He was in one of the panel discussions at the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Startup+Standup+India">Startup Standup India </a>event, and held nothing back. This 38-year-old stood out as he called a spade a spade, and we knew we had our man. 
 
Few days later, after the hullaballoo of Modi’s startup event faded, we chatted up a storm with this Indian entrepreneur, and it was about startups, VCs and the Bubble! 
 
On Startup Policy: ‘Overall, I am happy.’ 
This is the first time that the government has recognized <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=startups">startups</a> and what they can do. One can always come back and say that the policy can be significantly improved, etc. 
 
Overall, I am happy. It’s up to the industry to work with the government to sharpen these policies. 
 
On Modi’s <keyword id="982552" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Startup-fund">Startup Fund</keyword>: ‘The concern is around the process, not the intent.’ 
The government can’t invest directly into a private company. The <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=startup+fund">startup fund</a> is probably the only way the government can put in money.

On FDI: ‘I’ll push the component around investors.’ 
The component around investors is what I’ll push for. We need more policies around that. Though the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=capital+gains+exemption">capital gains exemption</a> is a huge step, but more could have been done. 
 
On what’s needed to get startups to list in India: ‘Disclosure norms have to be relaxed’ 
In reality there are two problems. One is the size of the potential <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=investment+market">investment market</a>. One has to think if it makes sense for Indian investors to invest in Internet stocks. Also, specific policies need to be relaxed. These include disclosure norms on profitability, and so on. 
 
On the Startup Bubble: ‘I don’t buy into that.’ 
The bubble is a lot about the exuberance imagined about India. I don’t buy into that. 
 
Frankly, I think it’s got a lot to do with the media fallout. Bubbles are created when something positive is happening. People get over- enthusiastic about it and take the tide higher than it should go. 
 
The reality is bubbles are required to create an industry. Some companies, including ours need to deliver the promises they’ve made to investors, and we need to do everything in our ability to do that. If we don’t do a good job collectively, it’ll just be a collective setback for the industry. 
 
On Valuations: ‘Valuations can be corrected 10-15% when need be.’ 
Valuations can be corrected 10-15% when need be. That doesn’t take away anything from the larger picture. As long as you’re a company that makes profits, all’s good. As for people who’re investing, they know exactly what they’re doing. 
 
On future consolidation: ‘They’d like to fight it out. Let’s see how far the fight goes.’ 
No, I don’t. Think of it this way, India is a large market where everyone is pumping in their billions. 
 
I don’t see entities necessarily looking for consolidation. They’d like to fight it out. Let’s see how far the fight goes. 
 
Advice to young startups 
If you want the perfect time to launch one, this is it. There are problems that entrepreneurs can pick and solve. Money is not a concern. Most importantly, the stigma of failure is now seen as a positive. There’s nothing to lose, just go ahead and do it.

Sage, a UK-based accounting, and payroll company stated this in a research and reinstated the belief that the premier institution is still numero uno for attaining success. 
 
In terms of countries that are home to the most number of unicorns, US tops the list with 144 unicorns, followed by China with 47. India grabbed the third spot with 10.

 The <keyword id="73593" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="University-of-California">University of California</keyword> came third with 18 unicorn founders and <keyword id="6354859" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="IIT">IIT</keyword> followed with 12 founders. 
 India is home to 10 unicorn companies from e-commerce giants <keyword id="6354742" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Flipkart">Flipkart</keyword>, <keyword id="541988" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="SnapDeal">Snapdeal</keyword> and ShopClues to cab aggregator Ola, restaurant aggregator Zomato, classified ads platform Quickr, digital payments company <keyword id="6357120" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="PayTM">Paytm</keyword>, mobile ad tech player InMobi, messaging app Hike and analytics company Mu Sigma.

However, indicating that experience literally pays, the research said those who founded more than one company have, on average, a 34.5% higher valuation than those who founded just one company ($4.29bn vs $5.88bn).

According to the Additional Chief Secretary, Home, Avanish Awasthi, "The NGT's order is a detailed one and we will comply with it. The air quality is deteriorating and steps have to be taken to address the issue." Cities including Lucknow, Varanasi, Prayagraj, Bareilly, Firozabad, Jhansi, Kanpur, Bulandshahr, Moradabad and RaeBareli may go in for a complete ban on use of crackers during Diwali. A senior official said that District Magistrates will be taking decision, keeping in mind the pollution level in their respective districts. While Meerut has already imposed a ban on firecrackers, Lucknow has so far banned only certain categories of firecrackers. Among the firecrackers banned in Lucknow are the most preferred 'ladis' or 'chatai' (cracker series) and similar high decibel crackers. "Sale of only those crackers that are in compliance with the Supreme Court's order would be allowed," said Naveen Arora, Joint Commissioner of Police (JCP). "On festivals like Diwali and Gurupurab, fireworks would be allowed only between 8 pm and 10 pm. On Christmas and New Year's Eve, fireworks may start from 11.55 pm and continue till 12.30 am," the guidelines said. Besides, the district administration has defined 'No Cracker Zones' in the city, including hospital, nursing homes, educational institutions, court and zoological gardens. Agra Additional District Magistrate, Ajay Tiwari, said that bursting of firecrackers will not be allowed. "Instructions have already been issued to all police stations to initiate strong action against storage of firecrackers or their use," he said. Agra District Magistrate Prabhu Nath Singh, said: "No fresh license for sale of firecrackers is being issued. All renewals too are on hold and so is the practice of issuing temporary license." Agra has been one of the highly polluted cities in Uttar Pradesh this season. Uttar Pradesh will comply with NGT orders on firecrackers — Lucknow, Varanasi, Kanpur may impose a complete ban during Diwali

Shops and business establishments, other than those dealing with essential services, remained closed in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday after the government reimposed lockdown-like restrictions across the state to slow the spread of coronavirus. The government on Thursday had announced that restrictions will be reimposed in the state from 10 pm on Friday to 5 am on Monday in the state following the surge in coronavirus cases. However, it permitted the functioning of essential services and the opening of religious places during this period. "The curbs have been imposed in the state to check the spread of COVID-19 and other communicable diseases," Chief Secretary R K Tiwari had said in an order communicated to all district authorities in the state. Roads wore a deserted look on Saturday, as tempos, taxis and government buses did not operate. Only vehicles carrying essential goods were seen plying on the roads. Police personnel were posted at all prominent crossings of the state capital, and they were seen maintaining a close watch on people moving on two-wheelers. Since it is the second Saturday of the month, the government and private offices remained closed across the state. Markets in prominent areas of Lucknow such as Hazratganj, Aminabad, Chowk, Gomtinagar, Indiranagar, Latouche Road, Alambagh, Hewett Road, Aliganj and Gudumba remained shut. However, the shops selling essential items were open. In Kanpur, Naveen Market, Somdutt Plaza, Civil Lines, Meston Road, Panki, Chamanganj, Kidwainagar and other areas remained closed. Rohit Kohli, a distributor of computers and laptops, said, "All the shops in the market (Somdutt Plaza) will remain closed for two days." We will follow the directives of the government, he added. In Prayagraj, the main markets in Civil Lines, Mutthiganj, Lukerganj, Badshahi Mandi, Ashoknagar and Nawab Yusuf Ali Road also remained closed. Before the imposition of the restrictions similar to lockdown, people were seen crowding shops to store essential items. Additional Chief Secretary Awanish Awasthi on Friday had said directives have been issued to police to ensure that the restrictions are strictly enforced and violators strongly dealt with. NEW DELHI | LUCKNOW: The phone rang at around 1 am on Tuesday morning at Ganapati Guest House — a quaint inn by the ghats in <keyword id="6357203" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Varanasi">Varanasi</keyword> — and woke up its manager Nagendra Dubey out of his post-Holi slumber. 
 The caller, from Gujarat, wanted to know if he could accommodate 10 people arriving in the city to campaign for <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword>, BJP's PM candidate. "I had to say 'no', as this is a small place and we are fully booked. 
 
I suggested a few places near the cantonment and hung up… but I got a similar call this morning — from Hyderabad — asking for rooms," Dubey said. 
 Varanasi, Narendra Modi's constituency and possibly <keyword id="260213" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Arvind-Kejriwal">Arvind Kejriwal</keyword>'s too, is set to witness boom times as thousands descend on the city, volunteering either for BJP's Modi or <keyword id="6354944" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="40" keywordseo="Aam-Aadmi-Party">Aam Aadmi Party</keyword>'s Kejriwal. Social media is acting, predictably, as a force multiplier in rush of political tourists to Varanasi. 
 On <keyword id="6354616" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Twitter">Twitter</keyword> #ChaloVaranasi is already trending. Entrepreneur Naveen James, for instance, says there are at least 70-80 people on Twitter and in different groups on the site who he knows are planning a trip. "The idea is to spread the message through the 40-odd days left," he says. He himself has packed his bags to leave on Thursday for a week, after which he will head to Kerala to spread the message there. 
 <keyword id="6356115" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="AAP">AAP</keyword> supporters too trooping in 
 "The idea is to explain Modi's development agenda and its benefits to villagers," says entrepreneur Naveen James. Like him, hundreds of Modi supporters from across the country, and outside — from <keyword id="30033" type="COMPANY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Bihar">Bihar</keyword>, Nagaland, Gujarat, Gurgaon and Kenya — especially Namo's young admirers are planning to descend on the city to seek support from locals for their PM nominee. At the same time, thousands of people who do not want Modi to be PM are also on their way — many AAP supporters from places such as Odisha and Maharashtra, who campaigned for Kejriwal during the Delhi assembly polls, are among them. 
 Santosh Tiwari, who runs an ice cream business in Mombasa, Kenya, has planned a one-month sabbatical from his business to come down to Varanasi. Also on his agenda is a trip to south India. "A few of us plan to backpack and hitchhike through the constituency and in south India for a month, spreading the message to choose the right candidate," says Tiwari, who also doubles up as an international steel trader. These volunteers will join a barrage of party workers, sociologists and journalists who would be part of the stellar battle between a PM aspirant and a possible giant killer, who defeated the incumbent chief minister of Delhi <keyword id="5267" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Sheila-Dikshit">Sheila Dikshit</keyword> during the assembly elections in December. 
 
These 'political tourists' are good for the city and Varanasi's hoteliers and local businesses are already excited by this sudden influx. At the end of the tourist season, this is extended business for them. "Business will grow 100%. Modi's supporters will come in large numbers and they would need space to stay. It will be like an extended tourist season," says the manager at Pratap Palace, a hotel at the town-centre. He didn't want to be named. 
 
Taxi operators are too are enthused by the big business they are likely to get when the Modi and Kejriwal bandwagons descend on to the city in the next few days. Pratik Singh of Ganges Travels says he is expecting business to boom in the days ahead as the election campaign picks up. "Hordes of party workers and volunteers of BJP and supporters of Arvind Kejriwal are expected to start arriving in the next two-three days. There will be huge demand for taxis and we have geared up to cater to their needs," he says. So far, Team Modi has a definitive head-start. 
 
Sandeep Srivastava, who works with an MNC in Gurgaon, has been working with his friends on voter registration for the past two months. He has managed to spare 10-15 days after the elections in Delhi are over (since he has a vote in Delhi) for a trip to the holy city where he wants to go door-to-door. 
 
Outside of Varanasi city as well, there are there are volunteers who are spreading the Modi message in villages. A group of volunteers, organised under the hashtag #TeamKashi, is visiting villages and going to doorsteps. Temsutala Imsong from Mokokchung, Nagaland, took a break from her job at an MNC and has been talking to women in villages in the constituency. "There is a lot of fervor. They want to vote for Modi," she says. 
 Shiv Mishra, who runs an agro-commodities business in <keyword id="6354925" type="COMPANY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Kolkata">Kolkata</keyword> but is originally from Varanasi, spends three days a week in the constituency. "My advantage is that I can converse with villagers around here in their dialect. I tell them about the infrastructure that I have seen in Gujarat and how it has made lives and businesses better," says Mishra. 
 
A hotelier in Varanasi says he heard a rumour that 400 vans are to travel from Gujarat to Varanasi packed with Modi supporters. While it is good for business, what they can't understand is how the old city's roads will manage them. "If all of them really come into the city, it will be difficult to move here. There will be massive traffic jams," says the hotelier. 
 
AAP's Kejriwal is holding a rally in the city on March 25 and that too will add to both business and chaos in the city, says locals. AAP's eastern UP secretary Anshul Srivastava, based out of Varanasi, says, "Our team members will start arriving from tomorrow (Wednesday). But obviously, the focus is on reaching out to people of Varanasi."
