As a result, pure petrol powered cars may not figure in the company's portfolio of cars in a decade. Already the company has stopped rolling out diesel powered cars. <keyword id="44883" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="maruti-suzuki" source="Orion">Maruti Suzuki</keyword> is also focusing on growing its sport utility vehicle portfolio and the market share in that segment. "Pure petrol powered cars may not be there in the company's product line up, say in 10 years time as the emission and fuel efficiency norms are getting tighter," Shashank Srivastava, Senior Executive Director, Marketing &amp; Sales told IANS. He said the new Corporate Average Fuel Economy or Efficiency (CAFA per cent) norms may come into place in 2032. Unlike the norms for the tailpipe emissions, the CAFA% norms are for a carmaker's entire portfolio. More the fuel efficiency of a car, the less the tailpipe emissions. As there is a limit on achieving higher fuel efficiency with the current technology, companies are looking at alternatives. While electric vehicles are one option, it is not viable for the entire automotive segment in India in the short term owing to issues like availability of charging infrastructure, vehicle price and its payback period and others. The other option is rolling out vehicles powered by mixed fuel -- ethanol plus petrol, hybrid, flexible fuel, CNG and the like. Be that as it may, Maruti Suzuki is gearing up for unveiling its first midsize petrol-electric hybrid SUV on July 20. The vehicle will be rolled out in two variants-mild and strong. Maruti Suzuki to discontinue petrol-powered cars in 10 years

Taxi aggregator <keyword id="6354720" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ola">Ola</keyword> today announced it add over 6,000 new CNG cars as Delhi's odd-even policy makes a comeback on April 15, 2016. This move will help Ola cash in the lucrative Delhi NCR market.<o:p></o:p>

	The company will invest Rs. 200 crores over the next six months to expand the CNG fleet in Delhi-NCR. The firm already has over 20,000 CNG cars on its platform in Delhi-NCR.<o:p></o:p>

	The company has partnered with car dealers from manufacturers including Maruti, Tata, Hyundai, Chevrolet, Nissan, among others. It also has financial institutions like SBI, IDBI and Shri Ram Finance onboard.<o:p></o:p>

	"We'll add 2,000 CNG cars every month to keep up with the demand for affordable mobility in the Capital", Anand Subramanian, Senior Director - Marketing Communications at Ola said.<o:p></o:p>

	In the past few months, Ola has been aggressively expanding the number of driver partners and CNG cars in Delhi-NCR post the crackdown on diesel taxis plying in the capital. Ola switched to CNG only in Delhi from September 2015.

Following the crackdown on diesel taxis in Delhi-NCR, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=ola">Ola</a> is increasing its fleet of <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=CNG+cars">CNG-fitted cabs</a>. 
 <keyword id="6354720" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ola">Ola</keyword>, which already has 20,000 CNG cars, will be adding over 5,000 cabs in coming weeks and infusing Rs 200 crore for the same. 
 
"Ola is planning to expand its <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=fleet+of+cab">fleet</a> of CNG cabs in Delhi by adding more than 5,000 cabs in the next one week. We have brought together car manufacturers, banks and financiers and valuation platforms to enable heavy discounts, loan offers and on spot valuation and exchange," said Ola COO Pranay Jivrajka. 
 
Ola is also giving lucrative offers to <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=drivers">drivers</a> of saving up to Rs 1.5 lakh on exchanging their old diesel vehicles for a new CNG one in next six months. 
 
"This is the largest amongst a series of programs rolled out by Ola to encourage CNG adoption in Delhi-NCR. By the next week, the intent is to ramp up by at least 25 per cent,” said Pranay. 
 
With over 3,50,000 vehicles registered on its platform, Ola offers services across 102 cities in India.

With the national capital’s <keyword id="71724" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="traffic-congestion">traffic congestion</keyword> problems and air quality issues, the consequences of this move may have ample environmental fallouts. Under the City Taxi Scheme 2017, cabs are only allowed to pick up and drop passengers from one point to the next. Currently legal provisions only allow buses to pick up other passengers along the route and make multiple stops. Even if individuals choose to pay more and opt for solo rides, the increased congestion on the road with more people using individual cars, will add to the time opportunity cost. That’s double the amount in Dakar, the second city on the list. The effect on the companies themselves is a different story. Recent reports <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/small-biz/startups/newsbuzz/uber-ola-enter-slow-lane-in-2018/articleshow/65927443.cms">indicate</a> that while the absolute number of rides have been increasing, the companies are now growing at a slower rate. Experts believe that one of the reasons is the focus on ride-sharing. The ban could either be good for the companies if customers shift to solo rides. Or, bad if customers choose to shift to public transport altogether or find other alternative means of transportation. Other issues on the table In reviewing the regulations for cabs in the Indian national capital, the committee is also discussing the issue of green fuels and permits. Possible outcomes include enforcing that cabs only use fuels like CNG or LPG and providing proof of parking before applying for a permit. The biggest development to come is probably the tracking of cabs. Currently, cabs in the city aren’t monitored as they pick up and drop passengers. But the committee is considering adding GPS monitoring to the roster, not only for cabs in Delhi but for cabs that are registered in other states while operating within the city. For actual customers, the issues of greater relevance are the ‘panic’ button that will soon become a mandatory feature in cabs and putting a cap on the maximum fare that companies can charge from customers. If the scheme also goes through with its plan of limiting the number of cabs that can be put on call by a cab operator, the demand-supply disparity might even increase the overall prices in the market. The committee, that includes the transport minister Kailash Gahlot and Satyender Jain, a minister at the Public Works Department, is currently reviewing the City Taxi Scheme 2017, Licensing and Regulation of App-based Cab Aggregator Rules 2017 and app-based premium bus services. Sources have told Times of <keyword id="3658" type="COUNTRY" weightage="20" keywordseo="India">India</keyword> that this the committee is unlikely to rule in the favour of companies being allowed to operate ride-sharing in Delhi. They were originally supposed to come to a decision on Monday, but that has now be deferred to a date that is yet to be decided.

The app-only cab aggregator had applied for the licence on June 1 and the permit typically takes 30-40 days to be granted. 
 "New Delhi is one of the top three cities for both <keyword id="6354720" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ola">Ola</keyword> and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=uber&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Uber</a>," ET quoted one of the sources as saying. 
 In July only, Ola got a licence to operate as an "on-demand transportation aggregator" in Bengaluru, whereas <keyword id="1042120" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Uber">Uber</keyword>'s application was rejected due to incomplete paperwork. 
 
"While Ola is trying to legalise its models to be on the right side of the government and investors, Uber is hitting the court with recommendations to the scheme and hoping to maintain the status quo till favourable regulations are passed," an official told ET.

Last year, the Delhi government had introduced the city taxi scheme, under which any one licence-holder cannot register more than 2,500 cars and needs to follow conditions such as installation of <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=GPS&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">GPS</a> devices, taxi meters and fare regulation. 
 
Also, licence-holder will have to ensure every taxi is a motor cab with a valid fitness certificate issued by the transport department, is driven on CNG, LPG, has an engine capacity of 600 cc and above and a seating capacity not exceeding seven, inclusive of the driver. 
 
"Already, both companies have created an incentive structure in a way that makes it impossible for drivers to work with both the companies. With the leasing model, both Ola and Uber want to secure supply," Jaspal Singh, cofounder of the transportation sector consultancy Valoriser Consultants, told ET.

In a recent blog post, <keyword id="6354720" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Ola">Ola</keyword>’s first full time employee and current Chief Operating Officer Ola COO <keyword id="2904207" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Pranay-Jivrajka">Pranay Jivrajka</keyword> has leveled serious charges against segment competitor Uber. He alleges the latter is fanning ‘a debate of nationalism to hide their identity of being a multi-national’. He also alleges the competition has ‘serial violations of law as an integral part of its business strategy’. 
 
In his post Jivrajka claims Ola has partnered with the Indian government, even at a ‘serious business expense’ to itself. He says the onus is on the business to work with the Government and evolve the ecosystem further in a partnership mode. Citing the example of Uber’s ‘card on file’ payment system and bike taxis in Gurgaon, Jivrajka claims the competition is running a business despite ‘multiple notices and seizures of hundreds of vehicles.’ 
 
The company executive goes on to say that while during the Delhi Diesel ban, Ola was committed to 100% CNG adoption, Uber continued to ply diesel vehicles with ‘absolute disregard for the state and the court of law’. 
 On Monday, Ola filed in the <keyword id="6371973" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Karnataka-High-Court">Karnataka High Court</keyword> saying that it has complied with all requirements to continue operating. This was to counter to a petition by rival <keyword id="2502101" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Uber-India">Uber India</keyword> which challenged the Karnataka On-Demand Transportation Technology Aggregator Rules, 2016. 
 
Ola said Uber’s petition is motivated in an “attempt to bypass the laws of the land by foreign companies who run their operations in this country for profit without due regard for the applicable laws”. 
 
Both Ola and Uber have been fighting a bloody price war to gain market share in India.

<ul><li>At a meeting of the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers, transport minister <keyword id="26680" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Nitin-gadkari">Nitin Gadkari</keyword> outlined a plan to make EVs comprise 15% of total vehicle sales in <keyword id="3658" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="India">India</keyword> in the next five years. </li><li>This is a significant jump from the 4% target announced by the government in May this year. </li><li>The government plans to boost EV sales by removing permit requirements and levying a modest rate of 12% on them under the GST regime. </li></ul>The Indian government wants you to know that it’s serious about mainstreaming electric vehicles (EVs) and reducing its reliance on oil imports. On September 6th, at a meeting of the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers, India’s ministers for transport and highways, Nitin Gadkari, announced that the government was aiming to make EVs comprise 15% of total vehicle sales in India within the next five years. In March 2018, it also announced a goal to make EVs account for 30% of all cars on Indian roads by 2030. Either way, making EV sales reach the 15% threshold by 2023 won’t be an easy task. <keyword id="381751" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Electric-vehicle">Electric vehicle</keyword> sales currently comprise a little over 1% iof all car sales in India. However, Gadkari outlined a few measures aimed at achieving this target. Firstly, electric vehicle owners won’t need road permits for their cars. The government has decided to exempt EVs and CNG vehicles from permit requirements in a bid to boost their sales. Secondly, EVs will be taxed at a rate of 12% under the GST without any further taxes. Thirdly, EVs that are imported for the purposes of testing will not exempt from duties. Additionally, government could also require ride-sharing services like Uber and Ola to have a certain amount of EVs in their fleet, a move that will be easier in the absence of permit restrictions. The Indian government will need to complement these measures with the establishment of adequate <keyword id="17408" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="infrastructure">infrastructure</keyword> like charging stations under its the National E-Mobility Programme. The news comes as a number of car manufacturers are looking to introduce EV models in the country. Through a proposed joint venture, Toyota and Suzuki reportedly plan to <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/industry/auto/auto-news/toyota-suzuki-revs-up-plan-to-roll-out-hybrid-electric-vehicles-here/articleshow/65693024.cms">launch four models</a> of electric or hybrid vehicles in India by 2021.
