Gionee unveils smartwatches with SpO2 tracking, IP67 certification and more

New Delhi, Nov 21 () IT company Onmobile Global on Thursday said it has collaborated with Gionee, owned by the Jaina Group, to build and manage its mobile entertainment ecosystem.
<p> Gionee, has entered into an agreement with OnMobile to launch its portfolio of products including contests, games, themes, tones, and videos, the Bengaluru-based firm said in a regulatory filing.
</p><p> Onmobile provides contests with interesting and contextual topics to an estimated over 12 million active users.
</p><p> Besides this, it also offers mobile game subscription services, high-definition tones with an extensive music catalogue and video streaming solutions that cater to a host of viewership tastes and needs.
</p><p> Around 15 per cent of the overall revenue generated from the Contest services will be invested in gratification to drive engagement, the filing said.
</p><p> "We are thrilled to bring our top revenue-generating products to the users of Gionee phones," Onmobile President and Chief Operating Officer said Sanjay Bhambri said.
</p><p> Gionee Managing Director Pardeep Jain said "we believe that OnMobile's portfolio of products will provide our phone users with engaging and rewarding experiences wherein the Gionee consumers will get a chance to win reward prizes worth up to Rs 2,000 in various forms like cashback, vouchers and Gionee products."

He is the latest in a long line of stowaways to fall.</p><h2>A long history of stowaway deaths near Heathrow</h2><p>There is a long history of recorded stowaways hiding on commercial jets. According to a report from the FAA, <a href="https://www.faa.gov/data_research/research/med_humanfacs/oamtechreports/1990s/media/AM96-25.pdf">stowaways were recorded as long ago as 1947,</a> with a 30-year-old man surviving a flight from Lisbon to Natal in Brazil in the wheel-well of a KLM airliner.</p><p>Heathrow, however, is a particular hotspot for the phenomenon, with numerous incidents recorded in recent decades.</p><p>In 2015, <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2015/jun/19/stowaway-fell-to-death-plane-london-shop-heathrow-richmond">the body of a 24-year-old South African man was found lifeless on the roof of a west London office block</a>.</p><p>The unnamed man had attempted to make it to the UK by clinging to the undercarriage of a British Airways flight from Johannesburg to Heathrow, but had passed out and fallen when the hatch was opened.</p><p>The 10-hour flight was 8,000 miles long and flight data, <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2015/jun/19/stowaway-fell-to-death-plane-london-shop-heathrow-richmond">cited by the Guardian</a>, put the plane at 427 meters high when it passed over the office block.</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>The Guardian</span></p><p class="caption">The office block in west London where the man's body was found.</p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>At 7:45 a.m. on September 9, 2012, early morning commuters watched in horror as <a href="https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/from-mozambique-to-mortlake-the-man-who-fell-out-of-the-sky-8429552.html">the body of a man plummeted from the sky and crashed into the pavement</a> of Portman Avenue, in the southwest London suburb of East Sheen.</p><p>The man had fallen from the landing gear of British Airways Flight 76, which was flying from Luanda, Angola, to Heathrow.</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Google Maps</span></p><p class="caption">The man was found dead on Portman Avenue, East Sheen.</p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>In 2001, 21-year-old Pakistani native <a href="https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-36202952">Mohammed Ayaz fell from the sky</a> into the car park of Homebase - a British DIY store - in Richmond, southwest London.</p><p>Five years earlier, in October 1996, the body <a href="https://www.independent.co.uk/news/indian-jumbo-stowaway-to-have-asylum-reconsidered-1245185.html"> 19-year-old Vijay Saini was found</a> across the road on the site of an under development supermarket.</p><p>Saini had snuck onto a British Airways Boeing 747 from Delhi, India, with his brother Pardeep, 23. Pardeep survived the 10-hour ordeal, but it took police three days to find his brother, who had fallen from the wheel-well as the wheels were lowered.</p><p>In August 1998, revelers at a pub nearbt called The Marlborough told police they had seen a body fall from a plane into the same Sainsbury's building site. Like other religions that are altering celebrations of significant spring holidays, the Sikhs are considering how to acknowledge the day in a time of social distancing and closed houses of worship. Gone are the group prayers, services and history reflections at the gurdwaras (temples). Gone too are the processions filled with hymns.</p><p>In Oakland, New Jersey, for example, the Guru Nanak Mission service normally includes prayer and worship, but also arts, crafts and special foods. "It's festival like," said Guldeep Singh Sethi, the mission's general secretary. "It's very significant. It's definitely a celebration. It's a happy time." For adults that means Indian cuisine. Children have a less traditional menu: pizza and pasta.</p><p>Instead, Sikhs will join Christians, Jews, Muslims and Hindus in taking services for major holidays online, Sethi said.</p><p>Plans were scuttled to host two preachers from India for the holiday because of travel restrictions the Indian government imposed. "The preachers that were coming especially for this are not able to travel," Sethi said. Instead, the Granthi, or main pastor, will livestream the message in Punjabi to the members from an empty hall. Music will be provided by three singers, all keeping their distance from one another.</p><p>"The main thing is it should be safe," Sethi said. "Right now, everyone is at home." Pardeep Singh Gill, president of the Sikh Religious Society, Palatine, Illinois, said the gurdwara –- place of worship -– would usually be used to celebrate the holiday April 19, the closest upcoming weekend. Radiologists working for the NHS fail to spot breast cancer in thousands of mammograms every year, <a href="http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/11284114/NHS-breast-cancer-screening-misses-more-than-2000-cases-a-year.html" target="_blank">according to The Telegraph</a>. The condition affects one in eight women in their lifetime, <a href="https://www.breastcancercare.org.uk/about-us/who-we-are" target="_blank">according to UK charity Breast Cancer Care</a>.</p><p>"The challenge here is there's so much background noise in breasts," said Elnekave. "Breasts can be dense, they can be not dense, they can be have implants, and so on. There are so many possibilities so to find the actual breast cancer is a challenge. This is where we could utilise the fact that we had an enormous database of mammograms. An Israeli startup says it has taught an algorithm how to detect breast cancer

Gionee returns after a long break with three new smartwatches starting at ₹2,499

The <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=4G+">4G</a> battle has already begun between <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=India+and+China+">India and China</a> with the latter taking a substantial lead in the Indian smartphone market for the high-speed devices.<br />

The homegrown brands are of the opinion that their rivals have been dumping handsets in the country ahead of networks being properly rolled out. However, the accusation has been rejected by an executive at one of these rapidly growing Chinese firms.<br />

The executive said Indian sellers are having a tough time because the companies they have been sourcing from in China have entered India and this is the reason why Indian firms have failed to catch the 4G market.<br />

On the other hand, Indian companies said that these devices might not even be properly enabled for the kind of 4G services being rolled out in India. Chinese companies are treating India as a "dumping ground" for 4G phones that may not have Band 3 or the 1800 MHz band, said Vikas Jain, cofounder of <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Micromax">Micromax</a>, India's No. 2 phone seller.<br />

This is one of two bands on which India has allowed 4G LTE services, the other being 2300 Mhz.<br />

Pardeep Jain, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Karbonn+">Karbonn</a> Mobiles MD, is of the view that Chinese vendors have been dumping excess 4G inventory and playing the price game to gain market share. "They are worried that all manufacturing facilities are coming to India, so what they will do now? These companies have wrongly projected the market demand in China and are now dumping that extra inventory in India at lower cost," he said.<br />
 <br /> <keyword id="6354287" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Bharti-Airtel">Bharti Airtel</keyword> has commercially launched 4G services while Reliance Jio, <keyword id="6354924" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Idea-Cellular">Idea Cellular</keyword> and <keyword id="6354923" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Vodafone-India">Vodafone India</keyword> will do so either later this year or in 2016.<br />
 <br /> Arvind Vohra, country CEO and managing director of <keyword id="2083774" type="COMPANY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Gionee-India">Gionee India</keyword>, has different story to tell. He said the company's phones are priced higher than those sold by local rivals and of excellent quality. "Our pricing of devices is much higher than Indian players. Besides, our devices are world-class. There's no question of us dumping substandard products in India."<br />
 <br /> The question arises, why Chinese phone makers are ahead of local sellers? It is because they have made early inroads. Chinese handset makers <keyword id="13722" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Lenovo">Lenovo</keyword>, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Xiaomi%2C+Huawei+and+Gionee+">Xiaomi, Huawei and Gionee</a> accounted for 12% of total India smartphone market in Q2, up two-fold from a year ago, as per IDC.<br />

As for 4G phones, Chinese players have have 45% of the market while Indian makers have less than 10%. Samsung, which sells the most mobile phones in India, leads in 4G as well. The segment surged 150% in the June quarter from the preceding one.<br />

The other reason is Chinese companies have also been able to leverage the online model in India. "Key to the success of the Chinese vendors has been popular flash sales through online players such as <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Flipkart%2C+Snapdeal+and+Amazon">Flipkart, Snapdeal and Amazon</a>," said Kiran Kumar, senior analyst at IDC India.<br />

"At the same time, they also focused on bringing more 4G phones at affordable $100-150 (Rs 6,700-10,000) price points, which are left unattended by Indian and global vendors." <br />

<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Lefteris Pitarakis - WPA Pool/Getty Images</span></p><p class="caption">Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, in his role as President of the Royal Marsden NHS (National Health Service) Foundation Trust, watches as lead surgeon Pardeep Kumar, performs surgery for the removal of a bladder tumour on a male patient during a visit to the Royal Marsden Hospital on November 07, 2013 in Sutton, Greater London.</p></div><p></p></div></div>A Google executive defended the NHS's decision to give Google access to patient records on Thursday.</p><p>Last week, <a href="https://www.newscientist.com/article/2086454-revealed-google-ai-has-access-to-huge-haul-of-nhs-patient-data/" target="_blank">New Scientist reported</a> that the NHS has given Google access to approximately 1.6 million patient records in order to help the internet giant develop an app to monitor possible kidney failure.</p><p>Thomas Davies, head of Google Enterprise in Northern and Central Europe, said at the AI Summit conference in London that Google was given access to the data because of "trust."</p><p>A member of the audience asked Davies: "Why is Google a good fit to be determining what happens to patients and whether they might be susceptible to certain diseases?" They added: "How did that come about and what exactly is DeepMind doing with those patient records?"</p><p>To the surprise of several people in the audience, Davies replied. He said:</p><p>Through the <a href="https://drive.google.com/a/businessinsider.com/file/d/0BwQ4esYYFC04NFVTRW12TTFFRFE/view" target="_blank">data-sharing agreement with the NHS</a>, first obtained by New Scientist, Google will be able to see, for example, information about people who are HIV-positive as well as details of drug overdoses and abortions, according to New Scientist.</p><p>Critics have questioned why Google is <a href="http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2016/may/04/googles-deepmind-shouldnt-be-sucking-up-our-nhs-records-in-secret" target="_blank">sucking up vast amounts of medical data in secret</a> just to build a kidney monitoring app.</p><p>The NHS has approximately 1,500 data-sharing agreements in place with non-NHS organisations. Patients are not told about each of these agreements before they are signed "because it's not practical," <a href="http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3573286/NHS-trust-handed-private-patient-details-Google-says-implied-permission-emerges-hospital-talks-internet-giant.html" target="_blank">MailOnline reported</a>.</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_left"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Google DeepMind</span></p><p class="caption">Google DeepMind's kidney monitoring app, Streams.</p></div><p></p></div></div>Daniel Nesbitt, research director of privacy and civil liberties pressure group Big Brother Watch, said in a statement earlier this week: "With more and more information being shared about us it's becoming clear that in many cases members of the public simply don't know who has access to their information.</p><p>"All too often we see data being shared without the informed consent or proper understanding of those it will actually affect.</p><p>"It's vital that patients are properly informed about any plans to share their personal information."</p><p>Dominic King, a senior scientist at Google DeepMind, <a href="http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-36191546" target="_blank">told the BBC</a>: "Access to timely and relevant clinical data is essential for doctors and nurses looking for signs of patient deterioration. This work focuses on acute kidney injuries that contribute to 40,000 deaths a year in the <keyword id="6354868" type="COUNTRY" weightage="60" keywordseo="UK">UK</keyword>, many of which are preventable.</p><p>"The kidney specialists who have led this work are confident that the alerts our system generates will transform outcomes for their patients.
