Amazon Prime Video on Tuesday announced its debut into live sports in India by acquiring the India territory rights for the New Zealand Cricket through 2025-2026. With this announcement, Amazon Prime Video becomes the first Indian streaming service to secure exclusive live cricket rights from a major cricketing board. The multi-year deal between Amazon and <keyword id="10250128" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="the-new-zealand-cricket-board">the New Zealand Cricket Board</keyword> will give Prime Video the right to stream all international cricket matches to be played in New Zealand for both men's and women's cricket, across ODI, T20 and Tests formats starting late 2021. The deal also includes Team India's tour of New Zealand in early 2022, and a second tour, the dates for which will be announced later. The rights for 2020-2021 season starting later this month is intended to be syndicated by Amazon. Gaurav Gandhi, Director &amp; Country General Manager, Amazon Prime Video said the team is looking forward to bringing India's favourite game to the streamer. "Over the last few years Amazon Prime Video has become the go-to destination for world class entertainment in India - be it our Amazon Original Series or the biggest blockbuster movies across languages," Gandhi said in a statement. "... We are thrilled to work with New Zealand Cricket on this endeavor as they have a strong, passionate and much-loved cricket team, and the cricketing rivalry between the two countries has been fantastic. We are happy to make this collaboration with New Zealand Cricket our first live sport offering in India, and are confident that our Prime members will be delighted with this initiative," he added. David White, Chief Executive New Zealand Cricket, said, "One of NZC's key goals is to extend our teams' global reach and to build closer relationships around the world and, in terms of that particular objective, we don't think we could be in better hands. India has always been important for viewership of NZC; no other country follows cricket like India, so it's exciting to be announcing this agreement with India's leading streamer." The Indian territory New Zealand Cricket rights package is the latest in Prime Video's growing line-up of live sports around the world including Thursday Night Football, the Premier League, ATP Tour Events, WTA, the US Open (tennis), UEFA Champions League, Autumn Nations Cup (rugby), and the Seattle Sounders FC. Fans can also subscribe to streaming services such as Eurosport, MLB.TV, <keyword id="10250127" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="NBA-League-Pass">NBA League Pass</keyword>, and PGA TOUR LIVE through Prime Video Channels. India is negotiating with 13 countries, including Australia, Japan and Singapore, to establish <keyword id="9779895" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="separate-bilateral-air-bubble-arrangements">separate bilateral air bubble arrangements</keyword> for international flight operations, Civil Aviation Minister <keyword id="151350" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hardeep-Singh-Puri">Hardeep Singh Puri</keyword> said on Tuesday. Under a bilateral air bubble pact, airlines of both the countries can operate international flights with certain restrictions. Puri said on Twitter air bubbles have also been proposed with our neighbours Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Nepal and Bhutan. Since July, India has established such bubbles with the following countries - the US, the UK, France, Germany, the UAE, Qatar and the Maldives. Puri said, "We are now taking these efforts forward &amp; are negotiating with 13 more countries to establish such arrangements." "These countries include Australia, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, Nigeria, Bahrain, Israel, Kenya, Philippines, Russia, Singapore, <keyword id="9779896" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="south-korea-thailand">South Korea &amp; Thailand</keyword>," he added. Scheduled international passenger flights continue to remain suspended in India since March 23 due to the <keyword id="8829783" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="coronavirus-pandemic">coronavirus pandemic</keyword>. Going forward, Puri said, India will consider such bilateral arrangements with countries other than the ones mentioned above. "It is always our endeavour to reach out to every stranded citizen. No Indian will be left behind," he said. After a gap of two months due to the coronavirus-triggered lockdown, India resumed domestic passenger flights on May 25. However, average occupancy rate in Indian domestic flights has been around just 50-60 per cent since May 25. Currently, airlines in India are permitted to operate 45 per cent of their pre-COVID domestic flights. The aviation sector has been significantly impacted due to the travel restrictions imposed in India and other countries in view of the <keyword id="1754604" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="coronavirus">coronavirus</keyword> pandemic. Surprisingly, this year’s World Cup has divided families, as members chose their own platforms to watch what they want. But, the TV viewership remained unaffected this June, in spite of the fact that many people took to streaming service <keyword id="2739840" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hotstar">Hotstar</keyword> to view it online, as per a JM Financials report. That means, in a family a person continued to watch a Hindi daily soap while another watched the World Cup simultaneously, on a different platform. In the month of June, <keyword id="6462633" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Zee-TV">Zee TV</keyword> regained the numero uno position in the paid Hindi GECs. Zee TV’s market share increased 3% on a monthly basis to 28.5%. It surpassed Star Plus with a 28.0% relative viewership. Separately, the combined viewership share of mainline GECs increased by 2% led by Zee TV. Sun TV also witnessed an increase in its viewership for the second month in a row though by an almost flat 0.5% growth, the report said. Yet, streaming services made a killing this World Cup, especially Star’s own streaming service. Hotstar has informed that on the day of India Versus Pakistan world cup match, the OTT platform recorded a daily active user base of 100mn and peak concurrent live viewers of 15.6mn, the highest for an international cricket fixture across formats, the report said. During the semifinals between India and New Zealand, Hotstar saw its viewers increase by millions by the minute. As the match became nail biting, in 43 minutes, Hotstar’s live viewership spiked from 14.8 million to 25.3 million. However, its viewership also crashed after M S Dhoni was bowled out, along with India’s hope of a win.
