India just got its first electric bus

<ul><li>The Indian government is bracing up for electric mobility by assigning a special workforce, which is expected to introduce 10 million jobs in the electric mobility industry. </li><li>The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship is formulating program focussed on design, battery, testing, manufacturing and management, and services and infrastructure skills. </li><li>The Automotive Mission Plan 2026 is expected to increase the workforce headcount in the auto sector to 65 million.</li></ul>With automotive industry as an integral part of the growing economy of India, the government is bracing up for electric mobility by assigning a special workforce, which is expected to introduce 10 million jobs in the electrifying transport sector. According to the ET report, Central Staff Training and Research Institute is working on the curriculum for technicians in the <keyword id="381751" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Electric-vehicle">electric vehicle</keyword> industry. “A specialised curriculum is being developed to cater to workforce demand from the electric mobility industry,” ET reported citing a senior official familiar with the program. While the Power Sector Skill Council is focussed on four skills — supervisors, technicians and helpers for the e-vehicles segment. The government has included the administrative bodies relevant to the automotive sector. “The plan is to bring all initiatives on one platform to achieve the desired results,” the ministry reportedly said. India’s electric mobility mission expected to originate 10 million jobs: Report

Mumbai, Dec 30 () State-owned Energy Efficiency Services on Monday said it has signed memorandum of understanding with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation for setting up charging infrastructure to boost electric mobility.
As a part of the national electric mobility programme, Energy Efficiency Services (EESL), a joint venture of four national public sector enterprises under the Ministry of Power, and HPCL have entered into a two-year MoU to set up public charging infrastructure across the country, the company said in a statement.
The MoU covers collaboration for planning, development and installation of charging facilities at suitable locations for two, three, and four-wheeler vehicles.
"With the installation of public charging stations, the range anxiety of EV owners is expected to reduce, which will increase the adoption of electric mobility. This will also bring down automobiles emissions, enabling cleaner and greener environment, in turn, safeguarding public from health risks," the company said.
Commenting on the partnership, EESL Managing Director Saurabh Kumar said that this tie-up will address the range anxiety concerns that EV-adopters may have.
"Increased access to charging infrastructure is vital for the uptake of electric mobility across the entire EV ecosystem of two, three, and four-wheelers. Our partnership with HPCL will also establish more visibility of charging infrastructure, sending a signal to the general public that India's electric mobility vision is being realised in full potential," he added. EESL inks pact with HPCL to set up charging infra

Mumbai, Jan 30 () State-owned Energy Efficiency Services Ltd on Thursday said it has signed a pact with Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd to set up a network of public charging infrastructure for electric vehicles at various highways across the country.
 Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL) and Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) will jointly explore opportunities in the field of e-mobility and fast-track the adoption of EVs in the country under the National E-Mobility Programme, the company said in a statement.
 As part of the agreement, BHEL will offer complete engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) solutions from concept to commissioning while EESL will make the entire upfront investment on services, along with the operation and maintenance of the public charging infrastructure.
 The pact covers collaboration for identifying, planning, development and installation of charging stations at suitable locations, it said.
 "Mobility is changing rapidly, and India is powering ahead to a sustainability-driven future by adopting electric vehicles. Availability of adequate charging infrastructure is one of the key requirements for further accelerating EV adoption in India," EESL Managing Director Saurabh Kumar said.
 He further said setting up charging stations at highways will boost the interest of public commuting from one city to another enabling a smooth and sustainable transition to a future-oriented mobility solution. PSK RUJ

EESL partners BHEL to set up EV charging infrastructure

The electric mobility startup, which plans to hire 200 more people, has built a dedicated plant spread over three acres at Palwal in the national capital region. The company said that it aims to become a complete electric mobility solutions provider. "We have planned an initial investment of Rs 100 crore which will be funded by MT Autocraft, the <keyword id="4855" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="sehgal" source="Orion">Sehgal</keyword> family and a few high-net-worth individuals (HNIs)," said Karan Sehgal, Co-founder of MTA EV. Vivek <keyword id="15474803" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="jakhmola" source="Orion">Jakhmola</keyword>, an industry veteran and former president at JBM Group has joined as co-founder of the newly-formed MTA EV. Jakhmola was also a director at multiple companies in the Lumax Group and brings along over 25 years of experience. The company plans to hire another 200 people in the next 12 months. "We aim to create a sustainable organisation with a sharp focus on technology through self-reliance and intra-dependence on our foreign collaboration partners. We are already a 50-plus strong team in R&amp;D and market research. The team size will increase to 200 plus in the next 12 months," said Jakhmola. The company is set to showcase its products and technology at the upcoming 'Auto Expo 2023'. MT Autocraft forays into EVs with Rs 100 cr funding, to hire 200 people

New Delhi, Jan 30 () State-owned firms Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL) and BHEL have signed a pact to set up a network of public charging infrastructure for electric mobility along various highways across the country.
 The two entities will jointly explore opportunities in e-mobility, and fast-track the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) in the country under the Government of India's National E-Mobility Programme, according to a statement by EESL.
 As part of the pact, BHEL will offer complete EPC (engineering-procurement-construction) solutions from concept to commissioning, while EESL will make the entire upfront investment on services, along with the operation and maintenance of the public charging infrastructure.

EESL, BHEL sign pact to set up public charging stations

New Delhi, Dec 9 () A city-based start-up plans to come up with a fleet of electric vehicle cabs across Delhi-National Capital Region this month to combat air pollution.
'Prakriti E-Mobility Private Limited' will introduce 500 electric vehicles in the first phase and hopes to touch the 5,000-mark within the next two years, according to a statement issued by the company.
The app-based electric vehicle cab services will be known as "EVERA".
"We wanted to provide customers with a delightful service and give them an opportunity to contribute to the cause of cleaner air as well. 'EVERA' as a service is not only focussed on getting customers from point A to point B but will also contribute towards the greater good of the planet," Nimish Trivedi, the co-founder and CEO of Prakriti E-Mobility Private Limited, said.
Going big on zero emissions, the start-up for the benefit of its prospective customers also claims to follow a strict policy of zero surge pricing and zero cancellations.
"The customers can book cabs without worrying about the hike in the price and they will have the ability to cancel the ride without paying for it," it added.
Also, realising that lack of a sound charging infrastructure in the country could be one of the roadblocks for the electric vehicles, the company said it is already in talks for setting their own charging infrastructure to reduce their dependency on the existing ones. MG

500 electric cabs to hit Delhi roads this month to combat air pollution

 India’s Road and Transport Minister <keyword id="26680" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Nitin-gadkari">Nitin Gadkari</keyword>, who visited Tesla's factory near San Francisco during his US visit, said Tesla wants to see the response in India. 
 
"They are positive on setting up a base in India but will only decide on it after their Model 3 car is launched. We have offered them (support) to make India their Asia manufacturing hub," Gadkari told ET. 
 
<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=model+3&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Tesla's Model 3</a> is the cheapest offering at $35,000 (about Rs 23 lakh) and nearly 400,000 bookings were received since its March launch. 
"We will provide them land near the port of their preference along with all necessary support. Rules on alternate fuel cars have already been clarified by us,” said Gadkari. 
 
Tesla’s electric cars can run over 300 kilometres on a single charge. 
 
India has already made plans to establish the necessary charging network for electric cars, which will first be established in the country's big cities. 
 
Meanwhile, talking about India’s initiatives, Gadkari's ministry has approved the conversion of vehicles into hybrids through retrofitting to check high pollution levels. 
 
His ministry will start certifying manufacturers of such kits and a list of authorised installers will be drawn up. 
 
The government is already in the process of rolling out the National Electric Mobility Mission Plan (NEMMP), which aims to get 6 million electric vehicles, including two-wheelers, on the road by 2020.

Tesla to test waters in India with Model 3 launch before adding other electric cars

Mumbai, Feb 4 () Tata Power has joined hands with EV cab operator Prakriti E-Mobility to set up 50 art charging stations for electric vehicles in a phased manner.Last month, three Tata Group companies had unveiled a mega plan for the electric mobility space along with group company Tata Motors.The two companies will jointly set up 30 slow chargers and five fast chargers over a period across the Delhi-NCR, said Prakriti, an app-based EV taxi service provider in the national Capital.As part of the tie-up, Tata Power will be responsible for designing, procuring, installing and managing the charging stations near the Delhi airport, Gurgaon and north Delhi.The companies have opened the first fast charger at Jasola area of southeast Delhi on Monday.The chargers to be installed by Tata Power will primarily be used by Prakriti's EV car fleet, the statement added.Nimish Trivedi of Prakriti said this partnership will help strengthen his company's plan to rolling out 5,000 EV cabs over the next two years and also boost the overall EV ecosystem.Ramesh Subramanyam of Tata Power said partnerships like this are key to the journey to be a one-stop integrated charging service provider to all forms of transport and all categories of user.Tata Power already has a network of over 100 charging points across public, captive, residential and corporate segments addressing different charging standards. Tata Power to set up 50 charging stations for EVs in NCR

Greater Noida, Feb 6 () Italian two-wheeler maker Piaggio on Thursday unveiled its premium scooter Aprilia SXR 160, which has been designed specifically for Indian conditions. Aprilia SXR 160 would be launched in the third quarter of 2020 and booking would commence in August. Piaggio, which is also working on India-specific futuristic electric mobility solutions, has also showcased the European version of Vespa Elettrica at the Auto Expo here. Stating that electric mobility will grow at a fast pace in the country, Piaggio Vehicles India Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Diego Graffi said, "India continues to remain a strategic market for us". "In the past few years, we have seen the changing preferences in Indian consumers. Aligned to these changes, we are proud to introduce new products, which cut across categories and fulfil the needs of the customer," he added. On being asked about electric mobility in India, he said the company has started with the commercials vehicles few month ago and plans to enter the market with customised products which are made in India. He further added: "It would be fully designed in-house by Piaggio, including powertrain." Piaggio said it would manufacture Aprilia SXR 160 at its Baramati facility in Maharashtra. The subsidiary company had come into being when Ola tried to push its electric mobility program in Nagpur in partnership with Mahindra. While the plan didn’t take off in Nagpur roads with drivers even reportedly returning the vehicles, Ola has stuck to its plan to bring 1 million Electric Vehicles on Indian roads by 2022. This venture seems to be a part of Ola’s bigger plans of doing more than just putting cabs on the roads. Through Ola Electric, the company has already partnered with several OEMs and battery manufacturers, while looking at working with the automotive industry for solutions for electric vehicles. According to the company’s official statement, they are currently running several pilots to deploy electric vehicles and charging solutions, including battery swapping stations, electric 2-wheeler and 3-wheeler services amongst others. “At Ola Electric, our mission is to enable sustainable mobility for everyone. Ola gets fresh funds to take on Mahindra’s Glyd – where’s Uber?

The auto industry witnessed biggest drop in 16 years in December as the sales fell by 18.66% in the month to 1.2 million units. 
 
This major fall is attributed to <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=demonetisation&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">demonetisation</a>, which shook the industry. Now, the auto industry has high hopes from <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=budget+2017&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Budget 2017</a> that it will bring some reprieve for the automakers. 
 
"Budget is something which we all are hoping that the government will bring measures to boost consumer sentiment," <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=SIAM&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers</a> (SIAM) Director General Vishnu Mathur said.

The auto industry hopes <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=arun+jaitley&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Finance Minister Arun Jaitley</a> to announce a slew of initiatives such as concrete policy on fleet modernisation, specially of commercial vehicles and passenger vehicles. 
 
"We have also pointed out that the incentive scheme for electric mobility under the FAME scheme must be extended as most of the automobile companies have been working towards this direction," Mathur said. 
 
In order to promote eco-friendly vehicles, the government had formally launched the FAME India scheme in 2015 offering incentives on electric and hybrid vehicles of up to Rs 29,000 for bikes and Rs 1.38 lakh for cars. It envisaged Rs 795 crore support for the first two fiscals. Faster Adoption and <keyword id="3496050" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="manufacturing-of-hybrid-and-electric">Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric</keyword> vehicles in India (FAME India) is part of the National Electric Mobility Mission Plan. 
 
On the taxation side, Mathur said it is unlikely that the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=GST&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">GST </a>will be implemented from April 1. 
 
"However, we have been seeking moderation of taxation for the automobile industry and reduction of slabs from the current four, ranging from 12-30 per cent, to two slabs," he said. 
 
SIAM had proposed a base rate for small cars and two- wheelers and another 8 per cent addition to that for larger cars, he added.

Ola heads to Uber’s homeground to set up an advanced tech centre, will hire 150 engineers

New Delhi, Feb 7 () Hero Electric on Friday announced partnership with State Bank of India to provide dealer network inventory financing solutions. This partnership will allow Hero Electric to widen its reach in the country, thereby extending its pan India customer base, the company said in a statement. Hero Electric aims to have 1,000 dealerships across the country this year and the partnership will allow existing dealers to invest more and encourage new dealers to sprout across the country, it added. Commenting on the tie-up, Hero Electric CEO Sohinder Gill said, "We are pleased to have SBI as our partner and we are confident that their expertise and nationwide presence will allow our dealer network to seamlessly expand their business and manage cash flows through attractive rates on inventory financing." Hero Electric said the partnership with SBI will help the brand's products make inroads in Tier 3 and Tier 4 markets and raise awareness around electric mobility. The company said it plans to take its current 620 touch-points to 1,000 by end of 2020.
