The blaze, which was preceded by three blasts, has been extinguished, the official said, adding no one was hurt. The blaze was massive and could be seen from a distance of several km, eyewitnesses said. The inlet gas terminal where the fire broke out was cordoned off and the plant secured, he said, adding the cause of the fire will be ascertained after cooling operations are completed. No other industry in the area was affected, he said. There was no confirmation from the district administration of reports that the fire was apparently caused by a rupture in the 36-inch Uran-Mumbai gas pipeline. The ONGC in a tweet said, "A fire was observed in the Hazira Gas processing plant in the morning today. Fire has been brought under control. There is no casualty or injury to any person." "Fire has been completely extinguished. Efforts are being made to resume normal operations at the earliest," it said in another tweet. Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) said it has been hired as a digital transformation partner by women fashion retail chain Maurices. TCS will help the company build its greenfield IT ecosystem with the intent of optimising its 200 existing applications and software components within the next 17 months. RITES The engineering consultancy company, RITES has bagged a ₹206 crore contract to construct four roads over bridges in Andhra Pradesh from Indian Railways. “RITES Ltd has been awarded a turnkey contract for construction of (ROBs) in replacement of existing level crossings on competition basis from Railway Board amounting to Rs 205.85 crore,” the company said in a statement. The shares of RITES ended 1.3% lower yesterday. Marico The FMCG major Marico said it has divested its entire stake in the fitness app Revolutionary Fitness (Revofit). The shares of Marico ended 1% higher yesterday. Divi's Laboratories and SBI Life Insurance Divi's Laboratories and SBI Life Insurance will replace Bharti Infratel and Zee Entertainment Enterprises on the Nifty 50 benchmark index today. <keyword id="5065" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ahmedabad">Ahmedabad</keyword>, <keyword id="739481" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Night-curfew">Night curfew</keyword> in Ahmedabad was extended on Monday till further notice to check the spread of <keyword id="8763838" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="covid-19">COVID-19</keyword> in the <keyword id="6354766" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Gujarat">Gujarat</keyword> city, police said. The move comes a day after Ahmedabad reported 306 new COVID-19 cases, the highest in Gujarat, taking the tally in the district to 52,030, as per official figures. Earlier, the night curfew came into effect in the city on November 23 and was extended till December 7. In a new notification issued on Monday morning, city Police Commissioner Sanjay Srivastava announced extension of the night curfew till further orders. "There will be a curfew between 9 pm and 6 am beginning December 7 until further order in this regard," the order said. "People must remain indoors during this period. They must not stand on roads, streets or public places and not move around on foot or in vehicles during this period," it said. The notification also announced relaxations for some specific services. It said personnel of the police, civil defence, Central Armed Police Forces, fire and emergency services, homeguards, media outlets, ATM operations and private security agencies have been exempted. Distribution of milk and water, doctors, medical personnel and LPG supply have also been excluded from the purview of the night curfew. People found violating the curfew norms will be booked under Indian Penal Code Section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant), and relevant sections of the Disaster Management Act, said the notification. A similar night curfew has also been enforced in Rajkot, Vadodara and Surat since November 21. Night curfew extended in Ahmedabad till further notice

Guwahati, July 13 (IANS) The leaking oil &amp; gas well of the state-owned Oil India (OIL) in Assam is expected to be capped and the fire in one of the wells doused in four-five days, according to a top official here on Monday. "We are in the final phase of capping the well and dousing the fire in the Baghjan well in the Tinsukia district of eastern Assam. We expect the operation to be over in four-five days," a senior OIL official told IANS over phone. Natural gas and oil condensate started leaking from an oil well around 50 days ago. It caught fire a month ago. "Heavy rain and flood affected the operation and damaged many machinery and makeshift structures. Despite that officials, engineers and workers continued to work to control the situation," the official said. US and Canadian experts and engineers, who are associated with Singapore-based ALERT, fire-fighters, NDRF personnel and OIL and ONGC engineers continued their efforts to check gas leak and douse the well fire at Baghjan, around 550 km east of Guwahati. Besides the hostile weather conditions, OIL is also facing agitation by locals demanding higher compensation for their losses. While a section of agitators has withdrawn protest, others continue to agitate holding OIL responsible for the mishap. OIL has provided Rs 30,000 compensation to each of the affected families. OIL officials said transportation of heavy machineries and equipment from Rajahmundry (Andhra Pradesh), Vadodara (Gujarat) and other places was also delayed due to Covid-19 protocols and curbs. On a request from Tinsukia Deputy Commissioner Bhaskar Pegu, the army built a 150-metre-long bridge over a water body to facilitate work to control gas leak and fire. Around 10,000 people have been evacuated and sheltered in 14 relief camps as the fire damaged houses, other properties as well as standing crops. Locals said the fire had also affected a famous lake, ponds and wetlands in the area. Various NGOs and government bodies, including Tata Energy Research Institute (TERI), are conducting studies to assess impact of oil and gas leakage and fire on environment. --IANS sc/pcj
