While this is considerably lower than the 1,07,472 electric scooters sold in July 2024, there has been a 40% year-on-year growth when compared to the 63,184 electric scooters sold in September 2023. Electric two-wheelers continue to form the bulk of electric vehicle (EV) sales in India, with EV two-wheelers making up nearly 60% of Indian EV sales in September 2024 in terms of numbers. <h2>Ola Electric leads but with a lower share</h2>Bhavish Aggarwal-led Ola Electric continued to lead the Indian electric two-wheeler market with a 27% market share, which is considerably lower than the 39% share it enjoyed in July 2024. In August 2024, the company reported a 31% market share. The company sold 23,965 electric scooters in September 2024, up from 18,536 scooters sold in September 2023. However, this is lower than the 26,928 scooters the company sold in August 2024. Ola Electric has been plagued by customer complaints, with reports suggesting a surge in issues with its scooters. <h2>Legacy brands power through</h2>Bajaj Auto and TVS Motor, legacy two-wheeler brands have started inching closer towards Ola Electric, which once dominated the Indian electric two-wheeler market. Bajaj Auto, with its Chetak Electric scooter, has occupied the second spot for the first time, beating TVS Motor. The company recorded its highest-ever sales in September 2024 with 18,933 scooters sold, up from 7,107 scooters sold in September 2023, recording a 166% year-on-year growth. With this, the company now enjoys a 21.5% market share. The company has also kept an option to raise ₹1,100 crore via pre-IPO placement. As part of OFS, Aggarwal will offload 4.7 crore equity shares, which is around half of the OFS component. Apart from this, companies such as Indus Trust, Kaha Wave Ventures, MacRitchie Investments, Alpine Opportunity Fund, Matrix Partners India Investments, and others will divest some shares. According to the draft papers, out of the funds raised, ₹1,226.4 crore will be used for capital expenditure and ₹800 crore will be used to repay debt. The company will spend around ₹1,6000 crore on research and development and ₹350 crore on growth initiatives. Ola Electric has emerged as the leading electric two-wheeler maker in the country and has been leading the market for a long time now. The company occupies around half of the market share. The electric two-wheeler maker had partnered with MapMyIndia to offer navigational services on its electric scooters. <h2>Data copied</h2>MapMyIndia has claimed that Ola Electric has duplicated the API (application programming interface) and SDKs (software development kits) from the company’s proprietary sources to build Ola Maps. <div type="Article" hostid="261" msid="112039063" title="Pixel 9 series design and specs revealed ahead of launch next month" mstype="2" mssubtype="0"></div> “It is firmly stated that our client’s exclusive data has been copied/derived by you to further your illegal motive and for your unjust commercial gains,” MapMyIndia reportedly said in its notice. Further, the company dismissed Ola Electric’s claim of developing the map data for Ola Maps from Open Map. “Your assertion that you have developed API and map data/Ola Maps solely through open map is factually incorrect and not tenable,” the company added. The company has said that the agreement signed between the two companies prohibits co-mingling and reverse engineering under the Intellectual Property laws. “By indulging in such unscrupulous and illegal activities, you have acted in blatant defiance of the terms and conditions of the agreement and have further infringed the copyright vested exclusively in our client pertaining to the source code,” the notice reads. Ola Electric in a statement to Business Insider India has denied the allegations. “Ola Electric wishes to address the recent claims made by CE Info Systems Limited (“CE Info”) in relation to the alleged issues with Ola Maps vis-à-vis MapMyIndia and reported in news media. We would like to state unequivocally that these allegations are false, malicious and misleading. Ola Electric stands by the integrity of its business practices. We will suitably respond to the notice shortly," an Ola Electric spokesperson said in a statement to Business Insider India. The Delhi-based Geotech startup has said that it will initiate appropriate civil and criminal legal action against Ola Electric. Ola Electric IPO – MapMyIndia accuses company of stealing map data days before IPO opens

The Hyderabad-based company said it is currently in the final stage of concluding its Series A1 funding round, amounting to USD 25 million with the participation of a foreign institutional investor. Concurrently, ongoing discussions are taking place with potential investors from Dubai, Hong Kong, and Singapore for Series A2 funding, targeting an infusion of USD 15 million, it added. Pure EV raises $8 million in latest funding round

New Delhi, <keyword id="4393078" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ola-Electric" source="Orion">Ola Electric</keyword> on Thursday said it has raised Rs 3,200 crore from Temasek-led investors and State Bank of India. The company announced the successful closure of the funding round from Temasek-led investors and State Bank of India. The funds raised would be utilised towards expansion of <keyword id="6354720" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ola" source="Orion">Ola</keyword>'s EV business and setting up India's first lithium-ion cell manufacturing facility at Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu, the company said in a statement. The Bengaluru-based firm aims to accelerate its growth by ramping up its two-wheeler manufacturing capacity, launching electric motorcycles followed by electric cars and fast-tracking the construction of gigafactory, it added. "At Ola, our vision is to end ICE (internal combustion engine) age in automobiles and our upcoming gigafactory will be a big leap in India's journey towards becoming a global EV hub. We are committed towards developing core technologies in EVs and cell and are rapidly scaling up manufacturing to further accelerate the transition to sustainable mobility," Ola Electric Founder &amp; CEO Bhavish Aggarwal said. Ola Electric was selected by the government under its ambitious cell PLI scheme, receiving a maximum capacity of 20 GWh.

Ola Electric raises Rs 3,200 cr to fund EV business

According to a<a href="https://auto.economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/two-wheelers/e-scooters-may-get-pricier-on-proposed-subsidy-cut/100315879"> report</a> by Economic Times, the Ministry of Heavy Industries has recommended the government to slash the cap of subsidy on electric two wheelers from the present 40% to 15% of the ex-factory price. This, the officials said, will help to spread the incentive to a larger number of vehicles. With the addition of ₹1,000 crore of unutilized funds from three-wheelers, the allocation for electric two-wheelers under the FAME-II scheme will be increased to ₹3,500 crore. A recent report revealed that only 1 per cent household consumers plan to buy an e-scooter in the next six months amid safety and performance concerns, as the government probes multiple fires in electric two-wheelers. Around 32 percent of respondents are not convinced about the safety and performance of electric scooters in August while in March this year, the number stood at 17 per cent - as more than two dozen electric two-wheelers caught fire in March and April, according to community social media platform LocalCircles.
