The <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=RBI&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Reserve Bank of India </a>(RBI) announced it will soon issue <keyword id="531803" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="New-Rs-10-notes">new Rs 10 notes</keyword> that will have enhanced security features. 
 
In a circular, the RBI said the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=banknotes&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">banknotes </a>in the Mahatma Gandhi series-2005 are to carry inset letter 'L' on both number panels, bearing the signature of Governor Urjit Patel. 
 
The year of printing, 2017, will be on the reverse of the note. Among other features, numerals on both the panels will be in ascending size from left to right. 
 "All the <keyword id="6724555" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="banknotes">banknotes</keyword> in the denomination of Rs 10 issued by the Bank in the past will continue to be legal tender," the central bank said in a notification.

RBI to issue new Rs 10 notes soon; to have more security features

Counterfeiting was one of the main objectives of the Indian government when it announced <keyword id="3315394" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="demonetisation">demonetisation</keyword> and now it seems it may get hampered due to a defect in printing of Rs 500 notes. 
 Two variants of new Rs 500 notes have surfaced in the market and the <keyword id="30067" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="RBI">RBI</keyword> has accepted the defect, saying it happened due to printing rush. 
 
The defect in Rs 500 note is likely to create confusion and panic among people. Many photos of defect Rs 500 notes appeared on social media. 
 
People said there was a visible shadow of Gandhi's face, alignment of the national emblem on the note was not correct and there were issues in the serial numbers also. 
 
Many complained about the size of the borders, different colours, etc. 
 
RBI spokesperson Alpana Killawala, said, "It is likely that notes with printing defect has got released due to the current rush. However, people can freely accept such a note in transaction or return it to RBI." 
 
Former Home Secretary GK Pillai told TOI, "Prevention of counterfeiting is almost impossible, with official mechanisms in Pakistan printing notes with access to as much sophistication as we do. So, it is only a matter of delay and temporary suspension of such notes in the country that one could have hoped for. I cannot yet comment on the Rs 500 notes as I am yet to see them, the Rs 2,000 notes are of good sophistication. That said, if the RBI says there is only one new 500-note it is printing, there should exist only one." 
 
Experts pointed out that multiple variants of the official notes will aid people attempting to infuse fake notes. "As it is people find it difficult to understand all features of an official note and fail to check for everything before they accept one. Now, if there are too many versions of the official note, slipping in another would be easier than otherwise," a service IPS officer who has dealt with crime for many years told TOI.

Move over the ATM queue to withdraw new notes. The <keyword id="6354335" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="reserve-bank-of-india">Reserve Bank of India</keyword> (<keyword id="30067" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="RBI">RBI</keyword>) has announced that it will shortly issue <keyword id="280997" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rs-20">Rs 20</keyword> and Rs 50 denomination banknotes respectively. Both the notes will be in the <keyword id="2228928" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mahatma-Gandhi-series-2005">Mahatma Gandhi Series-2005</keyword>, with inset letter 'L' in both the number panels, bearing signature of Urjit Patel. 
 
According to the press release, these notes will also have 2016 marked. However giving a sigh of relief, RBI has assured the old notes will continue to be in circulation unlike Rs 500 and Rs 1000. The design and security features of the notes will remain as it is. 
 Prime Minister <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword> had scrapped old Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes last month. While these have been replaced by new notes of Rs 500 and Rs 2000, the trouble for common people to collect physical notes at bank is still there.

Income Tax officials raided eight premises in Chennai and one place in Vellore and seized Rs 105 crore in old and new currencies and gold bars worth Rs 35 crore. This is considered to be the biggest seizure since PM Narendra Modi announced <keyword id="3315394" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="demonetisation">demonetisation</keyword>. 
 
The officials raided premises belonging to industrialist Shekhar Reddy, his associate Srinivasa Reddy and their agents, including a person called Prem Kumar. They also raided jewellery shops. 
 
Out of Rs 105 crore, Rs 95 crore were in old notes and Rs 10 crore mostly in the newly introduced Rs 2,000 denomination currency. 
 
The I-T department officials got a tip about Prem Kumar exchanging demonetised currencies for gold bars, and following his trail they stumbled upon the Reddy associates. 
 
"While the Reddys claimed they had bought gold bars from jewellery shops, we are investigating how they managed to get Rs 10 crore in 2,000 denomination notes when there is a restriction on cash withdrawal from bank accounts and people are standing in queues for hours to withdraw money from banks and ATMs," said an I-T official.

The Prime Minister announced that Rs. 500 and Rs. 1,000 denomination notes are being withdrawn from midnight. He said that such notes will be useless. 
 
Further, people who possess Rs.500 or Rs. 1000 currency notes after December 30 can exchange it at Reserve Bank of India by providing a declaration. This is till March 31, 2017.

The release by RBI said “The design of these notes to be issued now is similar in all respects to the Rs 10 Banknotes in <keyword id="6355532" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Mahatma-Gandhi">Mahatma Gandhi</keyword> Series - 2005 issued earlier.”

New Rs 10 Bank Notes To Carry Indian RBI Governor, Raghuram Rajan’s Signature

The Income Tax department has become tech-savvy and is using analytical tools to assess personal bank deposits to crackdown on <keyword id="6356023" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Black-Money">black money</keyword>. The tax officials are using <keyword id="774829" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Big-Data">big data</keyword> analytical tools for the first time to keep an eagle’s eye on personal accounts. 
 
Earlier, such tools were used only for corporate tax. 
 
"It's practically impossible for tax officials to go through all the data obtained from banks and compare it with other tax-related data. Analytics is being used to look at discrepancies. This would then be scrutinised by experienced tax officials,” a person close to the development told ET. 
 
Through this big data analytical tool, the tax officials can scan through tax returns filed by individuals, companies, etc. In case of irregularities, these analytical tools raise red flags. Tax officers could then issue notices to individuals based on this after December 31. 
 
Talking to ET, another person close to the development, said, "What the analytics tool can throw up is not just the cash deposited in banks by an individual, but details of the income tax paid over the years, corporate tax paid by his company, number of employees he has and whether they too have deposited money recently. Every detail of the individual's tax history can be known.” 
 
Under the bill to amend Section 115BBE of the Income Tax Act, deals with unexplained deposits in banks will be taxed. According to the amendment, tax officers can now tax such deposits at 60% (plus cess) as against 30% earlier. The new tax law is applicable from April 1, this year.

Two weeks have passed since the announcement of <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=demonetisation&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">demonetisation</a> but there are still long queues outside banks and ATMs. However, bankers expect the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=cash+crunch&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">struggle to get cash </a>will end soon as the supply of <keyword id="3842168" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="New-Rs-500-Notes">new Rs 500 notes</keyword> is to go up. 
 
"Next week should be much better. <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=ATMs&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">ATMs</a> are replenished regularly and are not running out of cash which should give comfort to customers. The supply of notes (from the central bank) is in plenty but the point is that people should start spending," <keyword id="6379603" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Arundhati-Bhattacharya">Arundhati Bhattacharya</keyword>, chairman of <keyword id="6354731" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="State-Bank-Of-India">State Bank of India</keyword>, told ET. 
 
"Next week, we should also see good supply of Rs 500 notes which will ease the situation,” she said. 
 
Apart from easing cash crunch situation, banks are also expected to inform public about online channels to do bank transactions. 
As per few bankers, ATM cash withdrawal limit could be raised from Rs 2,500 as ATMs are being recalibrated to dispense the new Rs 500 and Rs 2,000 notes. 
 
Also, the limit to exchange old banknotes with new one will be reviewed on November 24. 
 
Presently, an individual can withdraw Rs 24,000 per week, Rs 50,000 from current account for payments of salaries and other dues and Rs 2.5 lakh to spend on weddings. 
 
"The government may review the Rs 24,000 cap as currency supply will improve next week. But at the same time, the government may scrap the facility to exchange notes while directing banks to encourage people wanting to exchange notes to open banks accounts,” a bank chief told ET.
