For months, <keyword id="1858114" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Nikki-Finke">Nikki Finke</keyword> and her publisher, <keyword id="1043859" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Jay-Penske">Jay Penske</keyword>, have been at <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/nikki-finke-responds-to-sharon-waxman-2013-6" target="_blank">very public odds</a> over <a href="http://www.deadline.com/hollywood/" target="_blank">Deadline Hollywood</a> - the entertainment industry blog that Penske <a href="http://articles.latimes.com/2009/jun/24/business/fi-ct-deadline24" target="_blank">purchased from Finke for a seven-figure sum</a> in 2009.
As of this morning, the two have officially parted ways.
Finke first announced the news on <a href="https://twitter.com/NikkiFinke" target="_blank">her Twitter account</a> to her over 200,000 followers:

They wrote a <a href="http://www.deadline.com/2013/11/deadline-com-and-nikki-finke-parting-ways/" target="_blank">joint statement</a> on Deadline this morning:
Despite attempts by all to have it go otherwise, Nikki Finke will no longer be leading Deadline <keyword id="2370" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="hollywood">Hollywood</keyword>, and she will not be writing weekend box office or filing stories going forward. This is an emotional and painful parting of the ways for us. When we joined Deadline four years ago from The Hollywood Reporter and Variety (respectively), we felt that we were doing something disruptive and game-changing. That spirit is what brought us together and will keep us together, and the current team will remain on that path.

IT'S OFFICIAL: Nikki Finke Leaves Deadline - The Controversial Hollywood Blog She Founded 

<div class="image-container float_right"><div class="image">Deadline Hollywood's <keyword id="1858114" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Nikki-Finke">Nikki Finke</keyword> gave a candid interview to the WSJ about owner Penske media, "he issue is whether this shared vision is still intact."</div></div>
In 2009, Nikki Finke sold her online entertainment magazine <a href="http://www.deadline.com/hollywood/">Deadline Hollywood Daily</a> - famous for its original scoops - to Mail.com Media Group, an Internet company controlled by <keyword id="1043859" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Jay-Penske">Jay Penske</keyword>, for a whopping <a href="http://www.jewishjournal.com/hollywoodjew/item/nikki_finke_sells_deadline_hollywood_for_14_million_20090624">$14 million</a>. 
But when Penske also purchased Finke's competitor, Variety, last year, she wasn't happy.
Despite being owned by the same company, Deadline recently mocked Variety for its "humiliating loss of readership and influence."
Apparently, Finke was peeved that 34-year-old Chairman and CEO, Jay Penske, didn't give her a leading role at Variety, which is a direct competitor and has been around for longer than Deadline.
And now Finke wants out of Penske's <a href="http://www.pmc.com/company/" target="_blank">media empire</a>.
"Jay Penske shared my vision of what Deadline could be, [but] now circumstances have changed with the addition of Variety and the issue is whether this shared vision is still intact," <a href="http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424127887323893004579057311417605016.html" target="_blank">Finke tells The Wall Street Journal</a> in a candid new interview. "One of the most noble things Jay Penske could ever do would be to give me back Deadline." 
If Penske doesn't give Finke her site back, the veteran journalist says she will find an investor to help her buy the site back.
And if neither of those things happen, Finke will just start her own site, <a href="http://www.vulture.com/2013/08/report-nikki-finke-might-start-nikkifinkecom.html" target="_blank">the NikkiFinke.com</a> - which, she says, "would fill a different need for the Hollywood community" than Deadline.
Finke tells the WSJ she believes that in order for the publications to coexist as corporate siblings, they can't be direct competitors.
"It is very clear that our specialty is breaking news," Finke said of Deadline. "I would like to see Variety's specialty be analysis and commentary."
And in seemingly further hopes of keeping the peace, Finke tells the WSJ, "I have confidence that no matter what happens, Jay and I can reach an amicable solution to all of this."
A spokesperson for Penske, meanwhile, emailed the WSJ a flat reply: "We are very pleased with the overwhelming success of the Variety business since our acquisition, as well as <keyword id="1752334" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="60" keywordseo="Deadline-com">Deadline.com</keyword>'s continued growth of audience and revenue." 
While Finke's attorneys have proposed that she should be let out of her contract, which runs through 2016, the Penske rep says the company has "every intent to continue ... our contractual relationship with Ms. Finke through the end of her term."

"We had a great meeting, Jamie Dimon was there. I have a lot of respect for Jamie Dimon," Trump told the outlet, speaking about a meeting he had with a bunch of CEOs, which he called a "lovefest." And when asked if he had his eyes on Dimon for the position, Trump responded, "He is somebody that I would consider, sure." Based on Trump's Truth on Tuesday, it appears he's changed his mind about Dimon once again. As for BlackRock CEO Larry Fink, a <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://nypost.com/2024/07/20/business/the-odd-yet-interesting-choice-of-who-trump-may-tap-to-be-his-treasury-secretary/">New York Post columnist</a> wrote over the weekend that he was "told" Trump may prefer Fink over Dimon for the Treasury Secretary position. It's not clear where the columnist heard that. A representative for Fink declined to comment to BI. "After 30 years as a journalist, I'm now going to expose the hard truths and gritty reality of showbiz through creative writing."Finke made a call for writers who are interested in contributing to the paywalled site, though the first round of writers will have to be invited by Finke."I will accept submissions by invitation only because I first need to ensure you know enough about Hollywood to write intelligently about it," Finke said.Readers will be charged $1.o0 a post, the proceeds of which will partially go toward paying the writers. The most feared woman in entertainment journalism is starting a showbiz fiction website

A Hollywood legend returned from a long absence with guns blazing Thursday. 
Late last year, infamous columnist Nikki Finke <a href="http://www.buzzfeed.com/kateaurthur/is-this-nikki-finkes-final-post-on-deadline-hollywood">parted ways</a> with the site she founded, Deadline Hollywood. For months, Finke, who is known for rarely being photographed and for publishing no-holds-barred, gossipy scoops that terrify studio executives, remained silent as rumors swirled of a potential reconciliation with her old bosses along with reports they had her under a contract that would prevent her from working anywhere else until 2016.
Finke first began to stir last month when she posted a note on her personal website indicating the webpage would go "live" on June 2. However, <a href="http://www.buzzfeed.com/kateaurthur/no-one-really-wants-a-nikki-finke-comeback">when that date came and went</a> with nothing but a message from Finke blaming delays on "late-breaking developments," it seemed her absence from Tinseltown might really last.
However, Finke finally returned Thursday rising from the ashes like a foul-mouthed phoenix with <a href="http://nikkifinke.com/first-nikki-post/">an R-rated verbal barrage</a> slamming her former colleagues, her competitors, the Hollywood power structure, and her own commenters. 
Finke began her glorious return with <a href="http://nikkifinke.com/first-nikki-post/">a note on her personal site</a> that included an explanation of her exile from Tinseltown.
"I'm posting on my own website after sitting out my non-compete for 7 soul-crushing months. And that's why I designed my new logo to look the way it does - gritty and bullet-riddled with a fiery palm tree shooting sparks into the night sky more dramatically than any fancy klieg light," Finke explained. "Let those wimpy Hollywood websites do glossy or garish or rewrite press releases or post stenography instead of sturm und drang. I'm all about this town's gritty reality exposed through the harsh glare of my reporting."
She went on to offer some choice words for those other "wimpy Hollywood websites." Armed with an arsenal of incredible puns, Finke doled out sick burns to the current team at Deadline Hollywood and her other major competitors. She referred to Deadline, Variety, The Wrap, and The Hollywood Reporter as "Deadlame," "Valiety," "The Hollywood Unreported," and "The Crap."
Finke had especially harsh words for Deadline. She promised she would have "much more to say over the next few days about Little Lord Fauntleroy and Mike Phlegming," an apparent reference to Penske Corporation heir Jay Penske, who <a href="http://articles.latimes.com/2009/jun/24/business/fi-ct-deadline24">purchased Deadline from her in 2009</a>, and the site's film editor, Mike Fleming. Finke did not respond to a request from Business Insider asking to clarify the references. She wrote that she would delay discussing them because, "I don't fuck on the first date."
In addition to trashing the competition and promising to be the "cruel and quirky alternative," Finke outlined "a few rules of the road" for her readers.
"Just like I can't be silenced or intimidated here, your comments won't get sanitized. (Even the inevitable four-letter words about my genitals.) I'll monitor your comments but never alter them," she said.
Overall, Finke said her "new website is not for the easily offended or ridiculously naïve." That seems abundantly clear.

Meaning that there will be both a <keyword id="90712" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="21st-century">21st Century</keyword> <keyword id="17242" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Fox">Fox</keyword> and a 20th Century Fox.

We, however, fail to see power exuding from the new logo. The font almost appears too casual for such a substantial media giant.

Brand New 21st Century Fox Unveils Logo - And It Isn't Great

David Letterman <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/david-letterman-retiring-2014-4" target="_blank">just announced</a> he's <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/david-letterman-retirement-announcement-video-2014-4" target="_blank">retiring next year</a> and the rumor mill is already buzzing over who will replace him at the "Late Show."
As of now, there are four main names being tossed around: Craig Ferguson, Stephen Colbert, Conan O'Brien, and Chelsea Handler. Let's see how they stack up.
1. Craig Ferguson
<div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image">CBS/"Late Show With David Letterman"</div></div></div> 
Longtime "Late Late Show" host Craig Ferguson - whose 12:35am CBS show immediately follows Letterman's - reportedly has <a href="http://splitsider.com/2014/04/david-letterman-announced-hes-retiring-in-2015/" target="_blank">right of first refusal</a> in his contract for the "Late Show" gig. However, CBS may have the option to buy him out and hire a different host.
Here's <a href="http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=980DEFDC1E3FF937A35757C0A9649D8B63">how The New York Times' Bill Carter described it</a>:

[Ferguson's] previous contracts with CBS have included what amounts to a "Prince of Wales" clause, giving Mr. Ferguson the right to inherit the late-night show in the 11:35 p.m. time period should Mr. Letterman decide to leave. (Those clauses have never been ironclad, however, because a network can choose to pay off the deal rather than complete the succession, as Mr. Letterman learned when Mr. Leno was chosen to succeed Mr. Carson in 1992.)

"Ferguson's CBS contract also expires in 2015, so if CBS opts to buy him out instead of giving him the prestigious 'Late Show,' he could end up leaving the network altogether, leaving the network's 12:35 slot vacant, as well," <a href="http://splitsider.com/2014/04/david-letterman-announced-hes-retiring-in-2015/" target="_blank">reports Splitsider</a>.
But considering "The Late Late Show" is produced by Letterman's Worldwide Pants company, it could be an ideal transition.
2. Stephen Colbert

Entertainment blogger Nikki Finke apparently has <a href="https://twitter.com/NikkiFinke" target="_blank">sources who say</a> Stephen Colbert is "the only one on the air currently that CBS is considering."
The report doesn't sound too outlandish, as Colbert's contract with Comedy Central is up at the end of 2014 - making Letterman's 2015 exit ideal timing. 
3. Conan O' Brien

In 1993, Conan O'Brien succeed eed David Letterman on NBC's "Late Night" and it worked out well, so why not try again?
After spending the last four years on TBS following an <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010_Tonight_Show_conflict" target="_blank">embarrassing firing</a> at NBC's "Tonight Show" in 2010, we're sure Conan would like to take revenge while sitting at Letterman's CBS desk.
The timing could be a bit tricky with Conan's TBS <a href="http://splitsider.com/2013/04/tbs-renews-conan-through-2015/" target="_blank">contract not being up</a> until November 2015, but so far Letterman has only <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/david-letterman-retirement-announcement-video-2014-4" target="_blank">said he will leave</a> "sometime in the not too distant future - 2015 for the love of god." So there's still plenty of time to figure out the exact details. 
4. Chelsea Handler
<div class="KonaFilter image-container"><div class="image">E! Entertainment/"Chelsea Lately"</div></div> 
It is ironic timing that Chelsea Handler <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/chelsea-handler-leaving-e-but-has-7-suitors-lined-up-2014-3" target="_blank">announced earlier this week</a> that she is leaving the E! network but already has seven mysterious "suitors lined up."
The "Chelsea Lately" host will leave E! when her contract expires at the end of 2014, which would make for perfect "Late Show" takeover timing.
One fan who thinks it could actually happen? Chris Rock, who <a href="https://www.facebook.com/chris.rock.127" target="_blank">posted the news</a> of Letterman's retirement on his private Facebook account, with his bet for a replacement.

Ironically, Letterman's replacement was the <a href="http://www.thewire.com/entertainment/2014/04/spitballing-about-possible-letterman-replacements-its-never-too-soon/360147/" target="_blank">plot line</a> of a three-part "Louie" arc which placed Chris Rock, Jerry Seinfeld (do it, Jerry!), and Louis C.K. himself as the top contenders.
Other candidates whose contracts are up in 2015? Jimmy Kimmel and Jon Stewart, but both seem unlikely to quit their day jobs any time soon.
Even Neil Patrick Harris' name is being thrown into the ring. With his hit CBS show "How I Met Your Mother" <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/how-i-met-your-mother-series-finale-reactions-2014-3" target="_blank">just ending</a> this week and already having proven he can host live Emmy Awards shows for the network - the timing may be right.
