The Redmi Buds 4 Active are making an entry into a clustered market, where we get new options virtually everyday. While there are dedicated audio brands like Boat, Boult and Mivi dominating this segment, smartphone brands have also marked their presence. From <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/tech/news/oppo-enco-air3-tws-buds-review-looks-good-sounds-better/articleshow/97577176.cms" data-type="tilCustomLink">Oppo Enco Air 3</a> to , <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/tech/news/oneplus-nord-buds-2-review-india-price/articleshow/99242793.cms" data-type="tilCustomLink">Oneplus Nord Buds 2</a> and even the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/tech/gadgets/news/redmi-buds-3-lite-review-decent-audio-quality-choppy-gesture-support/articleshow/93273676.cms" data-type="tilCustomLink">Redmi Buds 3 Lite</a> , this market is booming. At this time, Redmi Buds 4 Active promises a revised audio experience, but does it stand out? And how well does it perform against the Nord Buds 2? I will try to answer this in my review. Price &amp; Availability Redmi Buds 4 Active is priced at ₹1,399 and will be available on the company's website and Amazon India. I tend to shift towards well executed stick designs because my ears are outwards. Hence, no matter what TWS bud I use, it tends to fall off. This is not the case with the Buds 4 Active, since they are able to sit perfectly in my ears. However, if there are excessive moments like workouts, I find myself sticking them back in more often than not. The buds come with three additional pairs of ear tips, adding to the convenience. I have used the default tips though and they have worked well for me. Offering a fairly basic menu of gestures Buds 4 Active are easy to understand. A simple tap means play or pause, a longer tap means accessing voice assistant and a double tap lets you shuffle the playlist. The gestures work well at most times, but I did find them missing out when my fingers were sweaty. Here it’s important to mention the buds are in fact IPX4 sweat and splash resistant. A common but important expectation from a product of this category. Unfortunately, we can’t set custom gestures here, unlike the Nord Buds 2 where we get a dedicated app for customisation. The supported app situation isn’t something to bother about in this area, but it does have certain implications which I will cover in next sections. Moving now to the case, which sports a rather generic design. While purists might not like it, but I believe in - why fix when not broken? Ideology. It’s an ergonomic design, making the case portable and easy to carry around. The case is lightweight, even with the buds, so carrying it in your pocket isn’t a problem. There is a LED indicator at the bottom denoting connectivity, which comes in handy. At the bottom you will find the USB Type-C charging port, which is placed conveniently for access. Connectivity Redmi Buds 4 Active can be connected in multiple ways, of course all are dependent on bluetooth. First the more conventional way, to add the buds in your bluetooth devices on your smartphone. It’s simple: you go to the bluetooth menu and then wait for it to pop up. It works well and shows up quickly. I used this method to connect it with my iPhone and the process was a breeze. Second way is Android only - Fast Pair. It essentially means the buds will pop up on your Android device in close range. I tried it out with Google Pixel 7a and the OnePlus 9RT both worked well. While the process to connect is easy, the buds do miss out on multi-device connectivity. This means you can’t connect the buds simultaneously to say a laptop and your smartphone. This is a major dud for me. By the virtue of being a budget offering I can cut some slack here, but then again I hope someone breaks this barrier. The buds emit a powerful and remarkably clear sound. The audio output possesses a satisfying level of bass, not excessively thumping but substantial enough for you to notice and appreciate. The optimal audio experience is achieved when the volume is set at 70%. At this level, you can discern the vocals and instruments distinctly. However, raising the volume beyond this point results in a noticeable loss of detail and distortion in the audio. The lack of a dedicated customisation app starts bothering here. We do have dedicated hardware to take care of multiple profiles but we don’t have the resources to do it. This is a miss in my opinion. Yes most customers won’t require it, but having an option also helps in developing habits for the end consumer. I was pleasantly surprised by the satisfactory calling experience provided by the buds, which was on par with the Nord Buds. The audio quality was crisp, and the microphone performed flawlessly. However, I must admit that budget TWS buds still fall short in terms of microphone quality compared to high-quality wired earphones, such as my regular wired Apple ear plugs. The buds promise a battery life of 30 hours, with the case. The real time number is around 25 hours depending on the usage. In real terms for a light user, it should last an entire week before you plug it-in. I was using it to attend calls, listen to music and watch content, hence I had to charge it once every 3 days. The buds do support fast charging wherein you can get a 90 minutes of battery in 10 minutes of plugging in. This feature comes in handy more often than not, especially when you are getting late and don’t have time to plug in the buds. Verdict Redmi Buds 4 Active are a decent option in the TWS buds space. The strength of the product lies in solid audio performance, fast pair option and decent battery life. It is what I call a safe product. But if you are more open minded, and don’t mind learning a few new tricks then I suggest checking out OnePlus Nord Buds 2 as well.

This does help distinguish the Nokia earbuds, but there is more to this experience than just the design of the case. The earbuds sport an in-canal design – this helps in offering improved passive noise cancellation, as the design helps in physically blocking out external noise. This is especially useful since the Nokia earbuds do not offer active noise cancellation, unlike the Realme Buds Air 2. Build quality and comfort The Nokia Power Earbuds Lite is lightweight despite the boxy case and the relatively bigger size of the earbuds when compared to some other options like the Galaxy Buds Pro. <div type="image" title="Nokia Power Earbuds Lite buds" msid="81304623" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Nokia Power Earbuds Lite earbud&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div> The Nokia earbuds feel comfortable and light enough, so using them for extended periods of time is not an issue. The earbuds also support basic functionality like play/pause media with a single tap, receiving and ending calls with a double tap, and bringing up Google Assistant with a long press. The case is sturdy and the matte black finish gives it an understated look. I do worry though that it could get spoiled easily, especially if you have sweaty hands or oily skin. Apart from that, though, the case feels well-built and has a satisfying click to it when you open and close it. Performance and call quality Coming to the most important part of the review, the Nokia Power Earbuds Lite gets the job done without any fuss. HMD has not included support for fast pairing, so you have to manually go into the Bluetooth settings on your phone when you pair the earbuds for the first time. A driver converts electrical signals into sound. Simply put, it creates the sound that you hear. The difference is noticeable while listening to music – while the bass and treble are decent, the experience is still inferior when compared to the Realme and OnePlus earbuds. The call quality was decent, although in noisy environments, there was a fair amount of disturbance on the other side of the call. Overall, HMD could have done a better job with these earbuds, especially when there is a lot of competition in this price segment. Battery life The Nokia Power Earbuds Lite promises up to 35 hours of battery life in total – including the charging case. In my experience, I found that these earbuds easily last around 32 hours, with plenty of calls and music throughout. The charging case comes with a USB Type-C port, which is the same port that is used by almost all new smartphones these days. However, even if you don’t have a USB Type-C cable, you don’t have to worry as HMD has bundled one in the box. Verdict The Nokia Power Earbuds Lite has its task cut out. At this price point, the competition offers more features in more compact form factors. While HMD has done a good job with the build quality, these Nokia earbuds miss out on some features like active noise cancellation (ANC), noise cancellation for calls, and fast pairing. The driver is small too, which has a noticeable effect on audio quality. But there’s more to a product than just marketing, more so in a market that is dominated by giants like Apple, Samsung and countless other companies that make audio products for a living. To make a splash, Nothing has gone with an interesting approach – transparent design. Many truly wireless earbuds emulate the AirPods design, while some cut the stem off for a more minimal look. Thanks to fast charging support, a 10-minute charge can get you up to 1.2 hours of playback time on the earbuds, while the case gets you an additional 8 hours. Wrapping of the specs sheet is IPX4 rating, meaning the Nothing ear (1) is sweat and splash resistant. Nothing also has the ear (1) app for both iOS and Android that allows you to tune some additional options if you want to. Most smartphones and laptops – much bigger devices than earbuds – are not well-designed on the inside. That makes the ear (1)’s transparent and clean design all the more impressive. Another aspect that works in ear (1)’s favour is the fact that most truly wireless earbuds in this price range either look the same or they’re boring. Any and every originality, in this scenario, is welcome and a breath of fresh air. Lastly, the ear (1)’s case supports wireless charging, which is an added bonus. It also has a USB Type-C port, which is compatible with most smartphone charging cables launched in the recent past. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Clean, balanced sound with ANC support" comment="subhead" text="Clean, balanced sound with ANC support">Clean, balanced sound with ANC support</cmsannotation> I have been using the Nothing ear (1) as my primary audio device for the past few days, for both voice calls as well as music. <div type="image" title="Nothing ear 1 - both" msid="84859565" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Nothing ear (1&amp;lt;span class=&amp;quot;redactor-invisible-space&amp;quot;&amp;gt;)&amp;lt;/span&amp;gt;&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div> While it’s not enough time to pass the final judgement on the audio quality and overall performance, I found the audio to be well balanced, with well-defined highs and lows. I used the ear (1) earbuds with the OnePlus 9 Pro for the most part, and compared it with the Galaxy Buds Plus. I played several tracks, including Gotye’s State Of The Art - the highs and lows were very well balanced, with clear and crisp vocals. For a change of pace, I tried Lorde’s Royals. The voice was well distinguished, and the bass and treble were well balanced, too. To mix it up a bit, I played Imagine Dragons’ Demons, and the ear (1) did not miss a beat. The bass was deep and the vocals were well-distinguished. <div type="image" title="Nothing ear (1) app" msid="84859589" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;The ear (1) app lets you manage equalizer and gestures&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div> The default ‘Balanced’ equalizer sounded the best. If you prefer bass or treble, you can toggle the equalizer in the app. Additionally, there’s a ‘Voice’ option that sounds a lot different and is geared towards voice calling over music. Active noise cancellation works well, but that will result in a battery hit. It is useful in weeding out major noise from vehicles or people talking, but I found some of it still managing to pass through the earbuds. But overall, it worked well. So far, I have used the ear (1) for voice calls and music, spanning over four days. The charge level in the case has dropped to 70%, and this is after one firmware update. My friends reported noticeable disturbance in calls when I was out and about. Nothing says it uses Clear Voice Technology with algorithms to isolate and amplify your voice during calls, but there’s enough room for improvement in this regard. I also faced minor connectivity hiccups, wherein the ear (1) wouldn’t connect automatically, requiring me to manually connect them by going into my phone’s settings. This happened sporadically, and Nothing has released an update to address this. While this isn’t a bad thing usually, the fact that the G60 is a chunky, heavy phone is not something that can be ignored. With 225 grams weight, 9.8mm thickness and a massive 6.8-inch display, single-handed usage is tough. <div type="image" title="Moto G60 side" msid="83366668" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;The Moto G60 from the side&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div> Some of the blame for the phone’s thickness and weight can be assigned to the massive 6,000mAh battery, but there are other phones with bigger batteries that weigh less and are slimmer. For instance, the Galaxy F62 has a 7,000mAh battery that weighs 218 grams. <div type="image" title="Moto G60 back" msid="83366649" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Moto G60 back panel&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div> Despite being a plastic phone, the Moto G60 looks and feels well made. The back of the phone is glossy and a fingerprint magnet, but it feels good to hold. The camera module does feel a little hastily designed, though. You can also enable up to six different gestures to quickly access the camera, turn on the flashlight, unlock the phone and more. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Performance and battery life" comment="subhead" text="Performance and battery life">Performance and battery life</cmsannotation> The Moto G60 is equipped with the Snapdragon 732G chipset coupled with 6GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage. In our usage, we found the Moto G60 to be adequately fast and smooth for daily tasks such as browsing, using social media and clicking pictures. We found that the Snapdragon 732G chipset is moderately powerful and offers good performance for the price. While the normal usage is smooth, we did notice some stuttering while playing heavy games such as Call of Duty: Mobile and Asphalt 9. The device is powered by a 6,000mAh battery and comes with 20W fast charging support. As the device offers only 20W fast charging and comes with a huge battery, it takes over 2 hours and 20 minutes to fully charge the device. It offers more than a day’s usage with moderate gaming, streaming, messaging and calls. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Camera" comment="subhead" text="Camera">Camera</cmsannotation> The Moto G60 is one of the few budget smartphones out there with a 108MP camera. It’s a great number when it comes to marketing, but numbers alone can be misleading. <div type="image" title="Moto G60 camera" msid="83366681" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Moto G60 rear camera&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div> What’s important in a camera is the amount of data it captures and how it processes it to deliver crisp details, minimum noise and accurate colour reproduction alongside other factors. <div type="image" title="IMG_20210525_121137087_HDR" msid="83366710" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Image captured in day light conditions&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div> The Moto G60, in most cases, performs adequately well when it comes to daylight photos. There’s some room for improvement, especially when it comes to colour accuracy and details. <div type="image" title="IMG_20210525_121158548_HDR" msid="83366728" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Image captured in wide-angle mode&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div> However, that said, there is a noticeable improvement in the way Motorola handles images now when compared to previously launched Moto smartphones. If you’re just looking to share photos on social media or amongst your family and friends on WhatsApp, the Moto G60 does well enough. But if you’re a pixel-peeper, you might end up noticing the less-than-stellar details and colour reproduction. Photos captured in low light conditions at night were average and we found the color tone to be slightly off in these images. The selfie camera is decent and produces good images with accurate colors in daylight conditions. Selfies captured at night are not as accurate and there is some room for improvement. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Verdict" comment="subhead" text="Verdict">Verdict</cmsannotation> With the Moto G60, Motorola has tried to strike a good balance between price, performance and to some extent, the design. It has to fend off tough rivals like the Realme 8 Pro and the Redmi Note 10 Pro Max, and at a slightly higher price, the Mi 10i. The only concern in my usage was the camera experience – Motorola has improved the image quality compared to previous Moto G-series smartphones, but it still has some way to go. It feels lightweight in the hands weighing just 173g, however, the Mi 11X Lite only weighs 159g. The rear camera bump is protruding off the body and is placed on the left side of the back. It houses a triple camera setup, unlike its predecessor which has a quad-camera set-up. On the front, we have the 32 MP front camera that is accommodated in a punch-hole type cut out at the top of the display. The bezels around the display are fairly thin. On the right side, we have the volume buttons at the top and the power button just below it. This makes you take screenshots using two hands since you have to click the volume down and power button simultaneously and both are on the same side. The power button also houses the fingerprint scanner which is very snappy. The phone also has a face-recognition sensor, but it isn’t as responsive as the fingerprint scanner. <div type="image" title="Volume Rocker" msid="86866857" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;The volume buttons and the power button are on the right side.&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div>On the left side we have the SIM tray that has a hybrid design meaning you can either have two SIM cards or one SIM and one MicroSD card for additional storage. The audio isn’t very loud from the speakers that do not offer stereo support and you will need headphones or speakers to enjoy content, which is anyway recommended if you want the best experience. While I have moved on to wireless headphones, I still like using my wired earphones when the other ones are charging. And not being able to connect them to this Galaxy M52 device is annoying at times. Interestingly, its predecessor, the Galaxy M51, did feature the 3.5mm audio jack. Again, it might not be an issue for many users, but if for you it is, then you can look at Realme X7 Max 5G in the same price range. Overall, the phone feels good in the hands and single-handle operation is comfortable. The phone is sleek and is lightweight, but the back does catch fingerprints and using a back cover is recommended. Design-wise, the only negatives would be its audio features; lack of 3.5mm jack and poor sound quality from the speakers. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Display" comment="subhead" text="Display">Display</cmsannotation> The display is one of its superior features. It is equipped with a 6.7-inch FHD+ sAMOLED+ Infinity-O display that comes with a <keyword id="8793349" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="120hz-refresh-rate" source="Orion">120Hz refresh rate</keyword>. The refresh rate can be set to standard 60Hz by going to Settings &gt; Display and tapping motion smoothness. With 120Hz refresh rate, it offers smooth scrolling and transitions. The AMOLED display supports up to 1080 x 2400 (FHD+) resolution and delivers beautiful vivid picture quality by default. You get deeper blacks and high contrast, making the pictures look lively, and it can be adjusted by tweaking the screen mode to “Vivid” from “Natural” in Settings. <div type="image" title="Display Image" msid="86866947" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;The AMOLED display supports up to 120Hz refresh rate. &amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div>Reading e-books and viewing your favourite video content should be pleasing on this display. I am having a good time with this phone’s display as I can catch the daily news with the Eye comfort shield that filters the blue light and reduces strain on eyes. Watching videos on YouTube and OTT platforms is truly an amazing experience given the picture clarity and sharpness. Even while playing games, the display offers clarity and with its 120Hz refresh rate the experience is quite smooth. It was easy to spot opponents in battle royale games and first person shooter games in general. The picture quality and the clarity of the display delivers an enjoyable gaming experience. The Galaxy M52 5G’s has Gorilla Glass 5 protection on the display that should offer some amount of protection from scratches and accidental drops. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Performance" comment="subhead" text="Performance">Performance</cmsannotation> The Galaxy M52 5G is powered by a competent mid-range processor, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G chipset. It offers consistent performance across the system and applications. The apps load in no time, and I did not experience any lag while switching between them or searching for them. I found the performance of the phone to be exceptionally good while gaming or streaming content from OTT platforms. <div type="image" title="Back" msid="86867052" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;The phone is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G chipset.&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div>I encountered an issue where the M52 did struggle a bit. While all the devices in my room had no issues connecting to my 5GHz WiFi connection, the M52 did show sign of poor connectivity, which was due to the range as it improved as I moved closer to the router. Samsung and other smartphone makers are now providing 5G support to mid-range and budget smartphones, and with this Galaxy M52, you get support for 11 bands of 5G. However, 5G is yet to roll out in India and you will not be able to use this feature any time soon in the country. The 5G support makes it future proof and also allows you to use the feature when you travel to a country that supports the 5G network. Gaming I tried games like Asphalt 9 and Battlegrounds Mobile India, and the performance of the phone was quite incredible. Both the fast chipset and good quality display combine to offer crisp and vibrant graphics that help in gaming. There was no lag or frame drop instance while playing any of these highly demanding games. It did get warm but I did not experience abnormal heating after playing for 45 minutes to an hour. It may heat up if played for longer but I cannot be certain since I did not test it yet. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Battery" comment="subhead" text="Battery">Battery</cmsannotation> There is a significant drop in battery capacity from its predecessor. The Galaxy M51 was equipped with a gigantic 7,000mAh battery while this Galaxy M52 comes with a 5,000mAh battery, which is still massive. However, this is quite impressive for this device since its thickness is claimed to be reduced by 21%. In terms of performance, the battery life is impressive as it gave me over 9 hours of screen time with mixed usage including light gaming, streaming and web-browsing. The phone comes with a 15W charger in the box, which takes about two hours to recharge the battery fully from under 10% charge. Nevertheless, the phone is compatible with a 25W Samsung charger that should improve the charging time significantly. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Camera" comment="subhead" text="Camera">Camera</cmsannotation> Interestingly, Samsung has reduced the number of camera sensors on this Galaxy M52 compared to its predecessor. The rear camera module features a 64MP primary sensor, 12MP ultra-wide lens and a 5MP Macro sensor. The 5MP depth sensor that was available on its predecessor, Galaxy M51, is missing on this device. <div type="image" title="Rear Camera" msid="86867077" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;The rear camera module features a 64MP primary sensor, 12MP ultra-wide lens and a 5MP Macro sensor. &amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div>The camera offers fairly accurate daylight performance with the primary sensor. The pictures have high dynamic range, sharp focus and clarity. The ultra-wide lens also captures a large field of view and delivers decent performance during the day. The phone doesn’t come with optical image stabilisation and the output can come out shaking at times if the phone is not held stably. For better results., using a tripod while shooting videos is recommended. The colour reproduction during the day was very accurate, while at night, the colours were faded, which is a common issue in smartphone cameras. <div type="image" title="Wide Angle Night mode" msid="86867189" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Ultra-wide in Night mode&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div>You can shoot videos with the front camera in the same resolutions and frame rates as that with the rear camera. I shot videos in 4K 30fps mode, and the footage captured details however the output becomes grainy when you zoom in. I did not face any glitches while video calling using the front camera. <div type="image" title="Macro Mode" msid="86867213" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Image taken in Macro mode &amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div>As for the modes, the camera has a Photo mode where you can use the primary sensor to click images without zooming in or adjusting to a large field of view. Using the same mode, you click images with an ultra-wide sensor and digitally zoom up to 10x. Then we have the video mode to record footage. There is a Single Take mode that can capture a moment in various ways including, a panoramic view, regular view and a video. The Fun mode is integrated with Snapchat filters and allows you to click images with funny backgrounds and virtual props. To explore other modes, you will have to click on More, where you can access Pro Mode, to set the auto-focus, white balance, ISO, aperture and other settings to click pictures like a professional. Other modes here include macro, portrait, hyperlapse, slow motion video and panorama. The camera app is very responsive when you open it. Switch between modes is also smooth and the camera loading time after clicking an image or recording a video is remarkably low. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Software" comment="subhead" text="Software">Software</cmsannotation> The Galaxy M52 5G comes with Samsung One UI 3.1 running on Android 11. The UI is very clean and offers plenty of customisation options. You can choose from plenty of widgets that can be added to your home screen. There are plenty of themes and wallpapers options that users can use to personalise the phone. Users can also change the layout of how apps will appear and how many apps will appear in each line. The phone comes with pre-installed applications that are both native and third-party apps like Moj, Daily Hunt, Byjus, Josh, Amazon and others. While you can delete most unwanted applications, you will not be able to delete system apps like the Clock, Calculator, Gallery and others that are needed for the smooth functioning of its software. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Verdict" comment="subhead" text="Verdict">Verdict</cmsannotation> The Samsung Galaxy M52 5G has seen a major upgrade from its predecessor. The display, performance and camera are all above-average. The phone does lack some places such as the missing 3.5mm jack, no stereo speakers for audio and mediocre macro lens. Most of these are not a deal breaker for many. So overall it's a fairly good deal for the price and it gets better if you can get it during a sale. However, you should note that there are plenty of other options from its competitors, such as the OnePlus Nord 2 , Mi 11X and Realme X7 Max . While the OnePlus Nord 2 and the Realme X7 Max have the MediaTek Dimensity 1200 chipset, the Mi 11X has the Snapdragon 870 which are slightly more efficient than the Snapdragon 778G chipset used in the Galaxy M52, the battery life is better on M52, it's the lightest among its competitors and also offers same, if not better, camera performance than its competitors.
