Players like DLF, Sobha, Puravankara, Prestige Estates, Brigade Enterprises, Mahindra Lifespace Developers, <keyword id="45432" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Godrej-Properties">Godrej Properties</keyword>, Oberoi Realty and <keyword id="215249" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kolte-Patil">Kolte Patil</keyword> Developers, saw an uptick in sales for the fiscal— which rose after FY17 slowdown caused by demonetization. The developers saw a 159% jump in housing sales from FY17 and a 63% jump from the market’s peak in FY15. “ANAROCK research reveals that these companies together sold approximately 4 million sqft. of housing in FY 2019 as against approximately 17 million sqft. in FY17 and 27 million sqft. in FY15,” said the report. But the elation might be short-lived. In the last two quarters, slowdown has hit the economy fast and hard— tipping housing sales out of balance, yet again. According to a report by PropEquity, new housing unit launches too fell by 24%. New Delhi, Feb 8 () Oberoi Realty has reported 7 per cent increase in consolidated net profit at Rs 148.24 crore for the quarter ended December despite fall in total income.Its net profit in the year-ago period stood at Rs 137.93 crore. Total income, however, fell to Rs 536.53 crore in the third quarter of 2019-20 from Rs 548.79 crore in the same period a year ago, according to a regulatory filing."The Union Budget and the new RBI policy have paved the path to growth and liquidity. Siva Krishnan, Managing Director and India Head, Residential Services, JLL India, said: "This move will help reduce the landed cost for developers, thereby rationalising the cost and reducing the burden on customers. It is expected to further trigger the recovery of the residential real estate market which has seen a good uptick in the last two quarters due to factors like lower interest rates, and pro-active measures from the government like stamp duty reduction." He noted that the latest moves, coupled with the ongoing measures, will go a long way in enticing both end-users and investors back to the residential market. Low mortgage rates, stable property prices and robust hiring outlook for IT/ITeS [IT-enabled services] and financial services, especially in south India and continued work-from-home is expected to support residential housing demand,” said a report by ICICI Securities, dated September 4. The report says DLF, Oberoi Realty, Brigade Enterprises, Sunteck Realty and Mahindra Lifespaces are some preferred stocks by the broking firm in the realty segment. The report shows that the home loan rates offered by most large lenders range in the 7-7.5% range for 20-year housing loans and is the lowest ever since 2005. The Indian real estate performance has been affected for many years owing to demonetisation, real estate regulatory authority (RERA)/goods and services tax (GST) implementation, NBFC funding crisis and the first and second waves of the COVID-19 pandemic in India. “However, heading into FY22 and beyond, we believe that the sector is set for an upcycle,” said analysts at ICICI Securities. RERA came into action in 2017 to ensure transparency in the real estate segment thereby tightening rules, which made it difficult for developers to launch new projects without approvals. And in the last few years, non-banking financial companies have seen a <a href="https://www.moneycontrol.com/news/business/all-you-want-to-know-about-the-nbfc-crisis-3966551.html">liquidity crisis led by IL&amp;FS group. </a> Gagan Banga, managing director of Indiabulls Housing Finance, in an interview with CNBC-TV18 said that they are seeing strong demand in home loans. “Mid-income group is showing a lot of demand, the best in 15 years,” he said. “The Indian real estate sector is at a crossroads. After a gap of almost eight years, demand seems to be picking up in the residential segment aided by improved affordability, COVID-19 induced factors and government measures to boost housing absorption,” said a report by Edelweiss Securities. Further, analysts feel the residential market will do well in the near future. Listed players have gained market share with new launches in the last 2-3 years and they expect it to continue. Yash Gupta, equity research analyst at Angel Broking, says he expects the residential market to do well in the near future. Also, expect new hiring by [the] IT industry to increase residential demand in Bangalore, Pune and Chennai. “We have seen a strong consolidation in the top 10 cities in India towards organised players post Demon [demonetisation], RERA, IL&amp;FS crisis. If so, you are more likely to develop an alcohol use disorder (AUD), a <keyword id="1243099" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="new-study">new study</keyword> suggests. The findings, published in the American Journal of Psychiatry, indicate that individuals developing an AUD are more likely to be sensitized to the <keyword id="79322" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="effects">effects</keyword> of alcohol -- that is, they experience a stronger positive <keyword id="61262" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="response">response</keyword> -- rather than habituated to the substance with a lower level of response. "These pleasurable alcohol effects grow in intensity over time, and do not dissipate, in people progressing in excessive drinking," said lead author Andrea King, Professor at the University of Chicago in the US. "This tells us that having a higher sensitivity to the rewarding effects of alcohol in the brain puts such individuals at higher risk for developing an addiction," King added. For the study, the team followed a cohort of 190 young adults in a laboratory-based binge drinking scenario at three regular intervals over the course of 10 years.When retested on their responses 10 years later, those who became alcoholics had the highest levels of alcohol stimulation, liking and wanting - and these were heightened compared to their baseline with no signs of tolerance to these pleasurable effects. The study showed that higher sensitivity to the euphoric and rewarding effects of alcohol can predict who will go on to have an AUD as they progress through their 20s and 30s. "Our results support a theory called incentive-sensitization," said King. "In response to a standard intoxicating dose of alcohol in the laboratory, ratings of wanting more alcohol increased substantially over the decade among the individuals who developed more severe AUD. Additionally, the hedonic response -- essentially, how much a person liked the effects -- remained elevated over this interval and didn't go down at all. This has traditionally been the crux of the lore of addiction -- that addicts don't like the drug (alcohol) but can't stop using it," King added. The pandemic made it worse and, despite steady cuts in benchmark interest rates by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), the recovery has been slow, to put it mildly. According to latest data from property consultants at Anarock, over 1.74 lakh under-construction homes ⁠— estimated to be worth over ₹1.4 lakh crore (about $20 billion) are stuck across the top seven cities in India. These projects were launched before 2014 but have not been completed since. The total number of properties under construction in India exceeds 626,000. Even HDFC’s earnings statement noted that people preferred ready-to-move properties compared to those under construction. Many of those who have taken home loans are also struggling to repay. Individual non performing assets (NPAs) increased due to slippages after the impact of the second wave of the pandemic. <div type="image" title="HDFC chart 2" height="900" width="1200" msid="84971003" hostid="261"></div> However, the outlook for real estate stocks has been so bad that investors are craving for any amount of optimism. And, some of it has been available for those seeking it. New Delhi, Feb 6 () Rate-sensitive stocks on Thursday closed with gains after the RBI left the policy rates unchanged but maintained its accommodative stance to boost growth.Among bank stocks, IndusInd Bank gained 4.85 per cent, RBL Bank rose 4.53 per cent, SBI 3.55 per cent, Yes Bank 2.53 per cent, Axis Bank 1.77 per cent, Federal Bank 1.65 per cent, City Union Bank 1.39 per cent and ICICI Bank 0.51 per cent on the BSE.The BSE Bank index rose 0.95 per cent to close at 35,819.26.From the auto pack, Eicher Motors climbed 5.26 per cent, Bosch gained 2.44 per cent, TVS Motor Company 2.16 per cent, Hero MotoCorp 1.56 per cent, Motherson Sumi Systems 1 per cent and Ashok Leyland 0.75 per cent.The auto index closed 0.12 per cent higher at 18,271.25. "The market has managed to close in positive territory on the RBI's credit policy day. The RBI maintained status quo on its rate decision, which was on expected lines but announced positive measures for housing finance companies that triggered a positive sentiment in the market," Shrikant Chouhan, Senior Vice-President, Equity Technical Research, Kotak Securities said. In the sixth bi-monthly monetary policy review of 2019-20, the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) unanimously voted to keep the repo rate unchanged at 5.15 per cent while retaining its accommodative stance.Among realty companies, Godrej Properties rose 1.93 per cent, Sobha jumped 1.40 per cent, Indiabulls Real Estate 1.16 per cent, Prestige Estates Projects 1.06 per cent, Oberoi Realty 0.52 per cent and Sunteck Realty 0.04 per cent. However, some companies witnessed decline with DLF falling 2.88 per cent, Omaxe 0.79 per cent, The Phoenix Mills 0.66 per cent and Mahindra Lifespace Developers 0.40 per cent. The realty index went lower by 0.29 per cent to close at 2,481.15. "It was an expected move by the RBI, maintaining the repo rate unchanged at 5.15 per cent. With the inflation rate breaching the upper band, it will take time for the central bank to revive the rate cuts. By maintaining the accommodative stance, there is scope for rate cuts once the inflation rate falls back to a comfortable level," Deepthi Mary Mathew, Economist, Geojit Financial Services said. The 30-share BSE Sensex settled 163.37 points, or 0.40 per cent, higher at 41,306.03. It hit an intra-day high of 41,405.43. SUM ANUANU

However, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.3%, to 28,331.92 on Wednesday, on the back of a strong rally in tech-related shares. These are the stocks to watch out for during the trading session on Thursday: ICICI Bank ICICI Bank on Wednesday said it would sell up to 2% of its holding in ICICI Securities through an open market transaction. “The Board of Directors of the bank, at its meeting held today, approved the sale of up to 6,442,000 equity shares of face value ₹5 each of ICICI Securities Limited (company), representing up to 2% of its issued and paid-up equity share capital, through an open market sale,” the bank said in a regulatory filing. The shares of ICICI Bank ended nearly a percent higher on Wednesday. Oberoi Realty, Godrej Properties and other real estate stocks The Maharashtra government has decided to slash stamp duty on sale deed documents by 3% from September 1 to December 31, 2020, and by 2% from January 1, 2021 to March 31 2021. The shares of Oberoi Realty ended nearly 2% lower on Wednesday, whereas Godrej Properties was down nearly a percent. Hindustan Aeronautics Limited The Union Government is selling 15% of its equity stake in the state-owned Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) at ₹1,001 per share to raise about ₹5,000 crore through an offer for sale (OFS). “The Defence Ministry has notified the stock exchanges in the evening on selling 15% of its equity stake (5.01-crore shares) in the company at ₹1,001 per share of ₹10 face value through OFS,” a company official <a href="https://www.sify.com/finance/govt-to-sell-15-stake-in-hal-through-sale-offer-news-news-ui0skQhedbahj.html">told IANS</a>. The shares of HAL ended nearly a percent higher on Wednesday. Mahindra and Mahindra Limited Automobile major Mahindra &amp; Mahindra and e-mobility technology company REE Automotive has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to explore development and manufacturing of commercial electric vehicles for global markets. “The partnership will support REE’s global customer need for 200,000-250,000 electric commercial vehicle units over a few years, including potential Mahindra’s domestic and international volumes. Production would be scaled further to support additional volume in the global as well as Indian market,” the company said. The shares of M&amp;M ended over 1% higher on Wednesday. Infosys Infosys has launched an AI-driven solution that will automate help desk operations, allow customers to eliminate manual resolution and build near-touchless contact centres in the Covid-19 times. Infosys partnered Blue Prism, a leading Robotic Process Automation (RPA) provider and a strategic partner, to build the ‘Cognitive Email Workbench’ solution. The shares of Infosys ended nearly 2% higher on Wednesday. Rossari Biotech SBI Mutual fund increased its stake in Rossari Biotech from 4.80% to 5.25%. The shares of Rossari Biotech ended nearly 2% lower on Wednesday. Allcargo Logistics The board of directors of Allcargo Logistics will meet today to consider and approve the voluntary delisting of shares The shares of Allcargo Logistics ended nearly 2% lower on Wednesday. Jindal Stainless Jindal Stainless’ board approved raising up to ₹162.8 crore through issue of convertible equity warrants. “The board of directors of Jindal Stainless Ltd at its meeting held today...considered and approved raising funds through issue of convertible equity warrants for an amount up to ₹162.8 crore on preferential basis,” the company said in a filing to the stock exchanges. The shares of Jindal Stainless ended nearly 3% higher on Wednesday. ITC, VST Industries and Godfrey Phillips For providing benefits to farmers, a parliamentary panel has recommended permitting regulated foreign direct investment (FDI) in the tobacco sector and establishing export-only tobacco farms to boost outward shipments. The shares of ITC ended nearly a percent lower on Wednesday. Indraprastha Gas The company reported 88% fall in its net profit to Rs 35.2 crore for the first quarter ended June 30. The company's total revenue declined 58.9% to Rs 638 crore. The shares of Indraprastha Gas ended flat on Wednesday. New Delhi, Dec 5 () Rate-sensitive bank and auto stocks fell on Thursday while realty companies largely depicted a mixed trend after the Reserve Bank surprised with its decision to hold key policy rates.
Among bank stocks, IndusInd Bank fell 2.21 per cent, RBL Bank 1.95 per cent, SBI 1.65 per cent, Yes Bank 1.51 per cent, Axis Bank 1.39 per cent, Federal Bank 1.25 per cent, HDFC Bank 0.50 per cent, Kotak Mahindra Bank 0.46 per cent and ICICI Bank 0.27 per cent on the BSE.
The BSE Bank index closed at 36,147.31, down 0.76 per cent.
The Reserve Bank on Thursday unexpectedly hit a pause button on cutting interest rate as it gave more importance to prevailing inflation pressure and rising food prices over a worrying slowdown in the economy.
After five consecutive cuts in interest rates this year, the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC), headed by RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das, unanimously voted to hold the key repo rate at 5.15 per cent and reverse repo rate at 4.90 per cent.
Among auto companies, Tata Motors skidded 1.95 per cent, Hero MotoCorp 1.76 per cent, Ashok Leyland 1.42 per cent, Motherson Sumi Systems 1.17 per cent, Maruti Suzuki India 0.99 per cent, Bajaj Auto 0.71 per cent, M&amp;M 0.37 per cent and TVS Motor Company 0.08 per cent.
 Tracking weakness in these scrips, the BSE auto index settled 0.64 per cent lower at 17,810.17.
 "RBI's decision to keep policy rates unchanged was a surprise, especially after indicating in the last policy that growth was a bigger concern and reducing the FY 2020 GDP growth estimate to 5 per cent," said Suvodeep Rakshit, Vice President &amp; Sr Economist, Kotak Institutional Equities. 
 Realty index was mixed at the closing bell. Shares of Phoenix Mills fell 2.64 per cent, Sunteck Realty 1.70 per cent, Mahindra Lifespace Developers 1.59 per cent, Godrej Properties 0.19 per cent, Indiabulls Real Estate 0.16 per cent and Prestige Estates Projects 0.09 per cent.
 In contrast, Oberoi Realty gained 2.75 per cent, Sobha 0.59 per cent, Omaxe 0.42 per cent and DLF 0.39 per cent.
 The realty index closed at 2,198.50, up 0.20 per cent.
 HDFC Securities MD &amp; CEO Dhiraj Relli said, "Though the stock market participants could be disappointed by the no-repo-rate-cut action, we think that the participants are mature enough to understand the prudence of the Central Bank which means that the markets may not react downwards sharply due to this disappointment."
In the broader market, the 30-share BSE gauge Sensex was lower by 70.70 points or 0.17 per cent to close at 40,779.59. 
"It was an unexpected move with the RBI keeping the repo rate unchanged at 5.15 per cent, as the market expected 25 bps (basis points) cut in repo rate," Deepthi Mary Mathew, Economist at Geojit Financial Services said.
"Given the growth-inflation dynamics, we still sense that RBI will deliver a rate cut of 25bps in February policy meeting given the widespread deceleration in the economy," Amar Ambani, Head of Research - Institutional Equities, YES Securities said. SUM

New Delhi, Mar 27 () Interest-rate sensitive bank, realty and auto shares which had mostly rallied during morning trade on Friday closed on a mixed note even after the Reserve Bank of India cut benchmark interest rate by 75 basis points to deal with the hardship caused by COVID-19 outbreak. Shares of Federal Bank closed 6.34 per cent higher, Axis Bank 4.98 per cent, ICICI Bank 2.44 per cent, State Bank of India 1.66 per cent and Kotak Mahindra Bank 0.64 per cent. In contrast, IndusInd Bank settled 5.94 per cent lower, City Union Bank fell 3.86 per cent, RBL Bank 2.93 per cent, and HDFC Bank 0.91 per cent. The BSE Bank index closed 0.96 per cent higher at 22,965.51. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Friday cut benchmark interest rate by 75 basis points to 4.4 per cent to deal with the hardship caused due to the outbreak of COVID-19. The central bank also reduced the cash reserve ratio (CRR) of all banks by 100 basis points to 3 per cent with effect from March 28 for 1 year. V K Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist, Geojit Financial Services called the measures "A massive bazooka from the RBI in "mission mode". He said it is a relief-cum-stimulus package with a big repo cut and even bigger reverse repo cut. This together with CRR cut will be a big stimulus for banks to lend. The combination of measures to boost liquidity, improve monetary transmission and relax repayment pressures will act with force multiplier in the economy. Among realty companies, Sunteck Realty ended 9.93 per cent higher, Indiabulls Real Estate 4.89 per cent, Prestige Estates Projects 3.92 per cent and DLF 0.58 per cent, while Oberoi Realty dropped 5.66 per cent, Godrej Properties 3.78 per cent, Sobha 0.90 per cent and Omaxe fell 0.71 per cent. The realty index dipped 0.78 per cent to close the trade at 1,427.65. "Markets traded volatile and finally settled on a flat note, taking a breather after the recent recovery. The benchmark indices opened higher, however, gains soon fizzled out despite big and bold moves announced by the RBI to address liquidity needs and ensure financial stability," said Ajit Mishra, VP - Research, Religare Broking Ltd. Among auto pack, shares of M&amp;M finished 2.83 per cent higher, Ashok Leyland 0.46 per cent, Apollo Tyres 0.49 per cent, while Hero MotoCorp dropped 8.04 per cent, TVS Motor Company 5.54 per cent, Maruti Suzuki India 4.81 per cent, Bajaj Auto 2.48 per cent and Tata Motors 0.21 per cent. The auto index fell 2.35 per cent to close at 11,223.81. "RBI has come out with lots of measures to ensure the stability of the financial system and inject liquidity in the market amid ongoing turmoil of pandemic," said Amit Gupta, Co-Founder &amp; CEO, TradingBells. He noted that it is a very good policy to cheer the market, but the problem is that the market has already rallied too much from lower levels ahead of policy and real trend decider for the market will be the trend in new cases of Covid-19 globally and locally. Meanwhile, the domestic equity markets closed on a weak note with the benchmark Sensex falling 131.18 points to close at 29,815.59. SUM ANSANS
