Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has got the distinctive honour of being the only leader from a foreign country to get featured in a film on the US President Barack Obama's accomplishments. 
 
The short film, featuring a file photo of Obama meeting Modi, was screened at the Democratic Convention yesterday. 
 
The film was made to highlight Obama’s accomplishments as POTUS over the last eight years, and covered all aspects of his Presidency, be it his efforts to put the US economy back on track or personally supervising the killing of al-Qaeda terrorist Osama Bin Laden. 
 
The video also featured some shots from his personal life, showing him singing Christmas carols and playing with children.

He has completed one flourishing year at the Prime Minister’s Office today; his <keyword id="6374782" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="journey">journey</keyword> began after the historic win that BJP registered in the General Elections under his leadership. And ever since then, the man has been garnering a lot of praises (along with criticism) from all corners of the world. While some are in awe of his powerful oratory skills, many are amazed by the business acumen of this man…the list goes on! For someone who lacked political acumen, both when he became the <keyword id="5269" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Chief-Minister">Chief Minister</keyword> of Gujarat and <keyword id="71" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Prime-Minister">Prime Minister</keyword> of India, Narendra Damodardas Modi has never had it easy. But, he makes his entire <keyword id="6374782" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="journey">journey</keyword> sound like a film with predestined ring of ‘success’ to it. 
 
A humble chaiwallah to begin with, Modi looks like a village belle who strode into the fashion circuit simply out of the winning looks she had. Sure, he has the suaveness to charm the international leaders with his planning, talks, focused discussions and of course the ‘special connection’ he shares with their country. 
 
A year is fast over since his astounding victory where he and his party literally waltzed into the power corridors of New Delhi. Modi, a man with sharp eye, always knew India had a winning formula in its relations with its neighbours, and also the neighbours’ neighbours. Indeed! 
Whether it is his visits abroad, or him having to host his international guests on home turf, Modi has a way of forging some long-term relationships with countries and their premiers, Chancellors, Prime Ministers and Presidents. This is one huge step towards his dream of becoming the ‘statesman’ and forge a strong foothold for India to stride from a developing country to the one that can be called the ‘super power’. 
 His ‘<keyword id="343" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="20" keywordseo="Friends">friends</keyword>’ list is getting robust and all those who were already on the ‘friends’ list, have now moved on to become ‘best friends’ or BFFs (Best Friends Forever) in the common man’s lingo. 
 
Let’s take a look at the ‘assets’ Modi has made in the last one year, internationally. 
 
<keyword id="15962" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Barack-Obama">Barack Obama</keyword>: The match made in heaven 
 
 Obama called Modi India’s reformer. And the latter called the former ‘Barack, my best friend’. The bonhomie was for everyone to see with both visiting each other’s countries and providing ample fodder for the media in their respective countries. While Obama’s informal mannerisms warmed the cockles of the <keyword id="24479" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="heart">heart</keyword>, Modi’s monogrammed suit kind of gave western media enough to see through the gaps in Modi’s ambitions of claiming the skies as world statesman. 
 Though US has been a natural ally for India, it isn’t the only bilateral relation India has been banking on. <keyword id="51958" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="20" keywordseo="YES">Yes</keyword>, US is on the list but not the only one, forever. Smart move. 
 
Obama even wrote a profile of Modi in Time magazine. Quite a strong bond this! 
 
<keyword id="590894" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Shinzo-Abe">Shinzo Abe</keyword>: Men of the same feather 
 Modi and <keyword id="6355311" type="COUNTRY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Japan">Japan</keyword>’s <keyword id="4744" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="premier">premier</keyword> Abe have a lot in common that can give adequate insecurity to <keyword id="818790" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="the-rest">the rest</keyword> of the world. Both men are dreamers and hard workers. Both have started deregulation in their countries to kickstart their flagging economies. Modi has met Abe on two occasions: one when he was CM and now as a PM. Quite a long journey indeed. 
 
Xi Jinping: The ‘plus’ friendship 
 
 Modi described his friendship with Jinping as a ‘plus’ one. And this surely surpasses the normal ‘formal international bilateral’ relationship. So far, there has been only honey-dripping sweet stories we have been reading about both the leaders. Because it is neither the countries nor the problems that bring them together. It is history. Chinese visitor <keyword id="649970" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Huen-Tsang">Huen Tsang</keyword>, who later chronicled India the way no one else did, had visited Modi’s village before he returned and settled in Jinping’s village. Truly, this is one dil ka rishta! 
 
<keyword id="6430216" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="David-Cameron">David Cameron</keyword>: The vote diplomacy British Prime Minister David Cameron, who won second time over, is all praises for Modi even when the PM met him on earlier occasions. For Cameron, the number of votes Modi garnered looked like a mammoth task for any kind of <keyword id="19496" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="leader">leader</keyword> worldwide. Cameron even said it in as many words after India declared its results. “No leader in the world could garner as many votes,” said Cameron. Modi held out his helping hand when Cameron and his party fought elections to <keyword id="150210" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="British-parliament">British Parliament</keyword> second time over. A friend in need, is a friend indeed! 
 
<keyword id="201673" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tony-Abbott">Tony Abbott</keyword>: A pact for life 
 
 
 <keyword id="6355478" type="COUNTRY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Australia">Australia</keyword> and India have entered a pact that is bound to stay around for a longer period of time, than the bilateral cooperation agreement on various fronts with other countries. They have established a deeper framework for security cooperation to reflect the deepening and expanding security and defending engagement between India and Australia. The pact was signed rather quietly. With this, Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott has come albeit closer home, through Narendra Modi.

 Whether it is about drumming up enough support for Modi in elections, or managing elections in different states to make the base of <keyword id="2868030" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Lotus-party">Lotus party</keyword> strong enough to wipe out other parties in the meantime, Amit Shah has been Modi’s ‘go’ man. Their friendship has been strong, has lasted decades and there is no one else who knows the PM’s problems and comforts better than Shah.

BFFs are here to stay: Modi's medley with international, desi friends

Just when the wind of change was sweeping across India and Narendra Damodardas Modi-led <keyword id="14666" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="BJP">BJP</keyword> was getting elected to power, a part of India’s legacy folded up, probably never to return again. But the legacy had nothing to do with the monarchy of India or the country’s historical diamonds even though the latter had graced the overseas museums for long. No, the legacy was all about India’s very own love affair with automobiles. 
 It was a day that would go down in the history of modern India. The iconic <keyword id="2722" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="ambassador">Ambassador</keyword>, manufactured by <keyword id="132800" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Hindustan-Motors">Hindustan Motors</keyword>, ended its journey on May 24, at the factory that once rolled out the puffed-up version of Great Britain’s long-defunct <keyword id="309121" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Morris-Oxford">Morris Oxford</keyword>. India has been driving these cars manufactured at Uttarpara in West Bengal since 1957. 
 But the decision to stop production was taken after the abysmal drop in sales figures of <keyword id="1236214" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ambassador-cars">Ambassador cars</keyword>. Only 2,200 units were sold in the last fiscal even though <keyword id="25903" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="40" keywordseo="Indians">Indians</keyword> bought nearly 1.8 million four-wheelers during that period. With business hitting rock bottom, the writing was already on the wall and Ambassador had to wrap up its journey. 
 
The only breather is a statement from Hindustan Motors that says: Production closed until further notice. Does it signify chances of resurrection? That just might be the case – at least those who want to cling to some ray of hope believe so. Most of the fans believe that the beautiful, bountiful Ambassador will be back on the Indian roads again. 
 
As we all know, a car signifies mobility and class. But in the case of Ambassador, it was not a mere vehicle that carried people from point A to point B. In those early days, when India was just waking up to the fact that it was a free state and scales of hierarchy had to be created from the starting point onwards, the Ambassador played a very significant role in fixing that scale. 
 In fact, Ambassador spoke the language of metaphors. It signified ego, power, money, class, close-knit families and much more. It was the tugging string that still linked us to <keyword id="988054" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="British-India">British India</keyword>. It was also about the all-powerful babudom that had taken over (it was the ultimate status symbol for every government official and even the elected representatives of the country). 
 At a time when branding was never done by hired agencies, Ambassador stood for majesty and elegance. When on the move, it could easily attract a glance of appreciation from all and sundry and ruled the Indian roads for nearly three decades till it was done in by a low-cost hatchback. The Ambassador began to lose its sheen from the 1980s when <keyword id="44883" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Maruti-Suzuki">Maruti Suzuki</keyword> introduced its first <keyword id="43041" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Maruti-800">Maruti 800</keyword>, touted as the people’s car. 
 The Ambassador manufacturers had failed to see the fast-changing consumer map pervading the entire country. We no longer had cities with large joint families. <keyword id="400822" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Industrialisation">Industrialisation</keyword> had started to eat into the family space and migration in search of greener pastures had begun in villages and semi-urban areas. Joint families had begun to move out with their ‘share’ of property. The phrase ‘invasion of privacy’ had just entered lives, with the term privacy gaining its own definition.

RIP Ambassador: India Won’t Be The Same Without You

Amid the raging row over Prime Minister <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=narendra+modi&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Narendra </a><a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=narendra+modi&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Modi'</a>s educational qualification, the <keyword id="6355711" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Gujarat-University">Gujarat University</keyword> today shared details of his MA degree saying he scored 62.3 per cent as an external student of the varsity. 
 
The details were shared by the Gujarat University after the Central Information Commission directed it to provide the same to Delhi Chief Minister <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=arvind+kejriwal&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Arvind Kejriwal</a>, who had recently criticised the functioning of the transparency panel. 
 
"Narendra Damodardas Modi passed his MA in Political Science in 1983 with first class, securing 499 out of 800 marks, which comes to 62.3 per cent as an external student," Gujarat University's Vice Chancellor M N Patel told PTI today. 
 Kejriwal, in a letter to CIC in response to an RTI application seeking details of his electoral photo identity card (EPIC), demanded that while he was ready to share information sought by RTI applicants, the CIC must also order disclosure of <keyword id="994722" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="educational-qualifications">educational qualifications</keyword> of the PM. 
 After Kejriwal's letter, the CIC had on Friday ordered <keyword id="6360099" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Delhi-University">Delhi University</keyword>, from where he pursued his Bachelor of Arts (BA) course, and Gujarat University, from where he completed his MA, to reveal details of his education qualifications. 
 
Vice Chancellor Patel said he has not received any order of CIC till now, but he came to know about it from media, and will give the details to concerned applicants if he receives the order.

"The details (of Modi's degree) were sought through several Right to Information (RTI) applications filed before the university, but we were not in a position to share the details under the RTI Act on technical grounds," Patel said. 
 
"The details of marks can only be provided to the candidate himself, and we do not provide details of university records beyond 20 years," he said. 
 
When asked about the details of Modi's BA degree, Patel said they do not have it. 
 
"Modi did his MA as an external candidate. He secured 237 out of 400 marks in MA first year, and 262 out of 400 marks in MA second year," Patel said giving the details. 
 
"The breakup of marks in second year MA shows that Modi 64 marks in political science, 62 marks in European and social political thoughts, 69 marks in modern India/political analysis, and 67 marks in political psychology," he said. 
 
The CIC, acting on the letter from Kejriwal, had asked the Delhi University and Gujarat University to "make best possible search for the information regarding degrees in the name of Mr Narendra Damodardas Modi in the year 1978 (Graduation in DU) and 1983 (Post Graduation in GU) and provide it to the appellant Mr Kejriwal as soon as possible"

PM Narendra Modi got a first-class in his M.A, reveals Gujarat University

Indian PM Narendra Modi will be meeting his good friend, the US President Barack Obama, for probably the last time in the latter’s regime as POTUS in Hangzhou, China next month. Both the leaders would be there to attend the G20 summit on September 4th and 5th. 
 
Before that, US Secretary of State John Kerry and Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker will be coming to India for the Indo-US strategic and commercial dialogue in Delhi on August 30th and 31st, where a key cyber relationship document, agreed upon during Modi's June trip to Washington, will be signed.

Even though Modi will not be travelling to NYC for United Nations general assembly meeting, he will be Laos for barely one day during the September 7-8 East Asia and India-Asean summits. It would be difficult for him to meet Obama during that time. This is the reason why the two sides are trying to organise a meeting in China so that Obama and Modi get a chance to review measures that they have initiated to strengthen the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/PM-Narendra-Modi-calls-for-stronger-US-India-security-relationship/articleshow/52662476.cms">bilateral ties </a>between India and US since mid-2014. 
 
Since becoming the PM of India, Modi has travelled to the US four times, and also welcomed Obama for India's Republic Day celebrations last year. Other than these meetings, both of them have met a number of times for various events.

Obama is used to being the biggest deal wherever he is, and leaders worldwide act like 12-year-old girls hanging out near the stage exit of a One Direction gig in their attempts to absorb some of his limelight.
But against all odds, Modi <a href="http://www.buzzfeed.com/regajha/pm-of-swag">managed to steal the show yesterday with a bizarre piece of clothing</a>, Buzzfeed points out.
