<ul><li>The maiden trial launch of the Nirbhay Indigenous Technology Cruise Missile (ITCM) was scheduled to take place around 10:30 am today. </li><li>However, the launch was cancelled due to a ‘<keyword id="98490" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="technical-snag">technical snag</keyword>.’</li><li>The upgraded Nirbhay subsonic cruise missile comes with a new short turbofan engine and an advanced radio frequency seeker. </li></ul>After seven successful missile trials in September, India was scheduled to launch one more today — the Indigenous Technology Cruise Missile (ITCM). However, the launch was cancelled due to a ‘technical snag.’ “The <keyword id="6355142" type="DEFINITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="DRDO">DRDO</keyword> is analysing all the details,” a source told PTI. The test is happening at a time when India is locked in a stand off against China along the border in Eastern Ladakh. Several Nirbhay missiles have reportedly already been deployed in the region where two Asian giants are disputing over the Line of Actual Control (LAC). A new kind of subsonic cruise missile The ITCM is an upgraded version of the subsonic cruise missile Nirbhay, India's first indigenously developed cruise missile. The new missile has been fitted with advanced software and more indigenous systems — including a short turbofan engine and an advanced radio frequency seeker, according to <a href="https://www.newindianexpress.com/states/odisha/2020/oct/11/india-likely-to-conduct-maiden-test-of-indigenous-technology-cruise-missile-on-october-12-2208832.html">The New Indian Express.</a> The turbofan engine dubbed Manik has been developed by Gas Turbine Research Establishment, while the radio frequency seeker has been produced by the Research Centre Imarat. ITCM Nirbhay missile's maiden launch cancelled due to 'technical snag'

<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=+surface-to-surface+cruise+missile+">India's indigenous surface-to-surface cruise missile</a> <keyword id="275196" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Nirbhay">Nirbhay</keyword> nose-dived midway after it test fired in Odisha on Friday. The missile failed in its attempt to reach the target for the third time. 
 
The missile was launched from the Chandipur Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Balasore district at 11.38 a.m., according to <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Defence+Research+and+Development+Organisation+%28DRDO%29+">Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO)</a> sources. 
 
Although the take off was successful amid repeated disruptions of countdown, the missile missed the target after 11 minutes after it was test fired. 
 
The missile had a range of 750-1,000 km. But it nose-dived after covering 128 km in the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Bay+of+Bengal">Bay of Bengal</a>. 
 
On March 12, 2013, the missile's first test had also failed as it fell after 20 minutes of flight. The second test on October 17, 2014 was also not up to the mark as it could not maintain a low height. 
 
The cruise missile is expected to supplement the Indo-Russian <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=+surface-to-surface+cruise+missile+">joint venture supersonic cruise missile</a> <keyword id="42900" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="BrahMos">BrahMos</keyword>, which can carry warheads up to 290 km. 
 
The two-stage missile has a length of six metres, a diameter of 0.52 m, a wing span 2.7 m and a launch weight of about 1,500 kg.

Nirbhay, India's indigenous cruise missile fails midway after test fire

India today successfully test-fired its nuclear-capable cruise missile <keyword id="275196" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Nirbhay">Nirbhay</keyword>, which means fearless, from the <keyword id="2561552" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Integrated-Missile-Test-Range">Integrated Missile Test Range</keyword> located in <keyword id="58580" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Chandipur">Chandipur</keyword>, Odisha. 

	 The state-of-the-art missile, which has been developed by the <keyword id="152819" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Defence-Research-and-Development-Organisation">Defence Research and Development Organisation</keyword> (<keyword id="6355142" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="DRDO">DRDO</keyword>), is India's answer to America's Tomahawk and Pakistan's Babur. The launch comes days after <keyword id="2548117" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Cyclone-Hudhud">Cyclone Hudhud</keyword> hit the state's coastal region. 

	The Nirbhay is very manoeuvrable and can fly at tree-top level, making it difficult to detect on radar. Notably, the missile strikes targets located more than 700 km away, making India the capable to strike deep into enemy territory.
 

	It is worth noting that once India's own satellite navigation fleet is fully deployed, cruise missiles will start using signals from the country's space system.
 The Nirbhay has a wing and pronounced tail fins unlike other ballistic missiles like the <keyword id="6472480" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Agni">Agni</keyword>. It launches like a missile and in early flight the small wings get deployed. The sub-sonic missile then flies like an aircraft and can even hover near the target. 

	During its first flight on March 12, 2013, the Nirbhay had to be terminated because as it deviated from its course after launch. As the missile went off its flight trajectory, its engine was cut off to bring it down to ensure coastal safety. Then, the Nirbhay fell near the coast and the DRDO said no one was injured.
 

	This missile also gives India the capacity to launch different kinds of payloads at different ranges from various platforms at a very low cost.

India Successfully Test-fires N-capable Cruise Missile Nirbhay

India's <keyword id="2621282" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Human-Space-Flight">human space flight</keyword> mission <keyword id="6797456" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Gaganyaan">Gaganyaan</keyword> will be "slightly delayed" owing to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic even as <keyword id="6358064" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="isro">ISRO</keyword> resumes rocket launch activities from the first week of November, space agency chief K. Sivan said on Monday. Answering a query at the plenary session of the International Astronautical Congress 2020, the <keyword id="116095" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-Space-Research-Organisation">Indian Space Research Organisation</keyword> (ISRO) Chairman said India's first human space flight was targeted in August 2022, but owing to Covid-19's impact on the operations, the there will be a slight slip in meeting the mission's target date. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his Independence Day speech on August 15, 2018, had said when the nation is celebrating 75th year of Independence in 2022, an Indian son or daughter will be flying into space under the <keyword id="6827364" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Gaganyaan-mission">Gaganyaan mission</keyword>. Sivan said that the Gaganyaan mission has advanced well and the country is taking the help of other space-faring nations like Russia for training the astronauts and some other critical aspects, France in the space medical area and is also approaching US space agency NASA. On resuming rocket launches, he said some missions were delayed as officials were unable to travel to the rocket port from different cities. Sivan said ISRO is planning to launch its Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle C49 (PSLV C49) during the first week of November. The PSLV C49 rocket will fly with RISAT-2BR2 as the main passenger and about several other third party satellites for a fee. According to Sivan, international cooperation is the hallmark of India's space activities. The country has signed about 250 collaboration agreements with about 59 nations. He said India's international collaborations are a mix-some for getting advanced technologies and some are for helping other space faring nations and pointed out training 60 persons from 23 nations in building nano-satellites. India's human space flight mission may face slight delay as ISRO resumes launching rockets in November

With winter ready to set in by the end of the month, and reports of troop additions, the border between India and China is starting to look a lot like the Line of Control (LoC) with Pakistan. India races to build border roads Amid the endeavour to resolve the border dispute, Indian Defence Minister <keyword id="6355121" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rajnath-Singh">Rajnath Singh</keyword> iterated that China and Pakistan are in cahoots to cause chaos along India’s geographical boundaries. “You are aware of the situation on our eastern and northern borders. It appears as if border disputes are being created under a mission, first by Pakistan and now even China,” he said at an inauguration event yesterday with kicked off operations on 44 new bridges in border areas — including seven in Ladakh. “These bridges are designed to facilitate movement of heavy civil and military traffic in border areas," said Lieutenant General Harpal Singh from the Border Roads Organization(BRO), which builds all infrastructure along South Asian nation’s borders. And, there are more border roads to come. The Modi administration has completed 74 strategic roads along the eastern border so far and has plans to finish 20 more by next year. India-China border stalemate hardens The stalemate along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) seems to be deepening with both countries preparing their troops for winter and sending in more supplies. The Asian giants have been locked in a standoff for over five months now with <a href="https://www.scmp.com/week-asia/politics/article/3105218/india-china-border-stalemate-endures-fear-ladakh-new-kashmir">18 rounds of meetings</a> between them at diplomatic, political and military levels to try and resolve the tensions. However, withdrawal of troops is yet to be seen despite Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar and his counterpart Wang Yi meeting on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) ministerial meeting and agreeing on a ‘five-point plan’ for quick disengagement. Going forward, there may be a glimmer of hope, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese Xi Jinping set to face each other for the first time since the Galwan Valley incident at the BRICS Summit on November 17. Chinese PLA is reportedly rotating troops despite India's insistence on disengagement from friction points along the border

The longer it trails on, it gives the Indian government an opportunity to upgrade its military technology for border surveillance. A majority of the share — around $4.44 billion — will be directed towards domestic efforts. Special powers to spend $71.42 million A portion of the funds, around $71 million, comes with special financial powers to rapidly buy up weapons. In short-run, the government has approved the emergency purchase of Excalibur artillery rounds of the M777 ultralight howitzers from the United States. The purchase is presumably to take on China’s new howitzer weapon which it added to its arsenal on the border in June. The short-cannon type weapon is capable of firing projectiles at high trajectories. The weapons are relatively new and only made their public debut during a military parade in Beijing in October 2019. The approval also includes emergency funding for the Igla-S air defence systems from Russia and Spike anti-tank guided missiles from Israel. The Nirbhay subsonic cruise missile is India's first long-range missile to be built and designed inside the country. India's <keyword id="6354810" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Defense">Defense</keyword> Research and Development Organization (DRDO) claims that the missile launch was a massive success and that the missile will fill a critical role within India's defensive capabilities.
"The missile maintained an accuracy better than 10 metres throughout its path and covered more than 1000 kms," <a href="http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/politics-and-nation/india-test-fires-indigenously-developed-sub-sonic-cruise-missile-nirbhay/articleshow/44845851.cms">said</a> Avinash Chander, the scientific advisor of the DRDO, in a press release after the launch. "The successful indigenous development of the Nirbhay cruise missile will fill a vital gap in the war-fighting capabilities of our armed forces."
According to NDTV, the Nirbhay will <a href="http://www.ndtv.com/article/cheat-sheet/india-s-cruise-missile-nirbhay-10-must-know-facts-608102">function</a> as India's answer to America's Tomahawk and Pakistan's Babur missiles. With a range of up to 1,000 km (620 miles), and a capability to carry nuclear warheads, the missile could be used by India as a deterrent against its nuclear-armed rival Pakistan.
The Nirbhay <a href="http://rusnavy.com/news/othernavies/index.php?ELEMENT_ID=13620">can be launched</a> from multiple platforms, and different variants are expected to be adopted by India's Navy, Army, and Air Force. The Nirbhay is <a href="http://rusnavy.com/news/othernavies/index.php?ELEMENT_ID=13620">expected to replace </a>India's previous cruise missile, the Brahmos, which was co-developed with Russia. 
India's development of a long-range, nuclear-capable cruise missile comes within the context of ongoing tensions along the country's various disputed borders. India and Pakistan have <a href="http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/oct/09/india-warns-pakistan-pay-heavy-price-shelling-kashmir">exchanged artillery fire</a> over the disputed region of Kashmir this month, leading to tens of thousands of residents being evacuated and India threatening further measures against its northern neighbor.
India is also likely worried about <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/china-has-slowly-been-eating-away-at-india-2014-9">Chinese attempts to move into disputed territory in the Himilayas</a>. China, meanwhile, is developing its own advanced missile capabilities, including <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/hypersonic-weapons-arm-race-2014-9">boost-glide supersonic weapons</a> and ballistic missiles capable of carrying <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/chinas-worrying-new-weapons-2014-8">multiple nuclear warheads</a>.
The Nirbhay is just the latest piece of evidence that India is serious about keeping pace with its regional rivals - last year, the country was <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/india-is-the-worlds-largest-arms-importer-2014-6">the largest arms-importer in the world</a>.

Astra is designed to be capable of engaging targets at varying ranges and altitudes allowing for engagement of both short-range targets (up to 20 km) and long-range targets (up to 80 km) using alternative propulsion modes and the missile is technologically more sophisticated than the nuclear capable Agni missile series of strategic ballistic missiles.

	Astras like Brahmashira, Brahmasthra, Pasupatasthra, Vaishnavasthra, Narayana Astra, Agneyasthra, Vayavasthra, Nagasthra, Vajrasthra, Varunasthra etc. were used in Mahabharata along with positive indications of the use of Nuclear weapons, otherwise how could the war cause the death of around 1.5 billion people in a matter of 18 days. The wide degree of devastation found at the site of Mohanjo Daro corresponds exactly to Nagasaki. Davenport, who published his findings in a book named, "Atomic Destruction in 2000 B.C.", in 1979 had said that there was an epicenter about 50 yards wide where everything was crystallized, fused or melted. 
 

	Barbarika, a character in Mahabharata, had the ability to mark its targets either to save it or to destroy it with the help of his unique Astras. Now consider this, India's DRDO has a two-stage missile named Nirbhay which has the capability of picking out a target and attacking it among multiple other objects. The missile also has a loitering capability, i.e., it can circumvent a target and perform several maneuvers and then re-engage it. 
 

	The Vedic Concept
 

	The Vedas (meaning “knowledge”) comprises of four ancient Indian texts, with the oldest dating back about 1500 BC to 1200 BC. They are also the oldest writings of Hinduism. The four texts of the Vedas include Rigveda, Yajurveda, Sama-Veda, and Atharva-Veda. 
	 The Vedas influenced many from <keyword id="903829" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Nicola-Tesla">Nicola Tesla</keyword> to Bohr and inspired them to explore the new vistas of science and technology and to imagine the unimaginable. Bohr, Heisenberg and Schrödinger regularly read Vedic texts. Heisenberg stated, “Quantum theory will not look ridiculous to people who have read Vedanta.” Vedanta is the conclusion of Vedic thought. 
	 <keyword id="75565" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Henry-David-Thoreau">Henry David Thoreau</keyword> said: "In the morning I bathe my intellect in the stupendous philosophy of the Bhagavad Gita... in comparison with which... our modern world and its literature seems puny and trivial." 
	 <keyword id="2933609" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Julius-Robert-Oppenheimer">Julius Robert Oppenheimer</keyword>, the principle developer of the atomic bomb, stated that "The Vedas are the greatest privilege of this century." During the explosion of the first atomic bomb, Oppenheimer quoted several Bhagavad-Gita verses from the 11th chapter, such as: 
	 
	 

	"Death I am, cause of destruction of the worlds..." 
	 
	 

	When Oppenheimer was asked if this is the first nuclear explosion, he significantly replied: "Yes, in modern times," implying that ancient nuclear explosions may have previously occurred. 
	 
	 

	It is said that science and religion are not different; it's just that science is too young to understand it. Mahabharata and the Vedas have influenced a generation of the scientists and is still relevant in creating the cutting-edge advanced and futuristic technologies for the mankind including the modern weaponry and warfare.
