New Delhi, Feb 19 () NIIT Ltd on Wednesday said it has approved the proposal of voluntary liquidation of its wholly-owned subsidiaries NIIT Institute of Process Excellence Ltd (NIPE) and NIIT Yuva Jyoti Ltd (NYJL). "The Board of Directors of NYJL and NIPE, respectively have recommended the voluntary liquidation of the respective company in accordance with the applicable laws. The company has approved the proposal of voluntary liquidation as shareholder of NYJL and NIPE, in accordance with applicable laws," NIIT said in a regulatory filing. In October last year, NIIT had said NIPE and NYJL will transfer their business, contractual obligations and all assets and liabilities to the company in order to simplify operations, rationalise low return, high risk and capital intensive business and create space for growth. Further, NYJL and NIPE are be closed to conserve the management and administrative costs, as per appropriate legal process, the company had said. In a separate filing, NIIT said its board has declared an interim dividend of Rs 8 per equity share for the financial year 2019-20. March 3, 2020 has been fixed as the 'record date' for the purpose of ascertaining the eligibility of shareholders for payment of the interim dividend, it added. SR ABM

NIIT approves liquidation of subsidiaries NIPE, NYJL

New Delhi, Nov 23 () Former ISRO Chairman K Kasturirangan has taken over as the new chairperson of the NIIT University (NU).
 The announcement was made at NIIT University's 11th Annual Lecture at Neemrana on Saturday.
 Kasturirangan succeeds former Member of Parliament Karan Singh as the new chairperson of the not-for-profit university.
 A Padma Vibhushan recipient, Kasturirangan headed the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) from 1994 to 2003. He has also served as the Chancellor of Central University of Rajasthan.
 He chaired the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) Committee to draft the National Education Policy, and submitted it to the Union HRD minister in May 2019.
 "We are grateful to Dr Karan Singh for guiding NU in its formative years as the founding chairperson. His view that NU gives a glimpse of what future educational institutions can be has inspired us over these last 10 years," NIIT University founder and chairman of NIIT Ltd, Rajendra S Pawar, said.
 He added that Kasturirangan's exemplary background and diverse experience will enable the educational institution to inject a fresh perspective and further strengthen the core values of NIIT University.

Former ISRO chief Kasturirangan to take over as NIIT University chairperson

New Delhi, Feb 5 () NIIT, a global leader in skills and talent development, on Wednesday reported 40 per cent jump in consolidated net profit to Rs 27.1 crore for December quarter 2019-20 on account of increase in demand from corporate sector. The company had garnered a profit of Rs 19.4 crore in the same period a year ago."During the quarter, NIIT delivered strong Profit After Tax of Rs 27.1 crore, up 40 per cent year-on-year on the back of strong growth of 17 per cent year-on-year in corporate learning group (CLG). We started Canada business two years back which has started delivering now," NIIT Vice Chairman and Managing Director Vijay K Thadani told .Overseas market led by the US and Europe contributed 77 per cent of the total corporate learning group business, Thadani said. NIIT recorded 10 per cent growth in its consolidated revenue to Rs 247.6 crore during the quarter under review from Rs 225.5 crore in the year-ago period. CLG recorded net revenue of Rs 189.5 crore. Thadani said the company is planning to build more training capacities for the technology vertical especially in areas like augmented and virtual reality. During the quarter, the company completed buyback of 2.68 crore equity shares after approval from the shareholders of the company at Rs 125 per share, representing approximately 16 per cent of the total paid up equity share capital for an aggregate amount of Rs 335 crore, exclusive of taxes. NIIT Q3 profit rises 40 pc to Rs 27 cr

New Delhi, Mar 13 () Skills and talent development company NIIT on Friday said it will not hold classes in its education centres located in Delhi-NCR until further notice amid the coronavirus outbreak. "In compliance with Delhi government order to close all educational institutions as a precautionary measure to control COVID-19 spread, NIIT has decided not to hold classes in its education centres located in Delhi- NCR, until further notice," NIIT Senior Vice President (Corporate Communications and Marketing) Prateek Chatterjee said in a statement.He added that the company is reviewing the situation and will keep the students informed on a regular basis. "Till such time the classes restart, we are working on online modes of imparting training to our learners to minimise disruption," he said. The number of coronavirus patients in India has risen to 75, as per health ministry records. The national capital has so far recorded six cases of coronavirus. The Delhi government on Thursday ordered all educational institutions in the national capital including schools and colleges to be closed till March 31 in view of the coronavirus outbreak. More than 1,30,000 cases of the novel coronavirus have been recorded in 116 countries and territories, killing at least 4,900 people. SR ANSANS

New Delhi, Apr 9 () Skills and talent development company NIIT Ltd on Thursday said it has specially designed and launched a 'Remote Work Excellence Kit' course to support the fight against Covid-19 crisis. Aimed at helping facilitate remote working for adults, the Remote Work Excellence Kit is suited for corporate executives, small and medium businesspersons, and management students, a statement said. The online course covers areas such as how to set up a remote office, establishing a remote presence, setting up and running virtual meetings, time management while working from home, remote business etiquettes, and also best practices, it added. Covid-19: NIIT launches free course to facilitate remote working

From spreading IT literacy across the country to exclusively providing IT solutions to India Inc, NIIT rapidly grew big. Its IT arm, NIIT Technologies, has been working on some ambitious projects, especially in the travel sector, this year. In an exclusive interview with BI India, Mr <keyword id="125625" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Arvind-Thakur">Arvind Thakur</keyword>, CEO, NIIT Technologies talks about the company’s key strengths, the future of IT industry and the challenges faced by it. Here are some excerpts: 
	 
	From computer training in 1980s to offering software services to different sectors in the country, how has the journey been till now? 
	 
	As NIIT went about establishing the foundations of IT literacy in India, it drew under its umbrella both individual as well as corporate learners. Seeing its corporate customers grapple with IT deployment issues, the company initiated steps to go beyond its training mandate and help its clients understand their IT needs, pick the relevant technologies and assist in the implementation. While it is well known that NIIT pioneered the concept of computer training, a lesser known fact is that NIIT also pioneered the packaged software distribution business in India. 
	 
	The 1990s represented a turning point for the company and the country. It was a period, when faced with an acute foreign exchange crisis and oil-pool deficit, India was looking at globalization. It was then we embarked on its overseas journey, towards the world’s largest market, the US, and towards Singapore, an IT-savvy nation in need of technology solutions. It grew its software business globally thereafter on the back of the e-Commerce boom. 
	 
	The year 2000 experienced the dot com meltdown. Companies focussed on e-Commerce were severely impacted which called for the organization to reinvent itself. In 2004, the software arm of the company was spun off into an independent entity, which is now NIIT Technologies Ltd. 
	 
	NIIT Technologies caters to several industries. Could you please tell us which are your key strength areas in terms of 
	revenues? (Kindly share some estimated figures if possible) 
	 
	NIIT Technologies has metamorphosed into a global company with operations across all major geographies. We compete on the strength of our specialization. This has come about as a result of our sharp focus on serving select industry segments. 
	 
	Travel and transportation contributes to 37% of our overall revenues and is a segment where we have a strong presence. We are among the top 3 amongst our peers in this space by virtue of the deep domain knowledge and investments in technology platforms in this space. 
	BFSI contributes to 34% of revenues where we have a leadership position in certain sub segments like Commercial Insurance by virtue of our investments in mission-critical platforms. 
	 
	We have made inroads in the Auto industry in the manufacturing sector, which contributes to 7% of revenues. Our strong specialized solutions in Geographic Information Systems positions us uniquely in the Government sector. 
	 
	We have a simple strategy; to “focus and differentiate”. The strategy for each segment remains the same i.e. build deeper specialization and compete on the strength of this specialization. Through our service vision “New Ideas, More Value” we are constantly innovating to provide exceptional value to our customers. 
	 
	Airlines, auto, insurance, logistics haven’t performed well in the last three years especially in the last year. Did the slowdown in these sectors impact your company? What is your forecast for these sectors in the coming months? 
	 
	Each industry is unique in its spend on technology. The Airline industry has used technology to help it navigate the challenges of the environment and in fact we have seen good growth in revenues from this segment. Insurance has a more traditional outlook and tends to cut back on technology spend during difficult times. In the Commercial Insurance space in particular we have seen some stagnation in technology spend as a result of the increased number of catastrophes witnessed in the last few years. 
	 
	As the global markets recover from the economic slowdown, we’ll see these sectors improve on their performance. The latest data released by the IATA earlier this month indicates that global passenger traffic has been showing a pick-up in demand and that the global air freight market too is witnessing continued growth in air cargo volumes. Confidence levels within the insurance industry, appears to be gradually improving. 
	 
	The industry research firm Celent in a recent report observed that there is renewed optimism among UK insurers which is starting to result in increased activity. Recent PMI data finds signs of a renewed upturn in emerging market economies, which account for much of global manufacturing, with business activity growing. 
	 
	According to the current scenario, SMAC is being touted as the future of the IT sector. How far do you agree with the statement? Do you expect SMAC to grow big in the Indian market? Do you also expect SMAC to turn the fortunes of IT industry? 
	 
	A whole new set of opportunities are being created by SMAC collectively known as Digital Services which are expected to drive 25-30% of incremental revenues for the IT sector over the next 5 years. Indeed these emerging technologies are expected to turn the fortunes of the IT industry. These are disruptive technologies, which will impact different industries in different ways globally and provides a huge opportunity for the IT Industry. 
	 
	In India, there is an enormous unmet demand for basic goods and services hampered by high inefficiencies. SMAC and other emerging digital technologies like IoT (Internet of Things) can help the country address these challenges. However, lack of infrastructure which includes bandwidth and network coverage, and also low digital literacy is a hindrance. Prime Minister Modi’s “Digitial India” initiative holds the promise to change this which will create another big opportunity. 
	 
	NIIT Technologies also offers cloud and mobility services. Kindly tell us which sectors are the key users of this service? Could you please give us some specific examples of the kind of solutions offered by the company?

	According to you, what is the future trend of the Indian IT industry as well as what are the challenges in this sector? 
	 
	The IT services market will be reshaped by consumerization and digital business transformation opportunities. Customers seek outcomes and experiences while companies sell products and services. Digital Services provide the opportunity to craft new experiences. It has the potential of disrupting existing business models. 
	 
	Investments in technology will continue to rise dramatically, led by services. However, there is likely to be a dramatic shift in engagement from “traditional on premise” services to a “sharing and marketplace” world. The enterprise of the future will embrace Digital Services like never before creating customised digital products, disrupting channels through digital disintermediation, driving data-driven decisions using big data and analytics, and creating end-to-end digital processes. 
	 
	This will pose challenges for the industry as the mind-set of the work force will need to change from being doers to become problem definers. The world will have fewer high skill workers for the new roles created by Digital Services requiring significant talent development. The enterprise of the future will require the industry to change course from traditional IT to embrace platform-based services and the cloud. 
	 
	Lastly, kindly tell us about the company’s expansion plans in the current fiscal year as well as the next five years in terms of investments, recruitment among others. 
	 
	With the economy showing signs of recovery the company has put renewed emphasis in expanding its business in the US. To this effect it had engaged a global adviser to put in place the right framework and practices to drive its full potential in the geography. We also see Infrastructure Management Services as a significant growth engine and have carved out this business as a separate business unit to give it the right focus. 
	 
	We believe we have an opportunity to assume a leadership position in Travel and Transportation segment and we are focussed on a significant number of large deals in this sector. Offerings around digital services have been created to service the enterprise of the future. 
	Going forward, we will continue to build strong specialization in the industries we serve which would include inorganic initiatives to acquire appropriate assets that will strengthen our position in these sectors.

New Delhi, Nov 14 () KPMG in India and NIIT Ltd on Thursday said they have entered into an exclusive partnership to launch 'KPMG NIIT Finance Academy' in India for building skills and talent for finance professionals.
 Designed as a centre for future skills in finance, the academy will offer futuristic programs in finance to fresh graduates and experienced finance professionals to address the changing talent requirements that evolving business models, regulatory changes and new-age technologies, a statement said.

 The Commerce Ministry on Thursday said Tobacco Board has been awarded the Golden Leaf Award for its efforts to initiate various sustainability initiatives in flue-cured virginia (FCV) tobacco cultivation in the country.
 The awards under this category are given to a company or institution that introduced a public service programme or educational campaign of creativity, effectiveness to date and best use of resources. 
 The board got this award for its best outstanding public service in sustainability to the industry for its initiatives on natural farming in tobacco cultivation for production of organic tobaccos, improving the soil health through green manuring.
 India is the world's fourth largest producer of FCV tobacco. About 88,000 FCV tobacco farmers and their families in the states of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka are dependent on this crop for their livelihood. SR RR

KPMG in India, NIIT launch 'KPMG NIIT Finance Academy'

New Delhi, Jan 29 () IT company NIIT Technologies on Wednesday reported a 66.29 per cent jump in its consolidated profit at Rs 123.3 crore for the third quarter ended December 31, 2019.
 The company had posted a profit of Rs 100.2 crore in the corresponding quarter a year ago.
 The revenue from operations of NIIT Technologies increased by 11.8 per cent to Rs 1,088.2 crore during the reported quarter, from Rs 973.3 crore in the corresponding quarter of 2018-19, the company said in a regulatory filing.
 America, which contributes the biggest chunk of the company's revenue, grew by around 10 per cent, while European business grew by about 23 per cent.
 The company recorded the highest growth in profit before tax in the American region followed by Europe.
 However, the operational profit of the company declined in India and Asia Pacific region.
 The company declared a dividend of Rs 10 per equity share. PRS DRR

NIIT Tech Q3 profit jumps 23 pc to Rs 123 cr

New Delhi, Dec 24 () The board of NIIT Technologies has approved a buyback programme worth Rs 337.46 crore.
 The firm's board of directors has approved that "subject to approval of the shareholders by means of a special resolution through postal ballot and regulatory approval(s) as may be required, buyback of up to 19,56,290 fully paid equity shares of a face value of Rs 10 each at a price of up to Rs 1,725 per share", NIIT Technologies said in a regulatory filing on late Monday evening.
 This will add up to a value of a little over Rs 337.46 crore and represent 20.23 per cent of the paid-up equity share capital and free reserves of the company, it added.
 The buyback is proposed to be made from the company's shareholders under the tender offer route through the stock exchange mechanism, it said.
 The public announcement setting out the process, timelines and other requisite details will be provided in due course subject to receipt of requisite approvals and in accordance with the buyback regulations, the filing said.
 The board of directors has constituted a buyback committee comprising Hari Gopalakrishnan (non-executive director), Kirtiram Hariharan (non-executive director), Sudhir Singh (CEO), Ajay Kalra (CFO) and Lalit Kumar Sharma (company secretary and legal counsel).
 Promoters held 70.12 per cent shares of the company, while Indian institutions such as banks, corporates and others held 15.71 per cent stake as on December 20, 2019. Foreign holding was at 14.17 per cent. SR HRS

NIIT is looking to start the edX-blended courses this year itself where students will be charged Rs. 10,000 and upwards for a 3-month course. And of course, the learners will have to pay anything between $50 to $100 to take the test with the university in order to complete the course. 
 
However, online certification players like Simplilearn, Udacity see a much higher completion rate than the industry average. With the help of in-house innovative tech methodology, Simplilearn has a 72% course completion rate for their self developed online courses.
