Prime Minister <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword> today hailed <keyword id="6358064" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="ISRO">ISRO</keyword> scientists for the successful launch of six Singapore satellites, saying it was a "momentous feat". 
 "Our scientists at @isro accomplish another momentous feat. Congrats to them on <keyword id="3109691" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="PSLV-C29">PSLV-C29</keyword> successfully launching 6 Singapore satellites," he tweeted. 
 
"The launch, coming at a time when we mark 50 years of India-Singapore ties is significant. India cherishes strong relations with Singapore," he said.

PM Narendra Modi hails ISRO for successful launch of Singapore
satellites

2018 proved to be one of the busiest years for Indian Space Research Organisation. From launching 31 satellites in one go to rolling plans about India’s second lunar exploration mission in 2019, the country took several steps to mark its presence among the top space explorers around the globe. Hyperspectral imaging allows the satellites to identify objects from outer space. With the launch, S. <keyword id="116095" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-Space-Research-Organisation">Indian Space Research Organisation</keyword> (ISRO) is going to launch six Singapore satellites from Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle-C29 (PSLV) tomorrow on December 16. 
 
The satellites will lift off from Satish Dhawan Space Centre in the spaceport of Sriharikota at 6pm. 
 
The 59-hour-countdown begun at 7am on December 14. 
 
"Yes countdown is progressing normally," an official said. 
 
ISRO said the filling of propellant in PS4 stage (fourth stage) were completed. 
 
ISRO would launch the six satellites into a 550 km circular orbit inclined at 15 degrees to the equator. It is using its trusted workhorse PSLV which is on its 32nd flight in 'core-alone' configuration without the use of solid strap-on motors. 
 
Of the six satellites, TeLEOS-1 is the primary satellite weighing 400 kgs whereas the other five satellites include two micro-satellites and three nano-satellites. 
 
TeLEOS-1 is the first Singapore commercial earth observation satellite.It would be launched into a low Earth orbit for "remote sensing" applications. 
 
Antrix Corporation Ltd, the commercial arm of ISRO, has provided launch services in PSLV for 51 customer satellites from 20 countries so far.

 This trend in Earth observation allows for a high level of differentiation that’s a huge improvement over the normal optical images used in conventional satellites. Experts in earth observation have <a href="https://www.thehindu.com/sci-tech/science/isro-to-develop-full-fledged-earth-observation-satellite/article19458651.ece">called</a> the technology the ‘CATSCAN’ of Earth from space. The agency plans on using this technology to help with agriculture, soil quality, coastal zones, and inland waters among other geological environments. It’s all about the chip Hyperspectral imaging has been around for a while but each country has its own take on how to implement it. In <keyword id="3658" type="COUNTRY" weightage="20" keywordseo="India">India</keyword>’s case, the crux of hypex imaging lies in an optical imaging detector chip <a href="https://www.isro.gov.in/isro-develops-optical-imaging-detector-array-hyperspectral-imaging-applications">developed</a> by the Space Applications Centre (SAC) and manufactured by Semi Conductor Limited (SCL). The chip is capable of capturing images that can read upto 1,000 x 66 pixels.

Narrower measurement of wavelengths translates into more detailed imaging. Even in terms of scope, the former can identify 55 different spectral bands while the latter is only capable of capturing a maximum of 10 bands. India has already experimented with imaging spectroscopy when it launched the Chandrayaan-1, which had a hyperspectral camera on board to help map out the mineral resources available on the moon. The chairman of ISRO, K Sivan, told the <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/isro-to-launch-hyperspectral-imaging-sat-with-30-foreign-satellites-on-nov-29/articleshow/66801810.cms">Times of India</a>, “We are going to launch HySIS at 9.59 am on November 29 from Sriharkota. India’s space agency is planning a massive launch of over 30 satellites this week, including one capable of ‘hyperspectral’ imaging

He was instrumental in developing a mechanism which was used in 'Bahubali' rocket that launched Chandrayaan 2.  Inadequate compensation In 1994, Narayan was accused of stealing classified information and sharing it with Pakistan. Though he was cleared of all allegations in by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Supreme Court in 1998 — only ₹1 lakh was offered in compensation. Disappointed with the treatment meted out to him, Narayanan approached the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to seek damages for the torture and mental agony that he had to endure during his 50-day incarceration.

 The scandal had damaged his honour and thus began his journey to salvage his innocence by circling the courts. To compensate him for the unlawful detention, the Kerala cabinet has now approved ₹1.3 crore ($180,000) as compensation. The road to becoming ISRO chairman Before the scandal broke, Narayanan was on the road to success at ISRO. “I could have become the chairman of ISRO, without any doubt, but I am not sad. What is sad is that because of my dream job, I did not take care of my family,” he said in an interview with <a href="https://theprint.in/india/governance/the-spy-who-wasnt-space-scientist-nambi-narayanan-fought-for-his-innocence-for-24-years/118914/">The Print</a>.

During his stint at ISRO, Narayan is credited for developing India’s first liquid-propellant motor. The motor forms the backbone for the advanced cryogenic engine, which now powers India’s ‘<a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/why-chandrayaan-2-will-take-7-weeks-to-reach-moon/articleshow/70346159.cms">Bahubali</a>’ rocket — the Geosynchronous Launch Vehicle (GSLV). It is the biggest rocket in India’s portfolio and is responsible for missions like <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/chandrayaan-2-fails-in-the-final-seconds-of-descent-to-moons-south-pole/articleshow/71018196.cms">Chandrayaan 2</a>, India’s second mission to the Moon.

Ironically, it was being close to the cryogenic engine project that <a href="https://www.indiatoday.in/magazine/special-report/story/19941231-key-questions-about-spy-scandal-remain-unanswered-month-after-spy-ring-exposed-810101-1999-11-30">cast suspicions on him</a> since it gave him access to its proprietary functioning.

 Accused of being a spy Narayanan says that the authorities not only tortured him during his nearly 2-month arrest but also coerced false confessions out of him. At the time, the investigators stated that Narayanan had “been wanting to quit his job for the past two years,” according to <a href="https://www.indiatoday.in/magazine/special-report/story/19941231-key-questions-about-spy-scandal-remain-unanswered-month-after-spy-ring-exposed-810101-1999-11-30">India Today</a>. At the time, he never realised that clearing his name would take another two decades. Even former President and rocket scientist APJ Abdul Kalam told him to give up, but Narayanan claims that he had made it his life’s mission to prove that it was not a spy.

 Here comes the Padma Bhushan In 2018, justice finally came. The Supreme Court ruled he was “arrested unnecessarily, harassed and subjected to mental cruelty” finally clearing him of all charges. The verdict also directed that a committee should be set to look into the activities of the police officers behind the arrest. In January 2019, Narayanan’s contributions to India’s space programme were finally recognised when the government awarded him the Padma Bhushan — the third-highest civilian award in the country.
