In a bid to double <keyword id="6354606" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="iPhone">iPhone</keyword> sales in the next three years, <keyword id="6354427" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Apple">Apple</keyword> has signed up a partnership with Delhi-based <keyword id="2733165" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Optiemus-Group">Optiemus Group</keyword>, a leading phone distributor in the country who also sells <keyword id="10591" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Samsung">Samsung</keyword> and HTC smart phones. 
 As per an Economic Times report, Apple is planning to sign some more deals in continuation as Optiemus itself is the fifth distributor after Redington, <keyword id="325300" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ingram-Micro">Ingram Micro</keyword>, Rashi Peripherals and Brightstar. 
 
"Since shipment figures are one of the indicators of success in the smart phone industry, any new distributor Apple appoints will lead to an instant surge in shipments, which will help it to achieve the target fixed by headquarters and will also lead to a significant jump in retail reach," an industry executive told ET. 
 
Apple is aiming for the sales of two million iPhones in India in this (October-September) fiscal year after notching up one million last year. In the seven months ended April 30, the company sold a million iPhones in India. Another executive said Apple India had been under pressure since Samsung has become more aggressive and wants to ensure that volume sales grow at twice the existing pace. 
 
"Apple's distributors are now reaching out to even local consumer electronic dealers and mobile phone stores for stocking iPhones and setting up dedicated space in such stores," he said.

Samsung's renewed vigor stems from the success of its latest flagship Galaxy S6, S6 Edge and Note Edge. 
 
By value, Apple is the number two brand in the overall Indian smart phone market after Samsung. By volume, Apple ranked lower with a share of about 2%, compared with market leader Samsung at 28% followed by Micromax at 15%.

He said that the government is looking to make India a hub of other electronic products as well with the expansion of the PLI scheme to other sectors. "We wanted India to become the second largest mobile manufacturer in the world. Now I am pushing India to surpass China. That's my goal and I am very clearly defining it," Prasad said at the annual general meeting of industry chamber FICCI. India became the second largest mobile manufacturing country in 2017. <keyword id="10428852" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="the-national-policy-on-electronics-2019">The National Policy on Electronics 2019</keyword> (NPE) envisages electronic manufacturing turnover of more than Rs 26 lakh crore by 2025, out of which Rs 13 lakh crore is expected to come from the mobile phone segment. PLI is designed to propel India's stature and ease of doing business under the leadership of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to showcase India as an alternate manufacturing destination, Prasad said. "PLI is designed to enable global champion companies to come to India and make Indian companies national champion," he noted. The government has started a PLI scheme under which eligible companies can get sops of around Rs 48,000 crore. The government has cleared 16 proposals from domestic and international companies entailing investment of Rs 11,000 crore under the PLI scheme to manufacture mobile phones worth Rs 10.5 lakh crore over the next five years. The companies include iPhone maker Apple's contract manufacturers Foxconn Hon Hai, Wistron and Pegatron, apart from Samsung and Rising Star. Domestic companies whose proposals have been approved include Lava, Bhagwati (Micromax), Padget Electronics (Dixon Technologies), UTL Neolyncs and Optiemus. India wants to beat China at mobile manufacturing by expanding PLI schemes to more sectors

<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=nokia&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Nokia</a> and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=blackberry&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">BlackBerry</a> are going to launch new <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=smartphones&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">smartphones</a> next month with an aim to capture a significant share in the Indian market. The phone makers will be raking in Rs 200 crore each in India to make a comeback in the mobilephone market and re-build their strategies. While <keyword id="6354716" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Nokia">Nokia</keyword> will launch upgraded version of its iconic feature phone 3310 by May-end, it is also likely to launch three smartphones. Whereas, <keyword id="6354356" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="BlackBerry">BlackBerry</keyword> brand licence owner in India, Optiemus Group, will launch one model at sub-Rs40,000 category in June and sub-Rs 20,000 category in July. “The BlackBerry brand licence owner in India, Optiemus Group, will spend Rs200 crore to relaunch the brand and will initially target enterprise customers and selling through retail chains before expanding penetration in the market,” chairman Ashok Gupta told ET. He said the company will launch BlackBerry through 4,000 retailers which includes the retail chains and even the premium neighbourhood stores. "We are expecting Rs2,000 crore sales in this fiscal,” he told ET. Re-entering Indian market can be somewhat tough for both the brands as Chinese smartphone makers have made a significant presence in the market. In a bid to win customers, Nokia will market its handsets on the durability factor which was associated with the brand and guaranteed software updates, BlackBerry will build the security buzz of smartphones. A HMD spokesperson told ET that a significant portion of its $500 million marketing spend will be in India.

<keyword id="61562" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="LG-Electronics">LG Electronics</keyword>, the South Korean multinational electronics company, has set up its first manufacturing unit in India, where it would be manufacturing India-specific smartphone models, so that it can benefit from the fast-growing market. 
 
LG has already signed an agreement with GDN Enterprises, which is a part of New Delhi-based Optiemus Group, for manufacturing these models. Trial production has been started with two models, while expansion to include more models is in the pipeline. 
 
Optiemus Group, which already currently manufactures for HTC and Oppo, will be setting up a new plant under a joint venture with Taiwan's leading contract manufacturer Wistron. 
 While giving a boost to the <keyword id="6354869" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="make-in-India">Make In India</keyword> campaign of the Indian government, LG too would get a price edge, given that duties and taxes will come down by more than 10%. The move is also aimed to bring LG back to the <keyword id="1034848" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Indian-smartphone-market">Indian smartphone market</keyword>, a major share of which has been lost. 
 "The business has been a poor performer due to poor product portfolio. We will revamp the portfolio from this month. Our products are superior to competition which we will focus through experiential marketing," <keyword id="188506" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="LG-India">LG India</keyword> managing director Ki Wan Kim said. 
 
For a long time now, LG has been leading the Indian market in refrigerators, washing machines and microwave ovens; it has also branched into flat panel televisions so that it doesn’t only depend on home appliances segment. 
 
Now it looks forward to rebuilding the smartphone business where it had failed to attract much customers despite several attempts. 
"We will pursue to make LG a premium brand in India. The effort is to develop products based on consumer insights. While for existing categories we will focus on energy efficient products, we are also evaluating air and water purifiers as next growth areas," Kim added.
