Democrats are hoping Josh Riley, a lawyer and policy analyst, can win in a rematch two years later with the help of Harris at the top of the ticket. More than $35 million has been spent on the race, making it the most expensive House contest in the nation.California 22nd: Rep. The ethnic group with the highest concentration of professional workers in the UK is Indian and considering <keyword id="21981222" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ethnic-minorities" source="keywords">ethnic minorities</keyword> as a monolithic group for public policy purposes is now increasingly meaningless in the country, a new think-tank analysis concludes on Monday. 'A Portrait of Modern Britain: Ethnicity and Religion' published by the <keyword id="23544970" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Policy-Exchange" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Policy Exchange" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Policy Exchange">Policy Exchange</keyword> reflects an in-depth examination of the demographic, educational, health and economic situation of different ethnic groups in the country. The report calls for a new government-led <keyword id="23544966" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="national-integration-strategy" source="keywords">national integration strategy</keyword>, with children in Britain taught to be proud of their national heritage in an inclusive manner that reflects the country's history and traditions. "The ethnic group with the highest concentration of professional workers was Indian - with British Indians also having the highest rate of home ownership - with 71 per cent living in a property which is either owned outright or owned with a mortgage/loan or shared ownership," the report notes. "The diversity contained with the term 'ethnic minority' is now so broad - both within each minority and between minorities - that considering ethnic minorities as a monolithic group for public policy purposes is now increasingly meaningless," it states. "Categories such as 'South Asian' do not only serve to mask over noteworthy economic and social disparities between Britain's Indians, Pakistanis, and Bangladeshis - but also mean that very real forms of diversity within these sizeable groupings at times go unrecognised," it cautions. The report analyses the <keyword id="23544967" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="2021-UK-Census" source="keywords">2021 UK Census</keyword> data and other statistical resources, combining this with polling conducted by Redfield and Wilton. Besides a nationally representative sample of 2,000 people of all ethnicities, "booster" samples were used of 1,400 ethnic minority respondents - 200 each from the Black African, Black Caribbean, Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Chinese and Mixed-Race ethnic groups. "These days, integration won't happen naturally... Recent years have seen conflicts generated far away from our shores break out on our streets. The politics of the Indian sub-continent and the Middle East for example are no longer 'quarrels in a faraway country between people of whom we know nothing'," Sir Trevor Phillips, senior fellow at Policy Exchange, says in his foreword. "Policy Exchange's portrait of our nation teaches us one thing above all: our future rests on managing our diversity, and complacency is the surest pathway to the growth of extremism and conflict," he concludes. Among the key findings of the analysis was that almost three in four people - 72 per cent of those polled - believe that children should be taught to be proud of <keyword id="23544969" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="British-history" source="keywords">British history</keyword>, with a majority also believing that Britain has historically been a force for good in the world. After employees reach home they should spend good time with their family and stay away from mobile phones. I appeal to the government to come up with a specific policy so that these kind of situations can be tackled,” Pendse said. Stress is relative, as the stress I am feeling is not the same for the other person. People (need) to understand how to react. I can easily understand this as these things are very common nowadays. We need to think about how we can reduce the impact. This is the only thing we can manage. Stress cannot be avoided but it can be managed. In the corporate world stress is a part of our life. We need to understand how to react to that. We are the solution makers itself." Badgujar said. Anand Kulkarni, a Process Specialist at Infosys, agreed that while stress is prevalent in many workplaces, it can be handled with the right mindset. "Being in the corporate for more than ten years, I have been experiencing and observing a lot of work stress. I handle stress by enjoying the work. Stress does exist in the corporate world but it is all about how you handle it.” Pushkar Aurangabadkar, an educator and author, took a more philosophical approach to the issue, noting that societal pressures often drive people into high-stress environments. "The incident is very painful and it has a lot to do with the kind of aspirations that we have these days. The majority of which comes from the compulsive obsession for owning a lot of things. It is not just the trap of corporate but we also need to consider what makes people get into these traps in the first place.” Aurangabadkar added that fostering compassion and promoting spiritual wisdom could help reduce feelings of isolation and pressure in the corporate world. "But there are means and ways in which this can be handled in a better way and as a society, we should be taking care of it. It depends on corporate culture and as everyone might be aware every company has a different culture. It depends from company to company what kind of culture they have that defines how much pressure is getting instituted in that organisation. But beyond that what I believe is compassion and the longing for spiritual wisdom need to be promoted in society because it can reduce the possibility of such incident. The reason is that beyond the pressure people are facing in corporate, it drills down the compulsion and loneliness that we are facing and the answers to which may lie in the compassion." <h2>EY employee's death shocks nation</h2> Anna Sebastian Perayil, a 26-year-old Chartered Accountant, passed away in July 2024, just four months after joining EY in her first job. Her mother, in a heartfelt letter to the company, attributed Anna's death to extreme work pressure. The letter went viral on LinkedIn last week. Anna’s mother said in the letter that her daughter worked tirelessly, even on her convocation day despite experiencing chest pains. Though doctors found no immediate cause for concern, Anna continued to feel unwell. Her mother added how Anna’s manager would reschedule meetings during cricket matches and assign tasks at the end of the day, dismissing Anna’s concerns about the late-night workload. The letter added that despite her struggles, Anna chose to stay, eager to learn and gain experience, but the pressure proved too much. In her letter, Anna’s mother expressed her deep sorrow, not only at losing her daughter but also at EY's failure to provide support. Addressing a press conference, Kumar said, "Across the country, a major problem in state universities is vacancies in teaching positions. In some state universities, 50 to 80 per cent of teaching positions are vacant," urging universities to expedite the filling of these positions. He said implementation of NEP is a "journey", which cannot happen overnight, and state governments have been enthusiastically participating in implementing it. Kumar stressed that it is also essential for the universities to formulate an institutional development plan and their own roadmap for the future. With approximately 130 vice-chancellors and other academics participating, discussions at the conference focused on transforming <keyword id="19896809" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="higher-education" source="keywords">higher education</keyword> institutions to empower students in contributing to national development. Key topics include providing holistic education, integrating skill development with degree programs, and utilising digital technology to reach students from rural and economically weaker backgrounds. "We will be discussing how the NEP is being implemented and challenges colleges and universities are facing, so that we can collectively find solutions," he said. Kumar requested the universities to open more off-campus centres to make education accessible and equitable, while stating that UGC was also laying thrust on training teachers in the higher education sector. Highlighting the need to expose students to different parts of the country, he said the Northeastern region is home to many indigenous knowledge systems, whether it be a festival celebrated based on astronomical calculation, bamboo engineering or shifting cultivation. "These are parts of Indian knowledge system and there is a need to expose students to this from different parts of the country," he said. Kumar added that UGC is also working on promoting education in own language, especially with the country having numerous native languages. On implementation of NEP in this region, Kumar said the UGC is in regular touch with state higher education councils and VCs. "We are very happy to inform that state governments are very enthusiastically participating in implementing NEP. Implementation is a journey," he added. He reiterated that achieving the target of a Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) of 50 per cent by 2035 requires sustained effort and cannot be achieved overnight. Among initiatives under NEP is the provision of biannual admissions to help students who fail to enroll during July-August to take admission in January-February. Universities with required infrastructure have been requested to implement it to maximise resource utilisation, Kumar said, adding that 90 varsities have also started biannual admissions for online programmes. The UGC chairman also said stress is being laid on strengthening research ecosystem in the universities and bring more young people into it. Though directly UGC funded-research has stopped now, funds for research projects are available through other agencies, like National Research Foundation and other schemes, he added. With focus on online education, internet connectivity and electrification has also received a boost across the country, with common service centres also set up for students in remote areas to access Net, Kumar added.

Under the updated UPI transaction limit regulations, individuals can now conduct payments via UPI up to ₹5 lakh per day, previously capped at ₹1 lakh, specifically for payments to hospitals and educational institutions. “A key highlight is the adjustment in the UPI limit for transactions involving hospitals and educational institutions, raising it from ₹1 lakh to ₹5 lakh. This targeted policy measure acknowledges sector-specific financial needs, contributing to the macroeconomic resilience of critical segments. This could potentially result in increased financial transactions and ease,” says Sheersham Gupta, Director and Senior Technical Analyst at Rupeezy, a trading platform. “Education expenses usually tend to be high and very time-bound. Increasing the UPI limit for education up to ₹5L means students and parents will be able to make immediate hassle-free cash payments without needing to resort to instruments such as demand drafts,” says Adhil Shetty, CEO, BankBazaar, a financial marketplace. In the August policy update, Das has proposed introducing conversational payments on UPI, enabling users to interact with an AI-powered system for secure transaction initiation and completion. This feature will be accessible on both smartphone and feature phone-based UPI platforms, initially supporting Hindi and English, followed by additional Indian languages. The RBI had also raised the transaction limit of UPI Lite to ₹500 from ₹200. UPI Lite is accessible through various payment apps like Paytm, BHIM App, GooglePay, among others. Several banks, including Canara Bank, HDFC Bank, Indian Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Punjab National Bank, State Bank of India, Union Bank of India, and Utkarsh Small Finance Bank, are already active on the UPI Lite platform.
