The new rules come into effect today, but you only have to worry about the change if you plan to withdraw more than ₹10,000 at a time. Changes to PNB’s ATM rules Starting December 1, PNB account holders will now need a One Time Password (OTP) to withdraw cash of ₹10,000 or above from ATMs. Withdrawals of amounts greater than ₹10,000 will also only be available between 8:00 am to 08:00 pm. This means that if any customer has changed their registered mobile number, they will need to update their details with the bank in order to withdraw money. After SBI, PNB brings in new rules to withdraw cash from ATMs

With non-EMV PNB ATMs being shut down, it means that those machines which do not hang onto your while you make a transaction will no longer be functional starting February 1. The number of such ATMs being shut down is not known. Latest in a slew of updates for PNB In December, PNB announced that it would no longer allow customers to withdraw more than ₹10,000 from ATMs round the clock. Larger transactions would only be possible between 8:00 am to 8:00 pm. Furthermore, any transaction of more than ₹10,000 would require an one-time-password (OTP) that will be sent to the customer’s registered mobile phone number. What is EMV? EMV, an acronym for the three companies which created the security standard — Europay, Mastercard and Visa — is a technical quality level for smart payments cards. EMV cards are also called smart cards, chip cards, or integrated circuit cards. EMV chip card transitions are considered to be more secure than regular magnetic card transactions. It negates the possibility of criminal hackers cloning a customer’s card because while the magnetic strip can be copied, bad actors are yet to find a way to duplicate a chip. EMV cards generate new data every time a fresh transaction is made, which makes it nearly impossible for fraudsters to copy the original data from your card. EMV cards also generate a unique encrypted code called a token or a cryptogram for every transaction. In India, EMV cards were introduced in May 2015 by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). The apex banking institution asked all banks to gradually phase out magnetic cards and move to EMV chip cards with a deadline of 31 December 2018. Punjab National Bank is shutting down ATMs that don’t scan card chips starting today

Insurance holders can change premiums Insurance policy holders will be able to reduce the premiums on their life insurance policy by up to 50% if they have completed five years on the same policy. However, reduced premiums will also mean reduced cover. 5. LPG cylinder prices The change in LPG cylinder prices is a monthly exercise. PNB ATM withdrawals, LPG cylinders, and insurance policies — five major changes set to kick in on December 1

<keyword id="62034" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Punjab-National-Bank">Punjab National Bank</keyword> (<keyword id="47268" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="PNB">PNB</keyword>) Maestro debit cards holders will face a card blockage if they fail to replace it with a more secure <keyword id="726464" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="EMV">EMV</keyword> chip based card by the end of this month, according to PTI news report. The bank will not charge anything for the replacement and it will be provided free of cost. "If you are having Maestro debit card, git replaced free of cost with a new EMV chip based debit card from any PNB branch. All Maestro cards issued by PNB will be blocked or hotlisted on July 31, 2017 for security based reasons," the bank said in a communication to its customers. The replacement is as per RBI advisory issued in 2015, asking all the banks to migrate to a much secured EMV chip based cards, an official of the bank said. The bank has identified that there are about one lakh customers with old Maestro debit cards and has started sending them SMSes as well, an official of the bank said. Presently, PNB's card base stands at around 5.65 crore. "However, we have excluded those customers who are not using these Maestro debit cards at all with not even a single transaction in a year as making of cards involves cost as well as time," the official said. As per RBI advisory, existing magnetic stripe only cards need to be replaced with EMV chip and pin based cards by December 31, 2018, irrespective of the validity period of the cards. And from January 31, 2016 onwards, banks are directed to issue only EMV based debit and credit cards. Card replacement is important, keeping in mind digital drive of the government that has led to a drastic rise in debit card usage. "Now, people are taking interest in using debit cards. Young generation definitely use it, but people over 40 years of age are also using it and taking help from children to learn card usage," the official said.1

Mumbai, Kerala-based ESAF Small Finance Bank on Monday filed its Draft Red Herring Prospectus (DRHP) with markets regulator <keyword id="5083555" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Securities-and-Exchange-Board-of">Securities and Exchange Board of</keyword> India for an IPO. As per the DRHP, the aggregate issue size is up to ₹997.78 crore, comprising of a fresh issue component of up to ₹800 crore and an Offer for Sale up to ₹197.78 crore by promoter and other selling shareholders i.e <keyword id="8150050" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="PNB-MetLife-India-Insurance-Company">PNB Metlife India Insurance Company</keyword>, Bajaj Allianz Life Insurance Ltd, <keyword id="4412564" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Pi-Ventures-LLP">PI Ventures LLP</keyword>, and John Chakola. The net proceeds from the fresh issue will be used to augment the bank's Tier 1 capital (primarily loans, advances and investment portfolio) to meet future capital requirements. The company may consider a pre-IPO placement of up to ₹300 crore, subject to counsel from the lead managers. As per the CRISIL report, ESAF is one of the leading small finance banks in terms of yield on advances, AUM growth rate, and share of retail deposits. It currently operates across 21 states and two Union Territories with 550 branches, 421 customer service centres (which are operated by its business correspondents), 12 business correspondents, 158 banking agents and 327 ATMs and serves over 4.68 million customers. As of March 2021, ESAF's gross advances stood at ₹8,415 crore, compared with ₹6,606.51 crore a year ago and total deposits were at ₹8,999.43 crore against ₹7,028.38 crore. Additionally, the DRHP states that the bank will continue to focus on its rural and semi-urban franchisees and increase deposits across NRIs and CASA. As on date, it stands to have the highest share of retail deposits as a percentage to the total deposits when compared to the other small finance banks. Kerala-based ESAF Small Finance Bank looks to raise ₹998 crore through IPO

Cybercriminals are trying to lure Indian users into revealing important personal information with a new report on Monday warning that suspicious messages asking users to submit an application for the disbursement of income tax refund have been doing the rounds, with a link that directs users to a webpage looking like the income tax e-filing web page. The targeted banks in the campaign include the <keyword id="6354731" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="state-bank-of-india">State Bank of India</keyword>, ICICI, HDFC, <keyword id="6355975" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="axis-bank">Axis Bank</keyword> and <keyword id="62034" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Punjab-National-Bank">Punjab National Bank</keyword>, revealed an investigation by New Delhi-based think tank CyberPeace Foundation along with cybersecurity services firmAutobot Infosec. The suspicious links originate from the US and France, said the report, adding that the campaign is collecting personal as well as banking information from the user and getting into this type of trap could cause a massive financial loss for the users. The shared link with the SMS has no domain name and is not linked with the Indian government. All IP addresses associated with the campaign belong to some third party dedicated cloud hosting providers, said the report. The whole campaign uses plain http protocol instead of the secure https. This means anyone on the network or internet can intercept the traffic and get the confidential information in plain text to misuse against the victim. It asks users to download an application from a third party source instead of Google Playstore. The application asks to provide administrator rights and unnecessary access permissions of the device. On opening the link http://204.44.124[.]160/ITR, users are redirected to a landing page that is mostly similar to the government income tax e-filing website. On clicking the green 'Proceed to the verification steps' button, users are asked to submit personal information such as full name, PAN, Aadhar number, address, pincode, date of birth, mobile number, email address, gender, marital status and banking information like account number, IFSC code, card number, expiry date, CVV/CVC and card PIN. Additionally, the bank name is automatically detected from the IFSC code entered in the form. After submission of data, users are redirected to a page where they are asked to confirm the entered data. Clicking on the green 'confirm' button directs users to a fake banking login page almost similar to the official one. It asks for the username and password for online banking. After these details are entered, for the next step, users are asked to enter a Hint question, Answer, Profile password and CIF number. Once submitted, a mobile verification section with instructions provided to download an android application (.apk file) appears, to complete the ITR verification. Here, users are deliberately instructed to grant all device permissions to the particular application, the investigation revealed. The application, called Certificate.apk, starts downloading upon clicking the green 'Download' link. The overall layout and functionalities of the web page used in the campaign are similar to the official e-filing site to lure laymen, said the report. New Delhi, Jun 23 () With the merger process over, state-owned PNB is looking to complete the technology integration of Oriental Bank of Commerce and United Bank of India with itself by the end of the current fiscal, the head of the country's second largest lender said. The merger of Oriental Bank of Commerce and United Bank of India with Punjab National Bank became effective from April 1. "The outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic has delayed the process of integration by a couple of months. We had planned for May. Technology integration has many dimensions, for example integration of ATM switches. We hope to complete that process by September," PNB Managing Director S S Mallikarjuna Rao told in an interview. The integration of the core banking solution platform would take slightly longer time as the merged entity had an older version of this platform, he said. "We will complete Finacle (CBS) integration and ... all surrounding technologies latest by March 2021... one bank will be migrated by December and shifting of second will be over before March," he said. With the merger, the bank now has about 11,000 branches, more than 13,000 ATMs, one lakh employees and a business mix of over Rs 18 lakh crore. Total domestic business of PNB at the end of March 2020 stood Rs 11.81 lakh crore. However balance-sheet wise, Rao said that Oriental Bank of Commerce and United Bank of India booked losses in the fourth quarter ended March 31, 2020. The losses were mainly due to provision against bad loans, he said, without giving numbers as they have not been made public. On the outlook for the current fiscal, Rao said PNB will earn moderate profit in the current fiscal, aided by treasury income and core banking activities. For the fourth quarter ended March, the bank posted a net loss of Rs 697.20 crore. However, after a gap of two years, the Nirav Modi fraud hit bank posted profit of Rs 363.34 crore in 2019-20. He also said that the bank has scaled down its loan growth target to 6 per cent for the current fiscal due to the COVID-19 crisis. However, he said, the bank has a treasury advantage due to reduction in interest rates resulting in Rs 1,000 crore gain in the first quarter of 2020-21. "We are confident that quarter-on-quarter, we can book moderate profits. We do not like to have higher profit because we want to strengthen the balance-sheet during 2020-21. "We are very confident that we will be creating a better base for the bank not only for booking moderate profit in 2020-21 but also creating a robust situation for 2021-22," he said. DP MKJ

 After petrol pumps, cash can now be withdrawn by swiping debit cards at select Ola cabs as India's largest ride-hailing service partners with lenders like <keyword id="6354731" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="State-Bank-Of-India">State Bank of India</keyword> (SBI) and <keyword id="62034" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Punjab-National-Bank">Punjab National Bank</keyword> to ease cash crunch, according to a news report by an agency. 
 
With banks and ATMs not being able to cope with the rush for access to lower denomination or new currency after old Rs 500 and 1,000 notes were banned, cash dispensing through swipe of debit cards at POS machines was introduced at around 3,700 petrol pumps. 
 The same is being replicated by Ola on a test basis in its cabs in <keyword id="6354925" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kolkata">Kolkata</keyword> and Hyderabad where taxis with a bank officer and POS machine are parked at different locations and dispense cash of Rs 2,000 per card. 
 Ola Chief Operating Officer <keyword id="2904207" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Pranay-Jivrajka">Pranay Jivrajka</keyword> told that the initial response has been tremendous and the company was exploring with banks to expand this service to other cities with cash being dispensed on the go rather than current experiment of cars being parked at a particular busy point. 
 In Kolkata, Ola has partnered with Punjab National Bank (<keyword id="47268" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="PNB">PNB</keyword>), while for Hyderabad, it has collaborated with SBI and <keyword id="6358006" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Andhra-Bank">Andhra Bank</keyword>. "The week-long activity, that is already servicing thousands of citizens, will continue till end of the month. It (cabs) will visit areas like Chandni Chowk Metro Station, Esplanade Metro, Barabazaar, Salt Lake, Exide and <keyword id="2668672" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rashbehari">Rashbehari</keyword> (in Kolkata)," he said.

Ola, which has its mobile wallet service, claimed it has seen 1500 per cent growth in recharge of 'Ola Money'. 
"The number of trips paid in cash has certainly gone down. More people are now paying using digital platforms like Ola Money and credit/debit cards," he said.

New Delhi, May 10 () At a time when the spread of COVID-19 has made social distancing a buzzword, banks have increased their reliance on social media to engage with their customers -- may it be for disseminating information or for dispelling their boredom. The government imposed a 21-day countrywide lockdown beginning March 25 to check the spread of coronavirus, and extended it twice, prompting business entities including banks to get innovative on social media. Among the noteworthy initiatives by banks during the lockdown, HDFC Bank came out with a scheme to help its customers find their hidden artistic talent. "Tired of staying home and having nothing to do? HDFC Bank Fingage presents The Art Project, to give you a #BreakFromBoredom! Unlock your creativity during the lockdown &amp; stand a chance to win exciting prizes!," tweeted the bank, trying to engage its customers during the lockdown. Punjab National Bank (PNB) has come up with a contest on the Mother's Day with a catchy slogan, "For her, you will always remain a child." Since the lockdown has made online banking more vulnerable to fraudsters, several banks are regularly warning their customers against possible frauds. "Beware of fraudsters who pose as bank officials and scam people by gaining remote access to their mobile phone screens through an app. Inform us when you identify a scamster through e-mail: epg.cms@sbi.co.in &amp; report.phishing@sbi.co.in," tweeted SBI. Similar warnings were issued by a few other lenders. "Fraudsters find new ways to target innocent people. And this time, they are targeting through banking and other payments apps to steal your hard-earned money. Be careful and keep following the #PNBKaFunda to learn the ways to avoid them," PNB tweeted. Another public sector major Canara Bank warned its customers in a tweet, "Don't get hooked by #Phishing! Always check before you click on any links. Be cautious about opening any attachments or downloading files received via email/sms , if source is unknown." A few banks have also come up with 'lockdown offers' for their customers. HDFC Bank offered discount on purchase of jewellery on Akshaya Tritya with a promise that part of the money would go to PM Cares Fund. "This Akshaya Tritya, buy jewellery from the safety of your home, with HDFC Bank Credit Cards! With every purchase above Rs.10,000, we will contribute Rs. 100 to the PM Cares Fund and you earn 5X Reward Points," HDFC Bank tweeted. Union Bank of India has offered discount on purchase of medicine. "In this difficult time, it's easy to save some cash on your pharmacy bill. Just use #UnionBankofIndia cards at your nearest Apollo Pharmacy Store to get up to 15% off," UBI said in a tweet. SBI gave a similar offer to its customers: "Get a health check from the comfort of your home with Apollo 24/7. Earn great discounts on key lab tests via YONO SBI app." Some banks are telling customers how they are tweaking services to suit the times. Union Bank of India informed its customers that for the time being there would be no charge on withdrawal of funds from ATMs of other banks. "To ease the lockdown burden, Debit card ATM withdrawals from any other bank ATMs will be free of charge till 30th June 2020," the bank said in a tweet. Banks are also making sure people in rural areas do not crowd the branches for direct benefit transfers. The country's largest lender SBI informed that the second installment of Rs 500 had been deposited in the accounts of female Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana account holders under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana. New Delhi, Apr 1 () The biggest-ever consolidation exercise in the public sector banking space effected on Wednesday will mark a new dawn for the Indian banking sector, the Finance Ministry said on Wednesday. Six public sector banks (PSBs) namely Oriental Bank of Commerce, United Bank of India, Syndicate Bank, Andhra Bank, Corporation Bank and Allahabad Bank lost their individual identity as they were merged into four bigger lenders with the objective to make them globally competitive. "PSBs' amalgamation today will mark a new dawn for #IndianBanking. Bigger &amp; stronger PSBs to to offer faster loan processing, banking @ home, need-driven credit &amp; specialized products for customers," the Department of Financial Services, which comes under the Ministry of Finance, said in a tweet. The exercise assumed significance as it took place at a time when the entire country is under the grip of the COVID-19 outbreak, which has triggered a 21-day nation-wide lockdown. Earlier in the day, Punjab National Bank said all nation-wide branches of United Bank of India and Oriental Bank of Commerce has started functioning as PNB branches. The merger has created the second largest nationalised bank of the country - both in terms of business and branch network after the State Bank of India (SBI). The amalgamated bank will have a wider geographical reach through 11,000 plus branches, more than 13,000 ATMs, one lakh employees and a business mix of over Rs 18 lakh crore. "The bigger geographical footprint will help us serve our customers more effectively and efficiently," said PNB managing director S S Mallikarjuna Rao said. Experts were of the opinion that merger at this point of time will not be very smooth and seamless. However, heads of the anchor banks exuded confidence. "We don't foresee any problem it is going as per the plan. We have reviewed in the light of this situation also. Certain modification in implementation we have done so that there is no disruption for employees and customers. We are ensuring zero disruption," Union Bank of India Managing Director Rajkiran Rai G told . The four anchor banks -- PNB, Canara Bank, Union Bank and Indian Bank -- are postponing some part of the implementation and processes due to the lockdown. "For merging banks, we have not changed some of the process like loan process etc, which we proposed to do earlier. However, because of the prevailing situation, we will be continuing old system till the situation comes under control," he said. With the merger, the bank looking at more than Rs 2,500 crore of synergy benefits in the next three years, he added. As per the mega consolidation plan announced in August last year, Oriental Bank of Commerce and United Bank of India is merged into Punjab National Bank (PNB); Syndicate Bank into Canara Bank; Andhra Bank and Corporation Bank into Union Bank of India; and Allahabad Bank into Indian Bank. Following the consolidation, there will be now seven large public sector banks (PSBs), and five smaller ones. There were as many as 27 PSBs in 2017. The total number of public sector banks in the country has come down to 12. The merger has resulted in the creation of seven large PSBs with scale and national reach, with each amalgamated entity having business of over Rs 8 lakh crore. These banks now have scale comparable to global banks and capable of competing effectively in India and globally. In addition, the consolidation is expected to provide impetus to the merged entities by increasing their ability to support larger ticket-size lending and have competitive operations by virtue of greater financial capacity. Last year, Dena Bank and Vijaya Bank were merged with Bank of Baroda. Prior to this, the government had merged five associate banks of SBI and Bharatiya Mahila Bank with the public sector bank.
