About 17% of Nykaa’s gross merchandise value (GMV) are sold at full price or at a discount of 10% or lower. Nykaa’s fashion and beauty verticals will move further away from discounts, Adwaita Nayar added in the pre-IPO press conference. But it will be easier said than done. While Nykaa’s cosmetics business is facing competition from Walmart-owned Myntra, Purplle and few other players, its fashion vertical is pitted against e-commerce giants like Amazon, Flipkart, JioMart and more. "My RMs (relationship managers), based on grey-market premiums, were expecting the Zomato share to list between ₹85-90, as against an issue price of ₹76. I, however, was certain that it would do far better. When the share opened on the listing day at ₹116 per share, I mandated them to sell all my shares," he wrote. By the time the trade got executed, "I got a selling price of ₹136 per share. With my landing cost after interest being between ₹82-85, 1 ended up making over ₹2.25 crore," he said. "Within eight minutes of the Zomato IPO opening, I had made over ₹2.25 crore." Grover said that he became a little greedy post the Zomato IPO. "I went in for the Car Trade IPO but ended up losing ₹25 lakh there," he said. Grover, currently facing a court case filed by BharatPe that he co-founded, said that he was bullish on the Zomato IPO on several counts. "Of course, I knew of Deepinder (Goyal), and I am a big believer in his ability to persevere and keep building big. Fundamentally, with the pandemic the ticket size of their orders had grown, as people were ordering food from home for 3-4 members in the family, as against single rolls in office, thereby increasing Zomato's absolute margins," he wrote. The FIR, a copy of which has been seen by PTI, was filed under eight sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 406 that deals with criminal breach of trust, 420 (cheating and dishonesty), 467 and 468 (forgery). BharatPe in the complaint alleged that Grover and his family caused damages of about Rs 81.3 crore through illegitimate payments to bogus human resource consultants, inflated and undue payments through passthrough vendors connected to the accused, sham transactions in input tax credit and payment of penalty to GST authorities, illegal payment to travel agencies, forged invoices by Madhuri Jain and destruction of evidence. If convicted, Grover, Madhuri and others can face up to anything between 10 years to life imprisonment. EOW now has the power to arrest all the accused. BharatPe welcomed the registration of FIR saying, "For the last 15 months, the company has been facing a vicious and malicious campaign run by Grover against the company, the board and its employees". "The registration of the FIR is a step in the right direction, which unearths various suspicious transactions made by the family for their personal pecuniary gains," it said in a statement. The FIR, it said, will now enable law enforcement agencies to investigate deeper into the criminality and bring the culprits to books. "We have full faith in our country's judicial and law enforcement systems and are optimistic that this case will reach its logical conclusion. We will continue to extend all possible cooperation to the authorities," it added. In December 2022, BharatPe filed a criminal complaint against Grover and his family with the EOW of Delhi Police, alleging fraud of Rs 81.28 crore, criminal breach of trust, conspiracy, cheating, forgery and destruction of evidence. The same month, it also filed a civil suit with the Delhi High Court against its former MD and co-founder Grover and his family, seeking up to Rs 88.67 crore in damages for alleged cheating and embezzlement of funds. The suit, running into 2,800 pages, alleges that Grover, his wife Madhuri Jain and other family members created fake bills, enlisted fictitious vendors to provide services to the company and overcharged the company for recruitment. Madhuri Jain was the head of controls at BharatPe and was fired earlier in 2022 after a forensic audit revealed several irregularities. Subsequently, Ashneer Grover resigned as CEO in March 2022. BharatPe, last year, hit the headlines when Grover was accused of using inappropriate language and threatening a Kotak Group employee for failing to secure an allotment and funding for the Nykaa IPO for himself and his wife Madhuri Jain Grover. Thereafter, BharatPe appointed Alvarez and Marsal, Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas and PwC to conduct a corporate governance review and determine whether Grover had committed willful misconduct. This led to the ouster of Jain and Grover from the company and its board in March. On May 10, 2022, BharatPe said that after the detailed review, the company had decided to take steps against employees involved in misconduct and claw back Ashneer Grover's restricted shares. "The complaint was received at EOW and enquiry has been conducted into the allegations levelled against alleged persons. From the contents of the complaint and enquiry conducted so far, prima-facie offences punishable under Sections 406/408/ 409/420/467/468/471/120B IPC (Indian penal code) are made out," the FIR copy reads. BharatPe had filed an arbitration claim in Singapore to claw back restricted shares (1.4 per cent) allotted to Grover and prevent him from using the title of a founder. In January this year, Koladiya sued Grover reclaiming the shares transferred in December 2018. Last month, the company's co-founder <keyword id="10222571" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="shashvat-nakrani" source="Orion">Shashvat Nakrani</keyword> sued Grover over "unpaid shares". FIR against BharatPe co-founder Ashneer Grover, his wife, family

Automobile maker Tata Motors' subsidiary Tata Passenger Electric Mobility on Monday signed a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with <keyword id="106216" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ford-india" source="Orion">Ford India</keyword> and the government of Gujarat for takeover of Ford's passenger vehicle manufacturing facility at Sanand. The MoU included land and buildings; vehicle manufacturing plant; machinery and equipment; and besides transfer of all eligible employees of Ford India's Sanand's vehicle manufacturing operations, subject to the signing of definitive agreements and receipt of relevant approvals, the automaker said in a regulatory filing. The Ford India vehicle manufacturing site at Sanand is a state-of-the-art site. Tata Motors' arm would invest into new machinery and equipment which is necessary to commission and make the unit ready to produce its vehicles. With the proposed investments, it would establish an installed capacity of 300,000 units per annum, which would be scalable to more than 400,000 units, the filing said, adding it would take a few months time. Notably, the unit is adjacent to the existing manufacturing facility of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles at Sanand, which it believes will help in a smooth transition. "Tata Motors has had a strong presence in Gujarat for more than a decade with its own manufacturing facility at Sanand. This MoU further reinforces our commitment to the state by creating more employment and business opportunities. Rising customer preference for passenger and electric vehicles made by Tata Motors has led to a multi-fold growth for the company over the past few years," said Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility. This potential transaction will support expansion of capacity, thus securing future growth and opportunity to further strengthen the company's position in the passenger and electric vehicles space, Chandra said. The MoU will be followed by signing of the definitive transaction agreements between Tata Motors' arm and Ford India over the next few weeks, the filing added. Tata Motors to acquire Ford's manufacturing unit in Gujarat

A scientist of Indian origin has been identified by <keyword id="4912868" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="moderna" source="Orion">Moderna</keyword> as the primary contributor to its <keyword id="8904563" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Covid-19-vaccine" source="Orion">Covid-19 vaccine</keyword>. A filing by the company for its patent application for the coronavirus vaccine using the revolutionary RNA technique listed Pune-educated <keyword id="12503074" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="bioinformatics-scientist-Mihir-Metkar" source="Orion">bioinformatics scientist Mihir Metkar</keyword> as the "first named inventor", a designation that usually recognises the primary contributor to the invention. He is also listed as one of the inventors in two other Covid-19 vaccine patent applications by Moderna to the US Patent Office. Moderna's is of the new class of vaccines that use what is called messenger RNA (mRNA) that cause the body to create some proteins similar to that in the Covid-19 virus and trigger the body's immune system to make antibodies that will fight the coronavirus if it invades the body. (Conventional vaccines use either dead viruses or parts of them or a modified version of the gene of a different virus.) Metkar's identification as the "first named inventor" is in the document filed by Moderna to dispute the US government's National Institutes of Health (NIH) assertion that its scientists should also be credited as inventors of the vaccine, which was developed in collaboration with it and with $1.53 billion provided by the administration of former President Donald Trump under the Operation Warp Speed programme to quickly produce vaccines. Vladimir Presnyak and Guillaume Stewart-Jones are listed after him in the original application for the patent. Metkar received his MSc degree from the Institute of Bioinformatics and Biotechnology at the Savitribai Phule Pune University and worked at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) in Pune as a project assistant before coming to the United States, according to his LinkedIn profile. He did his PhD at the RNA Therapeutics Institute at the University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester and worked there as a post-doctoral fellow, before joining Moderna in 2018, the profile said. In a separate patent filing, Moderna listed Sunny Himansu, who has an MBBS degree, as one of the two inventors of the Betacoronavirus Vaccine. Moderna's vaccine is one of the two main vaccines in the US and about 164 million doses of it have been given so far in the US, according to the Centers for Disease Control. In addition, millions of people have been vaccinated in Europe and elsewhere with the Moderna vaccine. The other main vaccine used in the US is the Pfizer-Biontech, which was developed in Germany and uses mRNA. A third vaccine from Johson &amp; Johnson is also used in the US. It was developed by J&amp;J's Jansen Pharmaceutical, whose global head of research and development is Mathai Mammen. The patent document naming Metkar as the "first named inventor" was filed on behalf of Moderna by an intellectual property law firm asserted that the three NIH scientists who collaborated with them should not be considered co-inventors as the NIH has asked. If the NIH scientists are recognised as co-inventors, the NIH and the government may be entitled to receive a share of royalties from the use of the patents and also be able to allow others to make the vaccine. An NGO, Public Citizen, has pointed out in a letter to the head of the NIH that co-ownership of the patent "can empower the US government to authorise" other manufacturers around the world to use some of the patents to make the vaccine. The group said that with "huge gaps in global vaccine access" the need for the government to exercise control over the vaccine technology "only grows more urgent".
