Reportedly, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/baba-ramdev-defeats-olympic-medalist-during-wrestling-bout-by-12-0/articleshow/56663841.cms">Ramdev</a> is all set to mark Patanjali’s debut in <keyword id="1334" type="COUNTRY" weightage="20" keywordseo="China">China</keyword>, and would find support in government's 'Act East' policy, as per which government aims to do business with countries in India’s east.

Ramdev plans to export Patanjali products to neighbour China

Guess who India's biggest <keyword id="3234554" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="FMCG-advertiser">FMCG advertiser</keyword>, at least for now is? It’s none other than the Baba Ramdev-led <keyword id="672744" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Patanjali-Ayurved-Ltd">Patanjali Ayurved Ltd</keyword>. For the seven days to January 29, TV commercials (TVCs) of products under the Patanjali brand outnumbered those from big consumer goods brands such as <keyword id="6399124" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Cadbury">Cadbury</keyword>, <keyword id="29464" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Parle">Parle</keyword> and Pond's. 
 
The data is from Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC), the joint industry body that compiles and publishes TV viewing data. BARC monitors around 450 channels. TVCs for Patanjali products played more than 17,000 times between January 23 and January 29 compared with just under 16,000 times for products under the Cadbury brand. 
 
These seemingly high numbers are explained by the fact that TV commercials play in a very large number of channels in many genres across India, both nationally and regionally. 
 Patanjali grabbing the number one spot this week may turn out to be significant over the medium term, especially since the climb has been steep. A week prior to this latest release, BARC's TVC count showed Patanjali in the sixth rank. <keyword id="6355107" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Baba-Ramdev">Baba Ramdev</keyword>'s brand came into the top ten only from November last year. 
 
Ramdev had said in 2015 that his company will be India's biggest fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) player in five years. For its TV advertising blitz, Patanjali has picked seven products from a 30-strong product portfolio. 
 
These seven are clarified butter (ghee), shampoo, biscuits, noodles, honey, dental cream and aloe vera cream. Baba Ramdev's spokesperson SK Tijarawala said it has been a conscious decision on the part of the company to show its ads largely in news channels to target the "intelligent audience." 
 
"We got the first ranking this week also because of all our seven TV commercials were rolled in together this time. We are coming out seven more products, so there are more ads in the pipeline." 
 
There have been reports, not denied by Patanjali, that the company has earmarked Rs 300 crore for ad spend. Tijarawala did not comment on this but said the flood of ads was to make Patanjali a "recallable brand" and that opting for news channels meant lower rates and, therefore, greater frequency of ads. Some advertising professionals were, however, skeptical of the audience pulling power of Patanjali ads.

Baba Ramdev's Patanjali Ayurved Ltd becomes India's biggest FMCG advertiser this week leaving behind Parle, Cadbury

Two ayurvedic firms including yoga guru <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=ramdev">Ramdev's</a> <keyword id="672744" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Patanjali-Ayurved-Ltd">Patanjali Ayurved Ltd</keyword> have been served notice by the government for violating food safety norms in manufacturing atta noodles, Health Ministry JP Nadda said. 
 
"The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=FSSAI">FSSAI</a>) has issued a notice to M/s Patanjali Ayurved Ltd and M/s Akash Yog Health Products Pvt Ltd on November 19 asking them to show cause as to why action should not be taken against them for violating the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act...for manufacturing, relabelling and marketing <keyword id="3138088" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Patanjali-Atta-Noodles">Patanjali atta noodles</keyword> without obtaining valid approvals," Nadda said in a written reply to Lok Sabha. 
 <keyword id="6369109" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ramdev">Ramdev</keyword> had launched the product with the aim to capture the noodle market by branding his product as healthier and more affordable than other instant noodles available to consumers. 
 
Instant noodle <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Maggi+">Maggi</a> was banned earlier this year for five months after some samples were found to have dangerous levels of monosodium glutamate and lead. However, it returned to shops after a clean chit from labs.

Atta noodles: Ramdev's Patanjali among 2 firms served FSSAI notice

Expanding the scope of its hearing in the <keyword id="19980518" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Patanjali" source="keywords">Patanjali</keyword> Ayurved case, the <keyword id="19895345" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Supreme-Court" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Supreme Court" meta.hostid="266" meta.entityid="Supreme Court">Supreme Court</keyword> on Tuesday took a stern view of <keyword id="20610549" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="misleading-advertisements" source="keywords">misleading advertisements</keyword> by FMCG firms and asked three Union ministries to inform it about the steps they have taken to curb the practice which takes "public for a ride" and adversely affects their health. The court passed the order after Yoga guru Ramdev and his aide Balkrishna of Patanjali Ayurved Ltd. told a bench of Justices Hima Kohli and Ahsanuddin Amanullah that they have issued unqualified public apology in as many as 67 newspapers over misleading advertisements and are willing to issue additional advertisements expressing their contrition. The bench said the public apology published in newspapers were not on record and asked those to be filed within two days. It posted the matter for April 30 for further consideration. While hearing the Patanjali case, the apex court said the implementation of the relevant provisions of the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, the Drugs and Cosmetics Act and the Consumer Protection Act and the related rules also needed a closer examination. It said the issue was not limited to Patanjali but extended to all Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) firms which have been issuing "misleading advertisements and taking the public for a ride, in particular affecting the health of babies, school-going children and senior citizens who have been consuming products on the basis of the said misrepresentation". "We must clarify that we are not here to gun for a particular party or a particular agency or a particular authority. This is a PIL, and in the larger interest of the consumers, public should know which way they are going and how and why they can be misled, and how authorities are acting to prevent it," the bench said. The court asked the Union ministries of consumer affairs, information and broadcasting, and information technology to explain what action they have taken to prevent the misuse of consumer laws. It also sought an explanation from the Centre over an August 2023 letter issued by the Ministry of Ayush to the licencing authorities of all states and Union Territories and drug controllers of Ayush asking them to not initiate any action under rule 170 of Drugs and Cosmetics Rules, 1945. The bench also asked the <keyword id="20083252" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-Medical-Association" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Indian Medical Association" meta.hostid="266" meta.entityid="Indian Medical Association">Indian Medical Association</keyword> (IMA), the petitioner in the Patanjali advertisements case, to "put its house in order". It said several complaints have been made about alleged unethical acts by members of the IMA who prescribe highly expensive medicines and line of treatment. The bench also ordered impleading the National Medical Commission (NMC) as a respondent in the matter for effective assistance to the court. At the outset, senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi, appearing for Ramdev and Patanjali Ayurved Ltd managing director Balkrishna, told the bench they have issued on Monday unqualified apology for the "lapses" on their part. "Where? Why it is not filed?" the bench asked. Rohatgi said it was issued on Monday in 67 newspapers across the country. When the court asked the senior advocate why did the respondents wait for a whole week before publishing the public apology, Rohatgi said, "Its language had to be changed". The court also quizzed him about the size of advertisements. "Is it the same size of advertisements that you normally issue in newspapers?" it asked Rohatgi, who submitted "It costs tens of lakhs (of rupees)". The bench ordered that the apology published be filed on record and added it wanted to see the actual advertisement published in newspapers. "The said advertisements are not on record. It is submitted that the same have been collated and shall be filed in the course of the day with copies to counsel for the parties. Needful shall be done within two days with copies to counsel for the parties," it said. The counsel said additional advertisement shall be issued by Ramdev and Balkrishna tendering unqualified apology for the lapses on their part. The bench said it was necessary to implead the three central ministries in order to examine the steps taken to prevent the abuse of the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act and rules, the Drugs and Cosmetics Act and the Consumer Protection Act. It said these ministries shall file affidavits enunciating the action they have taken to prevent the misuse/abuse of these statutes along with the relevant data since 2018. The bench said licencing authorities of all states and UTs shall also be impleaded as co-respondents in the matter. The bench told the IMA's counsel that while they are pointing fingers at Patanjali, "the other four fingers are also pointing at you (IMA)". On April 16, the apex court had warned Ramdev and Balkrishna against any attempt to "degrade allopathy" and permitted them to tender a "public apology and show contrition" within a week in the contempt proceedings in the misleading advertisements case against Patanjali Ayurved Ltd. The apex court is hearing a plea filed in 2022 by the IMA alleging a smear campaign against the Covid vaccination drive and modern systems of medicine. Ramdev and Balkrishna had earlier tendered an "unconditional and unqualified apology" before the top court over advertisements issued by the firm making tall claims about the medicinal efficacy of its products. Supreme Court expands Patanjali misleading ads hearing to include FMCG companies

The <keyword id="19895345" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Supreme-Court" source="keywords">Supreme Court</keyword>, on Tuesday, granted one-week time to yoga guru <keyword id="20055079" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ramdev" source="keywords">Ramdev</keyword>, his aide <keyword id="21172332" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Balkrishna" source="keywords">Balkrishna</keyword> and <keyword id="20083247" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Patanjali-Ayurved" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Patanjali Ayurved" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Patanjali Ayurved">Patanjali Ayurved</keyword> to issue a <keyword id="114576" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="public-apology" source="Orion">public apology</keyword> in the misleading advertisements case, but said it was not letting them "<keyword id="2308348" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="off-the-hook" source="Orion">off the hook</keyword>" now. A bench of Justices Hima Kohli and Ahsanuddin Amanullah took note of their apologies, but made it clear that at this stage it has not decided to "let them off the hook". "You are doing good work but you can't degrade allopathy," the bench told Balkrishna while interacting with him. Ramdev, who also interacted with the bench, said he had no intention to show disrespect to the court in any manner. However, the bench told Balkrishna that they (<keyword id="6356684" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="patanjali" source="Orion">Patanjali</keyword>) are not so innocent that they didn't know what the top court had said in its earlier orders in the case. "I am willing to give a public apology," senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi, appearing for Ramdev and Balkrishna, told the bench at the outset. The apex court asked Ramdev and Balkrishna, both of whom were present in the court, to come forward for an interaction with the bench. "They should feel they have a connect with the court," the bench said. The apex court has now posted the matter for further hearing on April 23. Ramdev and Balkrishna had last week tendered an "unconditional and unqualified apology" before the top court over advertisements issued by the firm making tall claims about the medicinal efficacy of its products. In two separate affidavits filed in the court, Ramdev and Balkrishna have tendered an unqualified apology for the "breach of the statement" recorded in the November 21 last year order of the apex court. In the November 21, 2023 order, the top court had noted that counsel representing Patanjali Ayurved had assured it that "henceforth there shall not be any violation of any law(s), especially relating to advertising or branding of products manufactured and marketed by it and, further, that no casual statements claiming medicinal efficacy or against any system of medicine will be released to the media in any form". The top court had said Patanjali Ayurved Ltd is "bound down to such assurance". The non-observance of the specific assurance and the subsequent media statements irked the apex court, which later issued a notice to them to explain why contempt proceedings be not initiated against them.

Patanjali ads case: Supreme Court asks Ramdev, Balkrishna to issue public apology; says not letting them off hook yet

Haridwar/New Delhi, Jun 23 () Yoga guru <keyword id="6369109" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="ramdev">Ramdev</keyword>'s Patanjali on Tuesday launched what he claimed was the first ayurvedic medicine to cure coronavirus disease even as the scientific community the world over struggles to develop an effective cure for the highly contagious disease. Patanjali claimed 'Coronil' and 'Swasari' had shown 100 per cent favourable results during clinical trials on affected patients, at Patanjali Yogpeeth in Haridwar. Launching the medicines at a press conference in Haridwar, Ramdev claimed "100 per cent recovery rate in 7 days". The Corona kit will be made available at Rs 545, said Acharya Balkrishna, the MD of Patanjali Ayurved. The corona kit will have medicines for 30 days. Patanjali claims that its corona medicine kit can also be taken as prevention for coronavirus. This is not an immunity booster but a coronavirus cure, Ramdev said. Manufactured by Haridwar-based Divya Pharmacy and Patanjali Ayurved Ltd, the medicine is the result of a research partnership between Patanjali Research Institute and the Jaipur based National Institute of Medical Sciences. The drug was clinically tried on 280 COVID-19 positive persons out of which 69 per cent were cured within three days, Ramdev said at the launch of the medicine held at Patanjali Yogpeeth in the presence of NIMS Director Dr Balbir Singh Tomar and allopathic and ayurvedic experts involved in the research behind making the drug. "100 per cent recovery from COVID-19 within seven days of consuming the medicine is guaranteed," Ramdev said. Coronil is made of the extracts of pure Giloy, Tulsi and Ashwagandha. A corona kit consisting of the three medicines - Coronil, Shwasari and Anu Tel. The other two medicines to be taken along with Coronil are 'Shwasari' which works on strengthening the respiratory system and cures the obvious symptoms of corona including cough, cold and fever and a nasal drop named 'Anu Tel' which helps build immunity, the firm said. Ramdev said the medicines can be ordered online through a mobile app from next Monday.

Ramdev's Patanjali launched COVID-19 medicine, 100% recovery in 7 days

(Eds: Updates with Ayush Ministry statement) Haridwar/New Delhi, Jun 23 () Yoga guru Ramdev's herbal medicine company Patanjali Ayurved on Tuesday claimed to have discovered a medicine that could cure coronavirus in just seven days - a claim that the Ayush Ministry scoffed at by seeking stopping of advertisements for the drug. While Ramdev claimed that Ayurved-based 'Coronil and Swasari' medicine have shown 100 per cent favourable results during clinical trials on COVID-19 infected patients except those on a life support system, the Ayush Ministry sought from the company detailed report on composition, testing and other data of the drugs. The ministry also used powers under a 1954 law to ask the firm to "stop advertising/publicizing" claims of corona cure drug until the issue is examined by it. A government notification bars companies from advertising a cure without government approval. But it wasn't immediately clear if the drug can still be sold. Talking to , Ramdev said the medicines have been developed by Patanjali Research Center, Haridwar and privately-owned National Institute of Medical Science, Jaipur following all protocols with clinically controlled trial-based evidence. "Patanjali first conducted clinical case study and conducted clinical control trials following all protocols of drug discovery," he said. Sidestepping questions on the drug being approved by government agencies such as ICMR, Ramdev said clinical controlled study of these medicines was done in several cities including Delhi, Ahmedabad and Meerut and the RCT (Randomized Clinical Trial) controlled with placebo was conducted at Jaipur-based National Institute of Medical Sciences &amp; Research. "This was done after getting approval from Clinical Trial Registry of India (CTRI) and all other required formalities," he said. "We have followed all the parameters set up by modern science for such clinical trials." Reacting to the announcement, the Ministry of Ayush issued a statement saying, "Facts of the claim and details of the stated scientific study are not known" to it. "Patanjali Ayurved Ltd has been asked to provide at the earliest details of the name and composition of the medicines being claimed for COVID treatment; site(s)/hospital(s), where the research study was conducted for COVID-19; protocol, sample size, Institutional Ethics Committee clearance, CTRI registration and results data of the study (ies) and stop advertising/publicizing such claims till the issue is duly examined," the ministry statement said. The ministry also asked the concerned State Licensing Authority of Uttarakhand Government to provide copies of license and product approval details of the Ayurvedic medicines being claimed for the treatment of COVID -19. Under the ministry's guidelines for drug development of ayurvedic formulations, state licensing authority grants licenses for manufacturing any Ayurvedic, Siddha or Unani medicine. Ramdev at a launch press conference in Haridwar, where his company is based, claimed that his ayurvedic drugs have shown 100 per cent favourable results during the clinical trial. "We conducted a clinical case study and clinical controlled trial, and found 69 per cent patients recovered in 3 days and 100 patients recovered in 7 days," he said. According to him, this medicine is useful for prevention from COVID-19 and also for treatment. Claiming that during the trial other complications of patients were also cured and their critical parameters were normalised, he said no infected patient lost his life during the trial. Patanjali, he said, had started to work on corona medicines in December 2019. The Corona kit, priced at Rs 545, would be available pan India within a week. The kit will have medicines for 30 days. Ramdev said the medicines can be ordered online through a mobile app from next Monday. The COVID-19 therapy suggested by Patanjali is applicable for adults ranging between 15-80 years of age whereas children are advised to take half the dosage prescribed for adults. Patanjali's anti-COVID tablet, Divya Coronil Tablet consists of Giloy, Tulsi and Ashwagandha and is prescribed to be taken thrice a day with hot water 30 minutes after breakfast, lunch and dinner. Medical experts, however, were not convinced by the claims. Dr Ravi Shekhar Jha, Head of the department and senior consultant, Pulmonology, Fortis Escorts Hospital, Faridabad, said physiologically it is quite impossible that there is any medicine which can finish the viral load from the body in 5-7 days. "These claims can be very harmful because people, instead of taking actual medical help, may start rushing to these kinds of claims which have no proven clinical trial," he told . Instead of taking actual medical help, opting for a "desi nuskha" kind of a thing is just going to result in loss of precious time in curing the disease, Jha said. Noted city-based lung surgeon Dr Arvind Kumar said only a proper clinical trial can prove the efficacy of the medicine. Haridwar-based Patanjali group has an estimated turnover of around Rs 10,500 crore. It had acquired debt-ridden Ruchi Soya in a corporate insolvency resolution process for around Rs 4,350 crore after competing with Adani Group. New Delhi, Dec 19 () India Inc leaders, including Bharti Enterprises Chairman Sunil Bharti Mittal, CII President Vikram Kirloskar and Assocham President Balkrishna Goenka, on Thursday asked the government to take measures to augment ease of doing business to "create more freedom for the industry to perform".
 In a pre-Budget meeting with Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, the corporate leaders highlighted several issues, including certain income tax matters which were coming in the way of mergers and acquisitions or slowing them down and roles that need to be played by state businesses to prosper at the ground level.
 "I have come here today to discuss only one thing -- make doing business easy in the country. That was what my thrust was," Bharti Airtel Chairman Sunil Bharti Mittal told reporters after the meeting.
 He said some suggestions around mergers and acquisitions (M&amp;As), demerger, NCLT process, about certain sections of income tax which were coming in the way of M&amp;A or slowing them down were made.
 "The idea is to create more freedom for the industry, for them to perform. I think the finance minister received them very well with her associates and secretaries. What we look forward to this Budget is that they unleash the energy of the Indian entrepreneurs to do more," Mittal said.
 Expressing similar views, Assocham President Balkrishna Goenka said for "ease of doing business, states have to play an important role" and last mile issues are there, which need to be resolved. 
 When asked about the meeting, CII President Vikram Kirloskar said, "We talked about ease of doing business, which are the issues concerning many industries."
 RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group Sanjiv Goenka said the discussions "centred around more around what can be done to stimulate growth, to facilitate the ease of doing business".
 "I think the finance minister and her team were extremely open to all suggestions," Goenka said, adding that "it is the first time I have seen this kind of response from the government".
 On the current slowdown and its impact on capacity utilisation across many industries, he said, "We all recognised that it is going to take a couple of quarters, three quarters, four quarters, before this capacity gets utilised. We understand that, and that is the reality of the situation."
 Ficci President Sandip Somany said the industry representatives gave suggestion to the FM "to reduce income tax for those who earn less than Rs 20 lakh in a year so that there is more disposable in the hands of consumers and the economy benefits".
 He further said, "We have also asked the FM to take measures about reducing EMIs, which can happen only if the banks reduce the interest rates on loans."
 Stating that while the RBI has cut 135 bps, banks have reduced only 45 bps, Somany said, "If there can be more transmission of RBI's cut to consumers, then the EMIs will be reduced and it will also improve consumption."
 A finance ministry statement said, "During the interactive session lasting over two hours, prominent industrialists spoke about improving regulatory environment to safeguard investments through ease of doing business, increasing export competitiveness, reviving private investment and kick-starting growth measures."
 In the pre-budget consultations in connection with the forthcoming General Budget 2020-21, industrialists also suggested many ways to boost the rural economy, especially to increase consumption, it added.
 Other suggestions included improvement in insolvency process in relation to NCLTs and banks; faster mergers, acquisitions and demergers processes, ways to reduce time for FDI approval; structural changes in laws for effective and stable business environment; time-bound decisions for augmenting ease of doing business both at the central and state levels.
 The industry leaders also called for new investment of capital for building infrastructure, CAPEX for infrastructure to boost the economy, preventing predatory pricing and dumping in India while facilitating R&amp;D in India to boost Make in India, the statement said.
 They also called for harnessing public-private-partnership (PPP) by leveraging social funding through a new programme and ensure liquidity for NBFCs with focus on the rural economy and ways to increase consumption in the economy, it added.

Industry leaders draw govt attention on ease of doing business in India

The Patanjali Yogpeethv(Trust) promoted by yoga teacher Baba <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=ramdev">Ramdev </a>on Wednesday rubbished allegations of having violated Food Safety and Regulatory Authority of India (<keyword id="154680" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="FSSAI">FSSAI</keyword>) guidelines for its Patanjali Atta <keyword id="60202" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Noodles">Noodles</keyword>. 

	"We have followed all <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=FSSAI">FSSAI </a>rules and guildelines and committed no violation," said Ramdev's spokesman SK Tijarawala. 
 

	His response came a day after the FSSAI hit out at the brand for not seeking mandatory approvals.
 

	The noodle brand made headlines and grabbed social media attention when Ramdev's pictures of scooping up noodles flashed all over early this week.

	 
	However, with FSSAI chairman Ashish Bahuguna having stated that the instant noodle brand is yet to obtain mandatory approvals from the food regulator, the brand has come under scrutiny subduing the fanfare launch amid Nestle Maggi controversy and the latter's relaunch during Diwali.
 

	A statement issued by Patanjali Yogpeeth (Trust) said that <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Patanjali+">Patanjali </a>Ayurved Ltd and <keyword id="1963293" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Patanjali-Food-and-Herbal-Park">Patanjali Food and Herbal Park</keyword>, Hardwar have obtained a relabeling license (license number 1001401200026) from FSSAI which is valid until February 20, 2019. 

	The relabeling license permits it to get (source) noodles from companies which have FSSAI approval to manufacture noodles. "We have FSSAI license for pasta under Central category and noodles falls under pasta as per FSSAI guidelines," it added.
