On the occassion of Teachers’ Day, the birth anniversary of Dr S Radhakrishnan, <keyword id="71" type="POSITION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Prime-Minister">Prime Minister</keyword> <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword> has taken an initiative to connect not only with teachers but with students, too. Prime Minister Narendra <keyword id="6354642" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Modi">Modi</keyword> will address the students from 3:00 pm to 4:45 pm through satellite link and live telecast on <keyword id="6408304" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="doordarshan">Doordarshan</keyword> and the website of the <keyword id="6386485" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Ministry-of-Human-Resource-Development">Ministry of Human Resource Development</keyword> (HRD). 
 
Nearly 1,000 students from various schools across Delhi will get the privilege of watching the speech at the Manekshaw Auditorium in New Delhi, which will be broadcast live by all Doordarshan channels to over 18 lakh government and private schools in the country, as well as on radio. Live streaming on the web would also be available. 
 Using the satellite link, the prime minister will also interact with students at National Information Centres in Leh, Port Blair, Silchar (Assam), Imphal, Bhuj (Gujarat), Dantewada (Chhattisgarh) and Thiruvannamalai (Tamil Nadu). However, students of <keyword id="17605" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Jammu-and-kashmir">Jammu and Kashmir</keyword> will not be able to listen to Narendra Modi's address as the state government has ordered closure of all the schools in view of heavy rain and floods. 
 
Interestingly, Narendra Modi will also take questions from some students across the country through video-conferencing. Analysts believe the move will strengthen the bond between the Prime Minister and millions of students of the nation. 
 
Many morning schools have changed their schedule so that students do not miss the first mass contact programme of its kind. If you are interested in watching the addressal too, turn on your television sharp at 3 pm.

PM Narendra Modi To Bond With Students On Teachers’ Day

Teachers’ Day used to be a silent affair. The celebrations were confined to schools’ and colleges’ four-walls alone. People who used to be really excited about this day were senior secondary students as the day gave them a chance to imitate their favourite teacher for one day. But Teacher’s Day celebrations have taken a political turn as PM Modi decides to address students across the country. 
 The PM’s act of addressing students from class VI to XII through <keyword id="6408304" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="doordarshan">Doordarshan</keyword> and <keyword id="84486" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="All-INdia-radio">All India Radio</keyword> is under scrutiny, but what’s the entire hullabaloo all about? 
 
People are seeing this as another dictatorial move by the Modi-led government. But is it really so? Forcing the students of democratic India to listen to the PM’s speech surely comes across as an autocratic move. The government could have avoided this unnecessary controversy by being more flexible in its approach and making listening to the speech voluntary. 
 Listening to the <keyword id="71" type="POSITION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Prime-Minister">Prime Minister</keyword>’s address to the nation on national events like Independence Day is not mandatory, then why on Teachers’ Day? May be the government intends to influence these young minds that can be moulded quite easily at this tender age. 
 
Even the schools are going a step ahead to appease the Modi government. According to a report, Bal Bharati Public School in Noida has issued a circular stating that, “The school will remain closed (preparatory off) on September 5 for all classes. However, for classes III to XII, the key points of the Prime Minister’s address are to be noted and learnt for the school to evaluate the same (during the upcoming examination from Monday).” It further added that one question of two marks each will be asked in each of the five main papers. 
 
In South, especially TamilNadu, where Hindi is not understood so easily, teachers have been asked to interpret Prime Minister Modi’s speech in the native language. 
 
Are these events signalling the rise of a tyranny? Or would the PM prove the critics wrong by delivering an inspirational speech and choosing not to politicise this pious occasion. Let’s not be too judgemental and wait till the speech is delivered. Modi, after all, has the knack of proving his detractors wrong.

Democratic leaders demand 'equal airtime' in response to networks saying they will air Trump's primetime address

New Delhi, Apr 14 () All training camps at Sports Authority of India (SAI) centres across the country will remain suspended till May 3 after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced an extension of the ongoing national lockdown to combat the COVID-19 pandemic. "All SAI camps were postponed till April 14 because of the ongoing lockdown. We thought of taking a decision on the way forward after April 14. But since the lockdown is extended, the camps will remained suspended till May 3," a SAI source told on Tuesday after the PM's address to the nation. However, athletes such as star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra, currently at NIS Patiala, will be allowed to stay at SAI hostels. Chopra has been in Patiala ever since returning from Turkey from a training stint last month. "The athletes who are there in SAI Bengaluru and Patiala will continue to remain there," the source said. SAI extends suspension of camps till May 3 in view of longer national lockdown

PM Modi received a number of standing ovations in his address the US joint congress session, building hopes for better relations with the country; however, when it came to officiating things, the US Senate failed to pass a key amendment of a bill that would have recognised India as a "global strategic and defence partner" of the US. 
 It was after PM Modi had address the joint session, top Republican senator <keyword id="27703" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="John-McCain">John McCain</keyword> had moved an amendment to the National Defence Authorisation Act (NDAA-17), which once passed would have recognised India as a global strategic and defence partner for the US. 
 
Even though NDAA was passed by the Senate with an overwhelming bipartisan vote of 85-13, some of its the key amendments, including SA 4618, failed to get passed. 
 
"The (Senate) amendment (No 4618) was not adopted to the NDAA," a Congressional aide said. 
 
To this, McCain expressed disappointment; however, he didn’t name India in his response. 
 
"I regret that the Senate was unable to debate and vote on several matters critical to our national security, many of which enjoyed broad bipartisan support," McCain said in a statement. 
 
"In particular, I am deeply disappointed the Senate was not able to increase the number of special immigrant visas for Afghans who risked their lives to help America in a time of war, and whose lives are still at risk today," he added. "Too often throughout this process, a single senator was able to bring the Senate's work on our national defence to a halt. This was a breakdown in the decorum of the Senate, and one that will have serious consequences."
