The authorities in Navi Mumbai have registered a case against six people, accused of defrauding job seekers of Rs 1.31 crore, according to officials from Kharghar police station. The accused allegedly promised clerical positions in the <keyword id="19909154" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-Railways" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Indian Railways" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Indian Railways">Indian Railways</keyword> to 20 victims, collecting the funds through digital payments and cash between September 2022 and April 2023. <h2>The Scam: False promises of Railway jobs </h2> The six people, as per a PTI report, contacted the victims with guarantees of securing clerical roles in the Indian Railways. Over the course of several months, the accused collected a total of Rs 1.31 crore from the job aspirants, giving false assurances about placements. However, when the victims, all residents of the Kharghar area, began asking about their job status, the accused stopped responding and failed to return the money. One of the six accused people allegedly misappropriated the funds, using the collected money for personal purposes. It was reported that this person used the victims’ money to finance the construction of a house in Kolhapur, adding another layer of betrayal to the scam. <h2>Legal action and investigation </h2> Realising they had been duped, the victims filed a complaint with the Kharghar police. Following this, the police registered an FIR against the six accused under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 420 (cheating), 406 (criminal breach of trust), and 34 (acts done by several persons with common intention). The police are currently working to locate and apprehend the individuals involved. The case highlights the ongoing risk of job-related scams, where fraudsters prey on the aspirations of job seekers, especially in sectors like the Indian Railways, known for secure government jobs. Similarly, average rents in Hyderabad increased from Rs 22.01 psf to Rs 22.93 psf per month, while in Ahmedabad, rents rose from Rs 17.25 psf to Rs 17.94 psf per month. The report observed a significant 14.8% quarterly increase in rental demand during this period, following a 16% quarterly increase in the previous quarter. However, the report asserted that the supply has decreased by 2.2% quarterly across the cities due to high absorption rates, leading to a rise in rents. The highest rents are in cities of Mumbai (Rs 82.28 psf) per month, Delhi (Rs 33.72 psf) per month and <keyword id="19919131" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="thane" source="keywords">Thane</keyword> (Rs 29.84 psf) per month. The <keyword id="22641758" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Magicbricks-report" source="keywords">Magicbricks report</keyword> further observed that average rents in Greater Noida is Rs 14.52 psf per month, Rs 20.10 psf per month in Noida and Rs 28 psf per month in Bengaluru. Moreso, metro to non-metro travel is also gaining traction, which can add to the passenger growth momentum. The number of domestic airports is expected to rise from 140 to 220. The cherry on the top of the cake is that the market is gravitating towards a ‘cosy’ duopoly after GoFirst’s grounding last year and SpiceJet’s ongoing financial troubles. Fewer players – dominated by IndiGo and Air India — means more pricing discipline which can drive yields over the long term. “Since the entire fleet of Go First is expected to stay grounded and Spice Jet’s operational capacity is also likely to fall by 70% by March 2024, the industry shall have two large players with a combined domestic market share of around 75%. IndiGo is likely to benefit from market share gains across categories amid weakening of small players,” says Nuvama. Going global Along with domestic growth, India itself has plans to become an aviation hub which can benefit its aviation players. “Strong focus on international expansion continues and company (Indigo) as well as Indian regulators believe India can become an important global hub for international-to-international travel travel, akin to the Middle East,” said a research report by UBS. Indigo, which already has over 60% market share in the domestic market is at a unique position to expand internationally too. “An airline with double of today's size, global reach and footprint by the year 2030. That is the ambitious target,” Indigo CEO Pieter Elbers told PTI in an interview on Wednesday. The company is also increasing its capacity by anywhere between 11-13% in FY25. It’s in the process of adding wide body aircraft ie. A321 XLRs to cover mid to long haul markets. These aircraft are expected to be in service over the next two years. “The company expects its international segment’s share to rise to around 30% by FY25E from around 27% currently,” says Nuvama. Moreover, it has increased its codeshare destinations (in agreement with other airlines) to 49 – 35 within Europe and seven within Australia. Its destinations in general are at 121, with 33 in Asia and 88 in India. “We maintain our positive stance on Indigo considering strong growth prospects of the Indian aviation industry, share gains in international travel, efficient cost structure and operational excellence,” says UBS. Even as it has around 70 aircraft grounded due to issues with Pratt &amp; Whitney engines and more, it’s not too much of a dampner, believe brokerages. As per management commentary, grounded aircraft will remain at current levels for the next 1-1.5 years, and will see a sharp decline after that. Our protest is now over. Our request has been accepted. We will accept the letter from him. I will drink juice at the hands of the Chief Minister," Patil said this while addressing a press conference on Friday night. Referring to the demands of giving Kunbi certificates to all 54 lakh people whose data has been found till now, Patil said that they will be given the certificates soon. "54 lakh entries were found for our fight. They will be given the certificate soon," he said. Earlier on Friday, Patil warned the state government that if their demands were not met, then protestors would march towards Mumbai on Saturday morning. He also urged the Maharashtra government to withdraw all the cases registered by the police regarding the demand for Maratha reservations in the state. Meanwhile, Maharashtra Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha said that the ordinance that was passed has the solution to all the problems, so there is no need to continue the protests. "A movement that was going on in Maharashtra for the Maratha reservation under the leadership of Manoj Jarange Patil has reached a solution. The ordinance that was passed has the solution to all the problems. Manoj Jarange Patil has announced that since the solution has been received, there is no need to continue the protests. CM Eknath Shinde will end Manoj Jarange Patil's fast with juice. The movement has reached a solution," Lodha said on Friday.
