 In a first of its kind collaboration, <keyword id="8959" type="COMPANY" weightage="40" keywordseo="MTV">MTV</keyword> India and Hindustan Unilever are coming together to launch '<keyword id="2118469" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="MTV-Films">MTV Films</keyword>'. A unique initiative, MTV Films will present six original films by six young, cutting-edge, cult directors of new age Bollywood: Anurag Basu, Anurag Kashyap, Rohan Sippy, Nikhil Advani, Abhinay Deo and Shoojit Sircar, each a stalwart in his own right.
 Starting March 23, 2014 at 7 PM, one director's movie will be showcased each month for six months which will be inspired by the philosophies of different <keyword id="44863" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="HUL">HUL</keyword> brands such as Sunsilk, Tresemme, Ponds, Lakme and Close Up amongst others. Through each movie, the iconic directors will portray the take of today's youth on age-old topics of love, family, friendship, relationships and ambitions in an hour-long entertaining story.

MTV, HUL Join Hands To Launch 'MTV Films'

The first trailer of UTV Motion Picture’s upcoming movie Katti Batti has been released, and it’s a three-minute-long wild ride of madness and emotions. The pairing of <keyword id="2201" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Kangana-Ranaut">Kangana Ranaut</keyword> and <keyword id="14676" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Imran-Khan">Imran Khan</keyword> looks unusual, but that is the demand of the story, which has been helmed by Kal Ho Naa Ho fame <keyword id="6412743" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Nikhil-Advani">Nikhil Advani</keyword>. 
 
Featuring a commitment-phobic spoilt brat Payal and a lover nerd Maddy, this story, which subtly hints at how the essence of love has changed over the years, focuses on the new-age romance and break-ups. In the trailer, Imran Khan, who dons the role of a geek Madhav Kabra, was seen falling for a bombshell Payal, played by Kangana Ranaut. Madhav, luckily, manages to woo her and they both even start living together. But after a 5-year-long relationship, this couple eventually had a break up because of petty issues like bathroom hygiene. 
 
While Kangana is at her wild best in the movie, handing over packets of birth protection to the landlord just to show that they want to rent a flat to raise kids; Imran plays the usual, soft-hearted guy who is hopelessly in love with a girl who has an exact opposite personality. 
 
The trailer showcases a possible suicide attempt, some tear shedding, and even the alcoholic drinking act while sitting in a bathtub, and all these were done by Imran. Kangana, who manages to look careless, comes across as someone who doesn’t take 5 minutes to break off a 5-year-long live-in relationship.

While there were reports that <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Kangana-in-a-double-role-again-this-time-in-Katti-Batti/articleshow/47644084.cms">Kangana would be playing a double role</a> of Bijlee and Payal in the movie, it seems that Bijlee is what Payal wants to be called. Besides several news reports, a thunderstorm tattoo inked on her right leg also hints the same. 
 
This movie is scheduled to be released on September 18, 2015.

Kangana in a double role again; this time in Katti Batti

The reigning queen of <keyword id="143" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bollywood">Bollywood</keyword>, <keyword id="2201" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Kangana-Ranaut">Kangana Ranaut</keyword>, had always been vocal about her wish of experimenting with other aspects of movie-making rather than just focusing on acting. 
 
For her love of cinema, the actress even did a short course in screenplay writing from New York Film Academy. Looks like the dream has come true for the Tanu Weds Manu Returns star, who has gone behind the camera for her upcoming film <keyword id="2218524" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Katti-Batti">Katti Batti</keyword>, co-starring <keyword id="14676" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Imran-Khan">Imran Khan</keyword>. 
 
The first seven minutes of the movie have been directed by the actress who took the blessings of cinematographer Tushar Kantiray before using the camera, and offered him Re 1 as shagun for his blessings. 
 
The scene was one of Advani’s favorite scenes from the screenplay, in which Kangana’s character is shooting Imran with an iPad. For authenticity, Tushar suggested that Kangana shoots the scene herself, and the Kal Ho Naa Ho director was very happy with the way Kangana handled the camera. Way to go girl!!

Now, Kangana turns director for Katti Batti

He is surely one of the most versatile actors of Indian cinema, and has had a pretty decent career entertaining the masses. Be it his charming smile, his loud choice of colors, or the way he moves his body in street dances, <keyword id="6381730" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="govinda">Govinda</keyword> has somehow always related to a common Indian, making him one of India’s most loved actors. 
 
Starting his career in 1986 with the movie Ilzaam, Govinda has been a part of more than 150 films, but this journey has not been smooth. Many a times in his career, he has faced setbacks and career pauses, only to try and strike back later. 
 
The first setback that he faced in his career was in early 2000s, right after he faced enormous success in the 1990s. In the early 2000s, a number of his films failed to perform commercially. He also turned down roles in several movies like Taal, the role was later played by Anil Kapoor; and Devdas, the role was later played by Jackie Shroff. Both the movies went on to garner critical and commercial success. 
 
It was not that Govinda was rejecting these roles for something bigger or better. The films that he did during those times accounted only for his screen presence and nothing else. There was nothing new that he could offer, nothing for which audience could have gone for his movies, and as a result, the movies tanked, leaving Govinda with no hopes to cling to. 
 
Only in his 30s, which is generally the golden period in an Indian actor’s career, he had begun to lose out on films; and thanks to better choices, his contemporaries were establishing themselves as bigger actors. 
 Another problem in his acting career was his career as a politician. He took a sabbatical from acting in 2003, only to return in 2005, albeit with either the same roles or the release of his delayed movies, all of which turned out to be disasters. It isn’t in vain what they say in <keyword id="143" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bollywood">Bollywood</keyword>, out of sight means out of mind. 
 
His minor relief came in the form of Bhagam Bhag, where he finally agreed to do a two-hero movie. His impeccable comic timing paired with a strong script worked for him, and his performance was well complemented by <keyword id="2823" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Akshay-Kumar">Akshay Kumar</keyword>. The movie became a hit and people thought that Govinda had returned. 
 
Later, he did a critically successful role of an Indian taxi driver falling in love with a foreigner traveller in Salaam-e-Ishq. However, the major success came in his way in the form of Partner, a movie that offered the fresh pairing of Govinda and <keyword id="6354850" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Katrina-Kaif">Katrina Kaif</keyword>, also starring <keyword id="6354583" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Salman-Khan">Salman Khan</keyword> and Lara Dutta. The film, which was a huge hit, is recalled as one of the greatest hits of his career. 
 
However, he could not maintain the success and did commercial duds like Money Hai Toh Honey Hai. Other than one or two stable films, Govinda’s career had again taken a setback. 
 
In late 2000s and early 2010s, movies like Do Knot Disturb, Raavan, Naughty @ 40, Loot, Deewana Main Deewana and Samadhi did nothing to revive his sinking career. 
 
2014 is nearing its end, Govind Arun Ahuja has crossed his golden 40s, and is seen only in one movie, Holiday, as of yet. Even that role can easily be termed as a guest appearance. He would now be seen in some big-budget movies like <keyword id="1172963" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Kill-Dil">Kill Dil</keyword> and <keyword id="713574" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Happy-Ending">Happy Ending</keyword> in 2014 and Hero and <keyword id="1704167" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Jagga-Jasoos">Jagga Jasoos</keyword> in 2015. 
 
Although his roles in both the movies releasing this year look promising, whether these movies will again mark his comeback or would just add to many of his failed attempts, remains to be seen.

The Many Comebacks Of Govinda

'<keyword id="400044" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="freedom-at-midnight" source="Orion">Freedom at Midnight</keyword>', a <keyword id="6785745" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="new-web-series" source="Orion">new web series</keyword> about the Partition of India, based on the book of same name by Dominique Lapierre and Larry Collins, is currently in the works. The show, described as an epic political thriller/drama that highlights several incidents from the year of India's independence and interconnected stories about crucial events and personalities who played a significant role in writing the country's history as we know today. The series will see 'Kal Ho Naa Ho' director Nikkhil Advani as the show runner with the story penned by Abhinandan Gupta, Adwitiya Kareng Das and Gundeep Kaur. Commenting on the development, Nikkhil said in a statement, "The year 1947 has been etched in India's history as the year that shaped its fate. A riveting, emotional tale of an incident that altered the course of the nation, 'Freedom at Midnight' is an attempt to bring to Indians the whole truth about the events that led us to our freedom - the courage, and the hope instilled in people by the personages who gave us the new India." StudioNext and Emmay Entertainment (Monisha Advani, Madhu Bhojwani and Nikkhil Advani) have joined the forces on the project to co-produce the same. Once ready, the series will stream on OTT platform SonyLIV, which recently clocked 18.2 million subscribers placing it as India's second largest video-on-demand or SVoD service only after Disney+ Hotstar, media report said. Nikkhil further mentioned in his statement, "This is a story every Indian should know, and I feel honoured to be able to tell it along with my partners, Monisha and Madhu, and the team of writers, along with StudioNext. It is even more special for Emmay Entertainment that we get to bring this story to SonyLIV after our successful stint with 'Rocket Boys'. The platform has been at the forefront of narrating the stories of the homeland, and I look forward to associating with them on this project too." The most famous book on Indian independence 'Freedom at midnight' to be made into a web series

From his end, the comic is raising funds through 'Vir Das At Home' where he performs for an audience online."We are going to need to smile now more than ever and for a while. If you're a funny person, this is the time to do your job. The best you've ever done it... I'm trying to focus on fundraising. I'm doing a show every night on Zoom call where the proceeds are going to different charities. "This lockdown won't affect the privileged as much. We have got to do our part. So my main focus during the lockdown is to try and raise money," Das told .Before the pandemic brought everything to a standstill, Das had planned a world tour of 29 countries, which naturally got pushed.There has been a lot of conversation about how the way people consume entertainment stands to change post coronavirus. As a comic, who is used to performing in front of a large gathering, Das feels the impact will be there for sometime, but eventually, the urge to laugh will gather people together."Those are the things that come and go. From court jesters, impressionists, Jaspal Bhatti, Johnny Lever to us and the people who come after us, the urge to sit in a room and laugh with each other together, will always find a way back. That I'm not so worried about."The actor is currently gearing up for the release of the Netflix series, "Hasmukh", co-created by Das and filmmaker Nikkhil Advani.The series features Das in the titular role of a young man from Saharanpur, who has to kill people off stage to perform better on stage. The actor had written a pilot, nearly three years ago, and taken it to the "Kal Ho Naa Ho" director who felt it was funny but needed "more darkness and gravity."Together, they worked on it for six-seven months, got it green-lit and then ran a writers room. "Comedy isn't so much about telling jokes, it's about being yourself and telling jokes. 'Hasmukh' is this awkward, shy, man who has a lot of anger inside him. Which is who I was when I got into comedy, except I don't murder people. "But the first time I got a laugh was when I went on stage and yelled at a bunch of people. I was 22, life wasn't going well, I couldn't make rent, girls weren't talking to me and I yelled out all of that stuff."The series, directed by Nikhil Gonsalves, also features Ranvir Shorey, Manoj Pahwa, Ravi Kishan, Amrita Bagchi, Suhail Nayyar, Inaamulhaq and Raza Murad.With "Hasmukh", the 40-year-old "Go Goa Gone" actor got a chance to create a lot of the characters and deep dive in the "outrageous" universe of the show."I got to write them as really loud characters. Nikkhil really led me on 'Hasmukh.' We decided that I would be the in-charge of who Hasmukh is on stage and Nikkhil gets to shape who he is off stage. "He's a passive, underconfident character surrounded by these loud maniacs. That's what makes him frustrated and pop when he murders. He's only ever free when he murders or is on stage." Writing the show was a challenge on multiple levels for Das as Hasmukh is "diametrically opposite" to the comic. "He's a small town boy, a Hindi comedian. Also, to write for an artiste who doesn't know his voice yet. He's a terrible comedian, he's clueless. It's a very outrageous universe for a show."When I first came to Mumbai, I was a writer on various GEC (General Entertainment Channels) comedy and award shows. So a lot of it is also based on what I saw- the big, glamorous GEC world of those. But to try and add darkness to that was a challenge," he added."Hasmukh" produced for Applause Entertainment by Emmay Entertainment, will debut on Netflix on April 17. JUR BKBK

We all know that Salman Khan is launching his protégé <keyword id="1623055" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sooraj-Pancholi">Sooraj Pancholi</keyword> (Son of Aditya Pancholi) along with <keyword id="928985" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Athiya-Shetty">Athiya Shetty</keyword> (daughter of Suniel Shetty) in the official remake of the 1983 film Hero, in the debut production of his banner, <keyword id="1542347" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Salman-Khan-films">Salman Khan Films</keyword>. The movie’s fate was in question after Sooraj was accused of being responsible for the death of his alleged girlfriend Jiah Khan, but her death was later ruled as suicide. 
 
The first official trailer of the movie, which has been named after the original movie, is out, and Sooraj Pancholi definitely looks like the next big thing. 
 
With the toned physique and a rugged, tattooed look, we see him portraying Sooraj, a goon who has kidnapped the daughter of the IG of police, with whom he later falls in love with. Athiya, in her role as Radha, looks innocent and convincing at what was required from her end. 
The trailer is full of action scenes and we also hear the title track of the movie being played in the background in some scenes. 
 
Three words get highlighted in the trailer: rebels, love and freedom, and looks like the movie is going to be as interesting as the 1983 original, which is remembered for the earnest performances of Jackie Shroff and Meenakshi Sheshadri in the lead roles. 
 
The script has been re-written by Nikhil Advani, whohas also directed the movie, along with Umesh Bisht. Co-produced by Mukta Arts, the banner that produced the original, Eros International, Emmay Entertainment and Salman Khan Films, the movie would release on 11th September.

Hero: The saga of rebels, love and freedom

<keyword id="6354583" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Salman-Khan">Salman Khan</keyword>, who has turned producer to launch protégé <keyword id="1623055" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sooraj-Pancholi">Sooraj Pancholi</keyword> in his <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Hero-The-saga-of-rebels-love-and-freedom/articleshow/48085855.cms">upcoming movie Hero</a>, is making sure that the debut venture is a roaring success. 
 
From training Sooraj in building his physique to being with him at movie’s press conferences, Salman is using his experience in the industry as well as his star-status to create buzz for the movie. 
 
A few days back, images of Salman in a recording studio went around the internet, forcing us to think if the ‘<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Salman-Khan-scolds-Twitter-followers-like-a-Bhai/articleshow/47612143.cms">bhai</a>’ of <keyword id="143" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bollywood">Bollywood</keyword> has lent his voice to the film. This has indeed happened, as confirmed by a teaser of Salman singing a love song, which would make the title track of the movie. 
 The song is ‘Main Hoon <keyword id="7029" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Hero">Hero</keyword> Tera’ and would feature the lead actors of the movie. The teaser was shared by Khan himself, on the social networking site Twitter.

The last time we heard Salman singing was for the song Hangover, from the movie Kick. However, it’s for the first time that Salman has sung for someone else, and in fact, he is the only Bollywood actor of his times to have done so. In the past, we have seen Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan singing portions of their songs for themselves. 
 
Earlier, Shruti Haasan had <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Shruti-Haasan-Sets-A-New-Trend-With-Joganiyan/articleshow/45525300.cms">lent her voice</a> to Sonakshi Sinha for the song Joganiyan from the movie Tevar.

The movie has been directed by Nikhil Advani (the director of another upcoming movie <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Meet-the-commitment-phobic-Payal-and-the-lover-boy-Maddy-From-Katti-Batti/articleshow/47675125.cms">Katti Batti</a>) and is the remake of Subhash Ghai’s 1983 film of the same name. In the main lead, we would see Sooraj Pancholi, the son of yesteryear actor Aditya Pancholi, and <keyword id="928985" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Athiya-Shetty">Athiya Shetty</keyword>, the daughter of actor Sunil Shetty.

Salman Khan lends his voice to protégé Sooraj Pancholi for Hero

June is at the fag end and we almost have a mid-year report card of Bollywood. Though the year started on a dismal note, it picked up towards May and June. 
 
This year, January was like a drought month and even movies starring big names did not interest the audience. As Arjun Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha starrer-'Tevar'- failed to take off, even the Horrex (horror + sex) formula did not work out for ‘Alone’ and ‘Khamoshiyan’. 
 
Other movies that released in January and failed to make a mark included Sonam Kapoor-starrer ‘Dolly Ki Doli’, 'Sharafat Gayi Tel Lene', ‘Crazy Cukkad Family’, ‘Hawaizaada’ among others. 
 
The only respite that the Bollywood lovers got was from Akshay Kumar’s ‘Baby’, which also became the first movie of 2015 to enter the Rs 100 crore club. 
 
But the jinx did not end in January as February continued to bring more bad news for the industry. 
 
The big shocker came in the form of ‘Shamitabh’. The movie, starring Amitabh Bachchan and Dhanush, was directed by R Balki, the maker who has given us movies like Pa and Cheeni Kum. 
 
Later in the month, ‘Roy’ released, which recorded a good start but by weekend the movie fizzled out. Most trade pundits pegged the crucial India-Pakistan match at the World Cup as the reason for the drop of sales on Sunday but the movie could not recover much post this phase also because of negative word of mouth. 
 
Thankfully, later in the same month we had movies like ‘Badlapur’ and ‘Dum Laga Ke Haisha’. Both managed to gather decent collections at the Box Office. In fact, ‘Dum Laga Ke Haisha’ was a complete surprise package and managed to pull crowds even in its third week . 
 
March threw a mixed bag as Anushka Sharma starrer 'NH-10' received critical acclaim. April again was a dry month as Bollywood had nothing to offer that could have clicked with the Bolly buffs. 
 
However, Bollywood saw a turnaround in May. It started on a high note with Akshay Kumar starrer ‘Gabbar is Back’, which went to collect Rs 86.55 crore at the Box Office. This was followed by Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan and Irrfan Khan’s 'Piku', which struck a right chord with the audience and collected Rs 111 crore worldwide. 
 
Later in the month, Kangana Ranaut wowed the audience with her spectacular acting in ‘Tanu Weds Manu Returns’. As per reports, the movie managed to collect Rs 190.87 crore worldwide. Given that the movie was made with Rs 31 crore budget, it stood out and is the most profitable movie of 2015 till date. 
 
But, the disappointment came from ‘Bombay Velvet’. Everybody had high hopes from Ranbir Kapoor’s flick but it fell flat. 
 
The momentum seems to continue with ‘Dil Dhadakne Do’ and ‘ABCD 2’. ‘Dil Dhadakne Do’ has managed Rs 37.05 crore in the first weekend and is holding the fort well. Also ABCD 2, sequel of ABCD, managed to get the biggest opening for 2015 and continues to do a good business over the week. 
 
The later half will see a slew of big- starrer movies such as Salman Khan starrer ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’, Vikas Bahl of Queen fame’s ‘Shaandaar’, ‘Singh is Bling’ featuring Akshay Kumar, Nikhil Advani’s ‘Katti Batti’, Aishwarya Rai’s comeback movie ‘Jazbaa’ and also ‘Dilwale’ in which fans will see Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol paired together. In addition, there will also be a third installment of ‘Hate Story’, ‘Hera Pheri’ and ‘Kya Kool Hai Hum’ to look forward to. 
 
Commenting on the movie sentiment of 2015, Komal Nahata, Trade Analyst shared, “It has been a good 2015 so far. Sure there were some upsets in the start of the year but May has been extremely kind and the rest of the year looks really promising." 
 
We hope that the forthcoming movies get the cash ringer buzzing for Bollywood and we continue to see some entertaining movies in the latter half of the year.
