Todd Rigby, a director of sales at Rajant, says a mesh network allows organizations to have many access points that can "talk to one another."Griggs added, "Imagine all smartphones being able to talk directly to each other and the <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/guides/tech/what-is-a-hotspot">hot spot</a>."Griggs argued that mesh networks can offer more reliability, <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/5g-advanced-standalone-6g-qualcomm-huawei-mwc-2024-3">faster connectivity</a>, and better mobility and <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/rsa-conference-best-practices-securing-5g-iot-devices-2024-5">network security</a>.Rigby and Griggs discussed the ways mesh networks could benefit businesses and the challenges of adopting the technology.These interviews have been edited for length and clarity.Erica Sweeney: What are the main benefits of mesh networks?Todd Rigby: Reliability of data. When you need coverage for a larger area, up to hundreds of miles in any direction, they can provide much faster transfer speeds and significantly higher connectivity.There's scalability when you're struggling with connectivity. We can scale to all shapes, sizes, and types of businesses to provide that critical level of communication — from a building that's 10,000 square feet to a business that's covering hundreds of square miles.Mesh networks also offer significantly more safety and security, whether from a <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/rsa-ceo-rohit-ghai-navigating-5g-cybersecurity-2024-5">malicious attack or other breach</a>.Steven Griggs: Mesh networks have a lot of network redundancy built in that keeps them connected to one another. You just put it out there, and if they can see each other, they can talk. It's easy to manage. They're very flexible and can work with other technologies, like LTE and Starlink. We're also moving toward more autonomy and artificial-intelligence-driven decision-making, applications, and technologies; mesh networks are built for that.Sweeney: How do mesh networks enhance connectivity for businesses?Griggs: They're versatile. They very easily integrate into an existing network. There's a lot you can do with them. They can be as complicated or as simple as the network administrator wants to make them.Rigby: One of the challenges that businesses often have, especially when they're moving into environments beyond a traditional office — spaces with manufacturing or material processing and where goods are coming in and out of a warehouse — is they end up with a lot of physical obstruction.With WiFi, you may struggle with connectivity between the worker and the network. If workers continuously have connectivity problems, they're going to have a hard time producing what their employer expects.Mesh networks work in highly obstructed, highly mobile environments where machines and equipment move around, where you have racks, materials, and products stacked up and volumes are changing every day. That would wreak havoc on traditional WiFi. A mesh network is able to adapt automatically and provide seamless service to people working in those environments.Sweeney: What do businesses need to do to successfully adopt a mesh network?Griggs: A company has to have a good solid backbone. It must get its wired network working correctly before introducing a mesh network.Rigby: If you apply automation to an inefficient process, you're just speeding up the error rate. If you drop a mesh network into an environment with poor <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/guides/tech/what-is-ethernet">LAN architecture</a> and configuration, it will become apparent pretty quickly. When deploying a mesh network, companies need to optimize their <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-private-wireless-connectivity-changing-airport-experience-aviation-mwc-2024-10">wireless</a> and wired communications.

It works through Apple's "Find My" network, which uses a combination of Bluetooth signals and the vast network of Apple devices to help locate lost items. The AirTag is powered by a standard CR2032 coin cell battery, which lasts about a year before needing to be replaced — making it perfect if you’re planning on any similar long-term sting operations. At the <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/south-korea-robots-2018-winter-olympics-2017-12">2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea</a>, the telecommunications company KT Corp. trialed <a target="_blank" href="https://www.reuters.com/article/sports/the-first-5g-olympics-not-quite-say-bemused-spectators-idUSKCN1G80BM/">5G for a limited time with mixed results</a>. During the Tokyo Olympics, which took place in 2021, mobile-data technology was more widely adopted.The upcoming Olympics in Paris will prove an even more massive challenge for 5G's communication-network abilities due to the event's scale: An estimated 15 million visitors will access the city's 5G network exclusively since WiFi is a <a target="_blank" href="https://www.lightreading.com/5g/orange-spurns-slicing-and-opts-for-cisco-private-5g-at-olympics">less popular choice</a> than mobile networks in France.<h2 id="d455efe8-7f64-4cf6-bd40-5d947a094671">Preparing to meet Olympic Games attendees' internet demands</h2>"The challenge when we talk sports is a lot of people at the same time, at a single location, who all want to communicate," Bertrand Rojat, the chief marketing and innovation officer at Orange, the telecommunications provider for the 2024 Olympic Games, told Business Insider.Broadcasters will demand real-time, ultrafast broadcast channels; spectators will want livestreaming and data-roaming support. At recent sporting events, like the 2023 Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix and the 2024 UEFA European Football Championship, there was an over <a target="_blank" href="https://ibasis.com/olympic-peak-performance-a-winning-strategy-to-roaming-connectivity/">70% increase</a> in roaming traffic.According to Rojat, one of the first ways network providers can help ensure always-on connectivity is by getting a sense of how many people will be using the 5G network at once. Once they forecast how often a network is likely to be used, they can figure out the size of equipment needed and how much redundancy, or spare capacity, to include as headroom."Because there are competitions taking place in most of these venues already, we have a sense of what to do," Rojat said. He pointed to the Stade de France, Paris' main sports stadium, which was one of the host venues of the Rugby World Cup in 2023."We have competitions taking place in these venues on a regular basis, so we have been able to get some real measurements of the level of traffic and type of traffic," Rojat said. He added that Orange would use "centralized live monitoring" of how users fill that data capacity and adapt accordingly but wouldn't go into further detail.Rojat said collecting data on the types of internet traffic users most commonly produce was important because it could make the difference between a 5G network remaining online and going offline.Text messaging through apps like WhatsApp uses less data than livestreaming video. And uploading video highlights taken at your seat in one venue will use different elements of the network than downloading an official broadcaster's livestream because the event is less visible from your seat at another venue.However, having that data doesn't ensure a maximum limit for what may be required capacity-wise. Forecasts of capacity can always be wrong, so connectivity planners include additional headroom above and beyond what they believe may be necessary.<h2 id="8a14c422-390d-43f1-b1c1-1e51548135fa">Harnessing private 5G infrastructure</h2>Orange is installing <a target="_blank" href="https://www.lightreading.com/5g/orange-spurns-slicing-and-opts-for-cisco-private-5g-at-olympics">cellphone antennas on boats</a> and extension units in sporting venues to bolster its 5G network.The French telecommunication company also built a <a target="_blank" href="https://www.lightreading.com/5g/orange-spurns-slicing-and-opts-for-cisco-private-5g-at-olympics">private 5G network</a> with Cisco to livestream the boating races along the Seine with roughly 200 smartphones rather than bulky and heavy cameras, which could affect racing speeds. It uses 5G's network-splicing capabilities to reserve a part of the public 5G network for private use.Constant mobile connectivity at large sporting events requires assistance from other industry players, said Stephen Giles, a senior consultant at NTT Data, a connectivity consultancy.To solve for the Olympics' scale, Giles anticipates the use of neutral hosts or third-party mobile networks that lease 5G infrastructure to multiple service providers at once."Historically, the approach to providing network connectivity at large events, like the 2012 Olympics, was led by individual mobile-network operators, who were each responsible for putting their own systems in place at venues," he said.But the landscape is evolving as the economics of building extensive connectivity infrastructure don't make sense for one-off events and sports games."Today, we increasingly see independent companies, known as neutral hosts, offering coverage-as-a-service to the network operators," Giles said. Since neutral hosts are shared by multiple stakeholders and used consistently, mobile-service providers don't have to worry about setting up and then taking down connectivity technology for individual events.<h2 id="73672732-f5bf-4408-9b47-66c1d95fe079">High stakes for mobile-internet service providers</h2>With an event as large scale and internationally watched as the Olympics, any internet downtime users experience could pose significant issues for the host city, the International Olympic Committee, and the technology providers underpinning those connections."Our research shows that 5G-smartphone users who face connectivity issues at event venues are <a target="_blank" href="https://www.ericsson.com/en/reports-and-papers/consumerlab/5g/reports/5g-value-turning-performance-into-loyalty#35gperformanceatkeylocationsinfluencesconsumerloyalty">three times more likely</a> to switch providers within six months," Katherine Ainley, the CEO of infrastructure company Ericsson UK and Ireland, told BI.To support the 2024 Olympics' connectivity needs, network providers must prepare to rely on 5G's strength. How do they motivate people? Work together across disciplines? Hire great talent? Handle lean times?Every organization faces many of<a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/work-life-balance-expectations-flexible-work-boundaries-manager-boss-challenges-2023-9"> the same challenges</a>, and it can be incredibly enlightening to see how other people and teams handle them. It makes you smarter and more valuable to your company. You'd want to be able to say, "I've seen how they do it in the sprinkler system industry. The neighbor down the street, or the person across the room at church. The other volunteer at the nonprofit fundraiser. Or the other hiker in the group you occasionally go to.The right people to network with are literally all around you, you just have to reach out and ask. "Hey, I'd love a coffee or a Zoom to understand more about what you do." Almost no one would refuse that conversation.<h2 id="aa00e158-8d3c-45cc-b974-abde4f5c363c">Be curious</h2>But I don't know anything about those other disciplines or organizations, you say?That's the good part. That's what's fun. Meeting people like this is a chance to learn, and to broaden your scope.The key is to be curious and <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/5-ways-get-most-of-networking-event-under-25-minutes-2020-2">ask lots of great questions</a>. Not just what do you do, but tell me about how that works. What does a typical day or month look like? But the bigger the blades, the harder they are to transport.Obstructions such as highway overpasses, power lines, bridges, and tunnels create a logistics nightmare for the delivery of each blade. The company says in press release materials that it plans to build a plane that's 356 feet long, has a wingspan of 261 feet, and is 79 feet tall.For comparison, before it was destroyed by Russia in 2022, the behemoth <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/antonov-an-225-mriya-worlds-largest-cargo-plane-history-details-2020-4">Antonov An-225</a> — a Soviet-era cargo plane also used to carry over-sized loads such as wind turbine blades — was about 276 feet long, had a wingspan of 290 feet, and was about 60 feet tall.<div type="image" title="Antonov AN-225" height="1000" width="2000" msid="108899901" hostid="261" sizebytes="66394"></div><a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/antonov-an-225-mriya-worlds-largest-cargo-plane-history-details-2020-4">The An-225's cargo volume</a> was 46,000 cubic feet, and it could carry about 550,000 lbs of freight.Radia's plane has a cargo bay volume of 272,000 cubic feet — 12 times that of a <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/50th-anniversary-boeing-747-queen-of-the-skies-passenger-flight-2020-1">Boeing 747-400F</a> — and a maximum payload weight capacity of 160,000 lbs, according to the company.This size advantage will allow for the carrying of the more-than-300-foot-long blades — which are loaded through a nose door — and the building of more profitable onshore turbines, Radia said in a press release.Regarding accessibility, Radia said the WindRunner will operate from regional hubs where the blade turbines are imported or produced, and deliver them directly to wind farms by landing on "a 6,000-foot semi-prepared dirt or gravel landing strip" at the sites.This would allow WindRunner to land at "almost any commercial airport around the world," Radia said, noting the aircraft is designed with a range of 1,200 miles at its maximum payload and a cruising altitude of 41,000 feet. Freight like these cannot be easily broken down into smaller pieces for transport on traditional widebody freighters with side doors, for example, rather than nose or rear doors.While the demand for <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/fedex-pilots-american-airlines-psa-freight-cargo-demand-travel-2023-11">regular air cargo has cooled off since the pandemic-driven boom</a>, the lucrative outsize market is estimated to grow from a worth of about $14 billion in 2022 to $33 billion by 2030, according to the research and consulting firm, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.360iresearch.com/library/intelligence/outsize-air-cargo?utm_source=openpr&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_campaign=analyst">360iResearch</a>.These oversize missions typically require a special aircraft design big and flexible enough to accommodate the awkward cargo, with the nose-loading door on Radia's WindRunner being commonplace on competing freighters.The <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/an-124-new-largest-cargo-plane-photos-2023-9">heavy-lift An-124 Ruslan,</a> the An-225's sister jet that is mostly operated by Russian and Ukrainian air carriers, has carried several uniquely shaped objects over the years, like trains and generators. According to a <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2023-10-08/how-china-s-rich-are-using-underground-networks-to-move-their-money-abroad?srnd=premium" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Bloomberg</a> report on Sunday, wealthy Chinese citizens have been finding unusual, sometimes illegal ways to move money overseas to keep their cash safe amid the uncertainty. Funds can move through an informal, underground banking system known as "hawala," the Bloomberg report said, which isn't regulated and is largely contingent on faith. Advisers to the rich have reported a surge in demand for backup options like these as Beijing tries to gain control over the financial tumult in the country.Wealthy and middle class families feel the need to keep money outside of China, either for the sake of diversifying or to build a nest egg for future immigration.Yet, per Bloomberg, opportunities to move cash without breaking any rules are limited, and individuals can typically wire no more than $50,000 a year overseas, and emigrating only offers a one-time chance to move money."These agencies have sprouted to meet soaring demand," Joel Gallo, an adjunct professor of finance at New York University Shanghai, told Bloomberg. "They act as quasi-banking firms, yet operate without the scrutiny of one and adroitly engage in regulatory arbitrage by standing in a gray zone."The size of these furtive systems isn't known for sure, but they are global and pervasive. One report from 2021 saw an operation that spanned 75.6 billion yuan in assets spread across five organizations and 8,000 banks. Citing the UK's National Crime Agency, Bloomberg reported that it's highly likely these underground banks have pools of funds ready in key locations in order to users to get their money quickly in local currencies. Still, those who choose to skirt the rules in order to move cash around are putting themselves at risk. Those caught using illegal exchange services in mainland China are typically fined 30% or more of the total amount that they had attempted to transfer. For larger volumes, serious jail time is also a risk, the report said.What's more, to rely on this system, individuals risk associating with criminals. According to Bloomberg, Chinese banks that ultimately settle exchanges with hawala routinely use cash generated by criminal groups that participated in drug trafficking or human trafficking. In any case, the demand to move money remains high. <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/stock-market-wealth-millionaires-2008-ubs-rich-wealthy-economists-finance-2023-8">UBS' wealth report</a> found that 6.2 million Chinese had assets worth more than $1 million at the end of last year. In August, the real estate consultancy Juwai IQI said it expects more than 700,000 Chinese people to emigrate in the coming two years.Should Beijing crackdown further on cash transfer laws, experts told Bloomberg the demand will remain high, with a source telling Bloomberg that as much as $150 billion is expected to exit the country this year.

The company, which has a current employee strength of 488, is looking to hire another 370 people in the coming months, Prashant Pitti, co-founder of EaseMyTrip, told Business Insider. Pitti said, “As there is a huge requirement to grow organically and inorganically, that is why we are looking forward to doubling our headcount by next year or so.” The hiring will be done across various domains like technology, marketing, support sectors to name a few. In a conversation with Business Insider, Pitti also expressed his interest in hiring interns as well across product and analyst segments. He said, “We are more than happy to hire interns on the product side, analyst side. If we can connect to some universities, we’re happy to take interns.” When asked about how many internships the travel company is planning to roll out, Pitti said, “ There is no specific number in our mind, but we’re really looking forward to welcoming interns or freshers in our team.” Talking about the growth plans of the company, Pitti also mentioned that EaseMyTrip will be acquiring a few more companies in the near future, but didn’t reveal the name of the companies. “There are many more acquisitions which are in the pipeline.. But we can’t reveal the names and other details,” Pitti told Business Insider. EaseMyTrip, in 2021, had acquired three companies — YoloBus, a premium intercity mobility platform, Spree Hospitality, a hospitality management company and Traviat, a business to business travel platform — for an undisclosed amount. “ We also plan on leveraging our vast agent network and utilising it for the holiday bookings which shall complement the company’s hotel and holiday businesses. We also aim to rapidly grow across our international markets where we have recently expanded our international presence to six countries where we added the Philippines, Thailand, and the USA as well,” he added.
