The company's PAT (profit after tax) stood at Rs 930 crore. Notably, without this windfall gain, Paytm's finances would still be in red, with the company racking up losses worth Rs 415 crore. Paytm was in red in the year-ago period as well, incurring losses worth Rs 290.5 crore. This windfall profit also improved Paytm's EBITDA by Rs 388 crore on a QoQ basis. The company's revenue also saw a slight uptick of 10.5% quarterly to Rs 1,659 crore, as opposed to Rs 1,501 crore in the previous quarter. But on a year-on-year basis, Paytm's revenue dipped significantly by 34%. The company also announced that it has entered into a DLG (<keyword id="23641220" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Default-Loss-Guarantee" source="keywords">default loss guarantee</keyword>) model for its merchant loans of about Rs 225 crore with SMFG India Credit. Under this arrangement, Paytm will be first in line to take a hit in case of a loss that emerges from borrowers defaulting or skipping their payments. "Following the regulatory framework and the emerging market practice, we see increased willingness from lenders to partner and allocate more capital in the default loss. The DLG model will help to increase disbursements with the existing partners and expand partnerships with new lenders for the loan distribution,” said the company in its earnings release today. The company's revenue from its payment business also inched up 9% on a quarterly basis, along with its revenue from <keyword id="19976433" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="financial-services" source="keywords">financial services</keyword>, which also grew by 34% QoQ. At present, Paytm's total merchant subscriptions stand at 1.12 crore, with the company garnering 3 lakh new merchants during the quarter. During the previous quarter, Paytm's <keyword id="20253122" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="gross-merchandise-value" source="keywords">gross merchandise value</keyword> (GMV) also inched up by 5% on a sequential basis, which experts anticipate will continue in the coming quarters, just as India braces for the festive season. Per its release, Paytm aims to achieve <keyword id="23641219" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="EBITDA-profitability" source="keywords">EBITDA profitability</keyword> (before ESOPs) by the fourth quarter of this financial year. However, investors remained unimpressed with Paytm's performance, with its share slipping by around 3.96% during the day to trade at Rs 697.20. This move is seen as a relief for the company, which has been under scrutiny following the RBI’s intervention in January. The NPCI, which had previously allowed Paytm to operate as a Third-Party Application Provider (TPAP) for UPI transactions, has now reinstated its ability to bring new users onto the platform, albeit with strict conditions. Paytm can continue UPI operations through its partnerships with major banking institutions, including SBI, HDFC Bank, Axis Bank, and YES Bank. In response to a query from stock exchanges, Paytm said the notice is not a new development, and it is in regulatory contact with the market regulator to make required representations. According to Paytm's financial year 2024 annual result filing, it had issued 2.1 crore employee stock options (ESOP) to Sharma in the financial year 2022. SEBI had issued a show cause notice to Paytm on ESOP issued to Sharma. "This is not a new development, as the Company had already made relevant disclosures on this matter in its financial results for the quarter and year ended March 31, 2024, as well as the quarter ended June 30, 2024. The Company is in regular communication with the <keyword id="19970553" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="securities-exchange-board-of-india" source="keywords">Securities Exchange Board of India</keyword> (SEBI) and making necessary representations regarding this matter," Paytm said in response to a stock exchange query. The disclosure made on May 22 and July 19 said that Paytm has submitted its preliminary response and is in the process of seeking further information from the regulator in this regard. "Based on an independent legal opinion obtained by the management, it believes that the Company is compliant with the relevant regulations. Accordingly, there is no impact on the financial results for the year ended March 31, 2024," the filing said. Shares of One97 Communications Ltd, which owns the Paytm brand, on Monday dropped over 4% amid reports that SEBI has issued show-cause notices to Vijay Shekhar Sharma and board members who served during its IPO in November 2021 for alleged misrepresentation of facts. The stock tanked 4.41 % to settle at Rs 530.05 apiece on the BSE. During the day, it plunged 8.88 % to Rs 505.25. On the NSE, shares of the firm dropped 4.47 % to Rs 530. Intra-day, the stock tumbled 8.88 % to Rs 505.55. The company's market valuation declined by Rs 1,534.23 crore to Rs 33,731.56 crore. Earlier in the day, BSE sought clarification from One 97 Communications Ltd with reference to news that Vijay Shekhar Sharma, Paytm directors face SEBI show-cause notices over initial public offering (IPO) breaches, particularly on ESOPs allotted to MD and CEO Vijay Shekhar Sharma. Shortly after this, there were reports of tickets being bought and sold in black, for much higher prices. Social media was then rife with discussions about scalpers, and how they are hoarding tickets to sell them at higher prices. Now, BookMyShow has filed an FIR for black marketing of Coldplay's tickets. According to an ANI report, the company has taken legal action against unknown scalpers involved in the reselling of tickets for Coldplay's "<keyword id="23232180" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Music-Of-The-Spheres-World-Tour" source="keywords">Music Of The Spheres World Tour</keyword> " in India. The online ticket platform filed an FIR with the <keyword id="19906039" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mumbai-Police" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Mumbai Police" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Mumbai Police">Mumbai Police</keyword> on October 2, accusing scalpers of black market activity surrounding tickets for the band's highly anticipated shows in January 2025 at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. The FIR was registered at Vile Parle Police Station, with the Mumbai Police charging the accused under sections 318(4) and 319(2) of the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), as well as section 66(C) of the Information Technology Act. Investigations are currently underway to identify those involved in the unauthorised resale of concert tickets. The issue arose when BookMyShow, which opened ticket sales for the concert on September 22, received emails from two people who claimed to have secured tickets for others in exchange for money. Several WhatsApp messages were also sent to BookMyShow requesting additional tickets, which the platform ignored. BookMyShow had clearly warned buyers against purchasing tickets from third-party sources, yet scalping activities persisted. In response to these concerns, the ticketing company lodged a complaint with the police on September 23, well before the formal FIR was filed. BookMyShow's spokesperson said the company remains committed to combating ticket reselling and is cooperating with the authorities to investigate all instances of illegal sales, including those on social media platforms such as Instagram and WhatsApp, as well as digital reselling platforms like Viagogo and Stubhub. "In its ongoing fight against <keyword id="23311384" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ticket-scalping" source="keywords">ticket scalping</keyword> and black marketing of tickets for Coldplay's Music Of The Spheres World Tour 2025 in India, BookMyShow has lodged a formal FIR (First Information Report) on October 2, 2024. This action follows our initial complaint filed proactively with the Mumbai Police on September 23, 2024, addressing these concerns much before any formal complaint was raised against us. BookMyShow's FIR filed with the Mumbai police also urges authorities to investigate the unauthorised resale of tickets by individuals and platforms. "We have provided details of all resellers that have come to our attention, including independent individuals reselling tickets for this tour across social media platforms such as Instagram, WhatsApp and beyond, as also digital platforms such as Viagogo, Stubhub Holdings and more, to aid authorities in a thorough investigation," a statement from the company read. The platform is also reportedly considering cancelling tickets that have been sold through unauthorised channels and reiterated its strong opposition to illegal ticket resale. "Our stance remains clear and unchanged - BookMyShow vehemently condemns and opposes ticket reselling which is deemed illegal and is punishable by law in India. BookMyShow has no association with any such unauthorised ticket selling/reselling platforms and/or any third party individuals/platforms for the purpose of reselling Coldplay's Music Of The Spheres World Tour 2025 in India," a company spokesperson said as per ANI. BookMyShow had also posted a statement on Instagram last month, saying that scalping of tickets is punishable by law in India and that people should stay safe from scammers. "Scalping is strictly condemned and punishable by law in India. We have filed a complaint with the police authorities and will provide complete support to them in investigation of this matter. We urge you not to fall victim to these scams. Any tickets bought from unauthorised sources will be at risk of consumer and can turn out to be fake tickets. Beware of such scammers," the statement had read. Coldplay is set to perform three shows in Navi Mumbai on January 18, 19, and 20, 2025, as part of their world tour.

In this test, the capsule was successfully levitated and propelled inside a 420-metre-long tube using magnetic fields and a depressurised environment. The vehicle reached a modest speed of about 30 kmph in this initial test over 100 metres, while the goal is to eventually achieve speeds of 700 kmph. "The most difficult things that we are doing now is to test all of these functions together. Levitation, propulsion, guidance, all of those functions we are now capable of executing as an orchestra, making them work together," explains Roel van de Pas, commercial director of Hardt Hyperloop. Several countries beyond China are also advancing hyperloop research. The pod even had two daring passengers — Virgin Hyperloop’s co-founder Josh Giegel and Head of Passenger Experience Sara Luchian. Unfortunately, the company has now shut down, despite being one of the most promising and well-funded hyperloop startups since the introduction of the concept. However, if you’re waiting for the futuristic tech to arrive in India, you’re going to have to wait quite a while longer. Expressing a cautious stance on hyperloop development, NITI Aayog member V. K. Saraswat explained that India is unlikely to see hyperloop trains anytime soon due to the high infrastructure costs and uncertain feasibility for mass transport applications. As per Saraswat, the tech is still at a “low level of maturity”. While the hyperloop has long been touted as a revolutionary transit system, its path to reality has been slow and uncertain. At the NSE, it surged 4.98 per cent to Rs 564.80. "With this approval in place, PPSL will proceed to resubmit its PA application. In the meantime, PPSL will continue to provide online payment aggregation services to existing partners," Paytm filing said. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) had rejected Paytm's PA licence permit application in November 2022 and instructed the company to reapply with Press Note 3 compliance under the foreign direct investment norms. The <keyword id="22186137" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="US-transport-security-body" source="keywords">US transport security body</keyword> has sought a unique "one-stop agreement" with <keyword id="19895063" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="India" source="keywords">India</keyword> to end the rescreening of <keyword id="19915258" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="passengers" source="keywords">passengers</keyword>, asserting that the "really powerful" concept will raise global <keyword id="20051539" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="aviation" source="keywords">aviation</keyword> <keyword id="19900703" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="security" source="keywords">security</keyword> standards. Addressing the India US Aviation Summit here on Tuesday, David Pekoske, Administrator of the US Transportation Security Administration (USTSA) said that the one-stop security concept is "very reachable" between the countries. "I think very tangible and very reachable between India and the United States is one-stop security," he said. "It's a concept that expedites the flow of passengers and baggage to their destinations by eliminating the duplication of security controls at transfer points," Pekoske said. He said in the case of a one-stop agreement, passengers who reach an airport in another country and have a connecting domestic flight would not need to be rescreened and their checked bags would go from aircraft to aircraft. Terming it a "really powerful" concept, Pekoske said it raises global aviation security standards. "Flights inbound to the United States are more secure. If there's a reverse agreement between the United States and India where US screening satisfies Indian requirements, that means that flights to India would also be more secure. It does require the regular exchange of information," he said. "It requires improvements to security processes to maintain the agreement. It yields a reduction in security costs through better allocation of resources, reduces flight connection times and missed connections, and improves the passenger experience," he said. Pekoske said the two countries should consider signing a memorandum of agreement to share sensitive security information. "We have a category of classification of information that is not classified in the true sense of classified material, but it is sensitive enough that it needs additional protections," he said. He said that whenever there is a sharing of sensitive security information -- which is critical to a growing partnership -- there is a need to have a memorandum of agreement which covers the aspects of that sharing arrangement. He noted that both the TSA and India's transportation security posture were born of cruel tragedy. For India, it was the bombing of Air India 'Kanishka' Flight 182 in 1985, while for the TSA, it was the 9-11 attacks in 2001. "These tragic events were paradigm shifts in how we both thought about transportation security that continues today," he said. Meanwhile, addressing the summit, US Federal Aviation Administrator Michael Whitaker said that India and the United States need to work together on issues like aviation safety. Asserting that safety is a team sport, he said that sharing data between the two countries can allow better identification and mitigation of risks in the sector. "Our (US and India's) national systems of aviation are inextricably linked into a single global network," he said, adding that the two counties have adjoining air spaces, integrated supply chains, and international services that connect their economies and people. "We need to work together on issues like safety, we need to share ideas and share innovations, especially in how to safely incorporate some of these new technologies into our airspace," he said. Noting that the two countries have different systems that will take different approaches to solving challenges, he said, "We can and should work together to share best practices and learn from one another." "We all have an interest in increasing safety within our respective countries, but we must work together to increase the level of safety in the global aviation system," he added. "This means sharing data. Sharing information allows us to better identify and mitigate risks before those risks become accidents and even before they become failures to the safety layers in our system," he added. "When I started in aviation, accidents were unfortunately not uncommon. They were almost annual events, and safety regulators learned from those accidents and made the system safer," he said. "For the past couple of decades, we've moved beyond that model, and accidents are now extremely rare, and they are simply unacceptable as an outcome," Whitaker said. "Our challenge is to bring safety to the next level, and that means we need to proactively analyse data and find those risks of failure and mitigate those risks before they happen," he said. Asserting that all the job categories in the aviation sector are highly sought after, he said that "for regulators, it means new questions about how we oversee those operations". "We have to find a safe yet nimble way to regulate these new entrants who are operating at the speed of a startup while we are operating at the speed of government, he said. He added that there is a need to figure out how to close the gap, identify these risks and leverage technology to incorporate them safely into the airspace. "In the US, we've seen the public perception of safety and risk in the system evolve over time. As more people have access to aviation, the expectation grows that the system will be completely safe," he asserted.
