Akshat Mittal, a student of standard 9, sold off his website Oddeven.com to carpooling app <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=orahi&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Orahi.com</a>. 
 
Odd-even.com, which was developed in 2015 by 13-year-old Akshat, matches individuals to potential ride-share or <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=carpool&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">carpool</a> in the direction of their commute. 
 
As per the deal, he will be a part of Orahi’s technical advisory board and will be mentored by the company for a year. 
 
"The name is catchy and easy to remember. It currently has 30,000 users and we anticipate more users to register after the second phase of odd-even rule comes into effect on April 15," said Orahi CEO Arun Bhati. 
 
It is noteworthy Orahi recently raised Rs 3.5 crore from a group of investors from the Indian Angel Network (IAN).

In the meantime, Delhiites are facing major inconvenience as <keyword id="6354720" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ola">Ola</keyword> and <keyword id="1042120" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Uber">Uber</keyword> cabs are off roads. 
 
The Sarvodaya Driver Association of Delhi (SDAD) plans to continue the indefinite strike until their demands are addressed by either these two app-based cab aggregators or the Delhi government. 
 
Drivers are agitating against low fares and lack of basic amenities from Ola and the union accused both the companies of making tall promises to drivers - like they would earn as much as Rs. 1.5 lakh every month. 
 
Amid the chaos, Delhiiites preferred other <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=carpooling&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">carpooling cabs</a>, which saw a surge in traffic in last six days.

Orahi COO and Founder Arun Bhati said he was not surprised to see Uber and Ola drivers protesting, adding drivers made good money at the outset when the fleet size was small and the aggregators had the money to burn. 
 
“Of late with the funding dried up and the supply of cabs have increased in huge numbers, drivers' income have gone very low. The recent strike has resulted in 27% increase in traffic on our servers and 32% more people are doing carpool than the usual growth,” said Bhati. 
 Besides, <keyword id="3018623" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Revv">Revv</keyword>, which is a car-sharing platform, witnessed a 40% increase in its bookings. 
 
"Events like the current strike of cab drivers induce more trials, and also serve as a real guidance on the likely future of car-sharing once we cross the awareness barrier. Our demand in Delhi has increased by around 40% on weekdays, likely due to the ongoing strike,” Revv co-founders, Anupam Agarwal and Karan Jain, said. 
 Even <keyword id="2885078" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jugnoo">Jugnoo</keyword>, which is an auto-aggregator, saw an increase in trips per day.

While Samir was pursuing B.Tech in Physics, Chinmay was an Electrical Engineering student there.  Samir was always passionate towards entrepreneurship and wanted to start his own venture. Chinmay seemed to be a perfect partner and they launched together Click Labs in 2011 and eventually moved on to <keyword id="2885078" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Jugnoo">Jugnoo</keyword> in 2014.”

“Coming to the disadvantage, we are almost family, and while working with a family member you can't always be direct with a lot of things. If we disagree on something, we would rather discuss it amongst ourselves first and reach a consensus than putting it out in front of the whole team, so that takes a fair bit of time.”

“Friendship should not be the sole criteria for starting a venture together. You can’t be good co-workers with all your friends. There is a lot of difference between hanging out together and working together under pressure. Thus, your qualities should be complementary to each other, so that both of you add value to make your business, a success.”

In a bid to curb pollution in the city, the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=delhi+government&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Delhi government</a> led by Chief Minister <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=arvind+kejriwal&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Arvind Kejriwal</a> proposed an <keyword id="3163158" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="odd-even-rule">Odd-even rule</keyword> that restricted private vehicles with odd and even registration numbers to run on alternate days of the week. 
 
The first phase of the Odd-even rule came into effect from January 1 and though it reportedly did manage to lessen the levels of pollution in the capital, it also met with complaints from commuters who had to find other means of transport on days they couldn’t take their cars. 
 At that time, help came in the form of a <keyword id="1068586" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Carpooling">carpooling</keyword> website called <keyword id="3177440" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="odd-even-com">Odd-Even.com</keyword> that was founded by <keyword id="3173575" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Akshat-Mittal">Akshat Mittal</keyword>, a student of Amity International School, Noida that met with instant and unprecedented popularity because of its convenience user-friendly interface. 
 
 
Odd-Even.com promoted the concept of carpooling among commuters on a friendly basis and lets users make a commuter preference in terms of gender and age after they have registered on the website with their name, age, mobile number and vehicle’s registration number. One could either choose a one-way travel or a return trip. 
 So when news broke that Mittal had sold off his website to another <keyword id="3318659" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Carpooling-App">carpooling app</keyword>, that too barely 10 days before the implementation of the second phase of the Odd-even formula, everyone was naturally curious to know what really went behind that deal. 
 And, finally two months after the acquisition, <keyword id="3207165" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Orahi">Orahi</keyword>’s COO and Founder, <keyword id="1151710" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Arun-Bhati">Arun Bhati</keyword> tells Business Insider in a freewheeling chat why acquiring Odd-Even.com in April made absolute sense. 
 
For starters, Bhati tells us that they noticed how the traffic to the site during the first phase of Odd-Even rule was unimaginably high and they assumed that a repeat would occur during the second phase of the Odd-Even rule as well because of the absolute popularity the site enjoyed. 
 
“That’s why we set a plan in process to have talks with Mittal and enter into a partnership with him to acquire Odd-Even.com which would in turn be integrated with Orahi. From a business point of view, this was absolutely the right thing to do,” he added. 
 
Secondly, Odd-Even was successful in attracting the right kind of audience to its site, thinks Bhati. 
 
 
“This is the audience that wants to carpool. It was perfect for us. Thus, when we acquired Odd-Even.com, we also got access to the 30,000 users who had registered on the site allowing us to take our total user base upto 70,000 in no time,” he explained, adding that it also allowed Orahi to cater to a larger audience. 
 
Lastly, from the customer point of view, after the acquisition Orahi would’ve now been in a position to allow greater flexibility to users in terms of increased numbers of carpooling options in every direction possible, said Bhati. 
 
As a part of the partnership, Orahi had also inducted Akshat Mittal on the company’s advisory board as a technical and domain expert, in return providing mentorship to the little genius on the carpooling business. 
 
Since April, the Odd-Even website re-directs users to the Orahi interface. A case of total win-win!

Starting January, Delhi government would make sure that both Delhi’s traffic and the polluted air that floats in Delhi are kept under check. It would be done by cutting the number of private cars on its roads by about half, allowing private cars with odd digits as registration numbers on one day and those with even on the next. The Delhi government is also making sure that there are enough buses, autorickshaws and Metro coaches to accommodate the resulting number of people relying on Delhi public transports. 
 On the other hand, the brains behind taxi companies and car aggregators such as <keyword id="1042120" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Uber">Uber</keyword>, <keyword id="6354720" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ola">Ola</keyword> and <keyword id="205081" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Meru">Meru</keyword> Cabs are already planning on steps to take the best advantage of this step taken by the <keyword id="260213" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Arvind-Kejriwal">Arvind Kejriwal</keyword> government. 
 Uber, for example, is planning to launch <keyword id="6591085" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="UberPool">UberPool</keyword>, its car pooling service, in Delhi after a successful run in Bengaluru. While Bangalore UberPool service is only meant for commercial vehicles, the Delhi arm would target the 28 lakh private car owners. 
 
Meru, on the other hand, will be launching a mobile app in January so that passengers can pool cabs online. "The app will identify two people within a radius of two-three km travelling in the same direction and can share their taxi ride," Meru CEO Siddhartha Pahwa told ET. "The driver will pick one person first and within 10 minutes will also pick up the second person." Meru, which is already running many cabs on Delhi roads, is expecting almost 30% rise in the demand for cabs during the trial period. To attract customers, it would offer 35% discount for ride sharing. Even if a passenger can't find someone to share the ride, he or she would still be given the discount. 
 
Ola, the taxi aggregator service, recently launched minibus shuttle services in Gurgaon and Noida, which they plan to extend to Delhi. The taxi-sharing app is being beta-tested in Bengaluru right now, and could very well be rolled out in NCR to make use of the odd-even rule. 
 
Delhi is one of the world's most heavily polluted cities, which is why the government has planned to launch this odd-even scheme. Starting January 1, a 15-day trial period would begin between 8 am and 8 pm, Monday to Saturday. As per the rule, odd-numbered cars would be allowed to run on odd dates and those with even numbers would be allowed on even dates. 
 
Home Minister Rajnath Singh has given his support to this the plan at a recent meeting he had Delhi CM Kejriwal. It means that Delhi Police, which comes under the control of the central government, would be taken on board to ease the application of this rule. 
 
To discuss a carpooling policy, fleet owners and taxi aggregators, including representatives of Pool my Ride, Embarq India, Tripda.in, Carzonrent, Uber, Ola, Shuttl.com, NearGroup.in, Ibibo Ryde, Mega Carpool Pvt., Mega Cabs, LetsDriveAlong.com, BaxiTaxi, Orahi and 
Cykul, had a meeting with the members of the Delhi Dialogue Commission, which serves as the think tank of the Delhi government.
