The proposed Initial Public Offering (<keyword id="19898327" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="IPO" source="keywords">IPO</keyword>) is a combination of fresh issuance of equity shares worth Rs 800 crore and an offer for sale of up to Rs 2,200 crore by a promoter and an investor shareholder, according to the Draft Red Herring Prospectus (DRHP). Under the OFS, investor Fettle Tone LLP will sell shares to the tune of Rs 1,880 crore and promoter Bupa Singapore Holdings Pte Ltd will offload shares valued Rs 320 crore. Niva Bupa is majorly controlled by Bupa, an international healthcare company headquartered in the UK. At present, Bupa Singapore Holdings Pte owns 62.27 per cent stake while Fettle Tone LLP holds 27.86 per cent stake in the insurance firm. The company, in its draft papers filed on Saturday, said it may consider issuing securities worth up to Rs 160 crore as a part of "pre-IPO placement". If such placement is completed, the fresh issue size will be reduced. The company intends to utilise the net proceeds from the fresh issuance to the extent of Rs 625 crore towards boosting its capital base to strengthen solvency levels, besides a portion will be used for general corporate purposes. This will be the second standalone health insurer looking to float an IPO, after Star Health &amp; Allied Insurance Company. Niva Bupa Health Insurance Company is one of the leading standalone retail health insurers (SAHI) in India, with a Gross Direct Written Premium (GDPI) of Rs 5,499.43 crore in fiscal 2024. The insurance firm's Gross Written Premium (GWP) increased by 37.68 per cent to Rs 5,607.57 crore in fiscal 2024 from Rs 4,073.03 crore in fiscal 2023. Further, profit after surged to Rs 81.85 crore in fiscal 2024 from Rs 12.54 crore in fiscal 2023. As of March 31, 2024, the company has 210 physical branches across 22 states and 4 union territories in India. ICICI Securities, Morgan Stanley India Company, Kotak Mahindra Capital Company, Axis Capital, HDFC Bank and Motilal Oswal Investment Advisors are the book-running lead managers to the offer. The equity shares are proposed to be listed on the BSE and NSE. The telco will join its competitors, Bharti Airtel and Vi, which are already public. According to a<a href="https://www.reuters.com/world/india/ambanis-reliance-jio-ipo-set-2025-retail-debut-much-later-sources-say-2024-11-04/"> report</a> by Reuters, Reliance Jio is expected to go public in 2025 and the IPO for the retail arm is planned later. Reliance Industries has raised over $25 billion for the company’s digital, telecom and retail businesses from investors like KKR, Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, General Atlantic and more. <h2>Reliance <keyword id="6059106" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="jio-ipo" source="Orion">Jio IPO</keyword> to be India’s biggest</h2>Existing rules state that companies that are valued at ₹1 lakh crore or more need to sell at least 5% of total shares during an IPO. Jio is currently valued at $112 billion (₹9.42 lakh crore) as per Jefferies. A 5% stake sale would put the IPO at around ₹47,100 crore, beating the recently concluded IPO of Hyundai Motor India, which raised ₹27,870.16 crore. <h2>Retail IPO further away</h2>While no timeline has been mentioned, the retail arm’s IPO has reportedly been pushed further away, as the company feels it needs to address internal business and operational challenges. Not only this, the company reportedly wants to avoid two big IPOs hitting the Dalal street in the same year. With Jio’s IPO planned for 2025, we might see the retail arm going public in 2026 or later. Reliance Retail operates over 3,000 supermarkets and also deals in the e-commerce segment. The company feels the retail arm has grown “too fast” and needs some stability before the IPO. Reliance Jio IPO – India’s biggest telco to go public in 2025, retail IPO further away

As we approach the festive season, India's primary market is set to remain abuzz with action, with a slew of IPOs coming the investor's way. More than 12 companies will debut on the bourses in the next 2 months, looking to raise around Rs 60,000 crore in total. Prominent names among them include food delivery giant <keyword id="19896956" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Swiggy" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Swiggy" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Swiggy">Swiggy</keyword>, automobile giant <keyword id="19906087" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hyundai" source="keywords">Hyundai</keyword> and more. Apart from these companies, <keyword id="20599931" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="NTPC-Green-Energy" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="NTPC Green Energy" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="NTPC Green Energy">NTPC Green Energy</keyword>, Afcons Infrastructure, Waaree Energies, Niva Bupa Health Insurance, One Mobikwik Systems, and Garuda Construction will also be bringing about their IPOs in the months to come. As per reports, the Indian markets can expect around 30 <keyword id="19898327" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="IPO" source="keywords">IPO</keyword>s before the end of 2024. The biggest of the lot will be of Hyundai Motor India Ltd, the Indian subsidiary of South Korea's Hyundai Motor Company, which is expected to raise Rs 25,000 crore, making it the largest-ever IPO in India to date. This record was previously held by LIC (Life Insurance Corporation of India), which had raised about Rs 21,000 crore via its IPO in 2022. However, the automobile giant's issue will entirely be an OFS (Offer for Sale) of about 14,21,94,700 shares by Hyundai Motor Company, and will not have any fresh issue involved. Food and grocery delivery giant Swiggy is targeting to raise Rs 10,414 crore via a combination of fresh issue and OFS. The Rs 10,000-crore IPO of NTPC Green Energy is also set to come in the first week of November. Following them on heels will be the IPOs of construction firm Afcons Infrastructure, which will look to raise Rs 7,000 crore. Waaree Energies is expected to raise Rs 3,000 crores via its IPO. Additionally, Niva Bupa Health Insurance and One Mobikwik Systems are also planning to raise Rs 3,000 crore and Rs 700 crore, respectively. <h2>Positioning oneself in this IPO Euphoria </h2>So far in 2024, 62 companies have already raised Rs 64,000 crore collectively via mainboard, marking a 29% increase from Rs 49,436 crore, which were mopped up by 57 firms through the IPO route in 2023. More than 50 companies have already filed their draft papers, and are now awaiting market regulator SEBI's approval. IPO prospects for 2025 aren't looking dull either, with SEBI already approving 22 IPOs, which will collectively look to raise Rs 25,000 crore. Amidst this IPO frenzy, how can you position yourself in the best possible manner? Should you subscribe to an IPO for the long-term, or should you sell post earning listing gains? Per a recent SEBI study, which studied investor behavior over 144 IPOs listed on bourses between April 2021 and December 2023, if an IPOs listing returns exceeded 20%, investors are likely to sell around 67.6% of shares by value within just a week. On the contrary, if the returns were negative, only 23.3% of shares by value were sold off. Sarvjeet Singh Virk, Co-founder &amp; MD, Shoonya by Finvasia observes that most <keyword id="19972907" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="retail-investors" source="keywords">retail investors</keyword> are mainly attracted to the listing gains of the IPO, while ignoring the fundamentals of the companies floating the IPOs. "Mindlessly investing without evaluating the valuations and fundamentals of any business can be highly risky. Also, investing solely on the basis of gray market premiums is yet again, undesirable. Recently, NSE has capped the pre-opening price surge to 90% to discourage investors who are investing only for listing gains. However, this is applicable only for SME IPOs, and not mainboard ones", he continues. Reading the company's DRHP or RHP can be a good starting point to understand why the company wishes to raise funds in the first place. It can also help you understand its long-term objectives. Another good parameter is to check how its peers are performing in the markets, as compared to it. Also evaluate if the company have a steady track record of profitability and revenue growth. Check for the shareholding pattern of the company, pre and post IPO. Is there a fresh issue, or is the IPO entirely OFS (offer for sale), where promotors are offloading their stake in the company? While most IPOs are a mix of the two, heavy selloff of promoter stakes should be construed as a red sign.

With just 2 days to go before finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman presents the union budget 2024, various sectors are abuzz with their expectations from the first full fledged budget to be presented under PM Modi's third consecutive term. Most experts anticipate the budget to focus heavily on boosting consumer demand and accelerating infrastructure development. In fact, president Murmu has already hinted that the budget will be historic, both in its scope and announcements. As such, what is it that the Indian insurance industry, driven by IRDA's vision of "Insurance for all by 2047" want from this budget? Lets find out <h2>Capture the <keyword id="21409017" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="annuity-market" source="keywords">annuity market</keyword> </h2>Subhrajit Mukhopadhyay, Executive Director, Edelweiss <keyword id="19936531" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="life-insurance" source="keywords">Life Insurance</keyword> anticipates that the upcoming budget should tackle the issue of how annuities are taxed. Currently, they are completely taxable in the hands of customers, which reduce its attractiveness, vis a vis other retirement planning options like NPS (National Pension System). According to a recent report by UNFPA, the population of number of individuals in the country who are aged 60 or more is set to double to around 346 million in the next 30 years. As such, it becomes all the more important to create awareness regarding retirement planning, and ensuring the aged have a secure, stable source of income in their twilight years, which is where annuities come in. "India’s vast ageing population underlines its burgeoning pension and annuity market. Annuity caters to the key dilemma of a pensioner, for a life-long pension at a steady, guaranteed rate and exposes the investors to a reinvestment rate risk especially in a volatile interest rate scenario. Annuities are the only solution, which provide complete protection from the perspective of living longer (i.e. outliving one’s corpus), by providing a regular flow of income throughout one’s lifetime, purchased in lieu of a single lump-sum amount. Currently, tax incentive is offered for people to accumulate corpus in NPS under Section 80CCD (1b ). A similar incentive may also be extended to annuities", noted Mukhopadhyay <h2>Separate sops for <keyword id="19894985" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="health-insurance" source="keywords">health insurance</keyword> premiums </h2>One of the most vocal demands of the insurance industry at the moment is to increase the tax deduction limit for premiums paid towards life and health insurance. At present, individuals aged below 60 can claim an annual deduction of up to Rs 25,000 towards health insurance premiums paid for self, spouse or children. The limit goes up to Rs 50,000 in case of senior citizens. Mr. Rakesh Goyal, Managing Director, Probusinsurance.com hopes that the budget will raise this limit to Rs 50,000 for self, spouse, and children, and Rs 1 lakh for senior citizens. Anup Rau Managing Director &amp; Chief Executive Officer of Future Generali India Insurance Company Limited, agrees to this. “Making insurance products affordable and accessible to masses will be crucial to ensure India achieves “Insurance for All by 2047” – a goal set by IRDAI - and this calls for certain <keyword id="20071222" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tax-incentives" source="keywords">tax incentives</keyword>. The deduction limit on health insurance premium under Section 80D has remained unchanged for the past nine years despite the fact that there has been a significant rise in healthcare costs across the country. Interestingly, India, which surpasses South Asian peers with a medical inflation rate of 14%, last witnessed an enhancement in the deduction limit in 2015-16. Also, these benefits need to be extended to the new tax regime as well since increasing health <keyword id="20998941" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="insurance-penetration" source="keywords">insurance penetration</keyword> is critical", he adds. Goyal goes a step ahead, and advocates for creating a separate exemption limit for insurance premiums, in addition to the existing threshold of Rs 1,50,000. "Right now, Indians get a tax exemption of Rs 1.5 lakh every year, but it's crowded with various financial products. We would expect the limit to increase or to establish a separate exemption limit specifically for life insurance premiums. This move would help increase countrywide insurance penetration", says Goyal. Krishnan Ramachandran, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (MD&amp;CEO) of Niva Bupa Health Insurance also advocates for the 80D tax exemption to be linked to inflation and revised periodically. Also, per him, tax exemptions should also extend to dependent family members like siblings. Syed Meraj Naqvi,CEO &amp; Principal Officer, Riskbirbal Insurance Brokers also thinks on similar lines. "Adding a portion of medical insurance premiums for tax relief alongside the current 1,50,000 deduction limit would not only ease financial burdens but also encourage the younger generation to embrace saving habits. It’s about nurturing a mindset of financial responsibility while ensuring adequate healthcare coverage for all", he notes. Parimal Heda, Chief Investment Officer, Go Digit General Insurance believes that a good way to increase insurance coverage amongst young individuals is by offering a significant tax discount. "This could also be considered particularly for first-time health insurance buyers, especially youngsters. A tax exemption of 200% of the premium amount can be considered under chapter VIA. This can later be reduced in a phased manner of four years to make the same at par with the existing tax benefit provided under Section 80D", Heda observes. <h2>Don't overlook home, vehicle insurance </h2>Even though motor insurance, which makes up for around 50% of the non-life insurance industry (sans health) grew at around 12.9% in FY24, touching Rs 91,781.3 crore, over 50% of vehicles don’t even have a third-party (TP) motor insurance. To counter this, Heda suggests a one-time tax exemption can be offered to people to renew their lapsed TP policy. Additionally, given the increasing frequency of natural calamities adversely impacting human property, it is necessary to increase home insurance penetration to protect homeowners. Per Heda, the government, with the help of RERA can make home insurance mandatory for new homeowners, for which a tax deduction of up to Rs 25,000 can also be considered on home insurance premiums. However, a word of advice. Do not wait for tax breaks, or budget announcements to buy a life, or health insurance in case you already don't have one. Get one right away!

If a policyholder wants it, this sheet should be available in their local language. The sheet should use a font size that's at least 12" (in Arial) or bigger to make it easy to read. For example some policies may have certain sublimits or room rent restrictions, which will be listed transparently in a simple form in one particular place. “We send all these details to the customer but it is in a policy schedule form which is slightly legal,” adds Nerukar. Agrees, Dr. S. Prakash, chairperson, Health Committee, General Insurance Council. “The CIS can be very handy and useful and prevent any delay when a claim is processed.” Given that many policy wordings contain technical jargons and legal language, customers may face challenges in comprehension. “Easy to understand CIS will help address common customer queries and understand their policy benefits as well as limitations better, so that it leaves no room for any confusion during policy holding or claim processing,” says Bhabatosh Mishra, director, claims, underwriting and product, Niva Bupa, a <keyword id="135638" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="health-insurance-company" source="Orion">health insurance company</keyword>. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Necessary information access made easy" comment="Subhead" text="Necessary information access made easy">Necessary information access made easy</cmsannotation> When sending out the main policy document, there should be a note that tells policyholders where to find the CIS, so they can always refer to it when they need to understand their policy better. Health insurance information to be made available in a simple and lucid form from January 1

<ul><li><keyword id="635172" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="irdai" source="Orion">IRDAI</keyword> has issued a directive to all <keyword id="114713" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="insurance-companies" source="Orion">insurance companies</keyword>, earlier this fiscal, instructing them to provide coverage for the expenses related to surrogacy. </li><li>The policy should cover all medical expenses related to pregnancy and delivery, as well as postpartum care for the <keyword id="23767" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="surrogate-mother" source="Orion">surrogate mother</keyword>. </li><li>The responsibility of acquiring this surrogacy <keyword id="35492" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="insurance-policy" source="Orion">insurance policy</keyword> falls upon the intending parents or individual seeking surrogacy. </li></ul>Surrogacy is a medical process in which a woman agrees to carry and deliver a baby for another couple or individual. The <keyword id="41477" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="surrogate" source="Orion">surrogate</keyword> mother is typically implanted with an embryo created by using the intended parents' sperm and egg. Once the baby is born, the surrogate mother's legal rights to the child are terminated, and the intended parents become the child's legal parents. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="What the law says" comment="Subhead" text="What the law says">What the law says</cmsannotation> In the Surrogacy (Regulation) Rules 2022, there is a provision that highlights the necessity of mandatory insurance coverage. It specifies that the intending woman or couple must acquire a general health insurance policy in favour of the surrogate mother. This insurance policy should have a duration of 36 months and should be obtained from an insurance company or an agent recognized by Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI). The coverage amount should be substantial enough to address all expenses related to pregnancy complications, as well as postpartum delivery complications. Recently, IRDAI has issued a directive to all insurance companies, instructing them to provide coverage for the expenses related to surrogacy. “Let us say a couple is covered under a family floater policy. That couple decides to go for surrogacy as they have some medical issue and they are not able to conceive. If they decide to go for surrogacy, they should be able to buy a cover for the surrogate mother,” says Bhaskar Nerurkar, head, health administration team, Bajaj Allianz General Insurance. Hence, every health insurance company should bring in such a cover. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Coverage under the surrogacy policy" comment="Subhead" text="Coverage under the surrogacy policy">Coverage under the surrogacy policy</cmsannotation> This surrogacy policy offers a broad range of medical coverage, including antenatal care and checkups, hospitalisation and delivery charges, treatment for pregnancy complications like preeclampsia, gestational diabetes, and premature labour, postpartum care, and treatment for delivery complications, and medical conditions that may arise as a result of the surrogacy procedure. “The couple may have maternity cover under their health insurance policy. The maternity expenses are only covered for the spouse. But in this case the surrogate mother is going to get admitted. So this surrogacy cover will cover maternity expenses and any other expenses related to delivery complications,” says Nerurkar. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="What to know" comment="Subhead" text="What to know">What to know</cmsannotation> The responsibility of acquiring this surrogacy insurance policy falls upon the intending parents or individual seeking surrogacy. It is crucial to purchase the policy from an insurance company registered with IRDAI and to do so before the embryo transfer procedure takes place. “If I am a surrogate mother, the expectation is that the biological parent should buy the policy for me,”says Bhabatosh Mishra, director, claims, underwriting and product, Niva Bupa, a health insurance company. The funding round was led by the <keyword id="1717786" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="rajiv-dadlani" source="Orion">Rajiv Dadlani</keyword> group and also saw participation from Blume Ventures, Leo Capital, a US-based impact fund, reputed family offices and high-networth individuals. The company plans to deploy these funds to enhance its products, strengthen distribution, sharpen its OPD insurance network and invest in technology. OPD, or outpatient, insurance refers to the insurance cover for healthcare treatments that do not involve hospitalisations. HealthAssure says it has built a health maintenance organisation (HMO) ecosystem of primary care over the last 10 years across 1,200 cities. It also claims to be the first to launch innovative insurance-underwritten OPD products. It ‘productises’ or creates innovative products for health seekers and distributes them through diversified channels. The company claims that the total addressable market of this business is $3 billion. The company has so far raised ₹220 million in funding and more recently also acquired fitness startup FitMeIn. “Raising our largest round yet in such difficult market conditions, displays the confidence which our existing and new investors have in our unique business model and the potential of the large healthcare market ripe for disruption,” said Varun Gera, founder and CEO of HealthAssure. The company, which launched operations in 2011, has serviced more than 3 million customers. It has several lines of businesses serving insurers like LIC, SBI Life, Niva Bupa, Care Insurance and ICICI Prudential for their primary care needs.
