India-origin <keyword id="135342" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Pankaj-Patel">Pankaj Patel</keyword> is soon going to join the executive leadership team of global IT giant <keyword id="6390344" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Cisco">Cisco</keyword>, which has restructured its top management recently under the guidance of CEO <keyword id="2168427" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Chuck-Robbins">Chuck Robbins</keyword>. Patel has studied engineering at the Birla Institute of Technology and Science (<keyword id="51724" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="BITS">BITS</keyword>) in India, according to an Economic Times report. 

	Patel, 60, will continue to lead Cisco's development engineers and the company's $36-billion technology portfolio. The Indian-origin engineer, who joined the company in 1996, leads a global team of about 28,000 people. 
 

	He already served the American company as a senior vice-president and general manager for its service provider business. He was responsible for the Cisco IGX product line and software development for all Cisco ATM switches, the company said on its website. 
 Patel joined Cisco through its acquisition of <keyword id="2892807" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Stratacom">Stratacom</keyword>. Patel also holds a master's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. 

	He was a founding leader of Cisco’s first multi-service access business unit, developing strategy for access routers and voice-over-packet technology and delivery.

 Among the other people nominated for the post are <keyword id="45123" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="HDFC">HDFC</keyword> Chairman <keyword id="6448020" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Deepak-Parekh">Deepak Parekh</keyword> and <keyword id="6354512" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Infosys">Infosys</keyword> Chairman <keyword id="484178" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="R-Seshasayee">R Seshasayee</keyword> as well. The names have been forwarded to the ministry for approval, a top official told the <keyword id="6474066" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="economic-times">Economic Times</keyword>. 
 In January this year, L&amp;T Chairman AM <keyword id="50744" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Naik">Naik</keyword> who was earlier holding this post had stepped down. In March, the institute had named <keyword id="63358" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Cadila-Healthcare">Cadila Healthcare</keyword> Chairman <keyword id="135342" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Pankaj-Patel">Pankaj Patel</keyword> as interim chairman.

The choice of Congress party this time is Pankaj Sanghvi who lost in a narrow margin of 49,852 votes against Sumitra Mahajan in 1998 elections. There are eight assembly segments in the Parliamentary constituency of Indore. The total number of electors in the constituency recorded as per the 2014 statistics is 2,115,303 with the figure comprising of 1,106,461 males and 1,008,842 females. Indore reported a voter turnout of 64.44% in 2019 general elections, which is up against the 62.25% voter turnout recorded in 2014.

New Delhi, Jul 6 () Drug firm Zydus Cadila on Monday said it has received approval from Mexico's regulatory authority Cofepris to test one of its lead research candidate Desidustat in the management of COVID-19. "Clinical and regulatory development of Desidustat in COVID-19 is being executed in Mexico by Avant Santé Research Center S.A. de C.V., a leading contract research organisation headquartered in Monterrey, Mexico," Cadila Healthcare said in a regulatory filing. The company said it will conduct a study to evaluate the efficacy and safety of Desidustat tablets for the management of COVID-19 patients. "As a part of the study, 100 mg tablets of Desidustat will be administered for a period of 14 days along with recommended standard care during the trial," the company added. Zydus Cadila Chairman Pankaj R Patel said, "At Zydus, we have been stepping up our efforts to fight the COVID-19 pandemic through therapeutic drugs, diagnostics and vaccines. With Desidustat we will study a novel approach for management of COVID-19". Zydus had initiated two phase-III trials of Desidustat. Last week, Zydus had received approval from Indian authorities to start human trials for its COVID-19 vaccine contender - the second Indian pharmaceutical firm to get such nod amid a surge in novel coronavirus infections worldwide. Zydus Cadila gets approval from Mexican authority to test COVID-19 drug

New Delhi, Dec 5 () Drug firm Zydus Cadila on Thursday said it has filed New Drug Application (NDA) with the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) for Saroglitazar Mg, used in treatment of liver disease.
 "Zydus Cadila...has filed the NDA of Saroglitazar Mg in non-alcoholic Steatohepatitis (NASH) with the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI)," the drug firm said in a regulatory filing.
 NASH is a progressive disease of the liver and a significant unmet medical need. There are currently no treatments available for the treatment of NASH.
 Saroglitazar Magnesium was launched in India during September 2013, for the treatment of hypertriglyceridemia and diabetic dyslipidemia in patients with type-2 diabetes not controlled by statins.
 "There is a significant need for new therapies for patients with NASH, who have no treatment options as their liver disease progresses, other than opting for eventual liver transplants to survive," Zydus Group Chairman said Pankaj R Patel said.
 Saroglitazar Mg has demonstrated beneficial effects in NASH animal models, the filing said adding that Saroglitazar Mg favourably affects all components of NASH including steatosis, ballooning, inflammation and fibrosis in NASH models.
 "We are very pleased that our NDA filing has been accepted for review which we believe represents an important step towards providing an innovative treatment option for millions of patients suffering from this devastating liver disease," Patel said.
 Saroglitazar Mg has previously demonstrated improvement in both liver enzymes along with favorable effects on lipid and glycemic indices in patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease in Phase II clinical trials. SID DRR

Zydus Cadila files NDA for Saroglitazar Magnesium

New Delhi, Feb 3 () Drug firm Zydus Cadila on Monday said that it has received approval from Drug Controller General of India (DGCI) for Saroglitazar Magnesium used in treatment of diabetes.
 "Zydus Cadila has received the approval from the Drug Controller General of India for use of Saroglitazar Mg in the treatment of type II diabetes mellitus as an add-on therapy with Metformin," the drug firm said in a filing to BSE.
 Type II diabetes is a condition in which cells cannot use blood sugar (glucose) efficiently for energy.
 In India, the drug was previously approved in 2013 for the treatment of hypertriglyceridemia and diabetic dyslipidemia .
 More than one million patients are being treated with Saroglitazar (Lipaglyn).
 "Insulin resistance is one of the primary causes of diabetes and there is a huge unmet medical need for a safe and effective insulin sensitizer. Saroglitazar is an important scientific and medical breakthrough in our effort to develop medicines for patients suffering from type 2 diabetes mellitus," Zydus Group Chairman Pankaj Patel said.
 With increasing cases of diabetes in India, the need to strengthen diabetes management and help patients control their blood sugar levels is of critical importance, he said. SID ANS

New Delhi, Jan 15 () Industry body Indian Pharmaceutical Alliance (IPA) on Wednesday said there was no discussion on 'uniform code for pharmaceutical marketing practices' in the meeting convened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the healthcare industry on January 1.
 The meeting was called to discuss future road map for growth of the healthcare industry, the IPA said in a statement.
 The focus of the discussion was to promote research and development, build innovation ecosystem, improve access to high-quality medicine and strengthen global competitiveness of the industry, it added.
 The purpose was to take the industry to the next level and leverage opportunities going forward in the pharmaceutical sector besides discussing growth opportunities in the Medtech and hospital sector, IPA said.
 "There was no discussion on uniform code for pharmaceutical marketing practices in the meeting," it added.
 The industry body was reacting to media reports that said the prime minister had warned India's top pharmaceutical companies to strictly adhere to marketing ethics, and not to bribe doctors with women, foreign trips and gadgets.
 The meeting was attended by leading figures such as Satish Reddy from Dr Reddy's, Ajay Piramal from Piramal Group, Pankaj Patel from Cadila Healthcare, Dilip Shanghvi from Sun Pharma, Dr Habil Khorakiwala from Wockhardt and Shobana Kamineni from Apollo Hospitals Group, the statement said. AKT HRS

New Delhi, Mar 5 () Pharmaceutical major Zydus Cadila on Thurday said it has received Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) approval for its new drug application for Saroglitazar to treat a particular condition of liver, commonly known as NASH in India.Non-Cirrhotic Non-Alcoholic SteatoHepatitis (NASH) is a progressive disease of the liver, which starts with fat accumulation in the liver known as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. This condition could progress to cirrhosis and liver failure, the company said in a statement.Commenting on the approval, Zydus Group Chairman Pankaj Patel said, "We are happy that our efforts to discover and develop a novel drug for patients living with NASH, an unmet healthcare need globally, have been successful. Saroglitazar will provide hope and new lease of life for millions of patients in India suffering from NASH".The company had launched Saroglitazar in India in September 2013 for treatment of diabetic dyslipidemia and hypertriglyceridemia in patients with Type-2 diabetes not controlled by statins alone.In January this year, Saroglitazar received an approval for the treatment of Type-2 diabetes Mellitus. In the last seven years, over a million patients have benefitted from this drug, Zydua Cadila said.The drug has been found to reduce significantly liver fat, liver enzymes and disease activity during trials in India, the company said, adding it has also met primary and secondary endpoints during trials in the US. Ahmedabad, Feb 15 () Pharmaceutical major Zydus Cadila on Saturday said it has initiated an accelerated research programme with multiple teams in India and Europe for developing a vaccine for coronavirus.The first approach deals with development of a DNA vaccine against the major viral membrane protein responsible for the cell entry of the novel corona virus, now called COVID-19, the company said in a statement.The plasm id DNA would be introduced into the host cells, where it would be translated into the viral protein and elicit a strong immune response mediated by the cellular and humoral arms of the human immune system, which play a vital role in protection from disease as well as viral clearance.The second approach deals with development of a live attenuated recombinant measles virus vectored vaccine against COVID-19. The recombinant measles virus (rMV) produced by reverse genetics would express codon-optimised proteins of the novel coronavirus and will induce long-term specific neutralizing antibodies, which will provide protection from the infection."There is an urgent and pressing need to develop a safe and efficacious vaccine that can prevent the spread of this deadly virus. Our researchers are working to bring a speedy solution to this most devastating outbreak in recent times," Zydus Group Chairman Pankaj R Patel said.The Novel Coronavirus outbreak, which started in December 2019, has so far infected over 67,000 people and has claimed over 1,500 lives. New Delhi, Dec 21 () From policy stability to emphasis on exports of local goods, key industry players on Saturday discussed and suggested measures for making India a USD 5 trillion economy.
SAIL Chairman Anil Kumar Chaudhary, ITC Chairman and Managing Director Sanjiv Puri, Cadila Healthcare Chairman Pankaj R Patel, Bharti Enterprises Vice Chairman Rajan Bharti Mittal and JK Paper Vice Chairman and Managing Director Harsh Pati Singhania took part in the discussion during a session on 'India: Roadmap to a USD 5 trillion economy' organised by industry chamber FICCI here.
The executives stressed on the need for Indian manufacturing to become globally competitive and join global value chain as the key ingredients for becoming a USD 5 trillion economy.
"If we have to reach the level of USD 5 trillion economy by the next five years, we have to be globally competitive. India also needs to increase its exports of steel and other manufactured items," SAIL Chairman Chaudhary said.
Cadila Healthcare Chairman Patel said that policy stability is required for any business to grow. "Without policy stability it becomes impossible for industry to plan long-term goals."
"We all know that manufacturing is not something we can decide today and begin the production tomorrow. It takes time. Besides, innovation has the most important role to play for any industry to survive," he said.
Bharti Enterprises' Rajan Mittal suggested that the government should focus on strengthening the digital backbone of the country.
Industry has been disrupted, he said adding that government's intervention is needed.
J K Paper's Singhania said the country's manufacturing sector first needs to become internally competitive as several factors are still holding it back including the multiplicity of regulations from different regulators.
ITC CMD Puri said that "farming is a large employer. Lots of jobs were created in the post-harvest management". 
"Even the food processing segment has the largest employment to capital ratio. We need to plug into the global value chains in value-added agricultural products," he added. ABI MKJ

Industry captains discuss road map for USD 5 trn economy

New Delhi, Mar 3 () Pharmaceutical major Zydus Cadila on Tuesday said it has received approval from the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) to initiate Phase I clinical trials for a new drug entity intended to treat Rheumatoid Arthritis. The DCGI has approved conducting test on a limited number of patients for investigational new drug ZYBK2, which is a new chemical entity (NCE), the company said in a regulatory filing. ZYBK2 has been specifically designed to inhibit a particular genetic sequence -- HLA-DRBI shared epitope (SE) -- that determines susceptibility of a person to develop Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA). The vast majority of RA patients carry this genetic sequence, it added. The molecule addresses high unmet medical need and has a large market potential for treatment of the disease. Commenting on the development, Zydus Group Chairman Pankaj Patel said, "There is significant unmet medical needs among patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis. Unlike other therapeutic strategies for managing RA, targeting upstream molecular interactions with ZYBK2 is less likely to cause adverse events." He further said: "This clinical trial will seek to find answers if inhibiting HLA-DRBl-mediated effects could provide a safe remedy for treating this debilitating disease." The company said nearly 13 million people are estimated to suffer from RA, which is a progressive, systemic autoimmune disease that affects at least 1 in every 100 people worldwide. Autoimmune diseases cause the body's immune system to mistakenly attack one's own healthy normal tissues.
