To support its <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=over-the-top+">over-the-top</a> (OTT) strategy in India, British internet service provider (ISP) <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=New+Call+Telecom+">New Call Telecom</a> might invest around $300 million (Rs 1,920 crore) and acquire three, four new companies in the software and infrastructure segments. 
 
CEO <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Nigel+Eastwood+">Nigel Eastwood</a> told the Economic Times: "We have spent time over the last few months looking at a number of companies. We have got around eight-nine companies that we are talking to and three to four we would end up acquiring. We will be making announcements about two of them very shortly." 
 
These acquisitions will be based on the company's app plan, he said, adding “Almost all of them are India-based companies. But one of the companies that we are talking to will be an interesting play coming to India. What we are looking to acquire complementary assets." 
 New Call acquired messaging <keyword id="2996719" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="app-Nimbuzz">app Nimbuzz</keyword> and Delhi-based <keyword id="2997292" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Wi-Fi-Ozone-Networks">Wi-Fi Ozone Networks</keyword> in 2014. The British company also held discussions with a number of fixed-line broadband companies, but the negotiations failed due to valuation issues. 
 
Regarding investments, he said, "We see investors now really warming toward what we are doing and really validating the opportunities. We have gone way beyond our initial expectations because that was just seed capital. And, we have got enough capital for what we want to do." 
 
Eastwood said the company is no longer actively hunting for a fixed line company as its strategically focused on the OTT plan. 
 
New Call is consolidating India operations from its office in <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Gurgaon">Gurgaon</a>. It will be hiring 100 people in the next six to 12 months to support the operations of all three companies. 
 
"We are acquiring other businesses and incubating new ideas and that's why we need people. That's my vision behind growing our business in India (and) getting behind the Digital India initiative," Eastwood said. 
 New Call's acquisition of <keyword id="2612209" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Ozone-Networks">Ozone Networks</keyword> is awaiting <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Foreign+Investment+Promotion+Board+">Foreign Investment Promotion Board</a> (FIPB) approval. The application has been deferred a number of times.

Here is why New Call Telecom is considering investing Rs 1,920-crore in India

New Call Telecom, the sixth-largest <keyword id="526271" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Internet-Service-provider">Internet service provider</keyword> in the <keyword id="6354868" type="COUNTRY" weightage="20" keywordseo="UK">UK</keyword>, has bought India-focused instant messenger and Voice over Internet Protocol (<keyword id="54765" type="TECHNOLOGY" weightage="20" keywordseo="VoIP">VoIP</keyword>) company <keyword id="167028" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Nimbuzz">Nimbuzz</keyword>. The deal is worth approximately $250 million. 
 Nimbuzz, which is headed by IIT Delhi graduate <keyword id="236000" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Vikas-Saxena">Vikas Saxena</keyword>, has more than 200 million registered users. The greatest pie of 20% comes from India. 
 
Company officials have confirmed the deal but refused to comment on the amount transacted. Nimbuzz claims to have a rapidly expanding user base with subscribers in more than 200 countries and a strong mobile advertising business. 
 
Saxena, who has earlier been associated with companies like Bharti Airtel and Aircel, said that the deal will help Nimbuzz expand, especially in new areas of technology. As per media reports, New Call Telecom will own about 70% stake in Nimbuzz, which currently has a revenue projection of about $15 million per annum. 
 
"We see huge potential in India's nascent internet, broadband, instant messaging and data sharing markets. We hope to generate and expand a number of new and traditional revenue streams as e-commerce picks pace and broadband expands," New Call Telecom Chairman Jerome Booth said. 
 
Nimbuzz has over 100 employees, with a majority of them in India. Saxena will retain some of his equity in Nimbuzz.

UK Telecom Company Acquires Nimbuzz For $250 million

UK-based <keyword id="698740" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="New-Call-Telecom">New Call Telecom</keyword> will invest $300 million (about Rs 2,000 Crores) in India to increase its presence in the country. 
 "New Call Telecom has announced investments worth USD 300 million in the next 12-18 months in India", its CEO <keyword id="2480290" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Nigel-Eastwood">Nigel Eastwood</keyword> told reporters today. 
 He said the focus will be on acquiring some more companies in India and enlarge business stakes in the country. The company had recently acquired leading global mobile technology brand <keyword id="167028" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Nimbuzz">Nimbuzz</keyword> and New Delhi-based Ozone Networks, country's largest <keyword id="2030638" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Wi-Fi-service-provider">Wi-Fi service provider</keyword>, the CEO further said. 
 
"Nimbuzz has rapidly growing revenues that have doubled every year for the last 3 years. Ozone Network has doubled its growth in last seven months," Eastwood added.

New Call Telecom to invest $300 million in India

For <keyword id="42463" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-Women">Indian women</keyword>, <keyword id="16048" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="sexual-harassment">sexual harassment</keyword> is nothing new. Every day they come across stories, or I dare say witness stories of women (including themselves) being stalked, eye raped, or going through verbal and physical attacks. Their biggest struggle, every single day, is to maintain their sanctity—at their homes, on road, in their educational institutions, as well as at their workplace. Women aren’t even spared in their dreams, as their stalkers often manage to enter their private zone—mind that is—and scare them. 
 According to one of the recent surveys conducted by <keyword id="167028" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Nimbuzz">Nimbuzz</keyword>, a cross-platform mobile calling &amp; messaging app, Indian women don’t feel safe at their workplace. The survey, titled Nimbuzz - Pulse of the Nation, reveals that “47% of women feel their top issue at work is sexual harassment vis-à-vis inequality in pay and unequal opportunities.” 
 
Why is the situation so grim for Indian women despite having stricter laws against harassment at the workplace? Who is to be blamed for the situation? Women themselves? The patriarchal society? The western dresses as khap once claimed that western dresses like jeans and skirts provoke men for rape or molestation? Or is it the Chinese foods like chowmein that creates hormonal imbalance in men/boys and they commit a mistake such as “rape”? Ok, let’s keep the pun aside and take a look at some other facts. 
 Not just women, even men feel that sexual harassment is one of the common problems for <keyword id="6359149" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="working-women">working women</keyword>. “51% of male colleagues feel that their female colleagues have faced sexual harassment in one way or the other,” cites the Nimbuzz - Pulse of the Nation report. 
 
It could begin with looks, lewd remarks, intentional touching and end up into anything—right from open invitation to have sex to rape, depending on the person involved. Interestingly, the executive stalkers (including others), are now using innovative way to hit on their female colleagues—like forwarding flirtatious texts through WhatsApp, BBM among others. Using social media platforms such as Facebook to stalk female colleagues is also very common. 
 
However, Rinku Tyagi, a senior executive with one of the leading IT consulting firms, feels otherwise. She says, “Social media platforms have just come up, while sexual harassment has been a prevailing practice for decades. Yes, texts and social media platforms are being used, but verbal remarks and physical advances still take the cake when it comes to sexual harassment.” 
 
 We couldn’t agree less despite seeing the stats put forth by Nimbuzz - Pulse of the Nation report, which reveals that “58% of women claim that most of the cases happen via sms/text.” 
 
But are men alone to be blamed? No, we are not trying to put forth the fact that women’s dressing sense or behavior is responsible for this state. Only if women would have openly come up and spoken against the perpetrators, then the situation might have different. “You can’t blame women for not coming out or speaking up,” protests Pragnya Pandey, a marketing communications specialist, working with one of the leading Indian IT firms. She further puts across her point, “Though personally I have never faced sexual harassment, but in my over 9 years of experience, I have heard about many cases and personally observed two. In both the cases, the complaints were lodged to higher organizational authorities, but sadly action against the perpetrator was taken. Now, considering that grievances address system of organizations is not strong enough, how do you expect ladies to come out and voice their concerns?” 
 
Prangya probably hit the nail on the head. 41% of women, who participated in the Nimbuzz survey, admitted that they fear speaking up against sexual harassment because of lack of confidence in the organization to take cognizance. 
 
Rinku Tyagi, also feels that lack of confidence in the organization is the first thing that stop women from putting forth their problems. She further added two more reasons to what stops women from talking about this issue openly. “The strong social taboo of sexual harassment often overwhelms women’s thoughts. And then there is the peer pressure that they won’t get their due promotions or appraisals if they would raise their voice in the so-far-male dominated hierarchical organizations.” 
 
 Now, this is a major point of concern when you consider that almost 62% of people feel that sexual harassment happens by peers. So, does this mean there is no way out? 
 
There sure is. Women only need to start raising their voices, and utilizing the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013, for their benefit. And the role that organizations can play involves: setting up an effective grievance system, and educate women employees about legal actions that they can take against the culprit.

47% Of Indian Women Find Sexual Harassment At The Workplace A Big Issue

While most results were close to what we had expected, some really astonished us. 
 <keyword id="6355645" type="COMPANY" weightage="40" keywordseo="android">Android</keyword> still is the most used OS and 52% of smartphone consumers use it. 15% of Indian mobile users are on BlackBerry and 13% are on iOS. Only 4% people use Windows Mobile. When asked about which android phone are you going to buy this summer? 33% said they will pick up the <keyword id="16129" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="HTC">HTC</keyword> One M8, 31% want to own the <keyword id="10591" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Samsung">Samsung</keyword> Galaxy S5 and 19% said they want to grab the Sony Xperia Z2. 
 
What astonished us is that people want Wi-Fi capabilities in their phones than anything else. 42% said Wi-Fi is the most important feature for them in a mobile, 36% want better camera quality and only for 14% people said the screen size mattered. We also asked the users if they prefer clicking pictures with the mobile or capture them with a digital camera? 64% people click with a smart phone while the rest prefer the good old digital camera. Over that, 78% of the quizzed public believes that producing phones within Indian will make them cheaper. Rest believe it would not. 
 
Some interesting facts were revealed in this survey that do state that the features like screen size and speaker quality, which once stood as priority for the mobile users, has now taken a backseat. Also, Google’s Android is the most used OS out there and will continue to dominate the market.

However, 76% of them balance it out by putting an average of 8 or more work hours every day. · 82% of the respondents smoke 5 or more cigarettes every day. But it’s noteworthy that 24% of those who smoke are ready to give up the habit if that increases their productivity at work. <keyword id="23666" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="40" keywordseo="stress">Stress</keyword> is the reason behind this practice.

List of 89 apps banned for Indian Army soldiers

Indian TV is getting a bit exciting. First, Star network brings a new channel with the latest international shows. Then <keyword id="6354700" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Anil-Kapoor">Anil Kapoor</keyword> wows the country with the Indian version of the popular American 24 series. Prior to this, we had seen the SMS and web login forms coming into play for reality TV shows, but this is probably the first time a chat client is coming into play for an Indian TV show. 2013 was a decent year for technology. Though we were expecting much more from it, we did see some nice innovations that grabbed our attention. Our expectations from <keyword id="45145" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="2014">2014</keyword> is very high, while wearable tech will be on the rise we are going to see some astounding innovations on the car tech front. We asked some of the tech and IT companies present in India about the <keyword id="877847" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Tech-trends">tech trends</keyword> they think will be on the rise in 2014 and here is what they had to say. 
 
BlackBerry – Ashish Gupta, Director, Marketing, India 
Machine2Machine is the next phase of innovation and is surely to become the next buzzword for consumers. Imagine if you can download a mobile app that helps you open your refrigerator or fill a cup of coffee at the vending machine or broadcast videos on your television set through your smartphone! The next big technology about to create waves is – Near Field Communications or NFC. Sure, we may not see a wild proliferation of NFC, but 2014 will be the year when brands will increasingly start offering the taste of the first fruits of NFC as mobile devices begin to adopt the technology. For the enterprise market, this means increased penetration of flash-based solutions to speed access to critical data, lower power consumption and reduce overall Total Cost of Ownership. For the smartphone and tablet markets, we believe that flash will continue to play a critical role in consumers being able to leverage smaller and lighter mobile devices with greater storage capacity. Today’s consumers are becoming increasingly mobile, which leads to an increase in the demand for products with small form factors that support their regime. There will be more and more connected mobile devices such as Smartphones and 3G Tablets than the traditional PC’s and Laptops. Consumers are expected to use at least three connected devices for their diverse needs ranging from editing spreadsheets, watching videos, or simply connecting with friends. Over the next 12 months, with increased and more effective connectivity, we will witness a significant majority of Indians being more connected to the Internet and with each other. While the consumer’s form factor of choice remains to be seen, hybrid devices, an interesting mix of PCs and tablets, may emerge as a winning proposition and Touch interface is expected to be more pervasive due to the positive experience rendered by Smartphones and Tablets.

Tablets running on the Android operating system are likely to lead the way. Smartphones with 3G are the norm now while early adopters are already moving on to models compatible with 4G networks. Operators are also going to try to experiment with phone subsidy plans which are much more common in the US to reduce the overall initial costs of purchasing a phone. With increased mobile usage this year, there will be a flood of apps in app markets, it’s going to become difficult for these apps’s to stand out from each other and many of them might convert into paid apps.
