COVID-19: Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to use an oxygen concentrator at home

New Delhi, The <keyword id="6354651" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="ban">ban</keyword> imposed by the <keyword id="6354416" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-Army">Indian Army</keyword> on the usage of 89 smartphone applications, including social media platforms like <keyword id="6354576" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="facebook">Facebook</keyword> and <keyword id="819905" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Instagram">Instagram</keyword>, since June last year, has been highly successful. Of the 1.3 million strong Indian Army, only eight personnel were found to have violated the ban. <keyword id="233909" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="official-sources">Official sources</keyword> told that at least 730 Army officers have been authorised to enforce the ban which came into effect last year, on July 15. The apps included 59 Chinese apps banned by the government for general public. Most of the applications are American and Chinese. Following the violence face-off between <keyword id="3658" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="India">India</keyword> and <keyword id="1334" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="China">China</keyword> along the Line of Actual Control in Eastern Ladakh last year, the Army imposed the ban to prevent cyber attacks, illegal accumulation of digital data and leakage of sensitive information. In last few years, several cases of Army personnel were discovered where they were honey-trapped on Facebook resulting in leakage of sensitive information related to the Indian military and the government. "Till five years ago, everything was open to our personnel. Anyone could access anything," an official said. Though the Army had been issuing several directives on the use of Facebook for personal life and WhatsApp for official work, but only in June last year, it made stringent rules for the violations. The ban has been enforced by seeking undertakings from each soldier and officer across the country, that they have deleted their accounts and they have not installed any of the applications on their phones. Official sources told IANS that around 730 authorised officers are to review if the Army personnel are abiding by the rule every now and then and issue certificates of compliance. Only eight cases were found to be in violation of the rules, sources said adding that the punishment for violations includes conventional penalties in the Army for indiscipline. In some cases, the personnel have been asked to carry sand sacks on their backs and run on the ground for a whole week, sources said. In serious cases, sources said, the punishment can be severe, including suspension or termination of services. "But Indian Army is a highly disciplined institution and the ban has been quite effective so far," an officer said. Within the military institutions, academies and offices, the Army, is however allowed to access platforms like Facebook on their internet browsers on their desktops to monitor content. But no personnel is allowed to have an account or the application, sources said. Army sources said everyone in the military now connects with their families and friends in the old way: "We all speak on phone instead of private messengers and social media." The families of the Army personnel and officers are, however, not bound by the directive. "They are common citizens who are entitled to the same rights as others," an official said. There are some in-house applications like Sandesh and Vishesh which Army personnel have been using for messaging purposes as an alternative to WhatsApp, sources said. Indian Army sources say the ban on use of Facebook and Instagram by the forces has been successful

The <keyword id="6354766" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Gujarat">Gujarat</keyword> government on Wednesday decided to reopen high and higher secondary <keyword id="37180" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="schools">schools</keyword> and colleges in the state from November 23 subject to adherence of Covid-19 guidelines. However, there has been no decision on reopening of primary schools. The government said it will analyse the feedback on implementation of Wednesday's decision and then decide. <keyword id="6355445" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="education">Education</keyword> Minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama said: "A Cabinet meeting chaired by Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Wednesday decided to reopen schools and colleges in the state. Before that, I held discussions with my department officials, education experts, academics and other stakeholders on continuation of studies. "The Cabinet decided that after Diwali, from November 23, all high and higher secondary schools, colleges and universities will hold teaching in their respective premises. For this, they shall strictly follow the Standard Operating Protocol of the central government." "In the first stage, in colleges and universities, classes for postgraduate, medical and paramedical students will be resumed. Moreover, classes of only final-year students of undergraduate courses will be resumed. In engineering streams also, classes of final-year students will resume. Similarly, ITIs and polytechnics will be reopened. The present system of providing online education will also have to be continued by various institutes in the state," added Chudasama. The Minister said that the decision was applicable to all schools and colleges in the state -- government, grant in aid, self-financed, Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya and all schools under Social Justice and Empowerment Department. For the remaining schools, the government will decide later. The Minister said that though attendance by students will not be mandatory, schools and colleges will have to obtain written consents from parents on a form provided by the government. Principals of all educational institutions will ensure that all SOP are in place and followed in letter and spirit. The teaching staff and all students coming to the institutions will be checked for body temperatures through thermal guns. "For physical distancing, we are giving the educational institutions the option of odd-even formula and alternate-day teaching so that students keep safe distance. It will also be ensured that students, even during recess or other times, don't crowd and maintain physical distance," added Chudasama. "The Education Department officials and District Education Officers will monitor schools and colleges in their respective areas and submit daily reports to us," the Education Minister added. For the continuation of education in primary schools, Chudasama said: "After we get a feedback on this decision and how it works out, the government will decide on resuming studies in primary schools." Mayer, who is also the COO of ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, said that their creator managers are actively engaging with top creators to reassure them of their efforts and updates about the path forward. "Our platform has encountered an unfortunate challenge in India. However, we stay resolved and committed to our mission, and are working with stakeholders to address their concerns," Mayer said in a message addressed to about 2,000 <keyword id="9496191" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="tiktok-employees-in-india">TikTok employees in India</keyword>. "TikTok continues to comply with all data privacy and security requirements under Indian law and places the highest importance on user privacy and integrity," he added. The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has directed telecom operators and internet service providers to block access to all the 59 Chinese apps, including TikTok, banned by the government with immediate effect. DoT has asked all the service players to comply with the order and submit compliance reports. Mayer said that since 2018, the company has worked hard to ensure that over 200 million users in India are able to express their joy and creativity, celebrate self-expression, and share experiences with a growing global community. "TikTok has enabled hundreds of millions of users to enjoy the creative works of artists, storytellers, educators and performers from across the country who have forged new avenues of livelihood improvement," he stressed. After the ban came into force, the Chinese short-video making app said it was in the process of complying with the Indian government order. Nikhil Gandhi, Head of TikTok India, said that the company has been invited to meet with concerned government stakeholders for an opportunity to respond and submit clarifications. And that’s why the tech giant might believe the Singapore-holding could make things easier. Singapore has been a safe haven for many Indian companies including Flipkart who are registered there to overcome tax hurdles, and the country is also increasingly becoming a gateway for Chinese companies into the South East Asian region. Amid India-China standoff, Tencent is back with an investment in Flipkart
