official said.The number of active cases in the state, which had plunged to just over 20 earlier this week as nobody tested positive for two days while many recovered, has also rebounded and reached 35.One patient has died in the state and 15 have recovered.According to Principal Secretary, Health, Sanjay Kumar, Siwan bordering Uttar Pradesh reported 10 cases and is now the worst-hit district in the state by the pandemic with 20 people having tested positive so far, of whom four had recovered a few days ago.The fresh cases from Siwan are a 10-year-old boy, two girls aged 12 years, five women aged between 20 and 50 years and two men in their 30s. Most of them are related to each other and all have contracted the infection from other relatives with a travel history to places like Oman and Dubai, Kumar said.Siwan is known for sending a large number of people to the middle east for employment.Two boys aged 15 and 18 years tested positive in Begusarai, where two others in the same age group were found infected earlier this week. Bihar witnesses spike in COVID-19 cases, 12 test positive in a day

Patna, Jul 9 () The coronavirus infection continued to rage through Bihar with the state registering over 700 cases for the second day in a row on Thursday, prompting more district administrations to impose lockdown or similar restrictive measures. According to the Bihar health department, the total tally of coronavirus cases reached 13,978 with 704 new instances of the infection on Thursday, a day after the state witnessed its biggest single-day spike of 749. With the steepest rise of nine fatalities, the COVID-19 death toll in the state mounted to 109. However, it was not known how many of the fatalities that were reported on Thursday had taken place in the last 24 hours. Patna district, where a seven-day lockdown would begin on Friday, accounts for the highest number of casualties at 13, followed by Begusarai, Darbhanga and Samastipur with seven each and Muzaffarpur, Nalanda, Saran and Siwan with five each. Patna also topped the state in the number of cases reported during the day at 132 and the overall tally which now stood at 1,485. The positive cases included four staff attached to the office of Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi. The office has been sealed for thorough sanitisation. Recently, a relative of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, staying at his official residence in Patna, and a police personnel have tested positive for COVID-19. In view of the continued spurt in the number of cases, lockdowns were announced on Thursday in Khagaria and Nalanda districts for five days. Khagaria District Magistrate Alok Ranjan said the lockdown would remain in force from July 10-14, while Nalanda DM Yogendra Singh announced the same from July 11 to July 15. Earlier, lockdowns of different durations have been announced in Bhagalpur, Nawada, Jehanabad, West Champaran and East Champaran and Kishanganj districts. Muzaffarpur District Magistrate Chandrashekhar Singh did not go for a full lockdown but ordered that all commercial establishments shall be open only between 10 am and 5 pm on weekdays and remain shut on Saturday and Sunday. In all, 9,272 people have been discharged after full recovery from the viral infection till date. Moreover, on account of the number of fresh cases outnumbering recoveries for quite some time, the recovery rate has dipped to 70.04 per cent from about 77 per cent a week ago. Patna, May 4 () Eleven more people, including four minors, tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday, taking the total number of coronavirus cases in Bihar to 528 so far, a top official said. Among the fresh cases, seven are male and four female from five districts. While five of the patients hail from Jhanjhapur in Madhubani district, two each belong to Begusarai and Kaimur and one each are from West Champaran and Samastipur, Health Department's Principal Secretary, Sanjay Kumar, said in a tweet. Those infected includes an eight-year-old boy and two girls of 12 and 18 years from Jhanjharpur and a 14-year-old boy from Chainpur in Kaimur district, he added. With Samastipur reporting its first COVID-19 positive patient from Vidyapati Nagar, the outbreak has spread to 32 out of 38 districts of the state. A 25-year-old man had reached his home at Vidyapati Nagar from New Delhi on April 26 by a truck, District Magistrate Shashank Shubhankar said, adding that he was shifted to a quarantine centre soon after the authorities got information about him. A 54-year-old resident from East Champaran, who was suffering from cancer of mouth and throat, had died at NMCH on May 1 while a 38-year-old resident from Munger was the first COVID-19 patient who died on March 21 at AIIMS, Patna where he was admitted for renal failure and respiratory distress. Patna, May 14 () At least 46 people tested positive for COVID-19 in Bihar on Thursday, taking the states tally to 999, short of the four-digit-mark by a whisker, a senior official said here.There were two females, one of them a three-year-old girl from Lakhisarai district, among those testing positive, according to Principal Secretary, Health, Sanjay Kumar. Six cases were detected in Lakhisarai. In Jehanabad district, a 19-year-old woman was among five people, including a six-year-old boy, who tested positive, he said. Purnea reported eight cases and District Magistrate Rahul Kumar said they were all migrant workers from Rupauli block who were among 55 people who had come back from Delhi on a truck on May 3.One of them had tested positive on May 5. Those testing positive are shifted from quarantine centres to isolation wards at designated hospitals, the DM said. Six people tested positive in Khagaria and three each did so in Nalanda, Banka and Muzaffarpur. The Muzaffarpur district administration said all the three people testing positive were migrant workers, one of whom returned from Noida by road while the remaining two came from Mumbai on a train. Rohtas, Vaishali, Sheikhpura and Supaul reported two cases each, while Bhojpur, Kishanganj, Nawada and Bhagalpur reported single cases, the principal secretary said. All 38 districts in the state have been affected by the coronavirus which has claimed seven lives till date. Munger has reported the highest number of 122 cases, followed by Patna (99), Rohtas (77), Nalanda (67) and Buxar (59). Altogether 411 people have been discharged from hospitals after recovering from the infection. 46 people test positive for COVID-19 in Bihar, total rises to999

New Delhi, May 13 () With passengers stranded at New Delhi Railway station amid the lockdown, the Delhi Police on Wednesday said such people can now avail DTC buses for their onward journey from the station. For people requiring public transport in the city, the DTC will operate buses from New Delhi Railway Station to the eleven districts headquarters with the terminal point being the District Magistrate (DM) office complex, they said. People using private conveyance can either take Bhavbhuti Marg or Minto Road while those taking DTC buses will have to board from the parking area in front of Ajmeri Gate, the police said. All arrangements have been made keeping in mind the strict guidelines to be followed in the wake of COVID-19, they said. Train services were stopped due to coronavirus pandemic, but special trains meant for general public began on Tuesday from New Delhi Railway station with three such trains departing for Bilaspur, Dibrugarh and Bengaluru, while four arrived on the same day from Patna, Ahmedabad, Mumbai and Howrah here. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Railways) Harendra K Singh said they made elaborate arrangements on Wednesday in close coordination with railway authorities to ensure passengers experience no inconvenience while travelling but at the same time follow the guidelines issued to contain the spread of coronavirus. "For the passengers boarding trains, dedicated corridor was made on the Paharganj side where people queued up, all wearing masks and maintaining social distance. After thermal scanning, they boarded the trains. Sanitizer dispensers were placed at prominent places for the passengers," Singh said. India’s most prestigious institution for medicine All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) is expected to announce the results of <keyword id="8164002" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="AIIMS-PG-2020">AIIMS PG 2020</keyword> entrance exam on Saturday, i.e November 22, 2019. The applicants can check the result on the official website at aiimsexam.org. The selected candidates will also have to appear for the medical examination. The entrance exam was held on November 17 for MD, MS, MDS, DM, MCh. And the minimum cut off score was 50 percentile. The registration for July session will begin a week after the declaration of result, on November 27, 2019. The admissions will begin on January 1, 2020 and the counselling will take place in February. Only seven of the total 15 AIIMs institutes offer postgraduate courses. The total number of seats across AIIMS centres in Delhi, Jodhpur, Patna, Raipur, Rishikesh, Bhubaneswar and Bhopal is 546. Meanwhile, nearly 200,000 appeared for the <a href="https://www.business-standard.com/article/education/aiims-mbbs-results-2019-last-day-for-open-round-counselling-registration-on-aiimsexams-org-119081300090_1.html">AIIMS MBBS</a> entrance exam this year against 1,207 seats offered. Kumar said that the department would help the migrant workers earn a livelihood through fox nut production, bee farming, banana cultivation, goat rearing and mushroom cultivation under the Biotech-KISAN scheme. 57 foreigners related to Jamaat arrested The Bihar government is tightening the grip over those who had attended the congregation in Delhi's Nizamuddin Markaz, as 57 foreigners of different countries have been arrested in Patna, Buxar, Kishanganj and Araria for violating visa rules. According to the police, all the arrested were associated with Tablighi Jamaat. 18 have been arrested from Araria while 17 from Patna and 11 each from Kishanganj and Buxar. All of them were tested of coronavirus but they tested negative. 21 cases belong to one family in Siwan district Siwan is the worst-affected district in Bihar and this is thanks to just one family. According to the latest numbers released by the Bihar state government, Siwan has 29 confirmed cases of Coronavirus out of which 21 belong to just one family. This has caused the sudden spurt in the number of confirmed cases in the state from 39 to 60. Additionally, active cases have doubled from 22 to 44. Bihar DM gets life threat for announcing Coronavirus screening The District Magistrate of Bihar's Darbhanga, Tyagrajan S.M., got a life threat over Facebook when he announced screening of people in a post. The accused has offered a bounty of ₹2 lakh to whoever kills the DM. Announcing the screening of people who have come from outside the state, the Darbhanga DM wrote on his official page on Thursday: "A screening test will be done of all the people who have come from outside the state". A man, Mohammad Faisal offered a bounty on the DM. He said, "Whoever will shoot the Darbhanga DM, I will give him Rs 2 lakh". Bihar closes inter-state borders Bihar has sealed all its inter-state borders with Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Jharkhand. The border with Nepal has also been sealed. Even movement from one district to another has been stopped, except in emergencies. "Many people had thronged the state's borders. They have now been shifted to their native places and will have to remain in quarantine in schools and other places. Now on, no one can enter the state," state DGP Gupteshwar Pandey said. Around 13,000 persons who had returned to the state from elsewhere have been sent to their native places after screening. The data on those who are expected to arrive is being prepared. Returning migrants pose a challenge to the government The migrant labourers returning to Bihar has posed a big challenge to the state government as they are supposed to be kept in isolation for 14 days. Over 45,000 people had reached the UP towns bordering Bihar and more than 100,000 were expected by evening, said a Bihar Disaster Management Department official, here on March 30. Pratyam Amrit, Principal Secretary of the Disaster Management Department, said, "Six camps have been set up along the Bihar-UP border. By Monday, we are expecting 1.30 lakh people to reach the borders. We are looking to provide them food and make arrangements for their stay during the quarantine period." "People from other states are being registered at the disaster border relief camps. Their health is being checked. After food and rest, they are being provided buses by the Transport Department in the district headquarters. Arrangements have been made to send them, " said another official. One killed by migrants for reporting their arrival Bablu, a resident of Madhual village, Sitamarhi district was allegedly killed because he informed the health officials about the arrival of people from other states to his village. As per reports, two migrant workers had returned to their home from Maharashtra earlier this week. Bablu informed the health officials about their arrival who then collected the samples from the migrants. The two migrants then thrashed Bablu to death with the help of five others. All seven people involved in the assault have been arrested by the police and a case has been registered against them under the relevant sections of IPC. Migrants forced to walk home from Delhi to Bihar As factories and non-essential businesses have been shut due to the nationwide lockdown, migrants have been left jobless. A huge number of people have been forced to walk back to their native places in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh due to lack of public transport. Kishan Ram, a labourer from Bihar's Motihari, told IANS, "I used to stay in the factory where I worked. And now I am having no shelter to take refuge thus I am left with no option but to walk down to my home.” Bihar government announces ₹100 crore for Coronavirus relief fund Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has granted ₹100 crore for the Coronavirus relief fund. This fund will be used to help the poor and daily wage workers of the state. The government has said that it will provide food and shelter to the people and help the migrants stranded in other states.
