He was sworn in as a cabinet minister just a few days ago along with Chief Minister <keyword id="6358190" type="DEFINITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Nitish-Kumar">Nitish Kumar</keyword>. Chaudhary met Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Wednesday. An hour after assuming office on Thursday, he resigned as education minister. Earlier on Thursday, Chaudhary had assumed charge of the education ministery. The opposition has been attacking the government over allegation of corruptions against the education minister ever since his name was announced. JD (U) General Secretary K.C. Tyagi said, "Nitish Kumar's identity is a leader with a difference in politics," Tyagi said. "Democracy runs on ethics and public morality. That is why, since allegations of corruption have been levelled against him, he has resigned from the post of education minister." It may be recalled that the RJD has been attacking the CM about the appointment. on Wednesday, Tejashwi Yadav had taken to Twitter to say. Nitish Kumar's choice for education minister resigns within hours of taking office on the back of corruption charges

"Under the current situation it's not possible for me to continue with the government. I tried to find a solution. "Inspite of our repeated pleas, Modiji hasn't retracted his derogatory remarks on our DNA. We're going to launch a ' shabd wapasi' campaign against him," tweeted Kumar. 
 
The chief minister added that 50 lakh people from Bihar would be a part of 'shabdwapasi' signature campaign and would be sending DNA sample test to Modi. 
 
While addressing a rally in Muzaffarpur on July 25, Modi remembered the way Kumar had invited him to dinner and later cancelled the invitation. 
 
Modi said that Kumar had not only disrespected him but also a 'mahadalit' like former Chief Minister <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=jitan+ram+manjhi">Jitan Ram Manjhi</a>. 
 
"There seems to be some problem in his DNA because the DNA of democracy is not like that. In democracy you respect even your political rivals," Modi had said at the rally.

Nitish Kumar asks PM Modi to take back his ‘DNA’ remark again

The <keyword id="6358190" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Nitish-Kumar">Nitish Kumar</keyword> government today decided to impose 13.5 per cent tax on <keyword id="145850" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="luxury-items">luxury items</keyword> including sweets priced more than Rs 500 a kg and mosquito repellant among others to mop up additional revenue for carrying development work. 
 
Decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of state cabinet presided over by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in Patna. 
 
Briefing about cabinet decisions, Principal Secretary, Cabinet Coordination Department, Brajesh Mehrotra told reporters that 13.5 per cent tax would be imposed on sweets priced more than Rs 500 a kg. 
 
He said 13.5 per cent tax would be taken on salty items like <keyword id="83759" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="samosa">samosa</keyword>, kachauri and branded namkin among others. 
 
Sale of all kind of UPS would attract 13.5 per cent tax, Mehrotra said, adding, similar rate of tax would be imposed on auto parts and battery parts. 
 
Sand, cosmetic items, scent and hair oil would also attract 13.5 per cent tax, he added. 
 
The Bihar cabinet put its seal of approval on 23 proposals of different departments. 
 
The cabinet decided to waive off entertainment tax on the movie "Chalk N Duster" which gives a strong social message. 
 
The Nitish Kumar cabinet also decided to consider in future on providing Non Professional Allowance to doctors and those in teaching faculty in medical colleges and super speciality hospitals in a bid to ban their private practise.

Nitish Kumar-led JD(U)'s grand alliance has won the Elections in Bihar.The party won 178 out of 243 seats, and BJP won just 58.

"Most of us feel these statements have gone beyond questioning my own descent. They have disrespected the lineage of our people and denigrated the great legacy of the state," the letter stated. 
 
"This also gives credence to the feeling that perhaps you and your party hold a prejudice against the people of Bihar. I wonder how come the gravity of such statements repeatedly miss your alert conscience," said Kumar. 
 
Kumar said Modi’s comment was unbecoming of the office he holds. 
 
"I have no doubt that this gesture of yours (withdrawing the DNA remark) would go a long way in assuaging the sentiments of people and would further enhance the respect people have for you," he said. 
 
Modi is likely to address a rally in Gaya on August 9. 
 
Kumar also reminded Modi that this was not the first time such remarks were made by <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=BJP">BJP</a> leaders. 
 
"Earlier, your colleague and BJP leader Nitin Gadkari had said that casteism is in the DNA of Bihar. Interestingly, these are the same people who reposed their faith in you and contributed towards electing you to the highest office of the country with an overwhelming majority," he added.

Bihar CM Nitish Kumar raises objection on Modi’s ‘DNA’ remark, writes open letter to him

"We have written to the Election Commission drawing attention towards the extremely slow pace of counting. Only 3-4 lakh votes have been counted till afternoon in most seats in Bihar where, on an average, about 10 lakh people have exercised their franchise in each constituency," said Jha. "We are confident that as the counting progresses, in many seats where we are trailing by slender margins, the picture will change. But we urge the Election Commission to carry out the exercise as per the rule book and not act on any telephone calls they may be getting from Delhi," said the Rajya Sabha MP, who has been alleging that the poll panel has often acted under pressure from the ruling BJP at the Centre. "To all our cadres in the INDIA coalition, I would appeal not to let their guard down. Counting may continue till late in the evening. We must remain vigilant," said Jha. Among the INDIA constituents in Bihar, RJD had contested 23 seats, out of which it was trailing in all but four, while Congress, which got nine seats, was leading in two. From the next financial year, alcohol will be banned in Bihar, as announced by the state’s Chief Minister <keyword id="6358190" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Nitish-Kumar">Nitish Kumar</keyword>. He has done so after he had promised a group of angry women about the same, at an event in July. Reportedly, the women were angry over the alarming addiction to country liquor in Bihar villages. 
 
"In 1977-78 we tried to impose prohibition but it was not effective. But I feel women are suffering more than others (because of alcohol abuse)... I have instructed my officials to start working towards this and implement this from the next financial year," Mr Kumar said at a function. 
 
After his swearing in as Bihar’s Chief Minister last week, this is his first major announcement. However, one can’t be sure if alcohol would be completely banned or the ban would be restricted to just country liquor. 
 
Talking of the income through alcohol, last year Bihar government earned nearly Rs. 3,500 crore through taxes on the sale of alcohol. How and when this loss of revenue would be covered up is yet to be known. 
 
Other Indian states where alcohol is banned are Gujarat, Nagaland, Manipur and Lakshwadeep. Last year, Kerela too had announced its aim to be alcohol-free within 10 years.

Banned: Alcohol in Bihar to be banned April 2016 onwards, CM Nitish Kumar announces

Patna, Bihar Chief Minister <keyword id="19907431" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="nitish-kumar" source="keywords">Nitish Kumar</keyword> owns assets worth Rs 1.64 crore, according to his latest public disclosure. According to details of the assets of the chief minister and his cabinet colleagues posted on the <keyword id="20021772" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="cabinet-secretariat-department" source="keywords">Cabinet Secretariat Department</keyword>'s website on Sunday evening, Kumar has Rs 22,552 in cash, and deposits of Rs 49,202 in different bank accounts. He also has a Ford Ecosport car worth Rs 11.32 lakh, two gold rings and a silver ring worth Rs 1.28 lakh, and other movable assets such as 13 cows and 10 calves worth Rs 1.45 lakh, a treadmill, an exercise cycle and a microwave oven. The only immovable property that he has is an apartment in Dwarka in New Delhi, which cost him Rs 13.78 lakh in 2004, and is now worth Rs 1.48 crore. Last year, Kumar had declared total assets of Rs 75.53 lakh. A comparison of the two disclosures showed that the jump in the value of assets was primarily due to the rise in the worth of his Delhi apartment. Kumar's government has made it mandatory for all cabinet ministers to disclose their assets and liabilities on the last day of every calendar year. Deputy Chief Minister <keyword id="20021770" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="tejashwi-prasad-yadav" source="keywords">Tejashwi Prasad Yadav</keyword> declared a total income of Rs 4.74 lakh for the 2022-23 financial year. The minister also said that six ambulances will be operational at the hospital from Friday and a new ward with 100-bed capacity will be made operational soon, after holding a meeting with SKMCH staff. CM Kumar expressed grief over the unfortunate deaths and announced an ex-gratia of ₹400 ,000 for the families who have lost their children. Encephalitis and Bihar Bihar has been affected by the disease before. In 2014, encephalitis, caused 379 deaths in Bihar. It was said to be due to the delay in implementation of centre’s ambitious project to curb the disease. The then Health Minister, Dr Harsha Vardhan had then visited SKMCH and announced a 100-bed super-speciality facility which is still incomplete. On Sunday, Vardhan said it will be operational in six months. A 10-bed facility for treatment of children also awaits completion. Encephalitis deaths in Muzaffarpur, and adjoining places such as, Sitamarthi, Motihari, Sheohar and Vaishali have been an annual feature for the last three decades. Another lapse in this prevailing problem was a weak awareness campaign by the government. Director-in-Chief, Disease Control, Bihar, RD Ranjan, after his visit to Muzaffarpur on Friday, 14 June, said, “We can confirm the data as of 10 June.” Till then, 34 deaths had taken place and 109 cases of brain fever were reported.
