New Delhi, Feb 1 () Over 15,000 schools will be qualitatively strengthened as per reforms proposed in the new National Education Policy (NEP), which will help in handholding and mentoring other schools, according to the Union Budget for 2021-22 announced on Monday. A total of 100 new Sainik Schools will also be set up in partnership with NGOs, private schools and states. "More than 15,000 schools will be qualitatively strengthened to include all components of the National Education Policy. They shall emerge as exemplar schools in their regions, handholding and mentoring other schools to achieve the ideals of the policy," Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said in her budget speech. Making board exams easy, reduction of curriculum to core concepts, replacement of 10+2 structure of school curricula with a 5+3+3+4 structure and teaching up to at least class 5 in the mother tongue or a regional language, are among the many school education reforms outlined in the new National Education Policy, which was announced last year. This is the first budget after the notification of the new NEP. "A total of 100 new Sainik Schools will be set up in partnership with NGOs, private schools and states," Sitharaman said. The Sainik Schools are a system of schools in India established and managed by the Sainik Schools Society under the Ministry of Defence. There are over 30 Sainik Schools in the country at present. The Ministry of Education's Department of School Education and Literacy will receive Rs 54,873.66 crore for the upcoming financial year as against Rs 59,845 crore last year. The funds for the Kendriya Vidyalayas saw an increase as the KVs have been issued Rs 6,800 crore for the upcoming financial year as compared to Rs 5,516 crore last year. The budget allocation to Navodaya Vidyalayas has been increased by Rs 500 crore. Last year, Rs 3,300 crore were allocated to Navodaya Vidyalayas while for this year, the funds have been raised to Rs 3,800 crore. The mid-day meal scheme saw an increase of Rs 500 crore as the total allocation has been raised to Rs 11,500 crore from Rs 11,000 last year. GJS KJ

(Eds: Updating with details ) New Delhi, Feb 1 () Strengthening of over 15,000 schools for effective implementation of the new National Education Policy, 750 new Eklavya model residential schools, 100 new Sainik schools and phase-wise reforming of CBSE board exams from 2022-23 session, are among the announcements made for the school education sector in the Union budget 2021-22 on Monday. "More than 15,000 schools will be qualitatively strengthened to include all components of the National Education Policy (NEP). They shall emerge as exemplar schools in their regions, handholding and mentoring other schools to achieve the ideals of the policy," Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said in her budget speech. "For the past few years, our prime minister has been engaging with students every year before their board exams to help them overcome anxiety and stress. In this direction, we will introduce CBSE board exam reforms in a phased manner to be effective from the 2022-23 academic session. Exams will move away from rote-learning and students shall be tested on their conceptual clarity, analytical skills and application of knowledge to real life situations. "Students have so far been evaluated on unidimensional parameters. There will be a complete shift from using assessments to not only judge the cognitive levels of the learner, but also using it as an opportunity to identify the unique strengths and the potential of the child. To this effect, a holistic progress card is envisaged to provide students with valuable information on their strengths, areas of interest, needed areas of focus and thereby, helping them in making optimal career choices," she added. Taking this further, in 2021-22, we will enable the training of 56 lakh school teachers through the National Initiative for School Heads and Teachers for Holistic Advancement (NISTHA)," Sitharaman said. New Delhi, Apr 5 () Twenty-eight institutions, departments and various autonomous bodies under the HRD Ministry have contributed over Rs 38 crore to the Prime Minister's Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situation (PM-CARES) Fund to combat the coronavirus pandemic. Earlier, HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank' had donated his one month salary and Rs one crore from the MPLADS fund. "Twenty-eight different institutions, autonomous organisations and departments of the Ministry of HRD have contributed more than Rs 38.91 crore to PM CARES Fund to fight against COVID-19," the ministry said in an official statement. The teaching and non-teaching staff of Kendriya Vidyalayas have contributed over Rs 10 crore and navodaya schools donated Rs 7.5 crore. According to the Health Ministry, the number of confirmed novel coronavirus cases in the country climbed to 3,374 on Sunday, while the death toll rose to 79. GJS SNE

COVID-19: 28 institutions, depts under HRD Ministry donate over Rs 38 cr to PM-CARES fund

Hamirpur (HP), May 26 () Fifteen more people tested positive for COVID-19 in Himachal Pradesh's Hamirpur on Tuesday, taking the total number of active cases in the district to 71, an official said. Of the 15 new cases, eight people had returned to Hamirpur two days ago in a special train from Maharashtra's Thane, Deputy Commissioner Hairkesh Meena said. They were institutionally quarantined after their arrival, he added. Four of those who returned from Maharashtra -- a 65-year-old woman from Nadaun, a 50-year-old man from Terti village, a 44-year-old man from Nadaun and a 49-year-old-man from Jhareri village -- were staying in institutional quarantine centres in Baru and Darkoti, the official said. The other four –- a 49-year-old man from Jhanayara, a 45-year-old man from Dhanghota, a 50-year-old man from Telhi and a 26-year-old woman from Nadaun region -- were institutionally quarantined at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Dungri, he said. Hamirpur continues to have the highest number of coronavirus cases as over 40 per cent of the total active cases in the state are from the district. It has 71 active cases, while six of the total 78 cases have recovered and one died. Twenty-four people tested positive for the novel coronavirus in Himachal Pradesh on Tuesday, taking the overall number of cases in the state to 248, officials said. DJI AD

15 more COVID-19 cases in HP's Hamirpur

(Eds: Updating with additional details) New Delhi, Jul 15 () Girls outshone boys yet again in class 10 examination, results of which were announced by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Wednesday, recording a pass percentage of 91.46. There has been a marginal increase of 0.36 per cent in the pass percentage as against last year. However, the number of students scoring above 90 per cent and 95 per cent have reduced this year by 3 per cent and 1 per cent, respectively. The board did not announce any merit list this year in view of the exceptional circumstances amid the COVID-19 pandemic. While girls have achieved a pass percentage of 93.31, pass percentage of boys and transgenders is 90.14 and 78.95, respectively. Over 1.84 lakh students scored above 90 per cent and more than 41,000 students scored above 95 per cent marks. A total of 18.73 lakh students appeared in the exam, out of which 17.13 lakh students passed. A total of 1.5 lakh student have been placed in compartment. Trivandrum performed best amongst all regions with 99.28 pc pass percentage, followed by Chennai region with 98.95 per cent while Bengaluru stands at third position with 98.23 per cent pass percentage. The pass percentage in Delhi was up by around 5 per cent. While the pass percentage in 2019 was 80.97 per cent, it has been recorded at 85.86 per cent. The foreign schools affiliated to the CBSE have achieved a pass percentage of 98.67 per cent. Last year, their pass percentage was 98.75 per cent. The best performance has been achieved by Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) with a pass percentage of 99.23 per cent, followed by that of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) with 98.66 pass percentage. While the class 12 exams were rescheduled to be held in July in all the parts of the country, class 10 exams were rescheduled only in North East Delhi, which was affected by riots in March. However, later all exams were cancelled, following spike in COVID-19 cases. For subjects for which exams could not be conducted, the board has announced the results on the basis of an alternative assessment scheme. As per the assessment scheme, for students, who had appeared in the exams in more than three subjects, the average of the marks obtained in the best three performing subjects has been be awarded in the subjects whose examinations have not been conducted. For students who have appeared in the exams in only three subjects, the average of the marks obtained in the best two performing subjects has been awarded in the subjects whose examinations have not been conducted. Over 91 pc students pass class 10 exams, number of students scoring above 90 and 95 pc drops

India reported 17 more cases of the <keyword id="1609796" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="omicron" source="Orion">Omicron</keyword> variant of <keyword id="8763838" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="COVID-19" source="Orion">COVID-19</keyword> on Sunday - nine persons in Rajasthan capital Jaipur, seven in Maharashtra's Pune district and a fully vaccinated man who arrived in Delhi from Tanzania - taking the tally to 21 in the country. Most of those who tested positive either recently arrived from African countries or were in contact with such people. With this, four states and the national capital have now reported cases of the potentially more contagious variant which has sparked a fresh alert across the world. The nine people who tested positive in Jaipur include four members of a family who returned from South Africa recently. "Genome sequencing has confirmed that nine persons are infected with the omicron variant," Rajasthan health secretary Vaibhav Galriya said. The new cases in Maharashtra include a woman who along with her two daughters came from Nigeria, her brother and a man who returned from Finland in the last week of November, officials said. The total number of confirmed Omicron cases in Maharashtra has gone up to eight now. In a statement, the state health department said, "The 44-year-old, woman, who is a Nigerian citizen of Indian origin, her daughters aged 18 and 12, arrived on November 24 from Lagos in Nigeria to meet her brother in Pimpri Chinchwad area. "The woman, her two daughters, her 45-year-old brother and his two daughters aged 7 and one-and-a-half years, have tested positive for the Omicron variant as per the report given by the Pune-based National Institute of Virology (NIV)." Their thirteen contacts had been traced and tested, it said. The country reported the first two cases of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 on Thursday in Karnataka -- a 66-year-old South African flyer and a 46-year-old Bengaluru doctor with no travel history. Both men are fully vaccinated. On Saturday, a 72-year-old NRI from Gujarat and a 33-year-old man from Maharashtra's Thane tested positive for the new strain. The marine engineer, who had arrived in Delhi from South Africa on November 23 and had then taken a flight to Mumbai, is currently undergoing treatment at a COVID-19 care centre in Kalyan town, located about 50 km from Maharashtra capital. "He is stable and responding well to treatment," deputy director of health services, Mumbai circle, Dr Gauri Rathod told PTI. The first patient to test positive for Omicron in Delhi is a 37-year-old resident of Ranchi who had travelled from Tanzania to Doha and from there to Delhi on a Qatar Airways flight on December 2. He stayed in Johannesburg, South Africa, for a week, officials told PTI. The person is fully vaccinated and is currently admitted to the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan (LNJP) Hospital with mild symptoms , an official said. He had to take a connecting flight to Ranchi, where he lives with his family. Since he gave his sample at the IGI Airport which came out positive, we admitted him to LNJP hospital, the official said. Authorities are trying to locate and isolate 10 people who occupied the seats close to this passenger on the flight. Delhi's Health Minister Satyendar Jain said 17 COVID-19 patients and six of their contacts have been admitted to the LNJP Hospital so far. The Omicron variant has been found in one of the 12 samples sent for genome sequencing so far, according to a preliminary report," he said "The patient complained of sore throat, fever and body ache. He is stable now," Medical Director Suresh Kumar said. The Delhi health minister said banning international flights is the most effective way to contain the spread of the Omicron variant even as he appealed to people to wear masks and take COVID-19 vaccine. He said there is a 99 percent chance that the mask can save people from all COVID-19 variants, be it Alpha, Beta, Delta or Omicron. Under the new norms, RT-PCR tests are mandatory for passengers arriving from the "at-risk" countries and they will be allowed to leave the airport only after the results come. According to the Centre, the countries designated as "at-risk" are European countries, including the UK, and South Africa, Brazil, Botswana, China, Mauritius, New Zealand, Zimbabwe, Singapore, Hong Kong and Israel. Also, two percent of the passengers arriving on flights from other countries will be subjected to the test randomly. India saw a single-day rise of 2,796 fatalities with Bihar and Kerala carrying out a reconciliation exercise of COVID-19 data, pushing the country's death toll to 4,73,326, while 8,895 new infections were reported, according to Union health ministry data updated on Sunday. As many 2,426 deaths in Bihar and 263 deaths in Kerala were added. India's total tally of COVID-19 cases has increased to 3,46,33,255, the data updated at 8 AM showed. The daily rise in new coronavirus infections has remained below 50,000 for 161 consecutive days now. The active cases stand at 99,155, comprising 0.29 percent of the total infections, the lowest since March 2020. The national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 98.35 percent, the health ministry said. States are re-tightening preventive measures and ramping up vaccination in the face of the Omicron threat. The Union Territory of Puducherry has made it mandatory for all persons to get the COVID-19 vaccine and those skipping it would face penal action. The Director of Health and Family Welfare Services G.Sriramulu stated this in an order on Saturday night. Tamil Nadu's Health Minister Ma Subramanian said the state has not detected any cases of Omicron variant and the five individuals who tested positive for COVID-19 after arriving from the at-risk countries were 'asymptomatic' and were 'fine' at the King Institute of Preventive Medicine and Research hospital in China the city. The government has intensified the preventive measures in all the international airports and also at the border districts of the state, he said. With people resuming activities following the easing of curbs, cluster cases are being reported in some places. Telangana reported that 43 students of a private medical college in Karimnagar district have tested positive for COVID-19. In Karnataka, 59 students of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in Chikkamagaluru district were among those who tested positive for COVID 19. Two women publishers from Pune attending the 94th Marathi literary meet in Nashik in Maharashtra have tested positive for coronavirus, civic officials said. Thousands of people had attended the three-day Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan from December 3 to 5. Officials said the two women will be quarantined either in Nashik or will be allowed to travel to their places and authorities concerned will be asked to keep them under observation. Authorities are trying to track the people who had come in contact with the two infected women. These contacts will be tested as per the protocol, according to the officials. Even amid the emergence of new variants like Omircron, vaccination remains one of the strongest pillars of protection against disease and infection, according to experts. The issue of administering an 'additional' dose of COVID-19 vaccine to immunocompromised individuals will be deliberated upon in the meeting of the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation scheduled to be held on December 6, official sources said. According to officials, an additional dose of vaccine is different from a booster dose. A booster dose is given to an individual after a predefined period when the immune response due to primary vaccination is presumed to have declined, while an additional dose is given to immunocompromised and immunosuppressed individuals when a primary schedule of vaccination does not provide adequate protection from the infection and disease, they explained. India's Omicron COVID-19 strain tally rises to 21 with 17 more testing positive for the new variant

The CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) is expected to release the CBSE Class 10th Results sometime in the next week (2nd week of May 2019). Earlier there were wide spread speculations that the results might be out on May 5, 2019. However, the board has confirmed recently that the results of the CBSE 10th class exams will be declared soon in this week. The CBSE class 10th results can be checked on the official website of the Central Board of Secondary Education cbse.nic.in, cbseresults.nic.in. Some other third party websites like examresults.in, indiaresults.com and results.gov.in also publish these results for the convenience of the candidates. In the academic year 2018-19, CBSE conducted the class 10th exams between February 21 and March 29, 2019. The official statistics released by the board says around 18.19 lakh students appeared for the CBSE 10th Board Exam 2019. During the last academic year 2017-18, CBSE announced the results on May 29, 2019 at 4pm. Approximately 16.38 lakh students appeared for the CBSE Class 10th Board Exams in 2018. The board said that the pass percentage for CBSE 2018 Class 10th Exams was 86.07%. About 88.67% girls and 85.32% boys passed in these examinations. In this year, a total number of 31,14,821 students appeared for the CBSE class 10 and class 12 board exams put together. CBSE Class 12th results were declared by the CBSE on May 2, 2019. Earlier there were speculations that the CBSE results for 12th class will be announced only in the third week of May 2019. In fact it came as a surprise to many people that the 12th class results were declared on Thursday, May 2, 2019. There were widespread talks that the CBSE class 10th results will be announced either on May 5 or May 6 2019. Ruling out such assumptions, CBSE public relations officer Rama Sharma said what has been circulated in the social media is only a fake news. And that the board will announce the schools and students regarding the date of declaration of results. In her message, she had stated, “It is to inform all principals, students, parents and public that the CBSE Class 10 results will not be declared today (May 5, 2019)” Sharma added in her message that CBSE will "duly inform students about the date, time and arrangements to access results, through official communication". The class 10 board exams conducted by the CBSE took place in about 4,974 centers across the country. There were also 72 exam centers abroad. CBSE is the national level education board in India established to control the public and private schools in the country and abroad following the syllabus offered by the board. The Union Government of India controls and manages the CBSE. Approximately, the board manages about 19,500 schools in India and more than 200 schools spread across 28 countries abroad. CBSE provides affiliation to all the Kendriya Vidyalayas in the country in addition to the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas and all the private schools approved by the Central Government in the country and abroad.<a name="_GoBack"></a>

Additionally, in a major push to Make In India, Jaitley announced 100 international skill centres across India to help youth who are seeking jobs overseas. 
 
3479 educationally backward blocks will be given focus. A Swayam platform will be launched with atleast 350 online courses and it will be made available through DTH.

The then budget included 62 new Navodaya Vidyalayas to be opened, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan to increasing focus on quality of education, regulatory architecture to be provided to ten public and ten private institutions to emerge as world-class Teaching and Research Institutions, set up of higher education financing agency with initial capital base of 1000 Crores and the digital depository for school leaving certificates, college degrees, academic awards &amp; mark sheets to be set-up.
