According to the AIIMS Chief Spokesperson Dr Aarti Vij, the premier hospital is in the process of modifying OPDs in view of COVID-19. Preparations are in full-swing for setting up a screening OPD to identify and segregate patients having influenza-like-illness and COVID-19 suspects before they are sent to the main OPD, she said. "This is being done from the point of view of taking all possible infection control measures to prevent any spread of infection to non-COVID patients and healthcare workers. Steps are also being taken towards ensuring good air circulation. Since we are modifying the OPDs, it will require few more days," Dr Vij said. It has been close to a month that the AIIMS has shut down its OPD services and curtailed all elective surgeries as part of its effort towards redirecting its resources to control the COVID-19 outbreak. The hospital has also constituted a committee to devise a strategy for restoring healthcare services in a phased manner, Dr Vij said. A large proportion of manpower and patient care facilities are being dedicated for managing COVID-19 patients. Besides the AIIMS Trauma Centre has been converted into a dedicated COVID-19 hospital and the NCI Jhajjar also is treating coronavirus infected patients. "Doctors at AIIMS are currently providing tele-consultation to all follow-up patients in an effort to reduce the need for them to visit the facility during the lockdown. Around 1000 tele-consultations are being provided per day in different departments in total and these figures are going up," Dr Vij said. The COVID-19 National Tele-consultation Centre (CoNTeC) at AIIMS, New Delhi has handled over 4,500 calls that includes calls for COVID-19 related queries, tele-consultation calls by doctors and calls for appointments. The CoNTeC phone number (+91 9115444155) can be dialled from anywhere in the country/world for OPD appointments and also used as a public helpline. Besides, around 44,000 mails from across the country have been responded to through the dedicated email ID (technicalquery.covid19@gov.in) to clarify any doubts in the minds of the general public pertaining to any technical aspect of COVID-19, Dr Vij said. An AIIMS sub-committee earlier was asked to prepare a blueprint for smooth restoration of OPD and non-emergency surgery services. The chief of Centres and Heads of Departments at AIIMS were asked to give an estimate of how many cases they can handle in a day if it has to be restarted. New Delhi, Jun 23 () Almost three months after it closed down its OPD services, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences here has decided to resume the operation from June 25 for its follow-up patients, not more than 15 a day, for each department initially, officials said on Tuesday. The outpatient department (OPD) services will be available for follow-up patients as of now, but requisite appointments for limited number of new patients will also be given for those departments who wish to start physical OPD consultation, they said. For the first time in its history, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) had shut down its OPD services, including specialty services, as well as new and follow-up registrations from March 24 as part of its effort towards redirecting its resources to control the COVID-19 outbreak. "AIIMS to restart physical OPD services from June 25. It is informed that the Director AIIMS has approved the resumption of physical appointments for old/follow-up patients, not to exceed 15 per day for any department initially which will be enhanced in a few days," an official circular issued to all departments on Tuesday said. In addition, requisite appointments for limited number of new patients will also be given for those departments who wish to start physical OPD consultation, the circular stated. However, no appointments will be given for evening specialty clinics in the first phase of OPD reopening. "It will be the prerogative of the departments to call patients directly or screen them through tele-consultation before giving a physical appointment," the circular said. Patients can be given appointment for OPD consultation directly by the department or through the computer facility as decided by the department concerned. However, if an appointment is given from the department, the departmental appointment list will have to be intimated to the computer facility and faculty in-charge of the OPD 48 hours in advance, it said. All heads of clinical departments in AIIMS have been requested to provide information on the date of resumption of physical OPD for patients of the department concerned and daily list of patients along with their telephone numbers who have been given appointment for physical consultation, the circular added. Surgeries, invasive procedures and OPDs to resume at all Delhi government hospitals

New Delhi, July 13 () The All India Institute of Medical Sciences has increased the daily limit on the number of new and follow-up patients who can book appointments for physical consultation at the out-patient department, the hospital said on Monday. Up to 30 new and 30 follow-up patients can now book appointments online. On June 25, AIIMS here restarted its OPD services for follow-up patients and allowed 15 patients to seek consultation each day. In addition, requisite appointments for a limited number of new patients were also being given for physical OPD consultation. AIIMS, for the first time in its history, had shut down its OPD services from March 24 as part of its effort towards redirecting its resources to control the COVID-19 outbreak. Since then, doctors at the institute have been providing tele-consultation to all follow-up patients in an effort to reduce the need for them to visit the facility during the lockdown. "In continuation with the decision of the administration to resume OPD services from June 25, the Director, AIIMS has desired to roll out the second phase of resumption of OPD services, whereby patients (new and old ) can book direct physical appointments directly for each department," an official circular issued on Monday stated. Patients can book appointments through the online registration system (ORS) or interactive voice response (IVR) system. They will be allowed into the premises after a confirmatory message for appointment and after physical screening, the circular read. Also, patients will be screened for influenza-like illness (ILI) symptoms before they are being allowed to enter the OPD. Besides, the hospital on May 2 had made it mandatory for patients to wear masks while visiting the Emergency or other patient care areas in the hospital. Outpatient insurance aggregator HealthAssure raises ₹50 crore

Speaking to IANS, a hospital official said on condition of anonymity, "Yes the OPD has been opened for the patients." The source also said that the OPD was never closed. "We had just stopped registering new patients and had cut short the timing of the OPD service for the follow-up patients till 10.30 a.m. From today, we have opened registration for new patients till 10.30 a.m." The official said that the OPD service has been opened with certain terms and conditions. "We have to ensure that social distancing is maintained. We have trained our support staff so that they can keep a check on whether people are maintaining social distancing norms, and send the patients one by one," he said. Elaborating further, the official told IANS that the hospital has ramped up its dedicated Covid-19 block in case they have more <keyword id="8669183" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Coronavirus-patients">coronavirus patients</keyword>. "We are also marking circles so that social distancing is maintained," he said. However, the official said that people should still avoid coming to the hospital. "We are receiving asymptomatic Covid-19 patients, so people need to understand that they can still contract the virus. Therefore, they should avoid non-essential medication," said the official. He also added that by now people have understood the value of hand hygiene and social distancing etc. "I am very hopeful that people are now aware of the danger of coronavirus and will follow the instructions. Guidelines in this regard will be conspicuously displayed in the hospital premises. Now even all the doctors on duty will wear PPE while treating non-Covid patients. But we are still waiting for official orders from the administration." Meanwhile, an official of the All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS), Delhi, told IANS that discussions are on regarding opening OPD services at the hospital. "Things are yet to be materialised, but there are discussions that the OPDs should be opened for patients now. We are expecting this to happen soon," he said. However, the official said that guidelines for social distancing and other precautionary measures are yet to be finalised. "The administration is mulling over this issue and the OPD will be opened with conditions," he said. In the backdrop of the Covid-19 pandemic, both the hospitals had earlier suspended their OPD service for new patients in order to avoid transmission of the disease and overcrowding. A big relief for non-COVID patients in Delhi — AIIMS has reopened outpatient department

By Payal Banerjee(Eds: Correcting word in headline) New Delhi, May 5 () An AIIMS sub-committee has been asked to prepare a blueprint for smooth restoration of OPD and non-emergency operation services, with the administration planning to resume them in the next ten days, official sources said. Also, non-COVID services, other than emergency, for a limited time is likely to be predominantly referral only where the hospital will cater to only those patients who will be referred from peripheral hospitals, they said. "This can curb the crowd inside the hospital premises to an extent but needs to come out with a well-thought plan considering the pros and cons," a source said. "The plan is to re-open OPD services in a phased manner. If the number of coronavirus cases surge in the near future and, if need be, we will switch back to the previous roster," an official said. Doctors at AIIMS are currently providing tele-consultancy to all patients undergoing treatment at the hospital in an effort to reduce the need for them to visit the facility during the lockdown. In a meeting held Tuesday morning to discuss strategies on restarting the OPD services, the chief of centres and heads of departments at AIIMS were asked to give an estimate of how many cases they can handle in a day if it has to be restarted. The OT teams were also asked to finalise and draw a blueprint on how the non-emergency surgeries will be conducted keeping in view some operation theatres are reserved for suspected COVID-19 patients in the main OT area of the main hospital. Its been over a month that the AIIMS has shut down its OPD services and curtailed all elective surgeries as part of its effort towards redirecting its resources to control the COVID-19 outbreak. The premier hospital has also constituted a committee to devise strategy for restoring healthcare services in a phased manner. "In due course, lockdown is likely to be rolled back and hospital services are needed to be restored in a phased manner with measures in place to avoid cross-infection and COVID-19 transmission," an memorandum issued to all chief of centres and heads of departments on April 25 said. For the first time in its history, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences here shut down OPD services, including speciality and all new and follow-up registration from March 24. New Delhi, July 4 () While COVID-19 healthcare services are being taken up on priority during the ongoing pandemic, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has come up with an innovative idea of mobile vans providing non-coronavirus essential healthcare services to the doorsteps of people in the city, the Union Health Ministry said on Saturday. Many of the large hospitals in the city have been dedicated for COVID-19 treatment, hence various measures have been taken to ensure that non-COVID essential services related to diabetes, blood pressure, heart ailment etc., are also provided to people who cannot visit hospitals as many are not operating OPDs, it said]. "One of interventions adopted by AMC is large-scale deployment of mobile medical vans named 'Dhanvantri Rath'. These vans have an Ayush doctor, paramedic and nursing staff along with local medical officer from Urban Health Centre of AMC," the ministry said in a statement. These vans have been visiting various areas and providing OPD services for non-COVID essential services and field medical consultations to people all over Ahmedabad at their doorsteps. The mobile medical vans carry all essential medicines, including ayurvedic and homeopathic medicines, vitamin supplements, basic testing equipments along with pulse oxymeter. In addition to healthcare services reaching the people who cannot access hospital OPD services for various reasons, Dhanvantri Rath has helped identify those who need further clinical treatment or an IPD admission, and ensured that they reach hospital in a timely manner, the ministry said. The AMC has deployed 120 Dhanvantri Raths across the city. The Dhanvantri vans have successfully conducted over 4.27 lakh OPDs consultations, so far. The intervention has helped to successfully treat over 20,143 patients with fever, over 74,048 with cough, cold and coryza, over 462 patients with severe respiratory tract infections were referred to Urban Health Centre and hospitals for clinical treatment. Besides 826 patients with hypertension, diabetes and other co-morbidities were referred for clinical treatment at the nearby urban health centres, community health centres, and hospitals. Deployment of the Dhanvantri Raths has had a substantial impact on COVID-19 management also, as several hidden cases could be identified in time. From June 15, the scope of health services of mobile medical vans has been extended to include malaria and dengue tests, in view of the fast approaching monsoon season and the likelihood of increase in the vector borne diseases.
