MapMyIndia has claimed that Ola Electric has breached its license agreement. The company has said that the agreement signed between the two companies prohibits co-mingling and reverse engineering under the Intellectual Property laws. “By indulging in such unscrupulous and illegal activities, you have acted in blatant defiance of the terms and conditions of the agreement and have further infringed the copyright vested exclusively in our client pertaining to the source code,” the notice reads. Ola Electric in a statement to Business Insider India has denied the allegations. “Ola Electric wishes to address the recent claims made by CE Info Systems Limited (“CE Info”) in relation to the alleged issues with Ola Maps vis-à-vis MapMyIndia and reported in news media. We would like to state unequivocally that these allegations are false, malicious and misleading. Ola Electric stands by the integrity of its business practices. We will suitably respond to the notice shortly," an Ola Electric spokesperson said in a statement to Business Insider India. Flipkart is trying to Solve Bengaluru’s Traffic Woes Through a Hackathon

Before Elon Musk-led Tesla finally makes its India entry, ride-hailing platform Ola on Monday announced world's largest two-wheeler manufacturing facility called Ola FutureFactory that will have annual production capacity of one crore vehicles and will be operational by 2022. The factory will generate 10,000 direct employment, along with additional jobs being created by Ola vendors and suppliers. According to <keyword id="1543567" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bhavish-Aggarwal">Bhavish Aggarwal</keyword>, Chairman and Group CEO, the Phase 1 will be ready with initial annual capacity of two million around June this year. Built over 500 acres in Krishnagiri district in Tamil Nadu, the facility will roll out one scooter every two seconds at full capacity, Aggarwal told mediapersons. "It will have 10 production lines running at full capacity. It will be the most advanced two-wheeler factory with 3,000 AI-powered robots built on Industry 4.0 principles," he said. Bhavish Aggarwal-led Ola showcases its first electric scooter — aims to operate 1 crore bikes by 2022

New Delhi, Feb 10 () Ride-hailing major Ola expects London to play an important role in its global road map, and believes that entry into this market is the beginning of its "journey to be the preeminent global force". The company, which has launched its services in London, has already onboarded over 25,000 drivers on its platform. "London is truly the beginning of our journey to be the preeminent global force and player in our industry. Very few Indian brands have gone global with this scale and ambition and our journey and success will become a benchmark," Ola co-founder and CEO Bhavish Aggarwal said in an e-mail to employees. He added that the next three months are "crucial to scale operations, be nimble on our feet to counter competition moves and above all, deliver a differentiated customer experience to 'wow' the consumers". He said the company will maintain its differentiated focus on drivers, safety and a collaborative approach with local authorities and regulators. Aggarwal said London is one of the most important global cities in general, and is one of the biggest markets in size for the industry. Ola had received an operating licence from Transport for London (TfL) earlier last year. "So, building the right business for all stakeholders...has been a key focus for us... We have been able to focus on consumer and driver experience significant and improving the quality and proposition of safety and truly moving the industry forward," he said. The Bengaluru-based firm had entered the UK with operations starting in Cardiff in August last year. It has expanded across Birmingham, Liverpool, Exeter, Reading, Bristol, Bath, Coventry, and Warwick in the UK. Ola bets on London to become preeminent global force

A month back, <keyword id="3010687" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sudarshan-Gangrade">Sudarshan Gangrade</keyword> was heading marketing operations at Ola as Vice President. Gangrade wanted to take a break and quit his job. 
 
One month after, Gangrade and his team built an app-Road MApp- for the betterment of the society, and their mission is to bring about a positive impact and affect lives of people. 
 
“I was on a break and one day I was talking to my friends and then it struck me if could have an app that assess the quality of the roads,” said Gangrade. 
 
What is the app, how does it work? 
 
Road MApp assesses the quality of roads using the sensors in your smartphones. The app is developed by Ph.D holders and uses sophisticated algorithms and accelerometers to measure the quality of roads. A team at Bengaluru-based startup- Lightmetrics, which is into imaging technology- helped Gangrade in developing this app. 
 
“You can download app on Android smartphones and once launched, it automatically knows you are on the road. The sensors assess the vibrations as you drive on good or bad stretches, records the location and a Google Maps-type image is generated that shows the quality of the road,” said Gangrade. 
 
Road MApp grades at 7 levels how good or bad are the roads -Green means the roads are better and red means you have landed in a pothole. 
 
How accurate is the app? 
 
The beta testing of this Bengaluru-based Road MApp is over and the app has been tested on Bengaluru roads. 
 
“It may not be 100 per cent accurate and we will fine tune it over a period of time but after field testing, we can say that the app is fairly accurate and is reliable,” said Gangrade. 
 
For the government 
 
The main aim of Road MApp is to collect data and hand it over to the government so that they have the real time data of roads to repair it. 
 
“Road MApp is not for academic purposes. There have been lot of consumer campaigns about bad roads and I wanted to help the society at large. We are yet to speak with the government but once we have huge data, we will share it with them and we are confident, they will look at it in an electronic way and use it for repairs,” said Gangrade. 
 
Future plans 
 
Gangrade said the app was developed purely for social cause. In future, Gangrade plans to improve public delivery of services. 
 
“The smartphone is a powerful tool and in future the app can be future developed and used in identifying accident-prone areas, blind spots in real time,” said Gangrade. 
 
Saddest roads in Bengaluru 
 
Since this app has been tested only in Bengaluru, Gangrade said Sarjapura and Bellandur really have bad roads.

Gangrade has worked on the Aadhar project with Nilekani, who is also an inspiration to him. 
 
“I am inspired by Nilekani’s idea of using technology to improve public delivery of services. My belief is that the government is open to using tools to help improve its efficiency,” said Gangrade. 
 
“Technology will create an impact on the society,” Nilekani told Gangrade, who took his words seriously.

New Delhi, Apr 13 () Ride-hailing major Ola on Monday said it has partnered with Haryana government to launch 'Ola Emergency' on its app in Gurugram to enable essential medical trips.The launch in Gurugram comes closely after Bengaluru, Vizag, Bhubaneshwar, Nashik and Varanasi. The company plans to expand the service to other major cities soon. The service allows riders to book non-COVID-19 medical trips, which do not require ambulance.With the implementation of the lockdown across the country to contain the spread of COVID-19, the government has allowed only people in essential services like healthcare, banking and media to commute."Ola Emergency is available in Gurugram starting today with a dedicated network of cars that are equipped with masks and sanitizers and will be operated by specially trained drivers. Over 100 hospitals have been mapped on to the app to provide the service to ensure that trips are made from homes to hospitals and vice-versa," Ola said in a statement.To book an 'Ola Emergency' cab, users can select the 'Ola Emergency' category and enter the drop location from a list of available hospitals in the city."Trips to hospitals for medical urgencies are unavoidable, even in the current times. With Ola Emergency, we are able to facilitate trips to and from hospitals across the city through the Ola app," an Ola spokesperson said.The service will be available 24x7 and will provide citizens with a reliable, convenient and safe transport solution for medical trips that do not require an ambulance, the spokesperson added.Ola said it is facilitating a clean and safe ride experience by ensuring that all registered driver-partners on the network are trained to follow proper sanitary measures, including wearing masks and frequent usage of hand sanitizers that cars have been equipped with."We will continue to work closely with various state governments to ensure that people across cities can avail this service to access essential medical care," the spokesperson said.Customers will be charged a nominal fare according to the rate card to compensate driver-partners for their services, Ola said. How it works: ●To use this feature, the person requesting the ride for a guest can simply tap “Where to?” as they normally would, then choose who is riding above their pickup location. ●The rider will receive trip information in an SMS text message -- including <keyword id="119058" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="ETA">ETA</keyword>, car type, and driver contact information, enabling them to coordinate with the driver directly. ●The driver will see the rider’s name, and be able to contact that person, through a masked number, for privacy. ●The ride will be charged to the requestor’s card on file unless the requestor selects cash as the payment. Uber is trying to solve the biggest issue with taxi-apps by launching three new features in India

After the proposed Geospatial bill raised many eyebrows, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=kiren+rijiju&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju</a> said it will not hurt tech companies. 
 
However, he cautioned companies such as <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=google&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Google</a>, saying they will have to make sure to show Arunachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir correctly on India’s map.

Rijiju told ET the proposed Geospatial Information Regulation Bill will punish those who violate depicting Indian maps as well as mapping so-called security sensitive areas.

 The minister told ET that tech industry's concerns would be addressed, which has argued that such a bill would impact <keyword id="6355629" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Google">Google</keyword>, <keyword id="6354427" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Apple">Apple</keyword>, Uber, Ola, Zomato and an array of startups. 
 
"The law should not have any kind of negative impact or creating a negative atmosphere for business growth... definitely all concerns of the industry will be addressed in the final law. I am assuring that the intention of the government is to facilitate business... It is not to create a hurdle,” he said. 
 
Also, Rijiju said India would like Google to depict boundary in a correct manner. 
 
“That is our sovereign concern that we will always put that across. They (Google) have their own way of thinking. They have not shown Arunachal as part of China but they show it in red colour as disputed. That is not acceptable to us at all,” he told ET.

Maps law will punish those who depict Indian map incorrectly, says Rijiju

Due to MNCs like Google and Apple giving a cold response to India's security concerns, they might soon need a license for <keyword id="3354536" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="satellite-mapping-in-India">satellite mapping in India</keyword>, says a proposed legislation. <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/PoK-and-Arunachal-as-disputed-territories/articleshow/52129850.cms">As reported last week</a>, a draft of <keyword id="3354538" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Geospatial-Information-Regulation-Bill">Geospatial Information Regulation Bill</keyword> was released last week, saying that anyone mapping India by a satellite or aerial platform will be needing a licence from a government "security vetting authority". 
 This move is being criticised as "return of the <keyword id="736863" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="licence-raj">Licence Raj</keyword>" and "digital nationalism". However, Kiren Rijiju, MoS for Home, has reacted to the criticism saying, "India as a responsible power must have established guidelines. We won't create hurdles for business and technological development, but national security considerations must not be compromised either." 
 
Non-compliance to the above regulation could land you in jail for seven years, while inviting a fine of up to Rs 100 crore. 
 
One person who seems to have particularly campaigned for such law is BJP MP Tarun Vijay, who has asked "patriotic Indians" to use the country's own <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/ISRO-is-hoping-its-big-offering-would-gain-popularity-in-the-market/articleshow/48187137.cms">'Bhuvan'</a> software application for maps. 
 
"Why do we need Google? We should stop becoming Google's instruments," he told ET. "The patriotic government of Narendra Modi has taken a right step in a big relief to the security establishment. UPA did not take any action despite my pleas to the then Defence Minister AK Antony. I congratulate the Modi government for showing spine in face of arrogance of these IT giants," he said, adding: Google has been "behaving as if it were above Indian law".

A top government official aware of the matter told ET that maps of India's sensitive installations were available on Google Maps, which significantly increases the security risk of those sites. "<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/26/11-Mumbai-attacks-mastermind-Hafiz-Saeed-lauds-Pathankot-attacks-warns-India-of-more/articleshow/50852967.cms">Pathankot air base</a>, which was recently attacked, can be seen on Google Maps. Terrorists plot strikes on sensitive targets studying Google Maps," he said. 
 
If the legislation is passed, companies like <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Google-to-set-up-a-new-campus-in-India-Sundar-Pichai/articleshow/50203683.cms">Google</a>, Microsoft and Apple, would be severely and directly hit as they have millions of Indians using their maps. Moreover, several firms like Ola, Uber and Zomato depend on these maps to provide their services, and they too won’t be spared from the results. 
 
Mishi Choudhary, legal director at Software Freedom Law Centre, told ET that since almost all online businesses today depend on geo-location for their services, all of them will be forced to seek a licence under the proposed law, which is a threat to digital India. 
 
"This kind of digital nationalism is a way to create a government-controlled monopoly on all geographical information about the country, conveniently transforming Digital India to Licence India, digitally this time," she said. 
 
However, a senior government official has added that companies should not have a problem to come under regulations on security considerations, given that the bill is seeking public comments and if they don’t like it, they can lodge their apprehensions. "We are not banning anyone from mapping India - only that the mapping has to be in line with Indian security considerations regarding sensitive installations and correct boundaries being depicted like not showing PoK and Arunachal Pradesh as out of India," this official said. 
 
Meanwhile, a group of techies have created a website called savethemap.in, aiming to educate people about the matter and send out their responses.

Google and Apple might soon need a license for satellite mapping in India

World’s largest taxi hailing apps, including <keyword id="6354720" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ola">Ola</keyword>, are doing everything to stop <keyword id="1042120" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Uber">Uber</keyword>’s bandwagon. 
 India-based Ola, China-based <keyword id="2857463" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Didi-Kuaidi">Didi Kuaidi</keyword>, US’ <keyword id="6362418" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="lyft">Lyft</keyword> and Malaysia-based <keyword id="2196710" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="GrabTaxi">GrabTaxi</keyword> have entered into a partnership to counter Uber. 
 
This move will allow passengers to book rides on any of these services using just one app! 
 
This means if an Ola customer who travels to China, South East Asia, or the US, can book a taxi using the same app. 
 
All this effort by the world’s best taxi aggregators is to tackle the global reach of their main rival-Uber. 
 
"This will be a win for the diversity and vitality of the global ridesharing industry," said Cheng Wei, CEO of Didi Kuaidi. 
 
Ola, Didi Kuaidi, and Grab-Taxi have SoftBank’s backing, while Lyft has funding from Alibaba. 
 
As per reports, joint partner products will start rolling out in Q1 of 2016 and each country will handle mapping, routing and payments through a secure system across countries. 
 
Meanwhile, Uber plans to invest $1 billion India and expand its services. Uber operates in 57 countries, with an estimated value of more than $40 billion.

Given the size of the task at hand, Pranay is always shuttling between cities at top neck speed. It is during one such dash from Bangalore to Delhi that we stole an hour from him, asking him about all the aces <keyword id="6354720" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ola">Ola</keyword> has up its sleeves for the next year. For a company that is facing stiff competition from its biggest competitor in India, the global deep-pocketed Uber, Pranay seemed very much at ease discussing some of the finest details of Ola’s path to domination in the rather fast-growing and exuberant cab aggregator space. 
 
 
Q. Ola’s growth has been phenomenal in the past three years. What is going to be Ola’s areas of growth in the coming months? 
 
Pranay: The industry is evolving at a very fast pace. 
We had rentals and outstations as a core business and went into point-to-point and pivoted the model, saw that this is the real opportunity improve that for 3-4 years. Over the last one year, we have got 8-9 categories under the platform. We’ll have very strong focus on shared mobility and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Restaurant-Week-Dinner-at-Olive-Bar-Kitchen/articleshow/54567808.cms">local innovation in terms of how can we further improve customer and driver experience.</a> 
 
Q. What are the cities that have really done well in terms of shared mobility, which is also why I ask you why such focus on shared mobility? 
 
Pranay: In a supply constrained market and shared mobility helps you decongest at least 30, 40, 50 cars – a shared cab for a day running on Ola would serve at least 30, 40 50 customers depending upon the city. The price points at which it comes is obviously cheaper because you are sharing it with the other person and you are also in some way or the other contributing to the environment. 
 
Q. Does a significant portion of rides happen on Ola Share? 
 Pranay: The big markets are all in similar range– between 20 to 40%. All the seven big cities would be in this range when it comes to the contribution of Ola Share in the overall rides that we do in that city like Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai, Pune, and <keyword id="6354925" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kolkata">Kolkata</keyword>. We have OlaShare in 15 cities currently. 
 
Q. When you are talking about cities that you are present in, what is the idea or what is the criteria that you look at before you enter a city? 
 
Pranay: When we started we had a comprehensive understanding of what all is needed right from the population, the number of bridges that you have in the city, does it have an airport or a railway station. How well are those connected? Is there a public transport system? How many people use that intuitively? How are autos there? Do they run on the meter? How is the regulatory state government? What are the fuel options available? Then how many hospitals you have, how many schools you have, how many colleges you have, how many big corporates you have. So, these are like some of the parameters and eventually by mapping these parameters – we mapped more than 250 cities when we launched eventually came down to 102 cities to understand what should be the stack ranking of cities in which we are penetrating. Then we also see how is the city connected well. 
 
Q. So, with Ola Outstation facility, you have access to about 500 cities? What innovations are happening in this space? 
 Pranay. <keyword id="51958" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="20" keywordseo="YES">Yes</keyword>. Recently we started one-way trips where you don’t have to pay for the round-trip. So, if you book a cab for <keyword id="6356295" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Agra">Agra</keyword> from Delhi – so far you have to pay for the round-trip even if you are going one side , except that now we have started with one-way trips where you have almost 55% of the ride cost that you have to pay. The driver will get a business from Agra and by using navigation he can run his cab in Agra for a while and then eventually come back. This is something that we are contemplating and should be implemented by March 2017.

Q. There is this whole apprehension that Ola is running out of cash and it’s been written about and spoken about so many times. Please set the record straight. 
 
Pranay: We are reasonably capitalized, well capitalized at the moment. <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/The-pros-and-cons-of-e-wallets-like-Paytm-Freecharge-and-Mobikwik/articleshow/55437683.cms">There are certain speculations out in the market that Ola is raising funds or Ola has raised some funds. </a>But I would say that these are speculations and it will be hard for me to comment on that. If you ask me are you looking for funds or not, then I would say it is a constant journey, and if the opportunities arise and the market is hot obviously regardless of whether you need money or not, you will go ahead.

Month-end dollar demand as well as forex outflows also kept the rupee in a tight range. The rupee continued to trade flat at 83.73 against the US dollar at 9.45 am. In the domestic equity market, the 30-share BSE <keyword id="19896382" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sensex" source="keywords">Sensex</keyword> rose 67 points to 81,423.53, while Nifty advanced 25 points to 24,861.35 in early trade on Tuesday. The Sensex had advanced 23.12 points, or 0.03 per cent, to settle at 81,355.84 points, on Monday. Meanwhile, the dollar index, which gauges the greenback's strength against a basket of six currencies, was at 104.6070, marginally up 0.04 per cent. Brent crude futures -- the global oil benchmark -- slipped 0.33, or 0.41 per cent, to <keyword id="19944038" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="USD" source="keywords">USD</keyword> 79.45 per barrel. Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) were net sellers in the capital markets on Monday, selling shares worth Rs 2,474.54 crore, according to exchange data.
