New Delhi, Feb 21 () Consumer healthcare firm Strides Consumer on Friday said it has forayed into North Indian market with oral nicotine replacement therapy and topical analgesic segments. The company currently has strong presence in states like Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha and Assam. "We have forayed in the market in North as it is a large market in terms of size and consumers here are quite open to trying new products," Strides Consumer Pvt Ltd CEO Subodh Marwah told . The company plans to expand its presence in western region too, he added. "The expansion into the new geographic sphere testifies our vision to take our brand and products to every customer in the nation," Marwah said. As part of the foray, the company has launched two products -- Nixit, a oral nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) product, and Jointflex, a topical analgesic cream for joint care, Strides Consumer said. Started in 2017, Strides Consumer Pvt Ltd has two marquee investors -- India Life Sciences Fund, which holds around 74 per cent stake in the company, and Strides Pharma Science Ltd with the balance stake of around 26 per cent. Many parts in the Himalayas have seen one of the heaviest snowfall episodes in the past few years. Its effect is being felt across North India and even in the southern states of Maharashtra and Telangana, which have seen colder temperatures. Temperatures dipped below zero in some parts of Rajasthan, which is only the fourth time in the last decade that has been seen, said Mahesh Palawat, vice president of Meteorology and Climate Change at Skymet. “Until February, we expect more active western disturbances,” said Palawat, adding that will likely result in an extended winter in North India. India has already seen six instances of western disturbances so far, increasing both in frequency and intensity, noted Palawat. Western disturbances are caused due to winds travelling from West to East and usually travel in the “upper latitudes” over Kazakhstan and Russia. This year, these disturbances -- usually seen during winter months -- have been pushed south because of the polar vortex currently sweeping North America and Europe. A polar vortex is a narrow band of freezing air which rotates in an anti-clockwise direction during the winters on the North Pole. It can expand or break when it encounters a temperature difference, which pushes down icy winds towards North America and parts of Europe. This year, the pushing down of the polar vortex is in effect “transmitting the cold from Southern Europe to North India,” D Sivananda Pai, a senior official with India’s Meteorological Department (IMD) told <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/arctic-cold-blast-impacting-north-indias-winter-met/articleshow/67748314.cms">Times of India.</a>

Expressways In West & North-west India

Strong <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=earthquake&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">earthquake </a>of 5.8 magnitude rattled Uttarakhand and tremors were also felt in Delhi-NCR. 
 
The tremors were felt across northern India just past 10:33 pm. 
 
As per the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=imd&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">India Meteorological Department</a> (IMD), epicentre was in the mountain state's Rudraprayag District. 
 
The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) and United States Geological Service (USGS) have located the epicentre close to Pipalkoti. 
 
The resultant tremors were felt across northern India, and were reported to have lasted over 30 seconds in some places. 
 
Tremors were reported from Delhi-NCR, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Agra and a number of other places.

5.8 magnitude earthquake hits north India, rattles Delhi-NCR

New Delhi, Mar 2 () Dutch firm Royal DSM, plans to introduce its pre-mixed micro-nutrient daily home fortifier 'Nu-Shakti' in north India soon. Nu-Shakti is a first of its kind product category that is based on home fortification to enhance essential nutrients and vitamins without altering taste, odour or appearance of their daily food. Currently, Nu-Shakti products -- fortified rice and wheat flour kernels, fortified orange-flavoured beverage mix; and vitamins and mineral mix -- are being sold in Tamil Nadu alone. "It's been six months since we launched Nu-Shakti. We are still in a pilot stage and present only in Tamil Nadu right now. However, we are evaluating other markets in north India. We will finalise one of the northern states for the launch in a month,' DSM India Business Director Alok Kohli told . The product was first launched in Tamil Nadu because the severe acute malnutrition (SAM) in children under age of five in the state was higher than the national average of 7.5 per cent, as per the National Family Health Survey, Kohli said. The fortified rice and atta kernels products are available at Rs 5 per sachet at present. The company has sold around 5,00,000 packs of these products so far and going forward the figures are expected to rise with increased awareness about fortification, he said. Kohli explained one sachet of fortified rice kernel is sufficient to mix with one kilo of traditional rice. It can be mixed with rice before cooking and store it else can be used while cooking rice. The same is for fortified atta (wheat flour) kernel. To address malnutrition in the country, the central government is working on a pilot scheme to sell fortified rice to the poor through ration shops at a subsidised rate. Founded in 1902, DSM Group has annual net sales of about 10 billion euro with approximately 23,000 employees and is listed on Euronext Amsterdam. LUX DRR
