As it offers a new range of entire Disney library, Hotstar will increase its annual subscription price to ₹1,499 ($20). This will make Disney+ Hotstar the second most expensive OTT service in India after Netflix to offer a premium subscription at ₹1499. The OTT services also promises to let users view its free content library which includes several movies like Chhichhore, Mission Mangal and soap operas like Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata hai. Hotstar quietly rolls out Disney+ in India -- with dozens of originals including Star Wars and High School Musical

Hotstar is already the top streaming platform in the country with 300 million monthly users. The OTT platform was also launched in February 2015, just before the ICC World Cup 2015. Disney+ Hotstar premium tier In an earnings call with analysts, Disney chief executive Bob Iger revealed that it will launch the Disney+ service in India. “We’re also excited to announce that we will be launching Disney Plus in India through our Hotstar service on March 29, at the beginning of the Indian Premier League Cricket season. We will be rebranding our existing Hotstar VIP and Premium subscription tiers to Disney Plus Hotstar,” said Iger during the earnings call. The company has not revealed any information about the pricing of the service yet. At present, Hotstar Premium is priced at ₹999 per year but its plans start from ₹365 for the VIP plan which does not include English content. "Adding 7.9 million Disney+ subscribers in the quarter and total subscriptions across all our DTC offerings exceeding 205 million once again proved that we are in a league of our own," Chapek said in a statement late on Wednesday. Across all of Disney's streaming services (Disney+, Hulu, ESPN+), total subscriptions exceeded 205 million. Hulu contributed 45.6 million subscriptions this quarter and ESPN+ added 1 million to reach 22.3 million subscribers. The Walt Disney Company reported earnings for its second fiscal quarter that ended April 2. Revenues for the quarter grew 23 per cent to $19.25 billion and earnings of 25 cents per share. However, the company took a $1 billion hit for the amount due to a customer to early terminate license agreements for film and television content delivered in previous years in order for the company to use the content primarily on our direct-to-consumer services. Disney on April 3 launched Disney Plus (Disney+) in India via Hotstar, a popular on-demand video platform, at a starting price of Rs 399 a year.
