<ul><li>The Indian PC market recorded its second-best quarter with a shipment of 4.49 million devices in Q3 2024.</li><li>The growth in part is due to the online festival sales by e-commerce giants and retailers.</li><li>HP continues to lead the Indian PC market with a share of over 29%.</li></ul> The Indian personal computer or PC market has recorded its second highest-ever shipments at 4.49 million devices in Q3 2024, recording a 0.1% growth year-on-year.<br /><br />According to a report by the International Data Corporation (IDC), the growth in sales was recorded due to online festival sales which began early this year.<br /><br />“The e-tail sales, which typically start around the second week of October, began in late September, leading to a surge in PC shipments,” said Bharath Shenoy, Research Manager, IDC India &amp; South Asia.<br /><br />In Q3 2024, desktops recorded an 8.1% year-on-year decline, notebooks recorded a 2.8% year-on-year growth and workstations recorded a 2.4% year-on-year growth. Premium notebooks priced above $1,000 recorded a 7.6% year-on-year growth.<br /><br />“Brands capitalized on e-tail sales by offering steep discounts, cashback, and bundled accessories. Many of them also matched similar pricing in their brand stores and offline channels like Larger Format Retail stores (LFRs), leading to the second biggest consumer quarter in history,” Shenoy IDC</em><br /><br />HP leads the Indian PC market with nearly a one-third share, recording a 29% share in shipments in Q3 2024, down from 29.4% in Q3 2023.<br /><br />Lenovo is second with a market share of 17.3% in Q3 2024, up from 17% in Q3 2023. Dell has maintained its market share at 14.6%.<br /><br />Acer has recorded good growth, with its market share rising from 11.6% in Q3 2023 to 14.6% in Q3 2024. Asus on the other hand reported a decline from 12.5% in Q3 2023 to 9.7% in Q3 2024.<br /><br />“The Commercial PC Market in India is on the recovery path as enterprises have slowly started refreshing their IT devices. India’s PC market reaches new high with 4.49 million shipments in Q3 2024

<p>Apple was the PC manufacturer that lost the most market share in 2016, with its Mac laptops and desktops ceding 9.8% market share to other companies, according to a report from <a href="http://www.idc.com/getdoc.jsp?containerId=prUS42214417">analyst firm IDC</a>.  </p><p>Overall, 2016 marked the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/pc-market-shrinking-five-years-straight-good-news-for-dell-hp-2017-1">fifth consecutive year of decline</a> in the overall PC industry, with a 5.7% dip in PC shipments from 2015. Dell was the biggest winner for the year, showing a 4.3% gain in market share.</p><p>Check out the chart:</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Screenshot/IDC</span></p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>We already had some signs in the middle of 2016 that it was going to be a rough year for Apple: In the second and third quarters of the year, shipments of Apple's Macs were declining way faster than industry average, as people <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/apple-macbooks-pc-market-share-2016-10">waited impatiently for the company to release a new MacBook Pro</a>.</p><p>The fourth quarter of 2016 went a little better for Apple. That <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/apple-macbook-touch-bar-vs-microsoft-surface-studio-2016-10">new MacBook Pro,</a> which arrived in October 2016, stabilized things for Apple, and it saw a meager .8% decline over the same period in 2015, according to IDC. And <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/microsoft-surface-sales-macbook-pro-disappointment-2016-12">Microsoft says that Apple fans disappointed over the newest MacBook Pro are leaving Macs behind entirely</a> and coming over to its Surface devices. </p><p>Apple's strategy has always been to focus on the higher end of the market, where it makes more money selling fewer computers, so the company may be less concerned about market share than some of its competitors. Apple's Macs were the biggest losers of the PC industry in 2016

<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Screenshot</span></p><p class="caption">Microsoft's Panos Panay introduces the Microsoft Surface Book.</p></div><p></p></div></div>It's no secret that PC sales are shrinking, as everybody and their mothers turn to smartphones and tablets to get things done. </p><p>That has led to miserable, if expected, holiday sales for PC, with worldwide PC shipments down 10.6% year-over-year in the final three months of 2015, research firm IDC announced on Tuesday. <span>PC sales for all of 2015 came in at the lowest level since 2008, IDC said in a </span><a href="http://www.idc.com/getdoc.jsp?containerId=prUS40909316">press release</a><span>. </span></p><p>By the second half of 2016, IDC says, things should stabilize a little bit in the PC market: Enterprises and consumers alike will turn to Microsoft Windows 10, the latest version of the PC operating system, as their existing systems run into security and performance issues. </p><p>But the biggest takeaway from the IDC report, by my reckoning, is the idea that laptops with detachable tablet portions - like the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/microsoft-surface-book-first-reviews-2015-10">Microsoft Surface Book</a> - might actually be in place to stall out the shrinking PC market, which it predicts will shrink another 3.1% next year.</p><p>If you factor in these so-called detachables, IDC says, that negative 3.1% turns into a positive 1% to 2% of growth. It's not exactly a barnburner of a statistic, but any positive growth is better than the alternative. </p><p>When Microsoft first announced the Surface Book laptop, the company said the whole idea was to give its PC manufacturer partners a little shove in the direction of the detachable market. And while that market is small today, IDC acknowledges, it's growing quickly, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/ces-2016-microsoft-windows-10-terry-myerson-2016-1">spurred by the massive interest in the Surface Book and the copycat devices it's inspired</a>. </p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Microsoft</span></p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p> </p><p>Worth noting: To analysts like IDC, "detachable tablets," like the Surface Book, are distinct from tablets designed for optional keyboards, like the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 or Apple iPad Pro. So this doesn't figure in the sales of either of those tablets, or the similar devices from outside manufacturers.</p><p>Back in reality, the top PC manufacturer for 2015 was Lenovo, with 20% of the market, by IDC's reckoning. Additionally, average hourly earnings are anticipated to have increased 2.2% compared with a year ago. The report will cross the wires at 8:30 a.m. ET.</p><p><strong><a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/q1-stocks-comeback-2016-3">Q1 had one of the greatest comebacks in stock market history</a>. </strong><span>Ryan Detrick of LPL Financial noted this was the first time since the fourth quarter of 1933 that the stock market slumped more than 10% in a quarter yet finished in positive territory. The S&amp;P 500 sank to a loss of 11.3% by mid-February but ended the first quarter with a gain of 0.7%.</span></p><p><strong><a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/saudi-arabia-plans-huge-sovereign-wealth-fund-2016-4?r=UK&amp;IR=T">Saudi Arabia has a plan to end its dependence on oil</a>.</strong> Saudi Arabia is planning to build a $2 trillion sovereign wealth fund, Bloomberg reports. In a five-hour interview, S<span>audi Arabia's deputy crown prince, Mohammed Bin Salman, told Bloomberg the fund would help Saudi Arabia end its dependence on oil. As part of the construction of the fund, Saudi Arabia will IPO no more than a 5% stake in its <span>state-run oil firm Aramco, Bloomberg says. West Texas Intermediate crude oil is down 2.3% at $37.47 a barrel after the news.</span></span></p><p><strong><a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/chinas-manufacturing-sector-bounces-back-2016-3">Chinese manufacturing bounced back</a>. </strong>Data from China's National Bureau of Statistics showed that China's manufacturing sector expanded for the first time in eight months. The 50.2 print for March was an improvement from February's 49.0 and ahead of the 49.3 that economists had forecast. Additionally, the nonmanufacturing reading also saw a gain, ticking up to 53.8 from February's reading of 52.7. The Chinese yuan ended Friday down 0.2% at 6.4639 per dollar.</p><p><strong><a href="http://english.yonhapnews.co.kr/news/2016/04/01/0200000000AEN20160401002252320.html?d005c5a0">South Korean exports fell for a 15th straight month</a>. </strong>South Korean exports, often referred to as "the world's economic canary in the coal mine," because of their exposure to the world's three largest economies, totaled <span>$42.98 billion in March, down</span> 8.2% year-over-year. This marked a 15th straight monthly decline, the largest string of losses in the country's history, according to Yonhap News Agency. The news wasn't all bad, as exports increased 18% from February, and the country's trade surplus expanded to $9.8 billion from $7.4 billion the month earlier. The South Korean won finished weaker by 0.9% at 1,154.03 per dollar.</p><p><strong><a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/japanese-business-sentiment-hasnt-been-this-gloomy-in-years-2016-3">Japan's Tankan surveys disappointed</a>.</strong> The Tankan survey, which measures sentiment levels for large manufacturers, slumped to +6 for the first quarter from its previous look of +12. The number missed the +8 reading that economists were anticipating and was the lowest print since Q2 2013. The future outlook was even more pessimistic, falling to +3 from +7. The Japanese yen is weaker by 0.3% at 112.22.</p><p><strong><a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/here-is-the-tesla-model-3-2016-3">Tesla's Model 3 is here</a>. </strong>Thursday night at its Southern California headquarters, Tesla revealed its long-awaited Model 3. The $35,000 car will be used as a platform for future vehicles, with Tesla CEO Elon Musk suggesting it's <span>"the next logical step of Tesla's secret master plan." Musk said the Model 3 would have more than 200 miles of range, go from zero to 60 in less than six seconds, and be expected to get a five-star rating in every safety category. It's been reported that more than 130,000 preorders have been made. </span></p><p><strong><a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/r-global-smartphone-market-growth-to-be-lowest-ever-in-2016-gartner-2016-3">Global smartphone growth is slowing</a>.</strong> The research firm Gartner says global smartphone sales will grow at a single-digit percentage for the first time on record, Reuters reports. The firm forecasts sales growth of just 7% in 2016 thanks to flat sales in both North America and China. <span>"The double-digit growth era for the global smartphone market has come to an end," research director Ranjit Atwal said in Gartner's Device Findings forecast. Additionally, Gartner expects PC shipments to decline 1.5% this year before growing in 2017.</span></p><p><strong>Stock markets around the globe are mostly lower. </strong>Japan's Nikkei (-3.6%) tumbled overnight, and France's CAC (-1.9%) leads the losses in Europe. S&amp;P 500 futures are down 7.50 points at 2,044.00.</p><p><strong>US economic data is heavy. </strong>After the jobs report, ISM Index, construction spending, and University of Michigan consumer sentiment will all cross the wires at 10 a.m. ET. Auto and truck sales will be released throughout the day.
