New Delhi, The JEE-Mains exam for admission to engineering colleges will be held four times a year starting 2021 to offer flexibility to students and a chance to improve their scores, <keyword id="5783061" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Union-Education">Union Education</keyword> Minister <keyword id="106655" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ramesh-Pokhriyal-Nishank">Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank</keyword> announced on Wednesday. The first edition of the exam will be held from February 23 to 26, followed by rounds in March, April and May. "We have examined the suggestions received from students and various quarters and it has been decided that JEE-Mains will be held in four sessions in February, March, April and May," Nishank said. "The first session will be held from February 23-26 and the results will be declared within five days from the last date of exams," he said. "The move will ensure that students don't miss out on opportunities due to clash of exams or due to the COVID-19 situation at present," he added. Nishank also said students will be given a choice to answer 75 questions (25 each in <keyword id="55984" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="physics">Physics</keyword>, Chemistry and Mathematics) out of 90 (30 each in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics). The results of both class 10 and 12 will be declared at an interval of just a few days. However, the decision to open schools will be taken after August keeping in mind the current COVID-19 situation. A final decision in this regard will be taken only after assessing the prevailing conditions. According to the HRD ministry, after August, new sessions will also start in universities. Everyone has equal rights over the physical and intellectual environment of his school. Education cannot progress beyond online classes only. It would be impossible to pursue education only by calling older children to school and keeping younger children at home. Several private schools have also suggested measures to the HRD ministry to open schools and safety in schools during this period. However, the ministry is not in a hurry to reopen schools at present. According to senior officials of the ministry, at present, preparations are being made to conduct the remaining board exams of class 10 and 12 between July 1 and 15. After the examinations, the first priority is to declare the results. Only then can the process of reopening school colleges begin.

Indian government may allow schools to open after August 15

JEE Mains entrance exam postponed amid surge in COVID-19 cases

The decision was taken in a high-level meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi here amid demand from students, teachers, parents and other stakeholders to cancel it. The CBSE Board exams were scheduled to be held from May 4 to June 7 and the results were to be announced by July 15. "The Board Exams for Class Xth to be held from 4th May to June 14th, 2021 are hereby cancelled. The results of Class Xth Board will be prepared on the basis of an objective criterion to be developed by the Board," Nishank tweeted. "Any candidate who is not satisfied with the marks allocated to him or her on this basis, will be given an opportunity to sit in an exam as and when the conditions are conducive to hold the exams," the Minister said. Nishank further said that the Class 12 exams will be held later and the situation reviewed on June 1 by the CBSE, and the details will be shared subsequently. "A notice of at least 15 days will be given before the start of the examinations." The Minister mentioned that the decision was taken after Prime Minister Modi chaired a high-level meeting to review the examinations to be held at various levels in view of the developing Corona situation. CBSE Class 10 board exams cancelled, Class 12 exams postponed as COVID-19 cases surge

It will include students across fields — from dance and singing to physics and mathematics. “Talented students from the arts and science stream have been selected from around the country for the programme. It would start on October 10 in Bangalore and conclude on October 23 at IIT Delhi,” Nishank said. The programme will be conducted in the presence of Kailasavadivoo Sivan, Chairman of Indian Space and Research Organisation (ISRO), PM’s scientific advisor Professor K Vijayraghavan, and Wing Commander Rakesh Sharma. “This is an ambitious initiative of the Modi government. Prime Minister’s innovative learning programme 'Dhruv' to kick off tomorrow at ISRO

Parliament on Tuesday passed a bill to declare five newly established Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) as institutions of national importance. The five new IIITs set up under the Public Private Partnership mode are in -- Surat, Bhopal, Bhagalpur, Agartala, and Raichur. The Indian Institutes of Information Technology Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2020 has alreaby been passed by <keyword id="6355187" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="lok-sabha">Lok Sabha</keyword> in the previous session on March 20, 2020. The bill was introduced in the upper house on Monday by Human Resource Development Minister <keyword id="106655" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ramesh-Pokhriyal-Nishank">Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank</keyword>. The education minister said that there are 25 IIITs in the country out of which 5 are purely run by the central government and 15 operate under public private partnership (PPP) mode. "We have brought the proposal before this House to bring five new operational institute which are located and have started operations in Surat (Gujarat), Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh), Bhagalpur (Bihar), Agartala (Tripura) and Raichur (<keyword id="6354780" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Karnataka">Karnataka</keyword>) to bring under this act," Nishank said. He said bringing the five new institutes under IIITs Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2020 will make them institute of national importance and they will have legal right to issue diploma, degree, PhD etc. These 5 IIITs along with 15 other IIITs, which are also built on public private partnership (PPP) mode will now be able to use the nomenclature of Bachelor of Technology (BTech) or Master of Technology (MTech) or PhD degree. It will also enable the institutes to attract enough students required to develop a strong research base in the country in the field of information technology. <keyword id="14666" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="BJP">BJP</keyword> MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa thanked the prime minister and the education minister for including the institute in Agartala in the bill. The bill amends the Indian Institutes of Information Technology Act, 2014 and the Indian Institutes of Information Technology (Public-Private Partnership) Act, 2017. Currently, these institutes are registered as Societies under the Societies Registration Act, 1860 and do not have the power to grant degrees or diplomas. On being declared institutions of national importance, the five institutes will be granted the power to grant degrees. A panel led by former Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) chief K Kasturirangan had submitted the draft of the new NEP to Union Human Resource Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank' when he took charge last year. The draft was then put in public domain to seek feedback from various stakeholders and over two lakh suggestions were received by the HRD Ministry about the same. "The policy draft has been approved. The Ministry has been renamed as Education Ministry," a senior HRD Ministry official said. The existing NEP was framed in 1986 and revised in 1992. A new education policy was part of the Bharatiya Janata Party's manifesto ahead of the 2014 general election. The drafting experts also took into account the report of a panel headed by former cabinet secretary T S R Subramanian and formed by the HRD Ministry when it was being headed by Union Minister Smriti Irani. India approves a new education policy after more than two decades

Minister of Human Resource Development Mr Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank introduced the Central Universities (Amendment) Bill, 2019 on July 8, 2019. As it was cleared by the Lok Sabha on July 12, 2019, the bill was eventually approved by the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, July 16, 2019. The provisions of this act amend the Central Universities Act, 2009, that is aimed at establishing Universities for education and research across different states of India. What the bill implies? The Central Universities Amendment Bill creates room for establishing two central universities in the state of Andhra Pradesh. The names of these universities will be the Central University of Andhra Pradesh and the Central Tribal University of Andhra Pradesh. The principal objective of the Central Tribal University is to take added measures to offer opportunities to the tribal population in the realms of higher education and research and also create enough facilities for researches related to tribal art, technology, culture, and customs. The background It is important to note that the creation of a Central University and a Central Tribal University in the state of Andhra Pradesh becomes mandatory as per the provisions found in the Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act, 2014. Measures taken as per the amendment While talking on the bill, <keyword id="7877691" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="HRD-Minister-Ramesh-Pokhriyal-Nishank">HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank</keyword> made an assurance to the members of the houses that the said universities will be created within the next four years. The minister said that the Government of India has now allotted a sum of RS. 450 crore for the project’s first phase that will see the emerging of the Central University. The total value of the project will be Rs. 902.07 crore. The government has also allotted a sum of Rs. 420 crore for the first phase of setting up the Tribal University which will be accomplished at a total allotment of Rs. 836 crore. The minister also said that the government is attaching a high priority to empower the education system in the country further. With this objective, the budget for education has been increased to Rs. 95,000 crore this year from Rs. 67,000 crore in 2013-14. The minister stated that the creation of these two universities in the state of Andhra Pradesh will significantly enhance the quality of Higher Education and also promote the avenues for research and higher education for the people residing in the state of Andhra Pradesh. Talking about the Tribal University, the minister remarked, "Apart from being focused on tribal education, the Central Tribal University shall carry out all educational and other activities like any other Central University.” Discussions in Rajya Sabha K Ram Mohan Naidu of the Telugu Desam Party said that the educational institutions that exist today in Andhra Pradesh are not running well and they lack the resources to function properly. YSRCP party’s Lavu Devarayalu requested the government to sanction enough funds towards the creation of the Central universities and urged for introducing more courses and research programs in these two budding universities. He also said, "More funds need to be allocated to the Eklavya schools in tribal areas so that the students who eventually go to the tribal university have a strong foundation.”
