The data it collects will help organisations globally to detect, monitor and predict global phenomena in real-time. “The data from Pixxel’s satellite will be used to solve some of humanity’s most pressing problems today such as flagging pest infestations and crop diseases in time, detecting forest fires early, talking air and water pollution levels, detecting oil spills and gas leaks and mapping large scale geological changes among other things,” said Awais in a statement. The Bengaluru-based satellite imaging startup had joined hands with NewsSpace India Limited (<keyword id="7835598" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="nsil">NSIL</keyword>) — the commercial arm of ISRO — after the Modi administration announced new space reforms in 2020. Indian space startup Pixxel won’t be launching its satellite on February 28

After security alarm was raised surrounding the news that the website of <keyword id="6358064" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="ISRO">ISRO</keyword>'s commercial arm <keyword id="553564" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Antrix-Corporation-Limited">Antrix Corporation Limited</keyword> was hacked, ISRO officials said the problem occurred due to a purposeful attempt by someone to link the home page to another page. 

	"It appears that the Antrix website has not been hacked, but might have been a purposeful attempt by someone who linked the home page to another page," the ISRO official told PTI.

	The website of Antrix was reportedly hacked yesterday and thereafter the work to fix the problem was taken up by Antrix officials and it was blocked immediately. 
 

	"The problem is there but there should not be any cause of worry because the website does not contain sensitive data which could be detrimental for India's security," he said. 
 

	Asked if it was an internal or international attempt to cause damage, he said, "We still cannot say who that someone is. Investigations are on." 
 

	The official added that the attempt to link the homepage to other page could be to gain popularity. The probe is on, or could be for some other reason. 
 Damage to Antrix website comes two days after ISRO successfully launched five British commercial satellites on board <keyword id="2933085" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="PSLV-C28">PSLV-C28</keyword> from Sriharikota in its heaviest commercial mission.

Antrix website not hacked, damage done purposefully

The Indian Space Research Organisation (<keyword id="6358064" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="ISRO">ISRO</keyword>) is all set for its "heaviest" commercial mission to place five <keyword id="2939016" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="British-satellites">British satellites</keyword> in the orbit. The countdown begins today for the launch of India's <keyword id="2933085" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="PSLV-C28">PSLV-C28</keyword> on July 10 from <keyword id="6355143" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Sriharikota">Sriharikota</keyword> in Andhra Pradesh. 

	An ISRO official told PTI that the 62.5-hour countdown began on Wednesday at 07.28 a.m. and is progressing smoothly. 
 ISRO's workhorse Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) will blast off on July 10 at 9.58 p.m. from the <keyword id="6356967" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Satish-Dhawan-Space-Centre">Satish Dhawan Space Centre</keyword> at Sriharikota, about 90 km from Chennai. 

	With the overall lift-off mass of the five satellites amounting to about 1,440 kg, this mission becomes the "heaviest commercial mission" ever undertaken by the Indian space agency and its commercial arm Antrix.
 

	The official said that the Mission Readiness Review Committee and Launch Authorization Board cleared the countdown for the PSLV C28/ DMC3 mission on Tuesday. 
 

	In its 30th mission, PSLV will launch three identical DMC3 optical earth observation satellites, built by Surrey Satellite Technology Limited (SSTL), UK, and two auxiliary satellites.
 

	The three DMC3 satellites, each weighing 447 kg, will be launched into a 647 km Sun-Synchronous Orbit (SSO) using the high-end version of PSLV-XL. 
 

	The PSLV C28 will also carry two auxiliary satellites from UK -- CBNT-1, a technology demonstrator earth observation micro satellite built by SSTL, and De-OrbitSail, a technology demonstrator nano satellite built by Surrey Space Centre. 
 

	The five international satellites are being launched as part of the arrangement entered into between DMC International Imaging (DMCii), a wholly owned subsidiary of SSTL, UK and Antrix Corporation Limited. 
 

	The DMC3 constellation, comprising three advanced mini-satellites DMC3-1, DMC3-2 and DMC3-3, is designed to address the need for simultaneous high spatial resolution and high temporal resolution optical Earth Observation. 
 

	These satellites can take images of any target on the Earth's surface. Major application areas include surveying the resources on earth and its environment, managing urban infrastructure and monitoring disasters.

July 10 is going to be special for ISRO. Here’s why!

India plans to launch on March 28 an earth observation <keyword id="6358065" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="satellite">satellite</keyword> that will provide it near real-time images of its borders and also enable quick monitoring of <keyword id="139159" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="natural-disasters">natural disasters</keyword>. <keyword id="8831645" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Gisat-1">GISAT-1</keyword> is slated to be lofted into space by GSLV-F10 rocket from Sriharikota spaceport in <keyword id="37102" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Andhra-Pradesh">Andhra Pradesh</keyword>'s Nellore district, about 100 kms north of Chennai. "We are looking to launch this Geo imaging satellite on March 28, subject to weather conditions", an official of the Bengaluru-headquartered Indian Space Research Organisation (<keyword id="6358064" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="isro">ISRO</keyword>) told on Sunday. The rocket will place the spacecraft in a geosynchronous orbit. It will be subsequently positioned in geostationary orbit, about 36,000 kms above earth's equator, using its onboard propulsion system. The launch of GISAT-1 onboard GSLV-F10 rocket was originally planned for March 5 last year but postponed a day before the blast-off due to technical reasons. Experts said positioning the state-of-the-art agile earth observation satellite in geostationary orbit has key advantages. "It's going to be a game-changer in some sense for India", a Department of Space official said. "With onboard high resolution cameras, the satellite will allow the country to monitor the Indian land mass and the oceans, particularly its borders continuously". Listing the objectives of the mission, ISRO has earlier said the satellite would provide near real-time imaging of the large area region of interest at frequent intervals. It would help in quick monitoring of natural disasters, episodic and any short-term events. The third objective is to obtain spectral signatures of agriculture, forestry, mineralogy, disaster warning, cloud properties, snow and glacier and oceanography. GISAT-1 will facilitate near real-time observation of the Indian sub-continent, under cloud-free condition, at frequent intervals, ISRO said. The planned launch of GISAT-1, weighing about 2,268 kg, comes close on the heels of the successful February 28 PSLV- C51 mission that orbited Brazil's earth observation satellite Amazonia-1 and 18 co-passengers, including five built by students. Secretary in the Department of Space and ISRO Chairman K Sivan told last week that the technical issues that led to postponement of GISAT-1 mission have been resolved and the further delay in the launch was due to COVID-19-induced lockdown which affected normal work. According to sources, GISAT-1 will be followed by the maiden flight of Small Satellite Launch Vehicle, ISRO's compact launcher, likely in April. SSLV has been designed to meet "launch on demand" requirements in a cost-effective manner for small satellites in a dedicated and ride-share mode. It is a three-stage all solid vehicle with a capability to launch up to 500 kg satellite mass into 500 km low earth orbit (LEO) and 300 kg into Sun Synchronous Orbit (SSO). By comparison, PSLV -- the workhorse launch vehicle of ISRO -- can take up to 1,750 kg payload into SSO of 600 km altitude. With lower per kg launch cost, the mini launcher will have multiple satellite mounting options for nano, micro and small satellites. Sivan had earlier termed the SSLV an innovative vehicle which can be assembled in just 72 hours. "Instead of 60 days (for building a PSLV), it (SSLV) will be assembled in three days; instead of 600 people (needed to build a PSLV), it (SSLV) will be done by six people", he had said. India likely to launch its 'eye in the sky' satellite GISAT-1 on March 28 to monitor borders and natural disasters

Bengaluru, State-run <keyword id="7803427" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="NewSpace-India">NewSpace India</keyword> Ltd (NSIL), the commercial arm of the space department, bagged orders to launch four foreign satellites for earth observation from <keyword id="6355143" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="sriharikota">Sriharikota</keyword> spaceport in Andhra Pradesh, a top official said on Friday. "We have signed contracts with four foreign customers to launch four satellites in the earth's lower orbit using the PSLV and SSLV rockets of the Indian space agency <keyword id="6358064" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="isro">ISRO</keyword> (<keyword id="116095" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-Space-Research-Organisation">Indian Space Research Organisation</keyword>) from its spaceport at Sriharikota," NSIL Chairman G. Narayanan told reporters here. The top official, however, did not disclose names of the customers or their location due to non-disclosure agreements with them. "Of the four satellites, three will be launched using ISRO's polar satellite launch vehicle (PSLV) and one with its small satellite launch vehicle (SSLV). The spacecraft will be used for earth observation applications," said Narayanan, marking the company's two years of completion. The state-run NSIL was in the news recently for launching Brazil's earth observation satellite Amazonia-1 on February 28 from the spaceport on board ISRO's PSLV-C51 rocket along with 18 other satellites. Amazonia-1 is the optical earth observation satellite of National Institute for Space Research (INPE) in Brazil. In addition to these commercial launches, NSIL will launch two communication satellites for Indian customers offering direct-to-home (DTH) services and telecom operators offering broadband services using Ku-band transponders. "The two communication satellites, to be launched by ISRO from its spaceport, will be owned and operated by us (NSIL) for customers on commercial terms for revenue-generating services," said Narayanan but declined to name the customers claiming confidentiality. Unlike the now defunct ISRO's commercial arm Antrix Corporation, which has ceased to function after its deal with Multimedia Deval fell through, the 2-year NSIL is a wholly owned state-run of the department of space as a central public sector enterprise. NSIL has been formed with Rs 10 crore paid-up capital and Rs 100-crore authorised capital. The space department has provided Rs 700 crore in the budget for fiscal 2021-22 for investing in infrastructure and capacity building to make satellites, rockets and launch them on commercial terms. "We also plan to invest Rs 2,000 crore per annum over the next five years to ramp up infrastructure to build satellites and rockets, launch them and operate their services for domestic use," asserted Narayanan. The Rs 2,000-crore for investment per annum will be raised through a mix of equity and debt. "We will also ramp up our headcount by hiring about 300 more people for stepping up operations and prepare to launch more satellites and rockets," said Narayanan on the occasion. Going forward, the fledgling company will launch heavy satellites for space applications and observation in the earth's geo-synchronous orbit by state-run and private firms. "The company has generated Rs 300 crore revenue in the first year (2019-20) of operations, Rs 400-crore in the second year (2020-21) amid the Covid pandemic through launches and space-based services from ISRO's satellites," said NSIL Director for technology and strategy D. Radhakrishnan. During its first two years of operations, the company has launched 45 auxiliary customer satellites onboard ISRO's 4 PSLV missions, including Amazonia-1. ISRO's commercial arm bags orders to launch four foreign satellites as it looks to invest ₹10,000 crore over the next five years

The 26-hour countdown for the launch of earth imaging and mapping satellite <keyword id="7494752" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Cartosat-3">CARTOSAT-3</keyword> along with 13 other nano-satellites from the US commenced, <keyword id="116095" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-Space-Research-Organisation">Indian Space Research Organisation</keyword> said on Tuesday. The space agency has planned for the launch of CARTOSAT-3 satellite, ninth in the series, from the second launch pad at spaceport of Sriharikota, about 120kms from here on November 27 at 09.28 am. "26 hours countdown for the launch of PSLV-C47 mission commenced today at 0728hrs from SDSC SHAR, Sriharikota. Launch is scheduled at 0928 hrs IST on November 27, 2019," ISRO said in its update on Tuesday. PSLV-C47 on its 49th mission would carry CARTOSAT-3 along with 13 commercial nano satellites from the United States. CARTOSAT-3 is a third generation agile advanced satellite having high resolution imaging capability. With an overall mass of 1,625kgs, CARTOSAT-3 would address the increased user's demands for the large scale urban planning, rural resource and infrastructure development, coastal land use and land cover. PSLV-C47 is the 21st flight of PSLV in the 'XL' configuration (with six solid strap-on motors), ISRO said. The 13 commercial nano satellites from the United States are being carried as part of the commercial arrangement with NewSpace India Ltd (NSIL), Department of Space. Among the 13 nano-satellites are FLOCK-4P, 12 in numbers, with mission objective of earth observation, and one satellite named MESHBED, whose mission objective is communication test bed. ISRO said Wednesday's launch would be the 74th launch vehicle mission from <keyword id="6356967" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="satish-dhawan-space-centre">Satish Dhawan Space Centre</keyword>, Sriharikota. The mission life of CARTOSAT-3 would be for five years. ISRO starts its 26-hour countdown for launch of Cartosat-3

It is also the most complex and advanced earth observation satellite that ISRO has built so far,” said ISRO chairman K Sivan after the launch. The Indian Space Research Organisation (<a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/science/space/news/heres-whats-special-about-indias-cartosat-3-launch-tomorrow/articleshow/72235988.cms">ISRO</a>) assembled the PSLV-C47 rocket in 5 segments, each weighing 45 to 50 tonnes, before catapulting it into space from the Satish Dhawan Space Center in Sriharikota. The massive 44.4-meter tall rocket with a lift-off mass of 321 tonnes, heaved took from the Second Launch Pad at 9:28 am. At lift-off time, the weather was a little cloudy, wind speeds benign indicating good conditions for the launch, according to the ISRO announcer. The launch The first stage of the launch was initiated as the first of the four engines, PS 1, was ignited. At 37 kilometers of altitude, the four groundless rockets burnt out in 92 seconds and separated from the main vehicle. After 113.2 seconds, the second stage of the launch was initiated at 115 kilometers. At 161.1 seconds the launch vehicle entered closed-loop guidance, which means that the vehicle was now deciding its future functions by comparing its current location to the target conditions. At 267 seconds, the third stage was initiated and lasted 229 seconds. Before moving onto the fourth stage, the launch vehicle was given a coasting period of 115 seconds to achieve optimal ignition conditions. At 17 minutes, the fourth stage was shut off and the mission director announced optimal orbital conditions were met. A few seconds later, ISRO separated the Cartosat-3 satellite separated from the launch vehicle. Following which the MESHBED was launched into orbit. All of the satellites needed to be placed in similar but different orbits. So a gap of around 3 minutes was given to ensure that they don’t enter the same orbit at the Cartosat-3 or fourth stage of the launch vehicle. More about the payloads The third generation of Cartosat satellites, the Cartosat-3, is the ninth overall in the Carosat series. It weighs 1,625 kilograms and can click detailed images of up to 0.25 meters in resolution. "The realisation of Carosat-3 has witnessed a totally new development in the advanced technological area across the board, in all the domains -- right from the payload, the communications, the optical system, the sensors, and so on," said P. Kunhikrishnan, Direction of URSC after the successful launch. He added that the satellite is capable of very high data throughput. It is able to relay information back to Earth at speeds of 2.88 gigabits per second, a considerable improvement over its predecessor which only communicated at 6.40 megabits per second. The satellite also has terabits of solid state memory on-board. Cartosat-3 serves a dual purpose. It can monitor land usage for urban planning, rural resources, and the weather — but it can also help surveil India’s borders. In the past, area of interest (AOI) images from the Cartosat-2C satellite were used to track terrorist threats along the line of control (LoC). Twelve of the US satellites are earth observation FLOCK-4P nanosatellites and one is a MESHBED to test communications. ISRO launches Cartosat-3 and 13 US satellites within 27 minutes

(Image Credit- isro.gov.in) The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) launched its Hyperspectral Imaging Satellite (<keyword id="7066281" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="HySIS">HySIS</keyword>) along with 30 other foreign commercial satellites on 28th November from the Sriharikota launch centre using the PSLV C43 rocket. Hyperspectral imaging allows the satellites to identify objects from outer space. With the launch, S.  A ride to space in 2019 In a first, PM Narendra Modi <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/india-is-spending-1-4-billion-on-a-space-trip-and-there-are-bigger-plans-involved/articleshow/65591318.cms">announced</a> a deadline for India’s first manned space. He claimed that Indian Space Research Organisation will be sending an astronaut by 2022. While the country is still working on achieving its dream project, what grabbed everyone’s attention was the buzz about government spending on the mission. 2018 was a remarkable year for India’s space agency ISRO—Here were the top 5 successful missions

<ul><li> The Kerala cabinet has approved ₹1.3 crore ($180,000) as compensation to for S <keyword id="1371628" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Nambi-Narayanan">Nambi Narayanan</keyword> who was falsely accused of being a spy.</li><li>It took Narayanan over two decades to find justice after being tortured during his nearly 2-month detention in 1994.</li><li>This highest compensation that Narayanan has received after he petitioned the Supreme Court, which allotted ₹50 lakh in 2018. </li></ul>S Nambi Narayanan believes that he could’ve been the chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). He was instrumental in developing a mechanism which was used in 'Bahubali' rocket that launched Chandrayaan 2.  Inadequate compensation In 1994, Narayan was accused of stealing classified information and sharing it with Pakistan. Though he was cleared of all allegations in by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Supreme Court in 1998 — only ₹1 lakh was offered in compensation. Disappointed with the treatment meted out to him, Narayanan approached the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to seek damages for the torture and mental agony that he had to endure during his 50-day incarceration.

 The scandal had damaged his honour and thus began his journey to salvage his innocence by circling the courts. To compensate him for the unlawful detention, the Kerala cabinet has now approved ₹1.3 crore ($180,000) as compensation. The road to becoming ISRO chairman Before the scandal broke, Narayanan was on the road to success at ISRO. “I could have become the chairman of ISRO, without any doubt, but I am not sad. What is sad is that because of my dream job, I did not take care of my family,” he said in an interview with <a href="https://theprint.in/india/governance/the-spy-who-wasnt-space-scientist-nambi-narayanan-fought-for-his-innocence-for-24-years/118914/">The Print</a>.

During his stint at ISRO, Narayan is credited for developing India’s first liquid-propellant motor. The motor forms the backbone for the advanced cryogenic engine, which now powers India’s ‘<a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/why-chandrayaan-2-will-take-7-weeks-to-reach-moon/articleshow/70346159.cms">Bahubali</a>’ rocket — the Geosynchronous Launch Vehicle (GSLV). It is the biggest rocket in India’s portfolio and is responsible for missions like <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/chandrayaan-2-fails-in-the-final-seconds-of-descent-to-moons-south-pole/articleshow/71018196.cms">Chandrayaan 2</a>, India’s second mission to the Moon.

He was also instrumental in developing the Vikas engine, which was later used in the first <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/science/space/news/isros-nsil-completes-second-successful-launch-using-pslv-rockets/articleshow/72474132.cms">Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV)</a>. Ironically, it was being close to the cryogenic engine project that <a href="https://www.indiatoday.in/magazine/special-report/story/19941231-key-questions-about-spy-scandal-remain-unanswered-month-after-spy-ring-exposed-810101-1999-11-30">cast suspicions on him</a> since it gave him access to its proprietary functioning.

 Accused of being a spy Narayanan says that the authorities not only tortured him during his nearly 2-month arrest but also coerced false confessions out of him. At the time, the investigators stated that Narayanan had “been wanting to quit his job for the past two years,” according to <a href="https://www.indiatoday.in/magazine/special-report/story/19941231-key-questions-about-spy-scandal-remain-unanswered-month-after-spy-ring-exposed-810101-1999-11-30">India Today</a>. At the time, he never realised that clearing his name would take another two decades. Even former President and rocket scientist APJ Abdul Kalam told him to give up, but Narayanan claims that he had made it his life’s mission to prove that it was not a spy.

 Here comes the Padma Bhushan In 2018, justice finally came. The Supreme Court ruled he was “arrested unnecessarily, harassed and subjected to mental cruelty” finally clearing him of all charges. The verdict also directed that a committee should be set to look into the activities of the police officers behind the arrest. In January 2019, Narayanan’s contributions to India’s space programme were finally recognised when the government awarded him the Padma Bhushan — the third-highest civilian award in the country.
