The Karnataka State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has directed the hospital and two <keyword id="20000183" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="doctors" source="keywords">doctors</keyword> to pay Padmavathi, a resident of Jayanagar, Rs 50,000 as litigation expenses. It has also directed <keyword id="22497673" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="New-India-Assurance-Co-Ltd" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="New India Assurance Co Ltd" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="New India Assurance Co Ltd">New India Assurance Co Ltd</keyword>, which had issued a policy covering the hospital expenses, to pay her Rs five lakh for "the professional and <keyword id="21130249" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="medical-negligence" source="keywords">medical negligence</keyword> caused." The then 32-year-old woman underwent the surgery on September 29, 2004 at the <keyword id="22497672" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Deepak-Hospital" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Deepak Hospital" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Deepak Hospital">Deepak Hospital</keyword>, with the two doctors allegedly performing the hernia operation. On completion of the surgery, her appendix was also removed, according to the Commission's order last month. Immediately, on the next day, she complained of severe pain for which she was prescribed some pain killers and assured that it is post surgery discomfort and that it will get cured. She suffered acute stomach and back pain for several years and was also admitted in the same hospital twice later, the order noted. Padmavathi later approached another private hospital here in 2010 and during a scan, it was noticed that some foreign body existed in the abdominal and back portion of her body and it was suggested to her to get it (surgical needle) removed. She then underwent surgery and the 3.2 cm surgical needle was removed following which she approached the consumer forum with a complaint the following year. The forum noted that the complainant was aged about 32 years, when she underwent all these surgeries and removal of the surgical needle. "Definitely she suffered severe pain and inconvenience till removal of the surgical needle," the order stated. Hence, she is entitled to get "global compensation" of Rs five lakh and the insurance company (New India Assurance Company Limited) is directed to pay the amount while the two doctors are liable to pay litigation expenses of Rs 50,000 to the complainant, it further added.

PM Modi invites US CEOs to take a 'byte' out of India's growing technology sector

New Delhi: The merger of media assets of Reliance Industries and the India business of global media house the Walt Disney is expected to be complete by the end of the third quarter of this fiscal, according to a regulatory filing by billionaire Mukesh Ambani-led group. The fair trade regulator CCI has already approved the merger of Viacom 18 and <keyword id="19976122" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Star-India" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Star India" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Star India">Star India</keyword> and NCLT (National Company Law Tribunal) has sanctioned the scheme regarding it. "The companies are in the process of obtaining other requisite approvals for the completion of the transaction and transaction closer is expected in 3Q FY 25," informed Reliance Industries on Monday in its quarter earning statement. The merger of Reliance group-controlled media assets - TV18 Broadcast and E18 - with Network18 Media &amp; Investments has already been sanctioned by the NCLT and was made effective on October 3, it said. Earlier on September 27, the government approved the transfer of licenses relating to Non News &amp; Current Affairs TV channels held by media entities of Reliance Industries to Star India. "The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, vide its order dated September 27, has granted its approval for transfer of Licenses relating to Non News &amp; Current Affairs TV channels held by <keyword id="19976121" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Viacom18" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Viacom18" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Viacom18">Viacom18</keyword> Media Private Limited in favour of Star India," it had said. Viacom18 is the holding company that owns the media and entertainment business of billionaire Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries and Bodhi Tree Systems. Both sides are in the final stages of the merger, making some adjustments in the business as per the Competition Commission of India (CCI) directions. On August 30, the NCLT had approved the scheme of merger of Viacom18 Media and Digital 18 Media, holding media and entertainment assets of Reliance Industries with Star India. The scheme had proposed the transfer and vesting of Media Operations Undertaking from Viacom 18 and Jio Cinema into Digital18, which is a subsidiary of Viacom 18. This would be followed by "demerger, transfer and vesting of V18 Undertaking from Digital 18 into Star India". The merger of the media assets of Reliance Industries and The Walt Disney Co.'s India business will create the country's largest media empire worth over Rs 70,000 crore. Earlier, the CCI had said it has cleared the "proposed combination involving Reliance Industries Ltd, Viacom18 Media Pvt Ltd, Digital18 Media Ltd, Star India Pvt Ltd and Star Television Productions Ltd, subject to the compliance of voluntary modifications". Viacom18 is part of the RIL group, and Star India is wholly owned by The <keyword id="19986269" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Walt-Disney-Company" source="keywords">Walt Disney Company</keyword>. Star Television Productions, a company incorporated in the British Virgin Islands, is owned indirectly by Walt Disney. The CCI, however, did not disclose voluntary modifications in the original deal made by the two parties. As per the deal, Mukesh Ambani-led RIL and its affiliates will hold 63.16 per cent of the combined entity that will house two streaming services and 120 television channels. Walt Disney will hold the remaining 36.84 per cent stake in the combined entity, which will also be India's largest media house. Reliance Industries has also agreed to invest close to Rs 11,500 crore into the joint venture to give it the muscle to fight rivals like Japan's Sony and Netflix. Nita Ambani, wife of billionaire and RIL Chairman <keyword id="19916798" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mukesh-Ambani" source="keywords">Mukesh Ambani</keyword>, will head the joint venture, while Uday Shankar will be the vice-chairperson.

All three also own and operate another New York City cocktail bar, Monkey Thief.This conversation has been lightly edited for length and clarity.Avi: Rishi and I go way back. We grew up together in <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/visit-india-2016-3">New Delhi, India</a>. Our parents were friends.Fast forward to 2016, Rishi was living with my brother in New York City, and we reconnected.Rishi: After I graduated college, I worked in event management. Two years later, I pivoted and started working for a tech startup where I was leading <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-to-double-dip-work-two-jobs-2023-9">quality assurance.</a>I liked the creative aspect of getting to work with different companies. But my <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tech-worker-left-job-opened-natural-wine-bar-brooklyn-2024-11">work was very monotonous</a>. It got boring. And I didn't like being behind a desk for 10 to 13 hours a day.Avi: I went to college at Emory in Atlanta. My peers were entering one of three fields: finance, marketing, or consulting. The thing that intrigued me most was consulting because of its <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-to-get-hired-top-consulting-firms-bcg-mckinsey-pwc-2024-7">problem-solving nature. </a>I took a job at a consulting firm that would allow me to move to New York City. Reality hit pretty quickly with regard to what you actually do as a business analyst at a consulting firm. It was 80 hours a week sitting on Excel and PowerPoint, building models, and putting together decks. I didn't feel like I got to see any of my work being implemented. I had a hunger to <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/six-figure-consulting-job-not-fulfilling-quit-start-business-2024-11">make more of an impact.</a>Rishi: When I reconnected with Avi, we were both in a position where we didn't know what we wanted to do with our lives. We didn't like where we were at. We didn't want to go through life like that, so we started talking about what would happen if we followed our dreams.<h2 id="891d925d-e92d-4743-9282-ab8459339509">We wanted to go into food and beverage</h2>Avi: Growing up in India, food was a big part of our social and familial interactions. That's where the love started.We knew how <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/restaurants-america-eating-out-crisis-your-fault-labor-shortage-tipping-2024-2">difficult the industry</a> was, but we were still fairly young, so we just said let's give it a shot. In the worst-case scenario, we can always come back to our desk jobs.Rishi: I started working as a dishwasher, busser, server, and then manager at an Indian restaurant to gain experience while we came up with our concept.Avi: It was definitely a risky move. Coming from Asian households, we were guided toward a more <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/modern-career-path-2018-7">traditional career path</a>. I had to present my dad with a full business plan and pitch the bar to him. But we had done our market research and knew we had a good idea.We wanted Sama Street to be based on our upbringing and experiences. Maybe you need to be dressed a certain way, or you're afraid to be loud with your friends. Sama is from the Sanskrit word meaning true equality to all beings.We were looking for a head bartender and posted an ad on Craiglist. That's how we met David. He helped us realize our vision.David: I was working as a general manager at the time, but wanted to get back behind the bar. I saw the ad and skipped over it a few times because they seemed pretty green. But my wife convinced me to call them. We talked for an hour and a half and just clicked right away. We had all the same sort of ideas about hospitality.<h2 id="88091082-fd0e-4bc0-9939-3fbe42de37fc">We opened Sama Street in 2019</h2>David: We learned so much during that process. We <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/changes-restaurants-pandemic-qr-codes-self-service-kiosks-2024-10">survived the pandemic.</a>Avi: It was rough. We celebrated our one-year anniversary over FaceTime. But Sama Street is in Greenpoint, a very close-knit neighborhood, so our regulars showed up for us. The other bars and restaurants did, too. There was a lot of <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/what-its-like-to-eat-restaurant-outdoor-dining-nyc-pandemic-2020-6">local industry support.</a>We basically did everything that we were <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/new-york-restaurants-are-struggling-2020-12">legally able to do</a> to get as many people drinks and food during the lockdown.We're definitely still feeling the ripples of COVID, but it was a great learning experience and taught us that anything can change overnight, and you have to be able to pivot.<div type="image" title="four craft cocktails" height="5464" width="8192" msid="115385469" hostid="261" sizebytes="2130388"></div>I still get worried about financial security some days. As an entrepreneur, you can't pay yourselves unless the business is doing well.<h2 id="e8d53f13-0f83-4bae-9d07-d009ad306ed7">We knew we wanted to expand</h2>David: We searched and searched and searched and came across a spot in Hell's Kitchen and fell in love immediately.Avi: We opened Monkey Thief in October.David: It was very fast. We didn't have to do a lot with the space, mostly cosmetic changes and getting staff trained. The fast opening was good for our pocketbooks but also very high stress. We've all been doing 18-hour days for the last two months.Rishi: We couldn't have asked for a better opening. We've had so much support from the neighborhood, and our regulars from Sama Street have come in to see the new concept.David: It's been a learning curve because it's <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/restaurant-owners-how-to-run-a-successful-profitable-small-business-2023-10">bigger than Sama Street. </a>But it's a good problem to have. We've got people waiting outside to come in.Rishi: Hopefully, we will open a couple more spaces in the future.Avi: One of the things I love about this industry is that every day is different, though not necessarily in a good way. You might walk in and see the AC has stopped working or the gas is turned off. It's never boring.David: This is not an industry for everyone. The reason we've been successful is that we love coming to work every day. We love the chaos. We love the community.

The Hyderabad-based company said it is currently in the final stage of concluding its Series A1 funding round, amounting to USD 25 million with the participation of a foreign institutional investor. Concurrently, ongoing discussions are taking place with potential investors from Dubai, Hong Kong, and Singapore for Series A2 funding, targeting an infusion of USD 15 million, it added. Pure EV raises $8 million in latest funding round

Government owned two banks and a <keyword id="157994" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="General-Insurance-Company">general insurance company</keyword> has decided to bear the Covid-19 vaccination cost incurred by <keyword id="6357081" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="employees">employees</keyword> and their dependents who are 45 years of age with co-morbidities. While the two banks - <keyword id="6354731" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="state-bank-of-india">State Bank of India</keyword> (<keyword id="13222" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="SBI">SBI</keyword>) and Canara Bank - will reimburse the cost of vaccination - ₹250 per dose per head - incurred by their employees who are above 45 with co-morbidities and their dependents. On the other hand, city-based United India General Insurance Company Ltd. will reimburse the vaccination cost incurred by its employees who are above 45 years of age and suffering from co-morbidities. In its circular, United India has also pointed out that at government hospitals, the vaccination is done free of cost and urged the employees to get their jab done there. The insurer also said only in the case where eligible employees were not able to go to a government hospital they can get the vaccination done at private hospitals. However, SBI and Canara Bank did not urge its employees to look at the government hospitals for vaccination. Appreciating the decision of the two banks C.H. Venkatachalam, General Secretary, All India Bank Employees' Association (AIBEA) told IANS: "What is important is that the bankers should be vaccinated on priority basis and they should also be considered as corona warriors." "Despite being exposed to the coronavirus infection, the bankers attended to duty during the lockdown period and were handling currency notes, coins and others offered by their clients," Venkatachalam said. According to him, many bank employees had contracted Covid-19 and had succumbed to it. Venkatachalam also said the attendance in the bank branches is back to normal levels and the two banks' decision to reimburse the cost is mainly to show their concern towards their employees who are above 45 and exposed to higher risk of getting affected by coronavirus. Venkatachalam added that the <keyword id="47209" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Finance-Ministry">Finance Ministry</keyword> has taken up with the <keyword id="46535" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Health-ministry">Health Ministry</keyword> for vaccinating the bankers on priority basis. SBI, Canara Bank and United India to reimburse COVID-19 vaccine cost

Government-owned and listed insurer, the <keyword id="47873" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="new-india" source="Orion">New India</keyword> Assurance Company Ltd closed FY22 with a net profit of Rs 164.27 crore, down from Rs 1,604.69 crore logged during FY21. The company's solvency margin also dropped to 1.66 times at the end of FY22 from 2.13 times at the end of FY21. During the year under review, The New <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword> had logged a gross premium of Rs 36,834.61 crore as against Rs 33,046.41 crore earned in FY21. While all other lines of business showed operating profit - including the motor - the company's profit was drawn down by the huge operating loss in the health insurance segment. Last fiscal, the operating loss under the health insurance segment was Rs 4,843.93 crore, against Rs 1,459.97 crore posted during FY21. Incidentally last year, the company's crop insurance business made an operating profit of Rs 214.82 crore, up from a loss of Rs 296.08 crore in FY21. New Delhi [India], June 18 (ANI): India and the US have agreed to closer engagement and cooperation on supply chain, <keyword id="20009962" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="semiconductors" source="keywords">semiconductors</keyword> and <keyword id="19978839" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="critical-minerals" source="keywords">critical minerals</keyword> during the meeting of the <keyword id="20233690" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="India-US" source="keywords">India-US</keyword> initiative on Critical and Emerging Technology (iCET), led by Indian National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and his US counterpart Jake Sullivan in New Delhi. India and the US, on Monday, launched a new strategic semiconductors partnership to co-develop semiconductor design and manufacturing processes for precision-guided ammunition. "Launching a new strategic semiconductor partnership between General Atomics and 3rdiTech to co-develop semiconductor design and manufacturing for precision-guided ammunition and other national security-focused electronics platforms," read the fact sheet issued by the US and India. Semiconductors (essential for defence, automobiles and telecommunications sectors) have grown into a key geopolitical battleground, with the US, Japan and China investing heavily in developing domestic capabilities. "Celebrating the conclusion of a joint Semiconductor Readiness Assessment through a partnership between the US Semiconductor Industry Association and the India Electronics Semiconductor Association, which identifies near-term industry opportunities and facilitates longer-term strategic development of complementary semiconductor ecosystems," the factsheet added. This engagement with Indian and US investors in the semiconductor industry in India aims to continue building India's robust semiconductor and information communication technology ecosystem. Notably, India in March approved three semiconductor plant proposals, aiming to bolster India's semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem. The projects entail an estimated investment of Rs 1.26 lakh crore and are expected to significantly contribute to India's electronics manufacturing sector. Tata Electronics and Taiwan's Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corp. (PSMC) will establish India's first semiconductor fabrication plant (fab) in Dholera, Gujarat. Tata Semiconductor Assembly and Test Pvt Ltd (TSAT) will set up a semiconductor unit in Morigaon, Assam. CG Power, in partnership with Renesas Electronics Corp., Japan, and Stars Microelectronics, Thailand, will establish a semiconductor unit in Sanand, Gujarat. US and India also aimed to work together to ensure a reliable supply of critical minerals, which are essential for clean energy technologies and other important industries. "Promoting India's vital role in the Mineral Security Partnership, including through co-investing in a lithium resource project in South America and a rare earths deposit in Africa, to responsibly and sustainably diversify critical mineral supply chains," read the fact sheet. The two countries agreed to establish an India-US Advanced Materials R&amp;D Forum on the margins of the India-U.S. Joint Committee Meeting on Science and Technology to expand collaboration between American and Indian universities, national laboratories, and private sector researchers. "Deepening industrial and commercial coordination for critical mineral supply chains under the India-US Commercial Dialogue between the US Department of Commerce and the Indian Ministry of Commerce and Industry, with private sector input from the India-US CEO Forum," the fact sheet stated. They also committed to quickly conclude a bilateral Critical Minerals Memorandum of Understanding between the US Department of Commerce and the Indian Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the Ministry of Mines, and driving additional areas of cooperation in critical mineral supply chains such as for graphite, gallium, and germanium. "Exploring opportunities for collaboration in the critical minerals sector like bilateral collaboration in technologies for Neodymium-iron-boron metal, alloy and magnet making, collaboration with Department of Energy entities; Advancing Indian collaboration with U.S. organizations and companies for carrying out research studies for beneficiation of critical minerals, including lithium, titanium, gallium, and vanadium," added the fact sheet. The two countries agreed to build a collaborative program between the Geological Survey of India and the US Geological Survey on exploration, characterization and evaluation of rare earth elements and critical mineral deposits. The company, which posted a whopping 125 percent year-on-year surge in its vehicle sales at 53,721 units in 2022, also sounded hopeful of growing into double-digit this year as well. Similarly, <keyword id="166267" type="General" weightage="60" keywordseo="volkswagen-group" source="Orion">Volkswagen Group</keyword> sales grew 85.48 per cent year-on-year at 1,01,270 units in the previous calendar year. Volkswagen is already exporting vehicles from India to Mexico and South Africa while Skoda Auto is exporting to the Middle East and North Africa. "From next year we will start exporting vehicle kits for assembly in Vietnam," Solc stated. Export is already an important part and will continue to be an important part of the strategy for Skoda and Volkswagen, he stated. Noting that Skoda Auto India for the first time delivered more than 50,000 cars in the domestic market last year, he said "we would like to grow with the market or even faster and our ambition is to grow into double digits." He said that 2022 was specific for the company on account of the Slavia launch and added that "So, there was this kind of a one-time effect of any new model introduction." "Now, we have both models (all-new Slavia sedan and <keyword id="10576650" type="General" weightage="60" keywordseo="kushaq-suv" source="Orion">Kushaq SUV</keyword>) in the market and can now enjoy having both models for the full year in the market," he said. Solc said that the 7-seater updated SUV Kodiaq will also play a role in terms of the company's growth strategy, particularly when there is a much greater supply now. To a question on Audi, which at a point of time was the undisputed leader in the domestic premium luxury car market, Christian Cahn Von Seelen, Member of the Board for sales, marketing and digital at SAVWPIL said that its growth has been "impressive" in terms of volume in 2022 compared to the year earlier and that was still hampered significantly by the chip supply situations even in Europe. "So the growth of Audi is impressive, and we are definitely planning to continue...So as much (as) I think, I can say we will see loads of new product introductions here on the other side." On the company's EV foray in the Indian market, Solc said it depends on the development of the segment in the country. Late last month, the European car maker Skoda announced its EV roadmap, which includes six electric cars in a phased manner by 2026. "We as a manufacturer and Skoda, we will be ready. And if we see good traction, we are talking about the prognosis that the car market or the EV can go within 5-10 years, up to 20, maybe 30 per cent. We don't know necessarily," he said. "So this could be part, we would like to be also within that range, but depends again, on the response. If we see more manufacturers going, there is an infrastructure built here and there's an acceptance from the customers to buy electric cars, and we will be ready," he said. He said that the company is discussing which models it should bring in the future also to India as an EV. "And if we see the potential in the market, we will bring them as well. So I cannot say necessarily what the percentage will be. But if the market is going towards more than 20 per cent of the electric vehicles of the total market, we would like to penetrate within the EV segment," Solc added. India to become export hub for Skoda Auto from next year, says co-official

<ul><li>While QSRs have been growing aggressively in the last two years, few have been concentrating on dine-in experiences.</li><li>Only McDonald’s run by <keyword id="15483921" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Westlife-Foodworld" source="Orion">Westlife Foodworld</keyword> in India has gained from the trend as it focussed on omnichannel strategy.</li><li>The pizza category – where the product is designed for delivery – suffered the most as dine-ins gained popularity.</li></ul>Indians are wanting to step out for their meals, and that’s hurting quick-service restaurants (QSRs) as well as delivery apps equally. So much so that Swiggy has recently announced that it’s integrating its dine-out offerings onto its platform across 24 cities, allowing users to access discounts as they book via the app. While QSRs have been growing aggressively in the last two years – with a large number of new store openings – few of them have been concentrating on dine-in experiences. And only one chain – McDonald’s run by Westlife Foodworld in India – has gained from the trend as it focussed on the post-pandemic retail trend of an omnichannel strategy. “McDonald’s (Westlife) reported a 20% y-o-y same-store sales growth (SSSG), largely driven by higher guest count and average order value, due to its meals and omnichannel strategy,” said a report by BNP Paribas on the company’s third quarter results. A Credit Suisse report had said last month that McDonald’s offers more meals – across breakfast, coffee and chicken apart from burgers and sides. A larger menu is best suited to bring in footfalls through the day. “Westlife/McDonald’s reiterated their preference for the larger-size, longer-lease store model, which they have successfully figured out; the rest of the listed universe has pivoted to a smaller -store format,” said Credit Suisse. Pizzas: Undelivered growth The pizza category – where the product is designed for delivery – suffered the most. The franchises that run Pizza Hut – Sapphire and <keyword id="142256" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Devyani-International" source="Orion">Devyani International</keyword> – saw a sequential fall in SSSG by 4% and 6%, respectively. Jubilant that runs Domino’s showed almost flat SSSG growth sequentially. “Softer demand continued in the pizza category owing to larger delivery salience, relatively higher penetration and elevated competitive intensity. Pizza Hut posted a q-o-q (quarter-on-quarter) decline in sales, while Domino’s reported flat like-for-like growth of 0.3% y-o-y,” said BNP Paribas. Like-for-like or LFL growth is a metric that indicates revenues of stores with similar characteristics, omitting outliers. KFC witnessed a decline in its ADS (average daily sales per store) both sequentially and year-on-year (y-o-y) due to weak consumer spending and incremental store additions in non-metro cities that typically have lower ADS. While 35% of sales for Domino’s comes from on-premises, for McDonald’s that percentage stands at 52%, for Pizza Hut it’s 41% and for KFC it’s 54%. Moreover, almost all QSRs have been expanding their store numbers but reducing store sizes to make them delivery friendly. So much so, even Pizza Hut, which had started off as a dine-in brand, had changed its strategy to focus on delivery in the last few years to catch up with its closest competitor Domino’s. <div type="image" title="QSR report" msid="98201473" hostid="261" sizebytes="29596"></div> Then there is the slowdown… Apart from changing preferences, Indians also seem to be re-thinking their discretionary spends – which is also eating into <keyword id="6517640" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="QSR" source="Orion">QSR</keyword> business. “The slowdown in discretionary consumption, especially post Diwali, has dampened the strong demand sentiment that QSR players witnessed in the past few quarters. This is attributed to rising inflationary pressures, a cut in household expenses and consumers’ down-trading behaviour,” said a report by BNP Paribas. Moreover, the growth that a majority of consumer companies have foreseen might turn out to be a mirage. “The growth rate for food delivery has slowed down versus our projections (along with many peer companies globally). This meant that we needed to revisit our overall indirect costs to hit our profitability goals,” said Swiggy co-founder and CEO Sriharsha Majety on <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/business/startups/news/swiggy-co-founder-says-over-hiring-a-mistake-as-he-fires-380-employees/articleshow/97171514.cms">firing 380 employees </a>in January. According to a report by IIFL, as many as 820-920 such restaurants will be added every year as most franchises that run the aforementioned brands are looking to double their store count in the next four to five years. “We believe store expansion targets might need to be toned down if the growth remains weak. Owing to the demand and margin softness, street earnings estimates have come off in the last few weeks,” said BNP Paribas. Moreover, there are other challenges dogging them too – rising wheat and cheese prices have been biting into their margins. Muted sales also give them little room for price hikes, which could further pressure sales and margins.
