<ul class="summary-list"><li>I've wanted an e-scooter for over a year, and during quarantine I finally splurged on one.</li><li>The <a href="https://go.skimresources.com?id=35871X943606&amp;xs=1&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.costco.com%2Fsegway-ninebot-es3-kickscooter-with-dual-battery.product.100498363.html363.html" rel="nofollow sponsored nofollow sponsored">Ninebot KickScooter by Segway ES3</a> has great battery life, is foldable, and can go pretty darn fast.</li><li>I rode it all the way from Uptown Manhattan to Brooklyn to see my friends, and I had a relatively smooth journey — although my battery precipitously declined after the Brooklyn Bridge.</li><li>While it's no exact subway replacement, it's still a great way to zip around the city.</li></ul><p>As an extrovert in <keyword id="72226" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="New-York-City">New York City</keyword>, it's generally pretty easy to see those I care about. I've been a public-transit and walking enthusiast for as long as I can remember. I'll happily take an hour-long subway ride from my apartment in Uptown Manhattan to see friends in Bushwick, or walk a few miles to Central Park to read a book in the sun.</p><p>But when the pandemic struck, it became clear that social distancing was here for the long haul. Public transit — which is often closer than close quarters in New York — <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/cdc-cars-over-mass-transit-amid-coronavirus-2020-6">seemed particularly hazardous</a>. Even strolls down to the park were out of the picture; an hour-long walk in one direction is manageable, but I'd generally take the train back.</p><p>I considered buying a bike, but I feared New York's <a href="https://mobile.businessinsider.com/most-dangerous-cities-to-ride-a-bike-in-2019-7#1-new-york-new-york-has-tens-of-thousands-of-bike-commuters-and-the-cycling-population-is-growing-despite-a-hrefhttpwwwnycgovhtmldotdownloadspdfcycling-in-the-citypdfover-1400-milesa-of-bike-lanes-and-a-a-hrefhttpswww1nycgovsitevisionzeroindexpagevision-zeroa-transportation-initiative-biking-remains-dangerous-20">well-documented dangers for bikers</a>. Also, it would be <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/united-states-is-running-out-of-bikes-during-coronavirus-pandemic-2020-5">difficult to even find one</a>. And, as someone who is 5-foot-3 and not renowned for upper-body strength, I didn't think a bike would be of much use if I threw out my back bringing it home.</p><p>Enter the e-scooter.</p><p>Some background: I first got hooked on e-scooters after my hometown ran a pilot program with a few dockless vendors — Bird, Lime, and Spin. I tried them all out, but consistently gravitated toward Lime. I found their scooters extra sturdy and speedy; they felt the least like the Razor scooters of my youth. </p><p>I loved scootering so much that I did some research into how I could make my dreams of scootering through New York a reality. I learned that <a href="https://techcrunch.com/2018/05/01/lime-partners-with-segway-to-build-electric-scooters/">Lime works with Ninebot, a scooter company merged with Segway</a>, and would longingly compare models and makes. But, as it turns out, buying an e-scooter is pretty expensive; like, at minimum $400 expensive. Still, I kept joking — sometimes threateningly — to my friends that someday I would buy an e-scooter, and would be unstoppable.</p><p>Enter the stimulus check.</p><p>There are many ways one could use the stimulus check. You could save it, or put in your 401(k) for retirement savings. I spent mine on a <a href="https://go.skimresources.com?id=35871X943606&amp;xs=1&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.costco.com%2Fsegway-ninebot-es3-kickscooter-with-dual-battery.product.100498363.html363.html" rel="nofollow sponsored nofollow sponsored">Ninebot KickScooter by Segway ES3</a> from Costco.</p><p>The ES3 checked all of my boxes. It has a 28-mile range in ideal conditions (which New York City is not), meaning that its range on New York City streets is probably closer to half of that. But its dual batteries give it a huge advantage over similarly sized e-scooters, giving me a range that should last for the future 10-mile commute to my office.</p><p>It was not super heavy, clocking in at about 30 pounds; it also has a built-in folding mechanism, making the stairs situation in my apartment a little bit easier. It can easily get up to its top speed of 15.5 mph. And, with the Costco discount, it came out to $685 total. </p><p>After the scooter arrived, I took it for a few short test spins, mostly to try out the battery. </p><p>It was fairly intuitive to use: First, I had to download the <keyword id="6737758" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="segway-ninebot">Segway-Ninebot</keyword> app to pair it to my phone's Bluetooth. This allows you to use the full range of scooter features — and to connect with the <keyword id="435625" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Segway">Segway</keyword> community. I haven't done that part quite yet, but the feed appears to mostly be people taking beauty shots of their scooters, which I do respect.</p><p>To get the scooter up and running, you have to physically kickstart it, and then the accelerator kicks in. There are two levels of acceleration: one keeps the scooter at a maximum speed of around 10 mph, and the other goes up to around 20 mph. </p><p>I found that it made more sense to constantly keep the scooter on the higher acceleration mode, especially with any bumpy terrain or inclines.  I tried the lower acceleration mode on one big hill and found myself going backwards; I needed that extra jolt to keep chugging along — and to not get caught in potholes.</p><p>The brake is also very eager, and I quickly learned to ease into it. While it was comforting to know that I could jerk the scooter to a complete stop while speeding down a hill, it was also a little scary. </p><p>After I took a roughly four-mile scoot up to the Bronx, I saw basically no drop in battery, and decided it was time to set out on my greatest adventure of quarantine: The Big Scoot from Uptown Manhattan to Brooklyn.</p><p><div type="image" title="scooter helmet" height="3088" width="2316" msid="76818426" hostid="261"></div></p><p>The route I plotted had five stops, each at a different friend's apartment. Altogether, it would be about 15 miles of scootering — one straight shot down Manhattan to the Brooklyn Bridge, and then city streets to my first stop in Clinton Hill. </p><p>I was most worried about the ride all the way down Manhattan, the longest leg of the trip. But I had pretty much nothing to worry about — the Hudson River Greenway bike path has an entrance very close to my apartment, and I was able to take it all the way down the borough. </p><p>As it turns out, easily accessible bike paths are great and maybe we should have more of them! The path took me along the Hudson River the whole time, which resulted in some beautiful New York City views. By midtown, the bike path even had its own fancy line dividers and stop lights. I, of course, was the only one paying attention to the bike traffic signals, betraying both my Boston and New York heritage, where the rules are made up and the traffic lights don't matter. </p><p>Departing from the path to get to the Brooklyn Bridge was the scariest part of my journey. The streets of New York's financial district are, for some reason, filled with Very Serious motorcycles on Sunday mornings during a global pandemic. I felt like I was riding a toy next to them. </p><p>Also, the financial district is not a bike friendly space: The unclear signs and directions led to me accidentally taking a major road onto the Brooklyn Bridge. When I realized that's how real cars — and not silly people on e-scooters — boarded the bridge, I abruptly jumped onto the median and transferred to the bike and pedestrian friendly walkway. </p><p>The Brooklyn Bridge was terrible for my battery, and not an experience I recommend to any fellow e-scooter pals. It's slatted, which means if you happen to be on a lightweight device with not very high wheels, it's a bumpy 1.1 miles of screaming and dodging friendly walkers who clearly have no idea why you're there. That said, the views are very pretty. </p><p>By the time I de-bridged, I was worried about my battery: It was down to its last bar. But I was very close to my first destination — my cousin's apartment — and thankfully my cousin took the scooter into her apartment (without me) and let it charge while we socially distanced on her roof. </p><p>That charge sustained me through my other visits, which were like the equivalent of an espresso shot of serotonin: I saw friends in person that I hadn't seen in months. I got to see roving Business Insider tech reporter <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/author/aaron-holmes">Aaron Holmes</a>, and see the exterior of my friend Eleanor's new apartment (and glimpsed her new very cute cat Charlotte from outdoors).</p><p>Luckily, my gracious and kind friend Maddy offered to give me a ride back uptown (with windows down and mask on) at the end of my journey; I don't think my battery would've gotten me all the way back home. </p><p>Overall, while my e-scooter is no exact replacement for the subway, she is a noble steed who allowed me to safely reconnect with friends and see the city in a sustainable way. After my adventure, I had a wicked sports-bra sunburn, so I've learned to more assiduously sunscreen.</p><p>I wouldn't recommend an e-scooter if you're planning on making a trek like mine daily, but it's great for the occasional jaunt around town — especially if you live in a huge urban area like me. More recently, I've used it to get bagels from my favorite bagel store in the city (shoutout Absolute Bagels) and to scooter around Central Park.</p><p><div type="image" title="central park" height="2268" width="3024" msid="76818431" hostid="261"></div></p><p>Even when it's safer to use the subway again, I'll probably continue to use my e-scooter frequently. It's all of the fresh air and views of a walk, but with the speed of someone who's actually good at running. And that's the perfect combination for me.</p>

Why a $685 e-scooter was my best quarantine purchase

Xiaomi forayed into the India market in 2014<b>,</b> at a time when Indian consumers were almost desperately looking for an affordable yet reliable smartphone, it took the Indian consumer much longer to learn how to pronounce the company’s name than grab a Mi phone online. At the time when Xiaomi entered India over 50% of the phones in the market were under Rs. 6000 budget phones, Xiaomi decided to come with mid range phones and it almost instantaneously became the perfect device to upgrade for all the low-end phone users. <keyword id="1470923" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Manu-Jain">Manu Jain</keyword>, Vice President, Xiaomi and Managing Director, Xiaomi India said, “Xiaomi India has seen exponential growth in India and today it enjoys market leadership in the smartphone segment. I believe a key reason for our success in the smartphone segment has been our commitment to India.” For Xiaomi, It was all about the pricing and timing happened to be perfect. <b></b><br /><br /> Right from a massive start to now, Xiaomi has had a smooth ride in India<b>. </b>Xiaomi is now the second largest smartphone vendor in India and <keyword id="6377157" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="IDC">IDC</keyword> has ranked Xiaomi India as number one smartphone brand in India in Q3 2017. <br /><br /> Xiaomi has now announced its third manufacturing plant in India and the first facility only for power banks. This manufacturing plant is in partnership with Hipad Technology spread across 2.3 lakh square feet. With the timing of this announcement Xiaomi is also playing a bigger part for one of the most important initiatives of the government - ‘Make in India’. <br /><br /> This year has been extremely important for Xiaomi in India as it also opened exclusive Xiaomi stores called <keyword id="4539022" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="mi-homes">Mi Homes</keyword> in the country. In China, the stores are usually experiential whereas in <keyword id="3671884" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="india-xiaomi">India Xiaomi</keyword> has gone for mostly smaller stores with products limited mainly to phones and phone accessories. However the company has announced setting up of 100 Mi homes across India within two years. A move that’s sure to benefit the company in terms of reaching out to the smaller regions in the country where e-commerce is almost non-existent. With broadband connectivity across India improving, it is going to be very important for smartphone makers to tap the new smartphone users in the tier two and tier three cities. The online market for smartphones have reached a saturation point therefore it has become critical for smartphone brands such as Xiaomi to up their Offline presence. This has also helped the company provide dedicated space for experiencing the Mi products that were earlier more known to the online consumers mainly. <br /><br /> Xiaomi internationally invests in many small companies and work with them to build a range of products for Mi Ecosystem. Mi Ecosystem includes a variety of smart products for the home like air purifier, water purifier, rice cooker etc. Of all the Mi Ecosystem products, Xiaomi has so far only launched the Mi air Purifier in India and the timing again was perfect as it was clear that quality of air in Delhi was deteriorating. The pricing of the air purifier again is highly competitive as it is priced below Rs. 10,000. This pricing in some ways has also raised awareness about the product category as air purifiers were not really considered a necessary home appliance in Indian homes. But Xiaomi still hasn’t bought half of the product range it has in China to India; some of their more popular products in China like <keyword id="2944432" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mi-TV">Mi TV</keyword> and Mi <keyword id="2809758" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ninebot">Ninebot</keyword> have still not made it to India market. <br /><br /> And Xiaomi is only getting started in India, the company is planning to bring almost all products to India eventually. the consumers or the “Mi fans” as they are called have been eagerly waiting for bigger launches like Mi Tv and Mi Ninebot, while Ninebot could be a challenge given the condition of the roads here in India but Xiaomi is working on putting together perfect content to go with their TVs as of course product, pricing and timing should all align for Xiaomi to take the next big step. <br /><br />  <br /><br />

The brands include Unagi, Bird, Segway-Ninebot, SUPER73, and SWFT according to a <a href="https://corporate.bestbuy.com/best-buy-rides-into-electric-transportation-with-e-bikes-scooters-mopeds-and-more/">press release</a>.</p><p>"There's been incredible innovation in the e-transportation space, and we know more customers are looking for ways to efficiently and sustainably commute," Frank Bedo, senior vice president at Best Buy said in a press release. "As we grow this selection, we look forward to helping customers find the right products to fit their needs and supporting them as they hit the road safely."</p><p>At the beginning of the pandemic, bicycle sales saw a stark increase as more people took to the outdoors for enjoyment amid strict lockdowns. The S-Pod can hit speeds of up to 24 mph,  motorized personal vehicle maker Segway-Ninebot announced Friday.</p><p>Like the original Segway, the S-Pod runs on only two wheels, but it's "self-balancing." Instead of navigating by leaning forwards and backwards, the S-Pod comes with a navigation pad to manually point the vehicle in the direction you want to go. Segway suggests that the S-Pod is perfect for "enclosed campuses such as airports, theme parks and malls."</p><p>Segway-Ninebot says the vehicle draws inspiration from the <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MXoxXFNRrCc">gyrosphere vehicles</a> in the 2015 movie "Jurassic World," which transports visitors around the amusement park.</p><p>However, the S-Pod is already drawing comparisons to another movie vehicle: <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h1BQPV-iCkU">the hoverchairs</a> in Disney's Pixar animated movie "WALL-E" that passengers use to travel around and essentially inhabit.</p><p>People will be able to try out the S-Pod for the first time at CES 2020, which kicks off January 7 in Las Vegas.</p><p>However, the S-Pod is not on sale to the public. <a href="https://www.theverge.com/2020/1/3/21047217/segway-s-pod-personal-vehicle-self-balancing-wheelchair-ces-2020">The Verge reports</a> that the S-Pod will be available to purchase likely in 2021 or later.</p>

I drove Segway's bizarre egg-shaped scooter, and it was extremely difficult to use

<ul class="summary-list"><li>The production of the <keyword id="435625" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Segway">Segway</keyword> PT is coming to an end after the company announced it would sunset its namesake device and plans to lay off 21 employees.</li><li>Accounting for less than 1.5% of the company's <keyword id="6362247" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Profit">profit</keyword>, Segway PT's are no longer a financially attractive endeavor for the hardware maker.</li><li>Segway will continue to produce motorized scooters.</li></ul><p>Say goodbye to the Segway PT.</p><p>The Segway company's original invention, a two-wheeled personal transport device popular among tourists and police, will be retired after almost two decades of production.</p><p>The company, founded in 1999 by Dean Kamen, announced it would stop making PT's as of July 15, <a href="https://apnews.com/3525b9a69569d57dc41a373e82a8f1cd">the Associated Press reported Tuesday</a>.</p><p>"Within its first decade, the Segway PT became a staple in security and law enforcement, viewed as an effective and efficient personal vehicle," Judy Cai, Segway's president, <a href="https://apnews.com/3525b9a69569d57dc41a373e82a8f1cd">said in a statement</a>.</p><p>Segway was supposed to transform personal <keyword id="34991" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="transportation">transportation</keyword> but never caught on in a big way, and has made headlines for accidents and major crashes. Jim Heselden, a British millionaire who purchased the company in 2009, <a href="http://www.nbcnews.com/id/39377851/ns/world_news-europe/t/segway-company-owner-rides-scooter-cliff-dies/#.XvNQ5ZNKhhE">died on a Segway</a> when he rode off a 30-foot cliff near his country estate less than a year after the acquisition.</p><p>Other <a href="https://www.npr.org/2020/06/23/882536320/after-nearly-two-bumpy-decades-the-original-segway-will-be-retired-in-july">high-profile accidents</a> included George W. Bush falling off a Segway in 2003 and a cameraman colliding with Usain Bolt during his victory lap on the World Athletics Championships track.</p><p>But the demise of the Segway PT model has less to do with safety concerns and more to do with profit.</p><p>Segway PT's never took hold among the general public — less than <a href="https://apnews.com/3525b9a69569d57dc41a373e82a8f1cd">1.5% of the company's revenue</a> last year was generated by PT's.</p><p>"This decision was not made lightly, and while the current global pandemic did impact sales and production, it was not a deciding factor in our decision," Cai added.</p><p>Segway, which was acquired by Ninebot, a rivaling Chinese company, has over 100 employees but plans to lay off 21 workers with the discontinuation of the PT. But the company plans to keep its facility in Bedford, New Jersey.</p><p>While Segway PT's are at the end of the line, the company is still forging ahead in the realm of transportation, primarily with <a href="https://apnews.com/3525b9a69569d57dc41a373e82a8f1cd">motorized scooters</a>, which have become a popular transportation alternative.</p>

These facilities will be monitored 24/7, the company said, and all scooters in Lime's fleet, regardless of manufacturer, will undergo a "new daily diagnostic training program."</p><p>While Lime said the problem was limited to the three Western US cities, would-be juicers on reddit said they had noticed an unavailability of harvesting late Tuesday in at least three other cities, including Washington D.C., Oxford, Ohio, and Raleigh, North Carolina.</p><p>The company did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Business Insider.</p><p>"Lime takes full responsibility for our scooters," it said. It was quickly put out, no injuries have been reported, and everyone was able to evacuate safely," a Dropbox spokesperson told Business Insider. "We're thankful to the SFFD for their swift response."</p><p>The Verge <a href="https://www.theverge.com/2019/8/15/20807950/dropbox-hq-evacuated-electric-scooter-explode-catch-fire-san-francisco">reported</a> that the San Francisco Fire Department (SFFD) confirmed an electric scooter caught fire on the office's fifth floor, the fire was extinguished by the SFFD, and no injuries occurred.&#xa0;</p><p>Dropbox was preparing to move out of its Brannan Street office to its new office space in Mission Bay's Exchange building on Monday, according to <a href="https://www.sfgate.com/bayarea/article/Dropbox-escooter-fire-San-Francisco-Brannan-14308301.php#photo-14322353">SF Gate</a>. The fire interfered with Dropbox's request that employees move their belongings out of the current office by the end of the work day on Wednesday, according to the report.</p><p>E-scooters and so-called hoverboards catching fire have made headlines in the past. It declined to disclose how many Okai-made scooters are in its global fleet, or in which cities they operated. Still, users on social media in Portland, Denver, Baltimore, Paris, France and more reported encounters with broken Lime scooters in recent days.</p><p>Lime did not respond to a request for comment, but told the Washington post that safety is its "highest priority."</p><p>"The vast majority of Lime's fleet is manufactured by other companies and decommissioned Okai scooters are being replaced with newer, more advanced scooters considered best in class for safety," it said. Lime issues its second scooter recall in less than a month

In some cases, scooters are<a href="http://www.thedrive.com/tech/26036/investors-cool-as-birds-shared-scooters-hit-speedbumps"> lasting less than 30 days.</a></p><p>That's where a startup called Superpedestrian sees its niche.</p><p>Founded in 2013, the Cambridge, Massachusetts-based startup hopes to build a "platform" of sorts to power scooter rental startups. Its vehicles have an onboard computer to run diagnostic checks and report issues to a main hub, without requiring a rider to report the scooter as broken.</p><p>"The only solution to address this exploding demand for urban mobility is basically to truncate the space, to cut it off and make a smaller vehicle that's specialized for cities," CEO Assaf Biderman, who spend more than a decade in MIT's Senseable City Lab working on robotics, big data, and AI to improve urban live, said in a recent interview with Business Insider.</p><p>Biderman's the first to admit that it's not a new idea. After all, bicycles and even scooters have been around for centuries, even before cars. Biderman explains that the company's "Core vehicle intelligence technology" consists of four computers that live inside the vehicle, be it a scooter or bicycle. Even non-vehicles such as vending machines can benefit from the company's diagnostic tech. They're constantly monitoring 100 things that could go wrong from battery level to wheel alignment or pressure,</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Superpedestrian</span></p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>"It's designed to be totally agnostic because we realized that the landscape is going to shape up over a decade or two, not over months," said Biderman. "We don't know yet what will be the eventual modes that people will use."</p><p>Biderman says the scooter Superpedestrian unveiled back in December can live for anywhere from nine to 18 months while holding a charge for three to seven days. Both of those measures would be far longer than what other firms have observed in operation and could be revolutionary for the industry financially. </p><p>So far, Superpedestrian has yet to announce any partners using its platform, though Biderman admitted the company is "working with major ride-hailing operators and many other companies."</p><p>We should see the vehicles deployed sometime this year, he said.</p><p>"As urban <keyword id="34991" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="transportation">transportation</keyword> is transformed, a host of new vehicle technologies will be needed," Biderman said. "from new types of micro-vehicles to further progress on zero-maintenance, to integration with autonomous driving, and many more. Users on social media in Portland, Denver and Baltimore in the US reported problems, as well as in Paris.</p><p>Contee, who spoke to Business Insider before the reports of broken handlebars emerged, said scooter hardware was "nascent" but said the firm was innovating on the way Lime's software made the vehicles safer. He pointed to the fact that Lime's scooters have a capped speed limit in certain places at night, and that in Prague scooters aren't permitted in "high pedestrian" areas.</p><p><strong>Read more: </strong><em><a href="http://uk.businessinsider.com/lime-issues-second-scooter-recall-less-than-a-month-2018-11">Lime issues its second scooter recall in less than a month</a></em></p><p>Contee suggested Lime's users were loyal because the company learns from its mistakes.</p><p>"Ultimately when you're trying to move in this space where it's so nascent, where no one has created a vehicle for this particular use... if you haven't made a core competency of being able to learn and take that feedback and iterate on hardware, then what can be done in six months of learning and [with] a different fleet type creates a loyalty you wouldn't have otherwise."</p><p>When Business Insider asked Contee how he might reassure would-be scooter riders alarmed by the flimsiness of the devices, he said the firm had been transparent in what it's created.</p><p>Still, <a href="https://www.li.me/terms-of-service">Lime's terms of service state baldly</a>: "You agree that neither Lime nor the Released Persons are liable for any injury or death suffered by You while using the Services, whether or not You are wearing a helmet at the time of injury."</p><h2>Scooter startups are worth billions, but there are lots of questions about the law and safety</h2><p>Lime has clocked 20 million in the 18 months since its launched, and is worth $1.1 billion <a href="http://uk.businessinsider.com/scooter-startup-lime-raises-335-million-funding-alphabet-uber-2018-7">after raising $335 million from high-profile backers including Uber and Alphabet</a>. Its biggest rivals include Bird, another US startup worth millions in backing, Europe's Taxify, and a host of smaller regional firms.</p><p>All of the firms are racing to lure as many users onto their apps as possible, and to offer different types of new city transport, with Lime also offering electric bikes and electric cars.</p><p>But regulation and safety are proving thorny problems for companies that are <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/bird-is-copying-ubers-lobbying-playbook-emails-show-2018-8?IR=T">taking a leaf out of the Uber playbook</a> and perhaps prioritizing speedy expansion over compliance.</p><p>A US man <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2018/09/20/fatal-e-scooter-accident-emerges-just-california-legalizes-riding-without-helmet/?utm_term=.87446f9f5a10">died in September after falling off a Lime scooter</a> and not wearing a helmet, while a class-action <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2018/10/20/class-action-lawsuit-accuses-e-scooter-companies-gross-negligence/?utm_term=.c1aa27dbc5a3">filed in the US in October</a> accuses both Lime and Bird of "gross negligence."</p><p>Meanwhile, scooter startups have struggled to expand to Europe's biggest market, London, because their vehicles don't meet local regulatory standards. Business Insider <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/bird-lime-pitching-uk-government-to-trial-electric-scooters-2018-8?IR=T">revealed in August that both firms were hoping to see changes in UK law</a> that would permit scooters on London roads.</p><p>Contee said Lime was "pro-regulation" and that the firm hoped to convince London's transport regulator, Transport for London, that it had created the best product.</p><p>The firm will introduce electric bikes to the UK, then plans to expand to other vehicles in time.
