The shares of state-owned <keyword id="64243" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Oil-and-Natural-Gas-Corporation">Oil and Natural Gas Corporation</keyword> (ONGC) surged 5% on Monday on reports that India is considering a floor price for natural gas produced from local fields. IANS Sources said <keyword id="5219124" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="The-Petroleum-Ministry">the petroleum ministry</keyword> is considering a proposal under which domestic gas will have a floor pricing that would prevent fuel prices from crashing below an identified threshold in the current subdued market conditions and insulate oil and gas explorers like ONGC from a tariff crash. <div type="image" title="ONGC" msid="78362156" hostid="261"></div> CNG and piped natural gas prices could face an increase this festive season if the government implements a new floor price mechanism for gas produced from domestic fields by companies such as Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC). Talks are on to link gas prices with price Japan-Korea Marker, a benchmark index used to determine LNG tariff in North Asia with a discount. With JKM prices hovering over $ 5 million British thermal units (mmBtu) even with day $ 1 mmBtu discount, the Indian gas floor price under this formula will be close to $ 4 mmBtu. This is much higher than the government administered price of $ 2.39 mmBtu for the April-October, 2020 period. And if implemented, it could increase the cost for all gas consumers. "Nothing has been finalised on having a gas floor price as of now. A panel in the petroleum ministry is looking at various options and the best course would be adopted that has little impact on consumers but also supports oil and gas companies with remunerative and sustainable gas prices." The average cost of gas production for the country's largest public sector oil company ONGC is about $3.7/mmBtu, much higher than the current regulated price of natural gas at $2.39/mmBtu. This is expected to fall further to about $1.9/mmBtu for the next six months beginning October 1 under the current formula, sources said. Lower gas prices is bad news for ONGC as it would mean further suppressed margins and losses. The company is set to lose close to Rs 6,000 crore on low gas prices this year, brokerages have said. Brokerages have put ONGC's FY22E gas price at US$3.6-4.2/mmbtu depending on discount to JKM price if the new floor price is implemented. With Low L NG liquefaction capacity addition ahead, JKM spot futures for FY22-FY26E are expected at US$5.2-5.8/mmbtu vs US$4.7-4.1/mmbtu in FY20-FY21E. Oil minister Dharmendra Pradhan had said earlier that India will phase out price controls in natural gas and make it market-linked soon. ONGC ONGC told the stock exchanges that it plans to borrow ₹1,500 crore from private investors, offering an interest of 4.5% per year, via non-convertible debentures (NCD) with a face value of ₹10 lakh. These will be unsecured, listed i.e. tradeable, redeemable, non-cumulative, and taxable. NHPC NHPC informed investors that the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) has approved its ₹165 crore resolution plan for taking over Jalpower Corp. JPCL is undergoing a corporate insolvency resolution process that was initiated on April 9, 2019, via NCLT. Tata Power Tata Power announced that it has taken over the management and operations of Odisha’s power distribution utilities WESCO and SOUTHCO upon completion of the sale process. With this, WESCO and SOUTHCO will operate under the company name as TP Western Odisha Distribution Ltd (TPWODL) and TP Southern Odisha Distribution Ltd (TPSODL) respectively. Punjab National Bank The state-owned Punjab National Bank has partnered with IIT Kanpur and the Foundation for Innovation &amp; Research in Science &amp; Technology (FIRST) for establishing an innovation centre at the institute's campus. Cipla The pharma major Cipla launched generic Nintedanib used for the treatment of Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) under the brand name ‘Nintib’ in India. IPF is a rare lung disease that impacts ten in one lakh people, but it is a chronic progressive form of lung disease with an average survival rate of three to five years if left untreated. The shares of Cipla ended flat on Tuesday. Motherson Sumi Motherson Sumi Systems (MSSL), through its Mexican subsidiary, has acquired the activities of Electrical Wiring Interconnection Systems (EWIS) performed at Bombardier Transportation’s manufacturing site in Huehuetoca, Mexico. The deal is valued around $10 million. The shares of Motherson Sumi ended 2% higher on Tuesday. Prabhat Dairy The markets regulator SEBI has directed Prabhat Dairy to cooperate with the forensic auditor and deposit over ₹1,292 crore in a nationalised bank within seven days until the conclusion of the audit. The auditor was appointed to ascertain manipulation of books of accounts of the firm, misrepresentation of financials or business operations by the company, wrongful diversion of funds by promoters. The shares of Prabhat Dairy ended 5% higher on Tuesday. Bajaj Auto The state-owned Life Insurance Corporation increased its stake in Bajaj Auto from 4.76% in the June quarter to 6.4% in the September quarter. L&amp;T Infotech (LTI) The IT major L&amp;T Infotech (LTI) reported a 26.7% increase in consolidated net profit to ₹456.8 crore for the quarter ended September 30. The company’s overall revenue grew 16.6% to ₹2,998.4 crore in the quarter under review. The shares of LTI ended 2% lower on Tuesday. Mastek The software major Mastek’s UK subsidiary has sold its entire stake in Majesco’s US subsidiary for a total value of $32.3 million. The company aims to use the funds for helping the UK arm drive its growth strategy and reduce borrowings. The shares of Mastek ended 1% higher on Tuesday. Equitas Small Finance Bank The ₹518 crore IPO of Equitas Small Finance Bank has so far seen a subdued response from the investors. <keyword id="473841" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="investor-wealth">Investor wealth</keyword> plummeted by nearly Rs 5 lakh crore in early trade on Monday as equity markets crashed tracking global equity selloff amid rising uncertainty over the economic impact of coronavirus outbreak. Market capitalisation (m-cap) of BSE-listed companies saw a massive decline after the 30-share index plunged 1515.01 points, or 4.03 per cent, to 36,061.61. The NSE Nifty too cracked 417.05 points, or 3.80 per cent, to 10,572.40. The carnage in the equity market wiped out investor wealth worth Rs 4,79,820.87 crore, taking the total m-cap to Rs 1,39,39,640.96 crore on the BSE. The m-cap of BSE-listed companies stood at Rs 1,44,31,224.41 crore at the end of trading on Friday. Traders believe mounting fear of recession in major economies due to the coronavirus outbreak has sent equities into a downward spiral. The overall confirmed cases on the mainland reached 80,735 by the end of Sunday which included 3,119 people who have died so far, 19,016 patients undergoing treatment and 58,600 patients discharged after recovery, China's National Health Commission, (NHC) said. All Sensex components were trading in the red, led by losses in ONGC, Reliance, IndusInd Bank, Tata Steel, L&amp;T, ICICI Bank and Infosys. Traders said investor sentiments also remained fragile amid incessant foreign fund outflows. On a net basis, foreign institutional investors sold equities worth Rs 3,594.84 crore on Friday, data available with stock exchanges showed. According to Moody's Global Macro Outlook 2020-21, coronavirus will hurt economic growth in many countries through first half of 2020. The global spread of the coronavirus is resulting in simultaneous supply and demand shocks, it said. "We expect these shocks to materially slow economic activity, particularly in the first half of this year. We have therefore revised our 2020 baseline growth forecasts for all G-20 economies," the report added. On the BSE, 1,745 scrips declined, while 222 advanced and 101 remained unchanged. Meanwhile, oil prices were in a free fall, plunging nearly 30 per cent to USD 32.11 per barrel after top exporter Saudi Arabia launched a price war in response to a failure by leading producers to strike a deal to support energy markets. BEML and Tata Power gains ground BEML shares were up 4%, whereas Tata Power gained 2% after the company closed ₹2,580 crore deal with the Indian Defence Ministry for the procurement of Pinaka rocket launchers for six Army regiments. The contract has been signed with Tata Power Company Ltd (TPCL) and engineering major Larsen &amp; Toubro (L&amp;T) while defence public sector undertaking Bharat Earth Movers Ltd (BEML) will also be part of the project. Biocon gains 5% Biocon shares gained nearly 5% after its subsidiary along with Mylan NV, launched an insulin glargine injection Semglee in the US market. The company said ‘Semglee’ has received final approval from the US FDA and has an identical amino acid sequence to Sanofi’s Lantus, a drug that is used to control high blood sugar. Future Retail tumbles 9% Future Retail shares tumbled 9% after the Government Pension Fund Global, one of the world’s largest sovereign wealth funds sold 95 lakh shares at ₹158.61 per share. The Government Pension Fund Global fund held 2.28% stake in the Future Retail at the end of June. L&amp;T gained 2% L&amp;T shares gained nearly 2% during the early trading hours after the company closed the long-awaited strategic divestment of L&amp;T Electrical and Automation business to Schneider Electric for ₹14,000 crore. Mahindra and Mahindra Anand Mahindra-led automotive major, Mahindra &amp; Mahindra (M&amp;M) bought more shares in Finland-based harvester maker Sampo Rosenlew Oy. M&amp;M had picked up a 35% stake in the Finnish firm in 2016 before raising it to 49.1% over the next four years, and now it has spent ₹18 crore to increase its stake to 74.97% stake in the firm. The shares of M&amp;M ended 5% lower yesterday. GAIL and ONGC GAIL (India) has cut supplies by about 40% to customers, mainly power and fertiliser companies, after a pipeline rupture led to a fire in an ONGC’s Gujarat plant. GAIL in a statement said “about 30 mmscmd of natural gas supplies into its north-western pipeline network (HVJ system) was immediately shut-off” following the fire. The shares of GAIL and ONGC ended 4% and 3% lower, respectively, yesterday. Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) said it has been hired as a digital transformation partner by women fashion retail chain Maurices. TCS will help the company build its greenfield IT ecosystem with the intent of optimising its 200 existing applications and software components within the next 17 months. The shares of TCS ended 6% lower yesterday. RITES The engineering consultancy company, RITES has bagged a ₹206 crore contract to construct four roads over bridges in Andhra Pradesh from Indian Railways. “RITES Ltd has been awarded a turnkey contract for construction of (ROBs) in replacement of existing level crossings on competition basis from Railway Board amounting to Rs 205.85 crore,” the company said in a statement. The shares of RITES ended 1.3% lower yesterday. Marico The FMCG major Marico said it has divested its entire stake in the fitness app Revolutionary Fitness (Revofit). The shares of Marico ended 1% higher yesterday. Divi's Laboratories and SBI Life Insurance Divi's Laboratories and SBI Life Insurance will replace Bharti Infratel and Zee Entertainment Enterprises on the Nifty 50 benchmark index today.
